Been a automotive painter for a while, and only painted a whole vehicle twice, a couple of decades ago. Watching you mix, the smells fill my head. Compliments on your economics. Why do those mixing cup cost a small fortune? Stripping down an 80 Pace Car because all those decal checked. Thanks for the refresher course.
At 72 I may never build another car, but the information Chad has provided is locked in my memory while I still live and share. Thanks Chad, great explanation of color prep.!
age doesn't mean anything , you could be here for another 20-30 years now is the best time to get a project and work on it over a few years . maybe teach the kids/ grandkids about stuff if you have any. if not then get some old buddies over and have a beer with them and have fun messing about with the car/ truck. life should never be a bore
@@SamFBM i’m 74 and am working on mu last custom; all done by me. The idle mind thought up another one and I went to the Junior College offering to bankroll the new idea. They agreed and now I spend hours a week supervising work on “my” “last” car. Hmmm, I wonder what a full tilt boogie off road 4WD Subue topless AMC Pacer would look like? 🤪🧛♂️🤨
Thanks Guys....I wish I could have watched You when I was younger....Your show is very informative and Your ideas are out of the box and You spell it out the way it is....if You know what I'm sayin
hello there i have been watching for a long time chad you have been a great teacher because of you im am now learning to mig weld when i learn to weld good im going to fix my holes in my ride and just wount you to know what a great person you are and thank you Jolene for showing us
Thank You Chad for another tutorial; especially from us without as much experience. Thank You both for braving the fumes and Jolene for your production expertise.
I painted my 57 Chevy pickup in my garage using a similar method and same spray gun and had never painted a vehicle in my life. Turned out pretty damn good and saved me $5000 12 years ago !
The freedom of your expression and the style of your videos are above all and outstanding and truly interesting I find your videos Artful and enlightening I just wanted to let you know that and keep on Believing in yourselves and keeping free to be yourself and overall have a wonderful day
Thanks C&J for another really good episode. I, for one, know how much work you’re putting in, and am both impressed and grateful as usual. It’s entertaining and educational stuff. Always enjoy your work.
Both of you are my fav on youtube. I know the hard work in doing all you do. Also the work that goes into social media to make everything work. You both are the best ! :)
Thanks for the share. It is very helpful to see the whole process end to end without skipping through the longer steps. It is helpful to see just how long you actually spent with the DA sander for instance. Thanks
I have always promotes disassembly for painting a color change so that all the channels and jambs are consistent. For color flash paints I reassemble for the final color and coats for best uniform flash across the length and width of the car. Then arduously polish the cambs and channels.
Hi thank you for th video. Very informative. I bought a 1973 Opel gt with it spray painted with rhino truck liner. I'm very slowly taking off all of it with a grinder but I thought rustoleum would keep it from rusting while continuing to remove the rest of the liner. It didn't so I'll need to get off all the rust and use normal primer then strip it all off again after all the liner is off so I could properly epoxy primer the car. I wish there is another way but atleast you showed me a way to primer and paint without sanding. Thank you.
Love the content and the presentation, your a straight up guy. I appreciate you having your shirt tucked in with your jeans falling off like that. Also looks like you been working out and it is working for you. Keep up the good work.
Good call on the epoxy. Exactly what I would do. Will cut it with 1200 grit before I paint to take off any nibs. And you're right about the epoxy piece rusting before the primed piece. Keep it going. Stevo J
I think he misspoke on the epoxy part? If the metal is prepped properly, ain’t no way it will rust quicker than a primed piece. Epoxy is a sealer. Primer isn’t
A great help watching this video. Question... I sprayed Nason 2k epoxy primer on a tank and it came out looking like a raptor paint job. Very grainy. I tried different guns , different gun pressures and all came out the same. Only difference to your mixing was I added thinners at recommended quantity. Any suggestions ?
I started using colored sealers for right before base coat. Red oxide under red, green under green, ect. I get better results that way. I really like the House Of Kolor KD3000 series hybrid epoxy surfacer/sealer. Have had best luck with it, available in multiple colors
This channel is underrated, I have learned alot just from watching 2 of your videos so far, new sub here, getting ready for a summer project with in the next week, your knowledge will help me along, you have answered questions I would have asked otherwise but have covered them thank you!!
Chad thanks for all your knowledge, I've been watching the channel well over 4-5yrs and you never disappoint, I've watched every episode every day all the way in the West Indies 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
I like the video. It's a shame you weren't able to show the Epoxy V 2K Urethane Primer. In ships/boats/offshore rigs Etc. Epoxy primers are used as barrier coats because they block moisture due to their molecular structure. Rust needs Oxygen and Moisture. Are automotive epoxies somehow different?
