I love when you get ‘honest’ with people mate. You’re the ‘pro’ and the ‘teacher’ in your shop and show…I would think Jolene and Jim would be very appreciative of your honesty. If those watching can’t handle it…that’s their problem. 👍🏻
I used to work with a painter when I was a young man, he could fix a wrecked car an put a beautiful paint job on it .He didn't have a nice paint booth. Just an old metal building and we had just finished painting a car one day and someone came by and banged on the door. Dust just filtered down all over our pretty paint job. As far as taping a car up,I've done that too. Watching your videos brings back memories. Thanks Chad!!
I am older. I work and learn - pride that I do my best. Watching you for my first time, you bring my memories of my time prior to my now 17 surgeries (most big ones happened to my spine). But watching you reminded me of working hard on repairing and painting my mom's car so many years ago. Today I remember my mom's pride in her son and several body/painters complimenting me on a fantastic job well done under the conditions I faced. To you I complement you on the work you have done with the results you have achieved throughout your shop..... Fantastic to an older fellow who prides myself in doing the best job I was able and truthfully you do the same!!!
Hi Chad, necromancing here. I heard your name mentioned in a less than favorable way, so I had to check you out 🤣🤣 First, people want to be told what they want to hear, not the truth. All reality shows are scripted, even the Automotive shows. Anyway, well done, seeing as you don't have a multimillion dollar facility, you contend with the reality of this, and as far as I am concerned, you are doing a great job. Don't worry about the haters, as the song says, "it's your thing, do what you want to do". Also I could actually see the color of the paint going to red in the cup, so I knew you would be OK, your video's will help a lot of DIYers. Oh and thanks for keeping it PG13, and not every third word a bomb. Blue Mule
I love it that you are honest and straightforward. You can tell you love making these videos. To hell with the haters, they are just jealous that they cant be you.
Looks great, you are obviously a talented painter. There are little things we do differently, but what matters most is ending with a result you are happy with, not the tiny habits everyone does a little differently. Very nice work.
Hey Chad. Been a fan for years. What I love is your passion to do things your way. Being creative and different is what I do and you have reinforce my drive to do things. Hopefully one day we can meet and chat. Keep up the great work.
Love it!! Tell the truth. Haven't been in a paint booth in 40 years. You remind me of the REAL Paint and Body artist from my day. I could still smell the paint when you shot the hood and the trunk. Great work!!
I'm amazed at all the different trades chad has, then he combines them all for a finished costum project. There are only a few of us that are that talented. He reminds me of myself when painting, always checking and very impatient for the final finished product. People have no idea how much work there is to get to the actual stage of painting. The easy part is the spraying. Great job Chad.
The easy part is spraying? Yeah ok 👌🏼 painting an even film, even texture, no dry spots, no runs, while keeping overlap even, keeping paint to a desired and consistent peel throughout the entire job. All while not spraying to heavy to prevent solvent pop but also not to light. Then keeping in mind to give proper flash time so that the paint doesn't dieback on you. And while doing all of that still making sure to not get to much dirt into your paint. I could keep going but I think you get my drift. Mr. BODYMAN 😂😅
I have been told by paint companies that the same paint may not match depending on what batch it was made from. so when I buy paint in 2 different containers to make sure my car matches I will mix the same colors together in containers. So if i bought 1 gallon and a pint or 2 gallons I would pour them together and mix and them pour them back into their original paint buckets. Now I know that both buckets have been mixed and will match. This has happened to me before so I play it safe.
That Merc is a cool design, but what you did with that back clip is nothing short of sculpture. So relentlessly cool. Evan though my line of work has me spraying lacquer on guitars, i'm still getting great spray gun info from your videos. Thanks so much! Orange peel is good to avoid regardless of the coating!
Thanks for your videos I am an industrial mechanic have been for the last 40 years so I’ve got a kubota tractor I baby it had a large branch come down and broke my instrument cover and dented my hood so I have everything flat and straight thanks to you and now I’m getting ready to pour some paint on and strange as it is I’m shooting that same color orange so this video I believe was meant for me to see I’ve painted before but it’s been over 38 years and the paint supplies have changed drastically so with your help I will shoot this like a pro and get it back up and ready for new dents and dings thanks again for your sharing of your experience and your time I look forward to seeing your next video and learning more about this new method of art work. It’s with Great Respect. RR
Love to see Chad do some paint work. He has his own style of work and the results are great. Definitely I'm going to try it to paint on a high pressure.
