Thank you! I'm in the middle of painting a Corvette hood. I swear half of the primer was going everywhere *except* for the hood. After watching this, I finally got the pressure, fan, etc. worked out.
I did my carbon fiber custom paint job last weekend ... after watching just about every Martin video. This video however was not out. I think my fan size was way too much so I was swimming in paint dust. My box fan for evacuating the overspray was just not turning over the air fast enough. I think the paint job came out pretty good in spite of being my first time doing a spray job. Thanks Martin for all your videos and expert instruction. The review Elena’s project was quite helpful also.
Perfect!!! This is the info I needed!! I set my air pressure on compressor AND air gun and when I spraying the air pressure was dropping to 20psi! So now when I fill up the air compressor.. 27 gallon tank shuts off at 200psi, then leave second gauge on compressor on zero, then attach hose and spray gun and hold gun trigger full on and turn knob slowly to set air pressure on spray gun gauge to 35psi then let go of trigger spray gun? Now I’m hopefull!!
Could you make a video about different paint types (water based, thinner based), the guns you use for them (tip size, airbrush) and their application (plastic, metal, etc)? I have been looking all over the internet but can't seem to find good information on that :)
I just bought a Sealey HVLP741 to spray some small and medium sized parts for my Land Rover restoration and I cannot get it set up. Very little paint coming out. This is an excellent video and I hope to try out the settings that you have demonstrated. I cannot see a way of changing the fan size at all, though.
If you close your eyes its clearly an asian talking about spray guns...overallll!!! Helped alot been wanting a spray gun for awhile now so now i can see its no different than an airbrush style
Thank you for the info. I just bought a spray gun like you are using to do what I call "Mickey-Mouse" painting. I am not a painter but you have given me a wealth of info on what to do. Thank you again.
I am just learning how to use these tools. I also wanted to ask what the minimum air compressor needed is and if a tankless compressor is able to be used. I want to paint small projects which are about 1-2ft cube. Also, what types of paints can be used? What are the smallest compressors that can be used?
I did not know that the pressure was set with the gun wide open. The pattern width I understood but the vale of the needle position adjustment was not clear. I have used cheap HF 20oz guns and have had good luck after filling a bit dialing them in while cleaning them with solvent (usually water or mineral spirits dusted). But this will help get it correct before shooting my project.
Love your videos. Do you have a tutorial on decals? Also, do you know how to safely remove material from carbon fiber? I want to remove paint from both bikes and tennis rackets, but i can't find any good tutorials anywhere that show the entire process. They usually just show one sanding step with nothing about cleanup or prep and it is very frustrating for a beginner like me.
Thanks for the video. I noticed in the description the dewalt sprayer you recommended. Can that sprayer spray water-based paints? I typically spray wood products not auto. Is this sprayer somewhat easy to clean ?
Martin, I appreciate your videos, I've watched so many of them! I have one question about sprayguns though, is it possible to change the nozzle needle tip from 1.2 to 1.8 on the Iwata so I can spray primer and then change again to spray basecoat and clearcoat ?
Thank you for your great video. What air compressor do you use, power, cfm, vessel capacity? What air hose do you use, length and inner diameter? From your video it looks like you are connecting a Prevost S1 connector to your Iwata gun (W400 BellAria?). Is it with the "spraying hose" from Prevost which is anti-static and with a 9 or 10 mm inner diameter? I have an AEG 50l 3HP belt driven compressor aspiring 360 l/ min, so it may deliver 70% if we are optimistic that is about 250 l/min. I intend to spray with a Walcom slim Kombat spraygun HTE 1.3 tip that requires 265 l/min or 9.3 cfm, so I am a bit short on cfm. Would a 13 mm inner diameter hose minimise pressure and cfm losses? Thanks for your advice.
Hey there ...quick question and thanks in advance for your great video and stuff...Ok...for a bike frame and small jobs what size compressor in litres and type of compressor do you use etc...also what size would you also suggest for car panels bonnet roof door etc.. toying on buy a compressor and would like your advice on capacity etc...cheers man.Noze x
Hi Martin, I'm sorry if you've answered this a million times already but I see some people use a knife to scrape off the top layer of paint instead of using sandpaper. It looks a lot quicker? You obviously have to be super careful you don't knick the carbon but to just scrape away the top layer of paint seems ok? Thanks
@Get it up you thanks man, I bought the sandpaper, 360 and 600, gonna start on the fork and see how it goes, fortunately have a custom bike painter quite close by to help with the painting 👍
Hello, can I spray 2K clear coat with HVLP mini spray gun 0,8-1mm? The reason I would like to use a small one is Im spraying steel frames made of 1 inch x 1 inch square profiles. Thank you.
When I set the pressure to 2 bar at the gun with the trigger pulled it works fine. But when I release the trigger, the gauge at the gun reads like 7 bar. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong? I've got a 100L 2HP compressor and I lose like half a bar of pressure when I paint one streak on the roof.
@@ETOE Thanks man. It would solve everything because I can allow it to drain further that way. What size hose would you recommend? Would I need to change the fittings on the tank as well?
I need help you inspired me to do a bike. leaving the frame Steel spraying the forks racing green need a video on how to do a raw steel frame i have been sanding for a week help me
@Get it up you Your principles are correct, but the reality of painting a bike in your garage presents a lot of problems in keeping the frame perfectly clean and free of any oxidation before getting clear onto the raw steel. For serial production it would be possible to create a paint shop that can do this, but it will be hard to do at home. Also, it will be easy to chip the clear over raw steel as the adhesion of clear coat on top of steel isn't great. As soon as you chip the clear you will start to get rust propagating from that chip. A normal primer-paint-clear coating will be much more durable when out on the streets in everyday use and is much easier to execute well at home in your garage.
I just realized the guns in the description say mini hvlp gun does it matter what size it is its for a whole truck if not so i can return it i did not read right ahaha Edit i got the mini spray gun the first link under that i got too exited and did not read
If I understand correctly, if you are a pro you should never use a pressure gauge but just listening to the sound the gun makes. That's total BS because every spray guns sounds differently and plus the gun manufacturers ask you to have a regulator at your spray gun. Probably for consistency
Does the quick connect on the air inlet use an oring or anything to seal it? I know they’re commonly an NPS non tapered thread so it’s supposed to have something to seal it but I can’t find any real info about it
This gentleman should teach youtubers how to do a proper instructional video, clear concise and to the point, great job. Thank you.
That was as clear and precise, no fancy video effect or useless slowmo…. Just everything we need to ear. thanks mate
Bravo. One of the best and to the point videos I’ve seen. German quality.

