    It used to be there was differences in TV, but now if you purchase any one of these three TVs you got the best TV on the planet. Everything else is so minor that if they covered the frames and logos, you would have no idea that your TV was swapped. I think that's a good thing that they're all pressing the edge at the same level so that there should not be buyers remorse that so many people seem to have on these comments.😊

      I still think the QD models are superior. However there is one big issue with the S95C: If your content is DV profile 5 only you can't even see anything (well with completely wrong colors you can...). That's why we need DV.

      You're going to tell me Sony doesn't have the best upscaling and processing? Their details shine. If you can't see that, don't bother watching reviews. Just walk in and tell the sales guy what size you need and to surprise you with what he picks out.

    It would have been better to have uncalibrated TVs to compare. A95L was the only one not calibrated, so we can’t evaluate them fairly.

    • @andyjefferson1308

      Sony ALWAYS pre-calibrated their MASTER series TV's. That's why they always look good out of the box.

    • @stopthefomo
      @stopthefomo  10 месяцев назад +10

      This is very fair because in the end, MOST people (99.9%) will not calibrate their A95L and thus this is very relevant to their decision making whether they should or would want to calibrate to make those corrections, right? I still personally preferred the Sony. You'll be shocked that most people do not like accuracy - as long as the colors are not cray neon, you can't tell the difference. The video's purpose is to demonstrate what happens if you DON'T calibrate - is it still acceptable? If not, then you can get it calibrated and it will look nearly the same as the S95C.

    I have worked as a graphics professional in the print industry and know the importance of avoiding crushed black levels. I also had access to a C2 for 6 months and it was a great image, but it crushed the blacks and had weak reds. I thought the top model would have cured this, especially this years model, but no. The G3 is falling way behind the other two brands with inky crushed blacks that kill shadow detail. Makers intent would not include shadow detail if you could not see it. If the maker did want ultra high contrast with severe crushed blacks, I'm not sure that would be pleasing to view with the eyes in the long term. There is very little pure black in real life due to bounce light, so LG have no excuse here. The A95L wins hands down for respecting shadow detail.

      So how come I've heard this shadow detail is better in the G3 over S95C?

    • @floz9718
      @floz9718 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@SagaciousFrank Probably because they were talking about a calibrated set. After calibration, the LG has better shadow detail than the Qd-Oleds, which - at least according to Vincent Theo from HDTVtest - are either too bright (Sony) or too dark (Samsung). Most Oled- panels need calibration to get the shadow detail right and the LG G3 (and Panasonic MZ2000) give you great calibration tools to do so. Neither the Sony nor the Sasmung have that.
      That being said, I just got a Samsung S95C last Saturday and comparing it to my Panasonic HZ 1000 (which was the king of the hill in terms of shadow detail), I like the Samsung's presentation better. I hate crushed blacks and yes, the Panasonic has better shadow detail but the noise- free, chrominance overshoot- free near blacks of the OQ-Oled panel is simply better.
      It's too early to tell and my panel is still running in but I can already say, QD-Oled is the real deal in terms of near black presentation! As far as I'm concerned, the WOleds can show me more shadow detail all they want, the noisy (due to heavy dithering near black) presentation, macro blcoking and especially the chrominance overshoot! makes dark scenes look so much worse, I take a little bit of black crushing or slightly raised shadows over that any day. The panel is simply more stable near black and my eyes can pick up on that (dark uniformity - which is by far the biggest variable if we are talking near black presentation - is generally better on QD-Oled too).

Like I had to turn contrast enhancer on to even notice what was happening, but then I'm aware it's over brightening other areas. I recently watched Daredevil and the opening scenes of Matt's face in the confessional are like a Darth Vader mask! I've read up the issue is with Dolby Vision content?
    Is there any way to rectify this - setting etc? Ideally so that I don't have to change settings every time I watch also.
    My last tv was a Sony 55XG and honestly I think I preferred watching content on it as no similar issues. I thought I was going to get a major upgrade from reviews and moving from LED to OLED.

    5:45 Mozart is wrong here. Sony grades their TVs as close as possible to professional monitors. Hence why Sony always win. They are not doing a 'Samsung" thing where Samsung is pushing UNNATURAL colors and saturation. Sony is striving for REAL life colors and images. And Yes they do raise the black level not as a whole, but specifically for each part of a scene to create REAL shadow detail.
    Sony isn't "appealing" to something that isn't correct or 'there'. They are doing it correctly. So many times you see black crush on TVs because they just go black when shadows aren't pure black.
    If it's pure black then it's not a shadow anymore. You can literally stand in your room at night with virtually all lights off and just a tiny LED alarm clock as light source and you can essentially see every corner in that dark room. Most OLED and even some MiniLED (not Sony) would crush it and just show it all as pure black. Then you cannot see the "monster" in the corner.
    Shadow detail is extremely important for realism and seeing a movie properly or a game. It is not a matter of just raising black level to 52. Sony uses processing to lift areas that need to be and keeping the rest normal. That is why at 5:45 or scene before it why S95C and G3 either crush or they over brighten. Yet Sony keeps an even level of the shadows and blacks and lights.

      THANK YOU. As an industry professional it pains me when people misunderstand what the goal is. It isn't "shadow preferred", it is accuracy. Sony explicitly states their goal is reflecting a creator's intent (the so-called "lens to living room" approach). Reviewers use reference monitors to frequently evidence this.

Like The Fog which is one of my personal favorites has immersion killing issues with HDR but with DV the issues are covered up and it looks great.. This isn't how it should be but it's the reality of things. The biggest problem with DV imo is many Studios are not taking the time to maximize it's potential so some content looks truly spectacular while other stuff doesn't. Dolby Vision will always suck as long as it's targeted at pitch black rooms (and this is how Dolby recommends it's done). Consumers do not have movie theater rooms! People have color and they have windows. Some rooms might be dark, but they are not light ~absorbing.
    A big way for HDR content to be improved is simply editing them for rooms with SOME ambient light in mind. Then your blocks won't have to worry about being crushed by limitations of OLED technology and will exist in a more Middle ground easily reproducible way.

      Sony X93L if going for 85" and the X90L for smaller sizes. I would definitely choose the 77" S90C if window sunlight does NOT shine directly on the QD-OLED because it's definitely as bright as the X93L and X90L. Most importantly, you're used to the infinite contrast of OLED so unless you are going 2 sizes larger with the X90L, I'd go with the S90C. I also recommend the Mantel Mount so that the TV can be pulled out and lowered to eye level from above the fireplace!

      how else are you watching Netflix which represents the 80% use case for flagship TV buyers? Kaleidescape doesn't have Dolby Vision and blu-ray discs are near the end of their life in terms of relevance to the 80%. I've already done disc to disc comparisons of DV vs HDR10 vs HDR10+ ad nauseaum and my conclusion stands: DV slightly dimmer APL, occasionally specular highlights might be 5% to 10% brighter but this is the exception depending on the content and color gradient differences are preference but not noticeable unless side by side.

      Bitrates are crucial for image quality, and when done properly on a disc, is incomparably superior. Dark scenes tend to suffer more under low(er) bitrates, as has been noticed by some streaming alleged 4K content on Netflix (which in the UK can be under 10mbps - less than 1080p blu ray rates).
      Obviously this isn't your fault, I understand that you're doing this to represent the current state of the market. Personally I don't want to see the end of disc for multiple reasons, not just bitrates (although that's one of the reasons).