I am a collision tech for a ver large company and I appreciate your show and enjoy what you do a hundred times better than those fancy car shows! The reason is because what you do is real and the same way I do things. I am the lead tech for my company’s apprenticeship program and I teach very similar to you ! I don’t sugar coat anything and let them know that I can’t teach what they are not willing to learn and that comes with getting scrutinized for their actions, this is very hard for this pampered younger generation! Keep it up Chad I love what you are doing and you have a fan for life . I just recently discovered that you are on social media!!!!
I know this is an older video, but I really enjoy learning all the little things u do. I've been able to weld up my truck without warping the metal and I've saved money by following what you do. Keep the great content coming bro!
Chad the paint looks awesome. As you are showing it takes a lot to build, restore or modify a car. Everyone does it in their own way and that's what makes it fun. Thanks for the great content. Hoping to see you and Jolene and one of your creations at the Nationals this summer.
thank you for making videos that cater to those of us who try and enjoy a wide gamut of these hobbies. Though I have "mastered" none of them, I enjoy them all. fabwork, paint and body, engine work etc and I do most all my own work on my projects. I appreciate you showing your mistakes and the remedies because EVERYONE has mistakes in their work whether they show them or not. Your willingness to show yours helps others feel confident enough to keep going and enjoying doing these things. Appreciate ya Sir!
Chad, such a wealth of knowledge in every video. Amazing tips and tricks for all us home garage guys! I am in the process of rebuilding a 99 bug with my boys and they always sit back and watch the episodes on we weekend when we catch up.
The reality of your show is why I keep watching , I’ve applied some of your ways to my project and it’s just what you say Chad . No BS Love you guys !! All of you
I enjoy watching your channel! It reminds me of when I learned auto body work and the men I learned from would tell a guy exactly what was on their minds.
I love it when Jolene takes us on a short look about while Chad is inspecting the efforts of his labors; I feel like I am in good hands which must be similar to Chad”s experience.
As I ride the struggle bus here trying to do a tri-color blow-in, the beautiful flowout of your paint makes me envious to say the least. You are a true craftsman, but you've heard that a million times before I'm sure. Best to you and Jolene.
Hi Chad and Jolene, Chad you do a great job considering the work conditions you have to deal with. If I could give one piece of advice it would be for you to cut in around the edges, windshields etc. then spray the main parts. I have been painting cars for over 35 years and this has worked the very best for me.
I agree, am I wrong but it seems like the air was up way too high and that is why he has all the fallout? It may have been just the way the camera showed it to me.
I have been watching you for a while now and appreciate all that you and Jolene do. I have come a long way from where i started by watching yalls tutorials. thanks
One of the things I truly love about your videos is that is pretty raw and unfiltered. If you make a mistake you own it. Explain what you tried to do, and then we get get to see you 'fix' the mistake. I love your honesty brother, never stop!!!
One of the best car builders I've ever seen and I've seen them all from Boyd Coddington,Gene Whitfield,Chip Foose..Bad Chad is my favorite cause he shows you if you don't need a ton of money to build a car just the will and imagination and good work ethic..
You should always pour all of your paint into one bucket and mix it together before you break the painting up into segments. It prevents the color changes.
Great job Chad and Jolene! Love the videos. Very inspirational! I’ve been to NS a couple of times for work (Halifax area) . You guys have some very hard winters! And I thought Ohio was bad!! Can’t wait to see Elvis completed!
Chad your rants are purposeful and appreciated. Your successful results with your paint room as it is currently is amazing. Great content the format is better than the TV show.
I love the simplicity of your booth. I've recently well....for the last 3yrs been moving towards starting my own liquid wrap/vinyl wrap/paint business, and I've found myself so worried about everything when it comes to the build, and design of my booth, as it is a home made booth, and not a professional $20,000+ one. Just relieves some of my stress to see the quality of work that can be accomplished with so little...not that your shop is trash, or anything like that I'm just saying it's pretty cool. You're one of us...just a hard working down to earth dude that's earned his way in life with what he had.
