Same. I’m fixing to tackle my first big project (wreck repair on my truck courtesy of my wife) and have found you guys to be absolutely invaluable as a beginner
My last few projects have been nothing but orange peel so I had to figure out what was wrong, after this video I figured out everything I was doing wrong.painted a roll pan for my truck today as a test panel before I jump on my truck again (yes this is going to be the second time I try and paint it) and the pan came out awesome, really hope I can replicate the results from today on the rest of the truck.
Just make sure you keep that gun moving, and have the right psi , I have also added a little more reducer to thin the paint out and . The key is to take your time and don't put too much paint on your panel in one pass small droplets and just build it up
This is a great video. I worked in an auto paint shop when I was 18. I'm 62 now and I've never seen how to use a spray gun explained so clearly as you have done. My hats off to you Sir.
This setup worked great with my lvlp gun. There are no recommendations for how to use a paint gun in instructions and this gave me great results for my first paint job.
Brian, I have watched several videos on how to set up a spray gun. This is the only one that has made it really clear to me. I thank you for that! I bet your school class excels! Again, thanks for another outstanding video! Phillip Hall
Im nearly ready to paint my first car after 3 yrs of restoration. Your set up technique is on track as to what I was doing but your in depth tutorial has helped me immensely. Thank you ....
Brian, I just wanted to tell you: I watched this video twice last night, set up my gun (THE INTERWEBS HATE IT) today based on your instructions and shot my trunk lid this morning. The paint laid down fantastically well! The only imperfections were via prep, not sprayer. Tonight, after garage temps get out of the 90s, I will apply the clear with just a touch more pressure. Thank you again! Brian
Brian, I just wanted to say thanks, the more I watch your vids, the better I understand the overall concepts, and my projects keep getting better and better. The old school learn by fire methods don't produce as well despite embracing them for years. It goes to show that just because you've been doing something for years doesn't necessarily mean you've been doing it right, or truly understand what's happening.
your a good teacher Brian your knowledge is priceless and your teaching is spot on im 62 been a painter all my life in many different fields .never done automotive but like you say its just paint don't over think it.
Thanks for this. I don't paint cars, but use HVLP guns in my woodworking projects (paints, dyes, sealers and clearcoats), so this information is excellent for woodworkers as well. I needed a quick refresher after not having sprayed in a couple of years.
Really appreciate you taking the time to go over the details here. I'm a novice at spray gun painting and thanks to you I just made my boat consoles look brand new! Cheers!
Brian you have brought me back into the fold. I stopped painting for years, but now i am taking on new little projects and i am reall enjoying it again thanks.
Thanks for such a well explained introduction to setting up the gun. As a former woodwork teacher, I have to say that I'm very impressed with your work. (And just saved this video for future reference.) :-)
Thank you so much for this video. I am planning on spray painting some cabinets that I just finished building and thanks to you, I will be going in doing this project a little more confident seeing that I have never used a paint gun before. Fantastic information.
Thanks for the easy to follow guide, great tutorial and I love the chart, I’ve found it most useful in setting up my gun for my first time using a spray gun! Thanks for giving me the confidence to give it a go.
Thank you bro I started spraying again...took 7 years off n now because of you I did my brothers mustang at his house it came out beautifully....a few runs that were wet sanded out but came out good..thank you
I watched three other videos with similar content before I arrived here, and now (and ONLY now) it all makes sense. Thank you for taking time to put this together and help out a lot of people!
Thank you for such an excellent overview Brian. You explained everything brilliantly - and the fact you went into the actual technique and discipline behind it was even better. You've inspired me. I'm going to order a 100L air compressor and a few HVLP guns and test out my newfound knowledge. On my sisters car first though 😉
I have to say, its been almost 50 years since Ive painted. Using acrylic laquer because Im spraying in my garage and looking for driver quality. Sprayed some primers and came out ok, just knew it could be better. After looking at your video, I sprayed primer on my roof. It came out so much better, my fluid adjustment was perfect with very low overspray. Thank you for the tips!
Brian, I so much appreciate you taking the time to teach. I haven't painted since the 80s (old acrylic enamel days) ha! Things have changed so much every time I watch you it's a learning experience. Im restoring my 67 Fastback and of course i plan to refinish myself, down the road so I watching and learning. thanks for all you do.
This is hands down, by far, the best video available to master your spray gun with!! This is third time I come back here to it to watch it again. Thank you so much for this!
Hey Brian. Your vids are motivating me to start doing my own auto paint shop. I'm a beginner. But i want to know as much as i can. Your vids are very helpful.
