What a great review! I am actually buying a used xsr900 tomorrow! Took it for a test ride a few days ago and WOW! Incredible engine, huge grin factor with this bike, the aftermarket exhaust sounds amazing.
You will love the MT10. If you think the XSR is fast OMG!!! I have had mine about 2 months now and love it. Keep up the great work, love what you do and how you're doing it.
Great review, nice touch with the spitfire too.. this has helped me to chose the xsr900, which I'm waiting on delivery for. Can't wait to get it and do lots of summer riding..
5:17 You claim it needs another gear? Feels a bit busy? That shows 60mph in 6th gear at 4,000rpm. That is absolutely par for the course and the 2020 versions at least will hit 150mph at redline in 6th gear. Your review didn't even mention the clock is a hybrid TFT/LCD? Even in direct sunlight in Australia my clock is clear as a TFT. You miss everything. The mirrors are alloy rotating on stainless gimbals. A mode is the only mode, traction must always be disabled, ABS must always be disabled, the suspension is utterly perfect for the road. It IS the ultimate UJM replicated with today's technology in every way. Even the MT-09 isn't even close to one of these. @@TheMissendenFlyer
I always follow your videos and have been waiting for an mt10 review. After this I don't think it will be long. Thanks for all your time and input it takes to make these excellent reviews.
Great review, partly on your advice I bought a second hand one in the same colour as you tested. My main gripe is no LED headlight but Hoglights in my hometown Brisbane have a great drop in plug and ride light. There is a lot of info available on the dash but unfortunately there is no handlebar mounted control to access a lot of it. However, I love the tripmeter which automatically comes on when the fuel hits reserve, a very handy feature. I was initially concerned about the fuel range but I’ve managed 315 kms before filling up.
I like this thing. Its retro without being too pretentious, being new with everything great about new bikes while simply using nice styling cues that give it a look that wont tire after 5byears.
Great review. I've had one since August 2016 and have done 10000km on it. Did a 3500km 9 day tour on it. Was very good, seat is hard but 400km days were a dream on the seat. I've also started commuting on it (due to having to sell my commuter bike) and found the bike is nice and nimble in traffic and B mode is perfect for that situation. STD and A modes are for weekend blats :)
Great review and seems like a fun bike. I'm a huge WWII airplane buff and loved the picture of the XSR and Spitfire together! Those two planes, Spitfire and Hurricane, were instrumental in the defense of England during the Battle of Britain! I would love a ride in one of those!
+PistolPete63 Trust me PistolPete63 there's not a lot you can teach me about the Spitfire and Hurricane! Aeroplanes, especially ww2 warbirds are my first love, so any excuse to mix bikes and planes works for me! All the best as ever - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer then we have a lot in common. I have a model of a P51 Mustang on my desk at work, a plane that you might say was the Tuono of its day! Hmmm, maybe that's why I love the Tuono so much! All the best TMF!
The Mustang is my favourite of all aircraft and I'm sitting in front of a 1:32nd scale model of a "D" that flew from Hunsdon in the UK during the second world war as I type! Love the sound of a Merlin in a 'Stang!
Your videos are top notch, love the pics with the Spitfire and Hurricane, too. Sounds like the old Street Triple has serious competition. Looking forward to your review on the new one when able!
Thank you for this great review. You mentioned the Ducati Scrambler in comparision and I think due to the date of the review you meant the 800. I own the 1100 Scrambler which I love and I think the XSR could be a precious second bike in my garage because of its japanese quality and its three cylinder motor.
I’ve watched, and enjoyed, many of your videos but only just figured out where you’re located. I was in the US Navy and stationed in West Ruislip from 2000-2003. We lived on RAF Daws Hill! I loved High Wycombe, especially the Saturday market. Thanks for making such high quality videos. I’m a new rider and have found your information to be very helpful.
I upgraded to an MT10 from a XSR900, i love both bikes but you can’t underestimate how good that triple motor is, like the dealer said with MT10 over the XSR ‘you 10% speed for 30% more cost’.