Great job on the trunk and the hood. I couldn't tell much difference between the 2 cans myself. Awesome job by Chad and Jolene. Always remember when you tell the truth, you don't have to remember which lie you told.
I like how honest you are. An explain why an how you are doing things. You’re one of the top notch builders in the car industry. Love watching you on Facebook and this RUclips
Here we have a one-man crew explaining us what he is doing and why, and working on what he believes and just with the resources he has. And supported by his girlfriend. Great! In this channel you don't need a troupe of clowns making bad jokes and acting silly and fake scripts. Many of the other channels on restoring cars make that mistake. Chad is different. That's why we watch his show.
I think your a man of integrity and doing the best with what you have. There are times when we obsess over the smallest detail. When time and circumstances don't allow for such luxury, we make do and accept what has to be. At the end of the day your doing what you Love and living the dream. You are blessed and it's a pleasure to see your creation.
Chad, I've been following you for a while and have great respect for what you do in your workshop. What I love is that you do all this without very expensive equipment. But sometimes I ask myself some questions about the tittles that you put in your videos. For example, Spraying with a very cheap paint gun without having orange peel. If your parts are sprayed in this video, you do not show that you do not have an orange peel. I certainly expected you to want to prove this, for example by putting a light on it or zooming in with the camera. We have not been able to see this at all.
I have no experience painting cars but I’ve got an ass of experience painting cabinets . Always used oil based products. I’ve found that if you have two separate containers of paint it’s best to “box” (mix) them together to assure color consistency. After boxing is the time to separate. I also use a product called Bloxygen to extend the shelf life and prevent skin over. It’s an inert gas that settles on top of the paint and pushes the air aside or if you use enough completely out of the can. If you have leftover paint from a job it’s great for long time storage. I really enjoy your videos and someone else commented that they liked that there was no raucous music to drown the speaking, I concur. One last comment. The worst part of spraying is the gun cleaning. I always tried to capture as much of the cleaner solvent as possible and let it “settle out” for a day or two and poured it into a container to be re-used as a gun cleaner again. After spraying used solvent through a few times I’d then switch to new for a couple of cleanings. Solvent costs more than gasoline so it deserves to be used as much as you can.
29:18 I love the truth! I just shaved my first engine bay and taught myself to weld doing so, without the truth my engine bay wouldn’t be smooth! I had to swallow my pride and ask for guidance!
As a compliment, your the Mr. Rogers of builders. He didnt need a university or curriculum to mould minds through honesty, nobility and humility in a humble home. Keep ypur head up and dont let the hype get in your head. Your always welcome here in San Antonio Texas
Hi Chad & Jolene .. I appreciate the Straight Shooting Truth .. Compared to some of the other Car Shows that hide behind hundreds of retakes and cut-away scenes, your Real World format is very refreshing .. You Two keep doing what you do.
As a house painter we used to pour the two cans back and forth to make sure the color was the same. Great video. I want to learn how to paint automotive, I have a 1927 Chevy i am redoing and i can not afford a hired $10K paint job. I like the pride of doing it myself.
Awesome instruction Back in the 80s. We used to mist our paint room with water to keep the dust down prior to painting. It was difficult for a kid to understand "mist" vs "drench".
I somehow ended up here watching spray videos as I build 1/14 scale Tamiya semi Trucks and I'm so glad I did, your personality and humbleness won my subscription and I look forward to watching more of your amazing videos.. Take care amd stay safe.. Scotty from the other side of the pond 👍👌
Man, I am just a home-garage builder, doing my best and learning all along the way. I really appreciate the plain talk and no-candy-coated-bullshit approach. Subbed.
Just discovered Chad. One of a kind. (aren't we all?) I like the way he paints. Clean sweeps-perfect overlapping/ Gonna have to find some of his finished work. He is obviously an old school hot-rodder from the glory days automobiles.
