Try playing a 4k demo video .mp4 file on a USB flash drive/stick directly connected to the TV using the included Sony media player app. The app tends to crash and won't see the video files after crashing until re-booting the TV. Workaround is to play the flash drive on a 4k BluRay player connected to the TV with an HDMI cable. Could be a Pentonic chipset bug or a Google TV software bug. Good job, Vincent! Very detailed review, as always!

THIS ability to play 2160p/1080p; DTS/or Atmos mp4/mkv files NEVER gets mentioned by reviewers! Sony & Panasonic TVs can't cope. Some files may play via Blu-Ray player>HDMI>TV. LG TVs don't like DTS audio, but usually plays without issue. I have found Samsung TVs are there most forgiving for video via USB hardrive/stick - though none are perfect.

*UPDATE* - I ended up with the 55" A95L. This isn't my main TV (we have a 120" screen with UST in the living room and bedroom.) It was for my office. I do a fair bit of work with it but also wanted a good gaming/movie screen. My wife pointed out that working on a 77" might be a bit problematic. She was probably correct. I got Sony on sale shortly after I made this post for $400 off. I couldn't resist and am very happy with it.
*Original Post* - I'm very torn on which oled to get at this point. I'm looking to stay under $3000 USD and am between the 77" S90C, 65"LG G3, or the 55" A95L. Primarly for physical 4k UDH movies and gaming. Obviously, the Sony is king, but an extra 22" from the Samsung is tempting. Lack of DV hurts though. Any insights?

While OLEDs lost no signicant brightness in the test, Quantumdot OLEDs Gen1 performed the worst; up to 50% loss of brightness after 9600 hours of operation. Devices with a QD OLED Gen2 panel had a much lower degradation than Gen1 QDs, but the degradtion trend down is recognizable, and after 9600 hours brightness loss came into the area where it becomes visible.

A95K owner here. I can confirm the issue applies even when outputting sound through a Denon A/V receiver. However, since the the sync mismatch only occurs with 24p output, having the Apple TV handle 3:2 pulldown and output at 60p resolves the issue, and FWIW, on the A95K, 24p content in a 60p container looks almost as smooth as a true 24p output. For UHDs, the Panasonic UB820 player has a programmable delay to allow for true 24p output with no mismatch.@@shagrathborgir2003

I own an s95b, just wanted to add this: if you own any of these qd oled tvs, they are a NIGHTMARE TO CLEAN!!!!. if you dare to even spray 1 drop of liquid on these tvs, the drop will stain on the display permanently, leaving a turquoise looking smudge behind. worst of all, you can never clean that smudge or else it will spread to other parts of the screen. when it does, it TRMENDOUSLY increases the amount of reflections while having an uneven looking screen. during the evening, when light hits the wall and reflects it back to the screen, when it's off or playing dark content, some parts of the screen are grayish purple, and some parts are just turquoise. IT's very annoying and I don't see this being called out by reviewers a lot. just saying. everything else about the tv is spectacular.

Sony is too expensive for the slightly better picture quality while Samsung with its quality issues is too much of a gamble despite the rich colors offered by QD-OLED. • @shmookins
      @shmookins Год назад

@@DookuGabrielLike with other TV makers, Sony used to launch new TVs in the first three months of the year. Some models in the first 6 months. But this year, they didn't launch till the later half of the year, way after the competition. Some of their models are just releasing now- three months before the year's end.
Maybe the delay is due to the global shortages during Covid as other TV makers did launch some models late as well, but not as late as Sony.
As for new TVs, CES is the show where you can see all the new TVs for the year. Although, again, for the first time ever Sony did not show any TVs during this year's CES. They did announce their TVs three months after. This is also a first and an odd move by Sony.
CES is on Jan. 15 every year.
Maybe Sony doesn't want to be lost between all the other TV announcements during CES, or maybe they had a delay getting parts. I guess we'll know next year if they repeat the new announcement and release schedule or if they revert back to the traditional one.
As for upgrading, I would wait for CES on Jan. 15 to see what they do- unless of course Sony delays the announcements for three months like they did this year.
I have a suspicion that Sony will change the CPU from the RX to something new next year since it is about time for a change if you look at their history. Also, I think they will finally release TVs with four HDMI 2.1 ports. And they should have better and more miniLED models entering new sizes for them (smaller screens).
If you wait till CES and there isn't a big upgrade, you can buy one of the current models. CES is just two and a half months away, anyway. And the current models will get a discount by then anyway. Win/win, I say.

Waiting for your review of the Panasonic MZ2000 (yeah, I saw the video of the prototype a few months ago), that will be my new TV in a few weeks (if it ever ships). Although this Sony is a beast, I'm still passing on QD-OLED and sticking to WOLED because of reliability concerns: too young of a technology and the claim Sony (or Samsung, can't remember) did that this year's panels are 50% more durable than the 1st gen, speaks long of how much room for improvement this very promising technology has in that aspect.
Btw, I'm a loyal Panasonic customer, basically have only had TVs of this brand (32" CRT, 42" Plasma (loved), 55" 2015 LCD (a mistake), EZ2000 and HZ2000) and I hope that, in a few years, when I'll replace the MZ2000, Panasonic will have joined the QD-OLED bandwagon.

But its not perfect. some minor issues with white uniformity that can be seen in black and white movies and winter sports. All oleds has worse motion handling for 24fps than plasma(crt is still king for motion). This juddery motion is the worst issue with oled, even worse than lcd. The hz2000 has 120hz black frame insertion that helps a litle, lg has excluded this on the newer panels.

From what I can make out, Samsung looks better with HDR games and has a wider Rec 2020 colour but considering that's for 4k and even now you still have to pay for 1080p I can't see 4k being the norm for absolute years.