Yamaha knows how to make triples! I bought an XS850 special new in 1980.. absolutely a fabulous bike..smooth as glass and tons of Go! I can only assume that 40 years on they have only gotten better!
Thanks for another great video! Thanks also, for showing us the village of Bradenham too. I used to work in the manor house there. Did you know, it was the famous writer Isaac D'Israeli's house years ago? His son, Benjamin Disraeli, was brought up there and went on to be Queen Victoria's favourite Prime Minister! 😊
Hi TMF took my Explorer for its first proper ride out today and got a pic with a Spitfire as well !! Great riding around your area and thank you for sharing this video, any other suggestions are welcome. I think a trip to Duxford is on the cards soon. Many thanks and keep up the good work. JJ

Glad you finally got to take one out it's an awesome machine had mine nearly a year now and still enjoying it, I was back and forth with the Street Triple another great bike but the Yam styling got me. Great review and don't forget to take it out on a summer evening. Regards
I own this bike and I have to say that... it is incredible! Looks great, sounds amazing, it is nimble, breaks fantastically, great stability, awesome fuel consumption (60 mpg) and the best engine you can imagine. The bike is easy to drive because shifting gears is a pleasure, driving position allows you to see the traffic (seat it is a little high), and the engine is beefy at low, middle and high revs. You have to consider that suspension is very stiff and you need to have self control driving this beast.
Great review as always buddy! My Bro has an XSR900 and he loves it, we changed the pipe to a full titanium Akrapovic and it sounds amazing, cheers, GMAN
Wow, would like to hear that - the standard can this one had sounded pretty good to me, the engine had almost a turbo whine about it when you opened it up, quite different to the Triumph Triple but still a lovely sound....
Yeah it's a 2016 model with 1000miles on clock ( not a demo) £6799 That's a great saving on new. Pick it up Saturday. I'm like a kid night before Xmas haha
That engine is a belter, test rode xsr700 and mt09 late last summer and felt the Xsr900 would be perfect but dealer didn't have one. Like you say, almost too much choice in bike market these days, struggle to choose.
Really enjoyed the video which gave an excellent feel for riding the bike. I like the sound of it too, and of course the Oxford area is beautiful. thanks! although it was dull and looked cold, the soft light is conducive to nice video without strong sunlight in the camera lens.
TheMissendenFlyer Sounds like a contender. There's so much choice in that sector it would be a shame if it was overlooked. Style wise it's on point. With a few well placed mods you've got a good bike.
Nice review - opened my eyes to this bike. Love the 'dash', and the paint job - reminiscent of the RD250LC / RD350LC, which I'm sure is deliberate, but nicely done as it's not copying it exactly. They also do an Abarth grey / red combo paint job, which just happens to exactly match my car (an Abarth 595 in grey / red). Don't think I'll be tempted over a new Street Triple when it's time to change, but I'll pay more attention at the MCN show. btw, you were braver on those roads than I would have been, perhaps they looked worse on camera than they were. Cheers.
+Nigel Street This really was good Nigel, I've got high hope for the new Street Triple but it's got some serious competition with these new(ish) Yamahas.....
Blimey 123,000 views! Would have this bike over the MT09, looks great and reminds me of my RD250LC I bought in 1981. Test rode one a few weeks ago and loved it.....perhaps a stablemate for the MT10 in a couple of years.
I think Yamaha were very brave to clear the decks of the old naked mid range bikes (they were pretty boring) and bring out the new range, the new triples are very good. Now they must be selling truck loads great forward thinking by the Yamaha boffins!!! great review must try one of these.................so many great bikes we are so lucky indeed!
A competitor would also be the Tiger Sport, at least for my money. Two great all rounders, but one more sports tourer and one more Sunday dash to the Super Sausage! Great video, as ever...
Enjoyed the review and have to say, I like the looks of that. Wonderful to see a Spitfire and (a little bit) of a Hurricane... LOVE WWII planes, those are two exceptional machines indeed!