Aloha Chad This video is the first of many that I need to watch. I scrolled through your video list, I’m looking for basic taping of a car so I can paint it. I’m not in your caliber of bodywork or painting, but I’d like to learn. I’m 55 years old and want to try something new. Any tips or instructions from you would be a big help for me. Also sorry for your bad weather, I’m in Hawaii, I wish I could send you some of my sunshine.
Just know what the Bible says about truth. It says know the truth and tell the truth and the truth shall set you free. And I think that you Chad is a extremely honest person and tells the truth in everything That you do. And your work is some of the best work on You tube. Or as good or better than the other car vehicle fabricators on RUclips. I sincerely enjoy your and Jolene’s channel. And that is the TRUTH ! ! ! ! 💨 !
Man your skills are off the chain. I love watching skilled painted lay it down. I’m watching videos because I plan on painting some wheels I bought today. So thanks for the knowledge 👍🏽
your slowly becomming my idol ive been in the car dealer business for 20 years and i know alot about cars i was a service tech for chrysler dodge and honda i love workn on em but i cant physically do it any more when i get back to work im gonna save me some money find a decent squrebody chevy somechere i know where theres a couple been sittn for years im probably going to rebuild one thats my dream maybe one day it will come true for now i have to get a job and back to work had a fallen out so to seak amonth ago and quit only been out for a month so have an interview tomorrow hope all goes well
I really appreciate the sentiment about truth, you never have to explain yourself when you speak the the truth. Plus being yourself is the greatest thing a person can do
Chad, When I was getting into doing paint work I had an old timer tell me to lay a chain over the axle of the car I was painting and let the chain lay on the concrete. He said it would ground it and reflect dust from sticking to it due to static cause by wiping it down before paint when you are using wax cleaners or tack-rags. It has always worked for me, give it a shot my friend and let me know. I have never tried grounding things when on those work horses though but I am sure it will work.
Friendly advice from a retired paint sprayer clean gun before spraying colour coats correct spraying technique start from the edge of the panel and work to the middle then go round and spray from the middle to the outside edge then across the front taking in all edges that way you have a continual wet edge try it confidence and practice oh and put all colour into one container stir well can't go wrong
hillbillymark here from ontario- i love your insight and vision to keep things simple and artistic, you are one very tallented individual. fantastic work.
first time watching you. Like the way you present things, have been looking for a straight forward explaination of painting with one step. thanks I wondered if each coat was sprayed the same and you cleared that up. thanks again keep warm
I’ve never done car paint before my ute is my first project I’m in New Zealand and been checking out your channel for some time now so not started yet but I think I’ve got my shit together for the job 👀👀👀
I enjoyed watching you. From all the RUclips videos I watched yours is the best. I use to spray cars and getting ready to redo a c/10. 86. But to the point you are the only one I found that lays the paint down like I did. Thanks.
Luv watching try to follow all but miss out now and then, not to worry as I can always go back and watch them. Truly enjoy all the tricks for metal working you give out. From down under in Australia.
Thanks Chad we know you are very truthful and that’s a part of your appeal and Dae and I really appreciate the work that you do and we have learned a lot from your videos so keep being truthful and doing what you do us folks from Montana will keep watching and enjoying your work.
That's a good spray job I use a wheelchair and have sprayed Some of my cars years ago when I was younger so I know what it takes to do a good job thanks for sharing
Nice lesson this is how I have taught my self to spray cheap urathane and single stage paints with a cheap 40 dollar harbor freight gun to avoid orange peel and flaws in the paint and comes out nice and flat and shiny with no imperfections. Only difference is when I do my first coat I paint it medium coat then my last 2 coats are literally as wet as I can get each coat right until it runs and is to wet so right before that point and it takes practice to get it right and know by just watching the paint and being able to have the eye for it but once you do it's very easy building scale model cars actually taught me that method and skill to paint car bodies with no runs and no orange peel and get a thick beautiful shiny glass paint job believe it or not model cars taught me how to paint cars sounds crazzy but true. But my way I learned of doing it almost exactly like your way of doing it after I watched more into the video so thanks for showing us all your tips and tricks in your videos very helpful. The way I avoid the light dust aka dry paint particles from coming back down and sticking to my freshly painted car as in my circle track latemodel and super stock or my hot rods I build is to wet floor and then I visquen the big two barn doors I open them then put the plastic sheeting then stick a blower fan to blow it all out I use two of those sealed around with the same plastic sheets covering openings cuse barn doors are open then I have two decent high power fans on each side of car one up front and one at the rear on opposite side blowing straight up and it helps a lot and I rarely get paint dust on my panels anymore cause that dry overspray paint dust will ruin a decent or nice paint job then you gotta wet sand with 5k grit sand paper and buff and polish it out
Brother. Your as good a philosopher as you are a painter. Lol. I don't understand your profession I've never tried to paint anything significant. But in the event I ever do. Your channel will be where I go to find honest work and advice. It's refreshing to hear you talk
I am gathering information related to the topic you are addressing, to repair a rear fender wheel well that is rusting on me. So you are totally correct the viewer, well at least this one, appreciates the facts or truth on how to apply the correct procedure to accomplish such a repair. Not interested in babble or entertainment at this stage of gaining information on how to address the fix. Good job as usual. Thanks much. Harold.