Wow! The Gods have aligned the stars in having me stumble upon this video, just as I am embarking on correcting my, new to me, 2012 Lexus CT200H with all its cosmetic faults, e.g. bump & grind parallel parking, front & rear bumpers, crap resprayed front passenger quarter panel and assorted door dings. I call this "urban patina". Practicing everything from chip repairs, panel repaint, paint correction on this car before restoring my 88 Porsche 944S. Your video adds to my confidence. Greatly appreciate it!
Love your motto: "Don't over think it, it's just paint". I fall right into this category and find the over analyzing exhausting, while that physical paint application turns out fine! Great video, and Hi from Australia.
I been sayin for years somebody needs to do auto body and paint consistently on youtube. Your a legend for this man. Your explanations and detail is literally perfect. I might actually give it a shot with some stuff on my rx7, you've given me hope. I have A whole library of videos to go through now. thank you dude.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm a hobbyist who purchased an Iwata LPH-80 gun to paint high power rockets. I was really struggling with gun adjustments and getting a decent paint result. Your video (along with the gun cleaning video) made a HUGE difference in my paint finish results. Thanks again!
I have watched your videos on how to set up your paint gun. Amazing! I decided to paint my car and learned a couple things. One thing i found out the hard way was using rubber gloves. I was painting along and then the sweat just ran out of the glove and down the new paint. Second thing I found was follow the tech sheet for the paint. This single stage paint required 35-45 psi and had the gun at 25 psi and the finish was orange peel. So after waiting a day I sanded the whole car down. I decided to try just doing the front bumper. Sprayed it at 40 psi and it came out amazing. Now I can attempt the rest of the car. Thanks for your videos
Thank you for your demonstration. I'm about to start a project on a 61 Karmann Ghia and it will be my first time painting with a gun. Your explanation was exactly what I needed to hear for adjusting the spray gun.
I know I'm 2 years late to the party but I also wanted to say thanks for this. I'm getting into guitar refinishing using spray and trying to work out where to start/skills to practise etc. I know that there will be a lot of learning by making mistakes but videos like this are very helpful. Thanks again.
Well explained basic controls to spray gun that I tried to learn from painters without any success, for first time an excellent demonstration in short time lecture. great job
I like the way to tell everything make clear crystal sense of doing paint job. I watch every video 2 3 times to make sure I learn better, Thanks for making videos and making our lives easier, Cheers
I have been teaching Collision Repair for 27 years on the high school level. Fantastic job here on this video. Most you find have a problem in one way or another. I spent hours looking for good videos on this topic. Yours is professional and informative! Thank you. I am hoping you have other videos too!
Hey Brian Anthony here I've been watching your videos for a while now and was called in for a job To pay the car for a test to see if I can paint I had no idea what I was doing until I saw your videos and then I sprayed the car and actually got the job thank you so much for everything
I've just found your channel and I love it. You explain it so even the novice can do it. I've decided that I am going to pait my 1973 fiat. I can't wait to apply your tips.

you dont know how much your video helped me , i bought a devlibiss gun and startet painting my scooter 2 weeks ago, the 1k base layer was pretty good, but with 2k i had serious problems, it looked terrible, and i couldnt figure out what i am doing wrong, i tried more thinner, more air, less air, it was a mess. today i tried what you are showing, pull it and than tight the screw, i put the compressor to 6 bar and regulatet the gun to 2 bar and it worked perfect, really smooth professional looking finish, im so thankful, nobody could explain me what to do, but you are doing it so detailed and i just wanted to let you know how precious your videos are, sry for my english, tried my best, regards from germany!
Dear Brian, with the help of your videos, I was able to spray paint a 2K water-based polyurethane varnish over a homemade frame for a picture. Of course, I was using only a very basic spray gun (46€) and a very small compressor (24 liters of volume), but the end result was good. Thanks.

I've recently only started watching your videos...I must say I'm very impressed with your teaching and skills...Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge..awesome!!
I’ve gotten great results using the HF spray gun. Set the pattern knob at 3/4 open and the volume at 3 1/4 open. This guy is a pro, I’m not, but like I said. I‘ve had good luck with those settings
This is a great tutorial. The problem I have is that I paint a car about once every 10 or 15 years. Each time I have to learn to set up the gun again. It is really hard to spray enough material through a gun to get it right without wasting all the material. In the past I have "practiced" with the primer coat. With this information, I am hoping I can at least get a good starting point and keep some sort of track of the adjustments. I have an old Craftsman gun (in really good confition - I take good care of it), but they dont make the manual for it any more so I think I will try the 22 psi to start. Thanks for a lifesaver video.
Help always sprays droplets. That was the hardest part to get use to when I was painting aircraft in the Navy. We went from pressure pot to HVLP! Totally different !
Hey Brian Anthony here again hey I've been painting for years but I've been doing it all wrong my setup my airflow everything was just totally wrong so again thank you so much for everything I will continue watching your videos and learning more thanks a lot bro you have a good one