Yes I stumbled across these (alas replicas) a few years back - would you believe that's actually the headquarters of RAF Strategic Command in the UK nestled right here! If you love WWII planes checkout my brief phone vid from Duxford form a couple of years back here >> ruclips.net/video/QreED6pX-lA/видео.html&index=4&list=PL_719tkJvufZfQOwwqet31jg1maisFm0a
Great review! Wife willing, this may be my next bike. I've been looking for a bike with the performance of a naked with styling of a more traditional standard. I've looked at Street Triples, T120, Monster, etc. I know I'm all over the place but there is a continuum of performance, style and value in my mind and this seems to check all the boxes.
Good on you for being honest and admitting it is better than your Triumph Street Triple and better value for money and more reliable. Some just like spending as much as they possibly can and get a bike like the Ducati Napolean or the Triumph Bonaparte
Great review - very informative as usual! Would be really good to see you review the lower powered XSR700 which is more likely to appeal to newer riders!
Styling is a funny old thing and keep coming back to the XSR900 as a potential next bike. Have turned away a few times as even though I love a Yam triple and this bike seems to do so much so well for little money I couldn’t get past that huge empty space between back wheel and seat unit but saw one the other day with soft luggage that filled the gap and bike was transformed in my eyes. Having said that couldn’t get past the styling of my current ride XJR1300 as disliked the raised tail piece but have grown to love it the more I bond and respect that too. Looks like the XRS could be back on the wish list. 😊👍
Looks pretty good, sounds lovely and really like that dash & pretty rear light. I must take my new Explorer to see the Spitfire, that looks great. Nice vid as always and hopefully I'll see you around now I'm back on the road after being robbed, my Explorer looks the nuts!! Cheers JJ
Great review. I've had 'umteen' different bikes over the last 40 years and my XSR900 tops the lot. You say 9.5 I say 9.9 out of ten for Yamaha. Looks a little like the XS650 of yester year....nothing like an LC!!! Cheers bud
Your getting closer TMF.Cracking review on a excellent bike. I had to smile to myself when you mentioned AT LAST doing a review on the MT10. You will love the MT10 and i am really interested in hearing your thoughts.Loving the vids, keep up the good work.
Great vid mate. I rode the 700 and 900 last year and am considering getting the MT 09 (2017) You should review that one. Same engine but just looks a bit sexier 😃 Still love my Spipple though. No bells or whistles just pure unadulterated pleasure............
You must be the 4th person to say that - I don't think it's a coincidence! There was a Yellow and Black anniversary run when the bikes where launched....long since sold out alas 'cos they looked mint!
John Richards I have the 60th aniversity edition in yellow and black,it reminds me of the Rd 350 Yamaha's from when I was a teen.that's why I had to have it.I have 5000 miles on it now I still love it so much it'd perfect for me. the only changes coming are bar end mirrors and small fairing,to change where the wind hits me just a little.
Great review mate, I'm planing on getting one, and being 6.3 I was worried the tank indents would be too small for my legs but after sitting on one seems ok. Thanks
Great review. Good job Yamaha ,As a few have already said looks so much like an RD LC . Brings back memories of the 80's , If I write to Suzuki do you think they will make a new X7
Looks like a modern twist on the old 1300xjr, it looks sweet in yellow if you've seen it? infact the first bike I ever went on the back of was my dad's 1978 rd250 in yellow..So I've got a little place in my heart for yamahas, which is why I own one I guess. mind you its nearly 20 years old but going strong. nice review👍
Yes, so many nice bikes out there to choose among. :-) More money and bigger garage would do the trick! Thank you for a well done film. Helps the spirit on a day with 3 degrees and rain...
TMF, thank you for another splendid review. Would love to see you review the XSR700 and compare versus the 900. I'm excited as Yamaha will finally be bringing the 700 model to the U.S in 2018. Starting to think about trading in my 14 Bonnie for something with semi retro style and safety goodies such as ABS, TC etc. plus some more power than my lovely but underpowered 14 Bonnie. Cheers
Loved the review. Have sub'd to your channel. You've got big nuts to ride that thing in "A" mode on the wet road...experience shows. Keep up the great work. Looking fwd to the next one.