never watched your channel before now, but right off the bat you have my respect!! there is comfort in lies but pain in the truth to many people accept comfort in the lie, the the reality in the truth!! keep true to yourself buddy, and keep being truthful!!
Dude you tell it like it is, if you haven't been in this industry then you have no idea what goes into the end result, been doing this in the UK restoring vw beetles and campervans, folks have absolutely no idea what is involved in the restrictions, I'm with you dude 💪💪
Brother you have a really really gifted mind for painting cars, you're technique is as good as anything I've seen. You could use some upgrades on the paint booth, but you already know that.
I love when you get ‘honest’ with people mate. You’re the ‘pro’ and the ‘teacher’ in your shop and show…I would think Jolene and Jim would be very appreciative of your honesty. If those watching can’t handle it…that’s their problem. 👍🏻
Orange peel in the paint color
Did get old car furnished yet
Do you internship for college students in your area help students learn from you style restoring old cars & pickups
You want truth
No one wants see waves in the body work!!!?‽

Chad shows how to do it his way - and it works! Jolene has a steady hand with the camera as always.
I love it that you are honest and straightforward. You can tell you love making these videos. To hell with the haters, they are just jealous that they cant be you.
Us on RUclips appreciate you Chad, both you and jolene are a breath of fresh air, keep up the good work and take no notice of the haters 👍

Big thanks to Chad and crew for bringing great learning content to so many. Jim is a true to a honorable person as the come.
I picked up a 16 gallon Craftsman Shop vacuum with HIPA filter. Garage/shop clean. I put a rag in the mouth to drag clean a surface.

Love to see Chad do some paint work.
He has his own style of work and the results are great.
Definitely I'm going to try it to paint on a high pressure.
My buddy who worked in the industry for years , always cranked my pressure up !!!
The extra pressure sure works out well for him. Have to give it a try.
High pressure, Low volume. Two different things!

Shoot straight brother I love the videos. I consider you the working man’s teacher and appreciate the truth
Chad, your dialog on lying is spot on. I recently experienced this and you are absolutely correct. Thank you

I’m learning a lot from your videos preparing for my Duster build. You bring knowledge and common sense together. Keeping it real!
One of the things I truly love about your videos is that is pretty raw and unfiltered. If you make a mistake you own it. Explain what you tried to do, and then we get get to see you 'fix' the mistake.
I love your honesty brother, never stop!!!
I watch a lot of painter's on RUclips and most of them put the video on fast time , Chad is up there with the best in my opinion, I love watching.
One of the best car builders I've ever seen and I've seen them all from Boyd Coddington,Gene Whitfield,Chip Foose..Bad Chad is my favorite cause he shows you if you don't need a ton of money to build a car just the will and imagination and good work ethic..
Chad. Im going through some hard times. Your videos bring some peace to my life. Just the way you communicate and go about life. Thank you
You should always pour all of your paint into one bucket and mix it together before you break the painting up into segments. It prevents the color changes.
whats the best psi

I know right how many quarts went on a hood and deck?😂
😊 1:46
Did you even watch the video? Lol
You should have painted it for him
Good on you joleen for patting the dog.
