I literally grew up watching the powerblock every Saturday waiting for trucks to come on to watch kevin do body work and paint, freakin master of the gun.
The PVC thing he was talking about, instead of mounting that vertically, mount it horizontal. If you build it, pull them apart once on the wall. It'll actually put a downward slope to the tubing. The advantage is, you can put a water separator at the bottom instead of a valve at the bottom of each spot and manually draining it. I used 3/4" residential copper for mine, but it was for cooling the air before it went into my tank so I didn't have a bunch of water in it. My setup is a commercial Sanborn unit that puts out 16cfm @ 175psi. Yes, the soldered together copper holds 175psi easy. I also plumbed my garage with 3/4" pex and used brass elbows, fastened with metal crimp rings. Zero issues, been using it like this for the last 8 years and I have dead dry air and no filter system. I spray all kinds of stuff too. Even bought a desiccant setup, it's indicating I don't have any moisture. Was kinda surprised to be honest. Didn't think it'd be quite as good as it is.
We don’t need no stinking editors. Lol! Great work Kevin! I shot instructional videos on stuff for many years. You make it look easy. Clearly in your blood. And passion. I’m a Fan and thanks for great information I’ve always wondered about. You Rock🤙
I know this video is from 2013, however it is one of the best instruction videos Ive ever seen. I cant express how much I just learned and cant wait to try all the methods.
Just used my Eastwood's Concours HVLP to spray their black Urethane Primer on my truck yesterday. I'm an not a pro painter but have painted a few cars in the past. Back then I used my old BinksNo. 7. There's no comparing the two. I used my Concours with my small compressor and used the 1:8 needle. It sprayed beautiful. I'm going to top coat using Eastwood's, Satin Black.
Oh Man..... You are the man on this paint... I have a 1957 chevy hard top and going to follow your instructions to a tee. In youth I painted a lot of cars and tractors... not like the PRO has instructed, but now I can do it the right way. Thanks in advance...
came across this video a few hours before I started my paint job and man did it change up everything that I was about to do and I'm so glad it did. Kevin your tatorial was very educational and in grwat detail and I thank you very much for it my car came out so good way better than I expected and I was so nervous and anxious about applying this very expensive paint. Again thank you and the guys at Eastwood for this video
Ok buddy...that ROCKED!!! I'm about to paint my 1965 Mercury Comet hotrod and this helped me a lot. I used to paint boats when I was younger but the guns and technique was totally different. Thanks!!!
I am restoring a "59 Glastron boat (using high quality marine grade paint) and really appreciate Kevin's instructional videos on using a spray gun, how to practice spraying and fine tuning the different settings on the gun I've also watched Kevin's videos on block sanding which has been very critical in the quality I am looking for in the end. I plan on watching this video a couple more times before applying the final coat.
Dude! thank you so much for explaining sequencing. I winged my first pass and noticed huge inconsistencies when I was painting my car for the first time. your push pull method was very helpful.
Thank you for contributing this. Very thorough and well structured. Covers many topics that other howto videos on youtube do not cover, such as stretching your stop point beyond the seams. Thank you for providing an educational source for us novices to eventually become experts.
Thank you for your help. I can't understand why someone would unlike your contribution, perhaps it's because they don't like themselves. Great lessons, I will study more.
I've been a painter for over 28 years and I learned a lot from you the other night. I think some people like to ignore listening sometimes. I hope to not do that. I will listen.
interesting points ,if anyone else is searching for car spray painting course try Wiltapar Paint Sprayer Secrets (just google it ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my brother in law got amazing success with it.
kelvin... some of your techniques help me lot my dad gave me a small compressor and small conventional paint gun but i manage to paint my home indoor and its look really beautiful rather than hand paint and its very easy to paint with it after mixing proper volume of water and distemper paint and its work really nice but little problem happening about air volume but still its a beautiful thing to do with it and its really fun also.
Really good information Kevin! I will be painting one of my cars very soon, so this information is extremely helpful for me. I can see all the mistakes I would have made, had you not provided this video. A big thanks for sharing!!!
I got a lot of great information from these videos. The only thing I will do differently if I ever paint another car is my panel sequence. I followed the instructions here and found that it was difficult to paint the high flat surfaces without stressing, roof, hood, trunk. I would begin and complete all three coats of paint with the roof, hood and trunk. Then I’d finish the rest of the side work. Same with clear coat. This way I’m not worrying about my air line potentially rubbing against my work. Hard to juggle the high points on a step with the gun and the hose. Unless of course you enjoy juggling. Thanks!
You mister are a PRO! Excellent way to teach and pass on good tips, tricks and valuable information! I need to learn how to paint for a product I am doing, so I am glad you made this video series explaining how things should go and work out. Your style of presenting things is also pleasant and easy to follow! God bless!
You are the best thus...no one else take this much time out to explain shit thus far to explain the exact basics for the beginners thanks bruh you're the best❤❤
That’s one of the fastest 30 minutes I've known for a while. Great video, though as I’m disabled I stand more chance of walking on the moon than painting a car. I like people who are confident in their trade.
I want instructional episodes on what I can do in my driveway/garage WITHOUT a compressor, guns and $10K in overhead. How did they do it in the automobile's Brass Era before compressors were invented? Love the show and I think Kevin Tetz is an outstanding instructor and a pleasure to learn from.
During WW2, my mother very proudly bought a gallon of green car paint, took it home and brushed painted her 36 plymoth. She said it looked very shiny from a distance, but a bit rough up close.
You can plumb an airline with PVC. It will easily handle the pressure needed to run shop air tools. I've used black iron pipe before but you need to put particulate filters at the ends of your runs to catch any rust particles that break loose in the iron pipe. With PVC you can put your filters anywhere in the line that best suits your needs.
No you can not. Over time the pipe can become brittle and after several expansion cycles they burst, it will send shrapnel throughout the shop. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
thanks!, really nice educational video, that`s how you teach, you master your craft, explain with confidence catching the audience for all the run, educators should see people like you to LEARN HOW TO TEACH. liked a lot the cardboard spray pattern, being a welder i know what you`re talking about comfort zone, dumbass of me never applied to painting... now i know...
Why do you not want to use pvc to plumb air? I worked at a heavy truck and equipment shop that plumbed the whole shop with 1 1/4 pvc, with down pipes every so often with drain valves. Seemed to work great. Is painting different?
Kevin, it is comparable to voltage(pressure) and amperage(cfm). You can have high voltage but little amperage so the ability to do work is diminished. Same with psi and cfm.