My wife though I was having too much fun on bikes, she didn't like pillion. Surprised me when on her 40th she said she was doing her bike test, which she passed first time. She then bought a Street Triple. Now have bluetooth intercoms as well. We can ride and talk and go everywhere together now......... yey!!
I have the MT07 and I'm thinking of buying an XSR900 as my next bike for all the extra bells and whistles and obviously that glorious inline 3. The 07 is very light and nimble on it's feet and sounds absolutely amazing with an aftermarket exhaust!
Another great review. This bike reminds me of my 1981 Yam RD 250LC, its a lovely looking bike. I' m sure a quickshifter is an option you can fit to this machine, it was just a £200.00 extra on my MT10. I'm obviously a big Yamaha fan but I really do think Yamaha have built some great affordable bikes with their MT range. Just be careful if you do test the MT10, for some strange reason the modes are the other way around; just think B means BRUTAL! and hold on tight.
+Banditmanuk good to hear from you again Banditmanuk, and yes a quick shifter would be brill on the XSR. Having now ridden that can't wait to have a go on an MT09 and MT10....as you say these current Yamahas are spot on with regards to fun, build quality, style and best of all pricing...looking forward to riding more soon! All the best - TMF
Funnily enough TMF, i was out for a ride today & met a guy on the anniversary model, the akropovic sounded sweeet. He had a big beaming smile on his boat.. now i know why.
Yeah this really took me by surprise, I have a bit of an inbuilt bias towards European machines, so this was a real eye opener....and if you're going to have one then that block yellow anniversary one is the one to have I guess....thanks for watching - TMF
This is more like it Mr Flyer.I commented on the weight of the Triumph T range and i still think this Yamaha is too heavy but going in the right direction.
I've had mine from new done close on 4000 mile now. First thing I done was take the stupid mirrors off. Its a bike that needs customised, which when eventually finished they look better than most bikes on the road. Also that is not exhaust corrosion just muck. They are powder coated black, so just give it a wipe and your sorted.
Had a demo on the bike today and instantly loved it. Sounds great, loads of torque, decent brakes and the acceleration on the bike makes it go like stink.
I took one of these out from Brian Gray's too, Sam is a very helpful chap! I liked the bike overall, it felt a bit small when riding it, not cramped but I didn't feel like I was on a large bike if that makes sense..... Good bike to ride though, only thing I didn't like was that rear light, not sure it goes well on the bike.....
No I'm 5ft 8 too. I didn't feel cramped at all, hard to describe just felt a bit small, but that's not a negative. I thought it's a lovely bike. Probably felt small as I am used to my Tracer 900..... Love the engine in these bikes, Yamaha have done very well!
This video is one of the reasons why I now have an XSR900. What a wonderful, wonderful motorcycle!
Kilometer per liter?
@@billpojas7126 I got around 200-220 km per fill up, which is usually 10-11 litres, so around 4.5-5.2 litres per 100 km

Nice review! I found the ride portion of the video quite thrilling and informative.
Excellent! Thanks for watching and for stopping by....TMF
Blimey 123,000 views! Would have this bike over the MT09, looks great and reminds me of my RD250LC I bought in 1981. Test rode one a few weeks ago and loved it.....perhaps a stablemate for the MT10 in a couple of years.
Yeah this is a lovely machine - one of my favourite of the current Yamahas...this and the MT10 of course!
Love the LC paint job, engine to die for and low price tag.... hmmm must get the wife some flowers 😉 great review as always TMF ... thank you.
+Pineapple Soup I like your style Pineapple Soup!
Great review, well presented and no swearing, well beep almost.
+Rock Ardbiker Thank you Rock....and yes I let you down by letting one slip out...I do try hard not too on my vids. Thanks for watching - TMF
Great video! Saw this video a few times before purchasing my own xsr900, thanks for the upload 👍🏽
You happy with the bike?
TheMissendenFlyer I’ve had my xsr for about 3 months now. Love it so far. It’s a torque monster, in my opinion.
Best bike reviews on the net. Nuff said.
You are too kind sir!