Great job Chad and Jolene! Love the videos. Very inspirational! I’ve been to NS a couple of times for work (Halifax area) . You guys have some very hard winters! And I thought Ohio was bad!! Can’t wait to see Elvis completed!
You guys are awesome, you got fans out here in British Columbia 😁
4 sure. just dont be a big ike.
I agree! All of what you said keeps me watching.
Cant stand those lame ass jokers who want to add commedy to the shows...you know who you are
I think your a man of integrity and doing the best with what you have.
If it bothers you, go away.
What pressure do you spray at. Thanks
As a house painter we used to pour the two cans back and forth to make sure the color was the same. Great video. I want to learn how to paint automotive, I have a 1927 Chevy i am redoing and i can not afford a hired $10K paint job. I like the pride of doing it myself.
Awesome instruction
Back in the 80s.
Scotty from the other side of the pond 👍👌
like your show, wondering how much air pressure u spray with
Man, I am just a home-garage builder, doing my best and learning all along the way. I really appreciate the plain talk and no-candy-coated-bullshit approach. Subbed.
Very talented individual ..
Just discovered Chad. One of a kind. (aren't we all?) I like the way he paints. Clean sweeps-perfect overlapping/ Gonna have to find some of his finished work. He is obviously an old school hot-rodder from the glory days automobiles.
Love the color and all the expertise you share with us. Looking forward to seeing the final paint job. Thank you!
Aloha Chad
This video is the first of many that I need to watch.
I scrolled through your video list, I’m looking for basic taping of a car so I can paint it.
I’m not in your caliber of bodywork or painting, but I’d like to learn. I’m 55 years old and want to try something new. Any tips or instructions from you would be a big help for me.
Also sorry for your bad weather, I’m in Hawaii, I wish I could send you some of my sunshine.
love your honesty love your work
Just know what the Bible says about truth.
It says know the truth and tell the truth and the
truth shall set you free.
And I think that you Chad is a extremely
honest person and tells the truth in everything
That you do.
And your work is some of the best work on
You tube.
Or as good or better than the other car vehicle
fabricators on RUclips.
I sincerely enjoy your and Jolene’s channel.
And that is the TRUTH ! ! ! ! 💨 !
You’re the man! Truth rocks!
Man your skills are off the chain. I love watching skilled painted lay it down. I’m watching videos because I plan on painting some wheels I bought today.
So thanks for the knowledge 👍🏽

I really appreciate the sentiment about truth, you never have to explain yourself when you speak the the truth.
Plus being yourself is the greatest thing a person can do
It's always fun to see a conscientious craftsman doing their trade to the best of their ability and experience.
Your discussions about life are top-notch, and help me to remember the trade lessons you give due to the value of your conversations.👍🏿
What psi are you spraying at? Nason paints are fantastic
hillbillymark here from ontario- i love your insight and vision to keep things simple and artistic, you are one very tallented individual. fantastic work.
first time watching you.
That's a good spray job I use a wheelchair and have sprayed
Some of my cars years ago when I was younger so I know what it takes to do a good job thanks for sharing
It's refreshing to hear you talk
thank you Sir always good to take these lessons even at 70! Merci from France
Thanks for these videos. They are a great help for preparing to paint my own car at home.
Harold.
never watched your channel before now, but right off the bat you have my respect!!
there is comfort in lies
but pain in the truth
to many people accept comfort in the lie, the the reality in the truth!!
keep true to yourself buddy, and keep being truthful!!
Dude you tell it like it is, if you haven't been in this industry then you have no idea what goes into the end result, been doing this in the UK restoring vw beetles and campervans, folks have absolutely no idea what is involved in the restrictions, I'm with you dude 💪💪
the quickest form of communication is the truth. i really like that! good line!
The is the only way your right about that doing a great job keep it up
They don't like hearing about the truth they wouldn't know about that
You no there back woods just letting you know
Brother you have a really really gifted mind for painting cars, you're technique is as good as anything I've seen. You could use some upgrades on the paint booth, but you already know that.
What a great and down to earth guy,i really enjoyed the video thankyou and the paint looks amazing.
