I gotta say.. the Jim episodes are always uplifting and fun to watch! Nice to watch folks getting things done as well as exercise their sense of humor. 😁
I paint my cars with Rustoleum . I thin it 50% with mineral spirits and apply it with a white foam roller. It flows out and smooth and dry to the touch in 30 min. It takes about six coats to get full coverage. I wet sand it after the third coat with 320 and 2000 after the 6th coat then I buff it. I get good results and its cheap and durable.
From one eccentric character on the West Coast, Jim is a wonderful, character. He has his way of thinking through his problems, and Chad, brilliantly, adds the magic ingredients (reducer and hardener), to make the plan workable. I love that Olds hardtop. It was the only Olds from that model year that I liked. What a fun hour.
Any old guy will know exactly what they’re doing, that’s what we did as kids with no money and working on a $100.00 car. That was our Friday night lights. HaHa
i"ve used Coleman fuel on the cheap, it's mostly Naptha , or just get some Naptha. Toulene, Xylene works, laquer thinner flattens it a bit you can cut it with mineral spirits to slow it. Japan drier is also what we used traditionally as a painter to speed drying of residential, commercial and industrial oil base paints. Retired painter
Me and the painter I was working for, painted an old 85 dodge van I had years ago,, with some oil base, high gloss industrial paint and some foam rollers and brushes. Did a little sanding and primer smoothed some bumps and dents then taped and rolled it out. It looked great. It was already white but a lot of small dings and scratches damage. Was ready for work the next morning. It was so smooth. We knew nothing about spaying but rolled out hundreds of gallons, so that helped.
Its great that Chad and Jolene are respectful with Jimbo and watch out for him, says a lot about the kind of people they are. Also how did you guys ever meet Jim in the first place?
"20 ga. .... it's thicker than no metal." 😆😆😆 Addendum: Just got to the part where he used his fingers with the roller. So awesome. I might not agree with the methods, but I give high marks for gumption! Sounds like Jim wants a little patina on that sucker. Totally doable. Sand off some paint and squirt some vinegar and salt mixure on the bare metal. It'd be tough to match the variety of tones in rust, so might as well use real rust.
Jim is a piece of work but I guess it works for him. I would not be screwing up one of the most iconic designs of all time. A one of a kind 57 Olds. Who in their right mind would paint like that?
You guys need to get some of those heat lamps, you probably find them better for people that grow the wacky tobacky. But you plug them in and watch the disc barely moving and turn one on and it starts going like a disco record round n round.. Man the Acrylic I get down at the paint supplies you thin like 50/50 . .I like it because you only need to buy half the paint to do a car than 2 pack and it's easier to sand and work with.. Plus you really not supposed to spray 2 pack in a residential area, you used to be able to get away with it - but now they are cracking down on it and starting to fine people , and I'm not talking parking fine money either..
My name is Jim and I'm just like him. I painted my '61 Plymouth Fury black and yellow stripes one day. I had a dream and that's what I did. I started with black in the middle of each door, the hood, roof, and trunk. Then I filled in between the black stripes with yellow. It looked like a big bumblebee. I painted "LOVE INN" on the rear end and filled the back seat with empty beer cans. Since I didn't rinse the beer cans and they smelled and drew bees. Funny how "beer" starts with "bee." Yep, Jim reminds me of another guy like me. People think I'm retarded but they're right.
I like Jim. He is an inventer. Just stop for a minute and consider : how did they start with an airplane? How did they make gun powder. They had a guy like Jim who tried.
I used to work for a guy years ago that had his own business here in the Uk that bought second hand ford transit vans from auctions.we used to prep them ,clean them up then the painter sprayed them with dulux household gloss paint .every one was painted white .and when they were done .they looked every inch as good as the paint ford put on and lasted longer .ford paint in the uk on vans is appalling .he then resold them back at the auctions.I did all the mechanical work on them if they needed that type of work.❤❤
It's cool to see in a video of this guy this host is up the road for my grandparents place in Woodville and he always had cool stuff going on I remember there being a couple motorcycles in the living room you can see them from the front window I live in Edmonton Alberta now brings back a lot of memories seeing that place
Jim cracked me up! 😂. I was a house painter for years and on cold days are humid days I wound add a little lacquer thinner to my oil based paint to help it dry. But if you are painting a ice cube it is probably going to take a while to dry! Jim should try using a heater.
I’ve painted houses and cars my entire life and it would drive me crazy to make logic out of Jim’s rambling. He’s just lost with a little bit of knowledge but I still would listen to him. The man works and try’s but that’s the main thing that makes me like and respect him.
Reminds me of the teenage days when I used to go to STANDARD BRANDS PAINTS.....and buy Yacht hull enamel. mix the blue and white oil base paint together and paint an old falcon, Chevy 2 or other car to get it ready to sell. Even did this with an old 58 and 9 chevy truck. Better than primer and made it look good to sell.
A man came into my dad's body shop one time wearing a raggedy old coat. His jacket had many long strings or perhanging you might say bits of cloth from the coat's lining hanging down in every direction. My dad had just finished painting a Ford and it looked like this fellow was going to get into the wet paint job at any moment. He was a talker, and he kept talking and all the time, and he seemed to get closer to the wet paint job at every exaggerated move he made. My dad took this as long as he could and finally decided he had to say something to the fellow, so he said, "That's fresh paint on that Ford there, so be careful. "Oh it won't hurt this old coat," the guy said.
I love it when you guys visit Jim it’s good to see Chad and him laughing. Gotta have a little fun time every once in a while keep up the good work and don’t change the show. 42:13
You just gotta love it when they go visit with Jim to see how his project is going. Chad and Jolene are awesome going over to see how the project is moving along.
It's great to see that Jim is having fun working on his oldsmobile Chad and jolene if he keeps going the way he is it'll be a nice car to keep instead of driving it around the fields. Keep up the great work all of you 👍 👏
Jim hello 👋 how ya been ? Nice to see old Jim and what's he's up to . Now he's painting a car with house paint ? Keep it simple and within your budget . That's going to be awesome if you can make it work . Thumbs-up Jimbo 👍 Jolene and Chad are great friends of yours !
I bet this Oldsmobile's factory blue used to be lighter. Jim's lucky i dont live a lot closer. I bring him some cars to paint this winter. And I'd probably try to talk Jim into sellin the Oldsmobile to me. Lol It might be a few months before that paint dries at those temps. Even at 45-50F it takes days...been there done that. 🙄 Oh and Ive seen some crazy cheap paint jobs! Textured rollers, and latex house paint, the water-base stuff. Ive seen people throw steal dust onto tacky paint to create fake rust. It takes a while patina, vinegar speeds it up. lol
Thank you. Jim reminds me of a mentor of mine. Everything is organized chaos but it works out in the end. Tricks, tips and life wisdom sprinkled in and mixed up.
It's good to see people enjoying each other's company you got a friendship in each other that's a wonderful thing thank you for sharing with me please continue