Yes just when we all thought Yamaha had lost it a couple of years back they completely up their game, let's hope Suzuki can do the same! Cheers - TMF
Listening to you talk makes me want to go get a spot of Tay ( tea) You do great reviews
A competitor would also be the Tiger Sport, at least for my money. Two great all rounders, but one more sports tourer and one more Sunday dash to the Super Sausage! Great video, as ever...
Yes I shall be riding the Tiger Sport soon, looking forward to that as an ex-Tiger 1050 owner....
If you love WWII planes checkout my brief phone vid from Duxford form a couple of years back here >> ruclips.net/video/QreED6pX-lA/видео.html&index=4&list=PL_719tkJvufZfQOwwqet31jg1maisFm0a
Fast little motorcycle, I seen it in highways, and it looks cool, it is a street fighter, wonder if it would ever come in a 1200 engine.
+Matthew Held Yes, it's a lovely bike this one, really enjoyed riding it....TMF
Good on you for being honest and admitting it is better than your Triumph Street Triple and better value for money and more reliable. Some just like spending as much as they possibly can and get a bike like the Ducati Napolean or the Triumph Bonaparte
That is a nice looking bike & I loved the review. I could listen to that engine all day long.
Wouldn't mind seeing a vid on the MT-09 ;)
+Cosmic-Wizard Thanks Cosmic-Wizard - I'm working on that!
Great review - very informative as usual! Would be really good to see you review the lower powered XSR700 which is more likely to appeal to newer riders!
+Gareth Thomas Thanks Gareth - I'm hoping to get a ride on the 700 soon!
Why not!
I can understand you.
I drive a XJR 1200 good bike
Looks pretty good, sounds lovely and really like that dash & pretty rear light.
I must take my new Explorer to see the Spitfire, that looks great.
Nice vid as always and hopefully I'll see you around now I'm back on the road after being robbed, my Explorer looks the nuts!!
Cheers JJ
Hey welcome back JJ - I'll look out for you!
I must find that road with the Spitfire
Great review. I've had 'umteen' different bikes over the last 40 years and my XSR900 tops the lot. You say 9.5 I say 9.9 out of ten for Yamaha. Looks a little like the XS650 of yester year....nothing like an LC!!! Cheers bud
Cheers Dave, and yes, there's something about that XSR, great machine...
Your getting closer TMF.Cracking review on a excellent bike. I had to smile to myself when you mentioned AT LAST doing a review on the MT10. You will love the MT10 and i am really interested in hearing your thoughts.Loving the vids, keep up the good work.
Thank you for the kind words JayJay 1050 - I'm sure I'll love the MT-10....things are getting complicated!!!
Nice to hear an honest opinion on the ducati scrambler
+Cafe Racer Ldn Thank you :0)
Thanks for the review..im getting a silver one june 1st!!!cant wait!!!
Reminds me of the old RD but that was along time ago
Said to my wife ..... at a glance what does this remind you of ..... RD350LC was her reply ...... job done Mr Yamaha !!
Impressive! ...and well done on your selection of wife!
She cut her "biking teeth" perched on the back of a couple of Stan Stevens tuned RD's ...... the experience is imprinted in her memory lol ;-)
yes it does. Well done Mrs Fenner-G
Nice one....
yeah man thats what i thought
Great review, man! We're getting a nice red paint scheme in the U.S. for 2018 and I plan to get one next spring.
Yeah these are lovely bikes, you're going to love it!
Great vid mate. I rode the 700 and 900 last year and am considering getting the MT 09 (2017)
You should review that one. Same engine but just looks a bit sexier 😃
Still love my Spipple though. No bells or whistles just pure unadulterated pleasure............
Yes I'm working on that Nick - stay tuned! ...I have a feeling I may like it more than the MT10 (which I'm also working on!)....
TheMissendenFlyer
I look forward to it 😁
Kinder reminds me of the old RD350LC, would be nice in yellow and black.
2:30 Very nice of Yamaha to include the optional '7th and 8th Gear' package onto the test model ;-)
hehe, yes that's what I kept feeling for - angry bike, didn't have enough gears!!! Thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
Could always play around with swapping some cogs. But geared tall it may loose a bit of zip.