I should add, I'm probably 110 feet from my pump manifold. Maybe a bit more because of my copper "air dryer", plumbing and air hose.
Kevin is a true legend with professional skills! He explains things very well!
I am spraying furniture for the first time I have been around this for 35 years. I think this video is one of the best I have ever seen

hi mr. Kevin this lesson will be Really insrersted & important person who become really good painter ...
That’s one of the fastest 30 minutes I've known for a while. Great video, though as I’m disabled I stand more chance of walking on the moon than painting a car. I like people who are confident in their trade.
Great Information for beginners and pros. Thanks a lot.

great presentation you are very knowledgeable thanks a lot
Amazing explanation... Id been looking for a video like this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
There is nothing like learning from someone who knows. Thanks Kevin ! You've taken the mystery out of my spray gun set-up,as well as process.
PVC works just fine for me. For a home shop, that is preferably heated, it’s cheap and easy to install.
Great video, thanks! I've painted a few parts that actually turned out decent, but I didn't know squat about air volume/pressure, so this is helpful.
i walk them whether a tri stage or just base/clear, it's a good habit to get into and a good way to avoid excessive film thickness
thank kevin you are a cat that know what is up ..and few of the good shop guys are good teachers or great techers wow great job
Kevin l, this is a great video, very helpful to me. Thank you.
When using valspar and DuPont material use low fluid pressure with about 30lbs air pressure and keep the fan open and even.
Thanks for reminding me and others about the Moisture remover packets in you know what!😊
ya love this guy over on powerblocktv / powernation. he is one of the host of trucks. knows his stuff for sure.
thanks!, really nice educational video, that`s how you teach, you master your craft, explain with confidence catching the audience for all the run, educators should see people like you to LEARN HOW TO TEACH.
liked a lot the cardboard spray pattern, being a welder i know what you`re talking about comfort zone, dumbass of me never applied to painting... now i know...
The craft paint idea is genius . I have some laying around to try out
Why do you not want to use pvc to plumb air? I worked at a heavy truck and equipment shop that plumbed the whole shop with 1 1/4 pvc, with down pipes every so often with drain valves. Seemed to work great. Is painting different?
very useful video, but i have a question, can we repair peeling clear coat without repainting
what a teacher!!!..TY so much for doing these vids!!
Kevin, it is comparable to voltage(pressure) and amperage(cfm). You can have high voltage but little amperage so the ability to do work is diminished. Same with psi and cfm.
Jim Buford good for you
What a nice Person Kevin is