Adjusting air pressure to fan size - I don’t think I’ve seen that mentioned before. Makes total sense.
Wow, quick, concise and full of good information. Doesn't get any better than that. Thanks.
Thanks a lot.

Gradual manual..! I love fast information
Super video! Danke! Aber isn't it that when you open the fan it is less pressure and when you have a closed fan it is more pressure...
Love the energy on this vid 😄

Wow. Thank you brother.
Great video thank you 👍🏻
Eres el B..... maestro! Gracias!
No, you open the gun only half way to the Air only max position, then you setup the PSI. That's Air. When you fully open that's Air + Paint.
Welcher Druckminderer ist das? Welchen kannst du empfehlen? Danke im Voraus
Spraying for the first time today. We will see what happens. Metallics of course.

Yes and yes.
HV & HP & LV concerned air or paint? Thank you

can you connect that gun to a GRAKO HVLP 9.5?
This for spray gun HVLP, for LVMP, what same ?

If you find a nozzle for this particular gun yes. I would never spray primer, base and clear in the same gun.

I Have a big problem with my gun , i Have some spraying goals ... Idk why it's first time..
Hi Martin. Great Videos and excellent job! How long do I have to wait before I can apply the clear coat after I finished the colored layers?
Normally two slices of tuna pizza. If it is chilli pizza then one and a half slice.