I've owned this bike for four years now. I love it as much as the day I bought it ($7,900). It will probably be the last bike I ever buy.
Great review mate, I'm planing on getting one, and being 6.3 I was worried the tank indents would be too small for my legs but after sitting on one seems ok. Thanks
Congrats Jonathan - you're gonna love it! Exciting times waiting for a new bike eh?
Great review and to the point.I think I might be looking at buying one soon!!
Great review. Your guys’ license plates are huge. They look like billboards
Tell me about it!
Great review. Good job Yamaha ,As a few have already said looks so much like an RD LC . Brings back memories of the 80's , If I write to Suzuki do you think they will make a new X7
Why not give it a try! ;0)
One can only try eh
the best camera angle so far!!!
Glad you approve :0)
Looks like a modern twist on the old 1300xjr, it looks sweet in yellow if you've seen it? infact the first bike I ever went on the back of was my dad's 1978 rd250 in yellow..So I've got a little place in my heart for yamahas, which is why I own one I guess. mind you its nearly 20 years old but going strong. nice review👍
Thanks Fursteve ferret - and yes the yamaha yellow block pattern is the one to have - sadly they're well and truly sold out now....
Nice looking bike and great review, as always!
+RandomlyTrees Thanks very much...
Great review.....ive seen loads of reviews of yours, but i think the icing would be a Busa. Gooooo on, id share the hell out of it.
I’d love a go on one Gary - it’s getting hold of one to ride that’s the issue!
Yes, so many nice bikes out there to choose among. :-) More money and bigger garage would do the trick! Thank you for a well done film. Helps the spirit on a day with 3 degrees and rain...
+John Mård Oh dear, 3 degrees and rain doesn't sound like fun - just remind me again where in the world you are??
A small fishermans village called Gilleleje 60 km north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Nasty weather indeed!
+John Mård ....and I thought we had it bad!
...could be worse.... ;-)
Cheers
+Andrew Kotys Funnily enough I rode the 700 last week....stay tuned for my review soon!
Loved the review. Have sub'd to your channel. You've got big nuts to ride that thing in "A" mode on the wet road...experience shows. Keep up the great work. Looking fwd to the next one.
Cheers eagle52 and welcome along!
All I need to do is sack the wife then I can buy whatever bike I want
...I'm sure we've all had that thought from time to time!
yeah, like every week:)
Dom Mar every hour!
But you don't because she has the money?
My wife though I was having too much fun on bikes, she didn't like pillion. Surprised me when on her 40th she said she was doing her bike test, which she passed first time. She then bought a Street Triple. Now have bluetooth intercoms as well. We can ride and talk and go everywhere together now......... yey!!
I can't decide between this and the XSR700. I ride in the city a lot but I like a good highway ride on the weekends.
I hope to own a nice used one of these soon.
NilSatis No9 with good reason. Akrapovic pipes work very well with this bike. A pity most manufacturers don't put similar sounding pipes as standard.
This is more like it Mr Flyer.I commented on the weight of the Triumph T range and i still think this Yamaha is too heavy but going in the right direction.
Yeah it certainly felt nice and light - lighter than it looks for sure.....looking forward to trying an MT09 at some point to see how it compares...
Ah good news on the down-pipes, that would certainly bug me! Thanks for watching - TMF
can't wait for MT-10 review!
Me neither!
Good video TMF, I agree on the retro themed bikes point. I would like to hear your thoughts on the Tracer 900.
Funny you should mention the Tracer...... ;0) ...stay tuned...
There’s a Spitfire and a Hurricane in Millennium point in Birmingham and I dun the lighting above it!
Oh, nice review btw.
Had a demo on the bike today and instantly loved it. Sounds great, loads of torque, decent brakes and the acceleration on the bike makes it go like stink.
+Neill Told you it was good!
Are you a big fella? ...I'm not particularly at 5'8 - felt great to me...
No I'm 5ft 8 too. I didn't feel cramped at all, hard to describe just felt a bit small, but that's not a negative. I thought it's a lovely bike. Probably felt small as I am used to my Tracer 900..... Love the engine in these bikes, Yamaha have done very well!