I admire how respectful you are to other peoples way of doing things.

I always have a good laugh when you go see Jimbo. Nothing seems to bother him no matter what he does. I’m sure he is a great friend.

These two are hoot. If your having a bad day just watch a Jim and Chad episode you can’t help but smile.

Bright white and bright blue would look amazing

Thanks for the Entertainment 👍👍👍
"Ohhh expensive stuff, we dont wanna use that." 😂😂
Very entertaining to watch these builders .house paint 😮
Alkyd enamel works well with reducer and hardener, I've even mixed in cheap thin clear instead of reducer and it worked like a cheap single stage.
I think that's what the guy from my town uses but he pronounced it wrong alkaloid
Sounds good good days to U great peoples
Probably the funniest episode I've seen 😂
You gotta love Jimbo !!! Soo awsome
Jimbo, thanks for sharing
Interesting painting in that cold garage
You just gotta love it when they go visit with Jim to see how his project is going. Chad and Jolene are awesome going over to see how the project is moving along.
Jim is legend! My new found hero!🤘😁
What ever works Sir Jim well done
Lovely to see Jim, perhaps not quite on a par with Chad, the main thing is, he`s happy, tinkering with his motors.
Always a hoot when Jim is on camera.... enjoy watching... Thanks for sharing Jolene..👍🇨🇦
It's great to see that Jim is having fun working on his oldsmobile Chad and jolene if he keeps going the way he is it'll be a nice car to keep instead of driving it around the fields. Keep up the great work all of you 👍 👏
Love Jim’s philosophy re: the system..best reality car show for classic car guys..absolute gem 🙌