Thanks for sharing your experience. Is an epoxy sealer just adding more reducer to epoxy primer? I would think you would have to stick with compatible products or is that sealer you use compatible with all materials/paint? Enjoyed it
Nice work Brad! And especially J on the camera! Wonder if you could include some comments on the spray gun tip size you are using ! The pattern on this job looks wide! I have had some issues with G2 primer as it is very thick and the spray pattern is pretty narrow! Had me scratching my head but watchin you get her done helped! You do great work and the fact that you share your work has got to be a Maratime thing! Thx !
I believe those guns are 1.3. Spray at a higher pressure and widen the fan to reduce orange peel. If needed lower the amount of material. For use as a sealer most manufacturers suggest reducing the sealer before spraying.
If it's got light and dark areas in the paint it means the painter is blind and don't put enough base color on it. You paint to coverage period. I don't disagree with putting on a sealer coat but it is for covering area you sanded through. Some colors are very transparent so if it takes 10 coats to get coverage that is what it takes. The problem with sealer is that you may not have light and dark spots but you may not have the true color because you didn't paint till coverage. You need to put check hiding squares on the car or do a proper spray out cars to tell you how many coats of paint you need to achieve complete coverage.
chad i was scared of this job when i first saw the fiero's condition-peeling clearcoat, chalky paint, etc. but you are turning it into what should be a very good looking paint job.
Absolutely enjoyed. Thanks again for your way of doing and explaining what your doing. Also just saw where Jolene hurt her back. Please don't hurry the healing. Reruns will be great.
I miss your show. I didn't care for some of the cars you made, but i did care for your ability and knowledge!knowledge. The way you Loved your Son, was cool! You tested him, corrected him,,,, but you clearly Loved him!
chad, a few weeks ago you mentioned the tip to strip paint with a wheel on a drill. thats been an awesome tip. ive always used wire wheels, but that stripper wheel makes rust removal a breeze.
I had an old 356 Porsche that was painted yellow. At certain angles in the sun you could see red showing thru the yellow. It was just like a haze but it was there. Could never understand why, but thanks to you now I know. Bill
Would you mind explaining the difference between primer and sealer? And do you always have to use both of them on every job if you could give a couple examples please. Keep up the good work!
"The epoxy piece would rust way faster than the primer piece" what? The epoxy acts as a sealer, whereas primer is porous. I thought the whole point of using epoxy was to seal and block water from going through it
Chad and jolene by using the epoxy sealer will that stabilise the paint underneath and help to stop it lifting off and cracking. Keep up the great work the both of you 👍 👏
Another episode I quite enjoyed..well I enjoy them all actually...haaaa...goin to be a beauty of a fiero..thanks to you both for the episode...cya tomorrow
What a great episode you make. Love seeing you do some paintwork. What size of nozzle do you use in the paint gun ? Do you still painting it at high pressure ? How high is the pressure ?
Usually, you want to use the same size tip for sealer as you do for base coat. You want it as flat as possible. Also, don't use the in gun strainer. Use quality strainers as you fill the cup.
Jolene please replace those respirator filters lost my uncle early because of dirty respirators in his own body shop we want to watch you two for years to come paint these day can eat lungs up
Yep,that's how I get rid of my left over basecoats, if car is going to be silver,I'll use my left over silver base as a ground coat, but sealer is best cause it fills tiny sand scratches.
Wet on wet bonds like the dickens. Nason doesn't have as much pigment in it which is why it is a must for an even color base PRIOR to any color. I have shot the same color in NASON and in CHROMA PREMIER and the coverage with one coat is WAY better with Chroma Premier.
If applied correctly, it won't. Well... at least a good epoxy. Nason is not the highest grade paint but not bad either, I dont use it but I imagine their epoxy is decent with probably less crosslinking than better products. If you put it over rust with moisture trapped it might accelerate the rusting but who does that? I have scraps sealed both sides over bare metal that have been outside weather in a salty coastal area for two years. Other than losing some shine it looks fine.
in the industrial paint trade you get lots of different epoxy, I painted tons epoxy sinc, american brand if my memory is correct. Used on oil rigs. Would think the same products would work great on a car too. The sinc epoxy, we normally had a layer tiecoat between
I just have one question you said that Pontiac fiero had the plastic bumpers and fenders and you still and you use the epoxy sealer on those panels correct

Chad your helpful hints are great,I've been painting cars since I was 16 now I'm 58 still Learning alot with an open mind...keep up.the good work guys
This series is providing great instructional content. Thanks Chad and Jolene!

So satisfying. Love watching and learning. Thanks for the hard work you two

Thanks for the tutorials on painting a car. The digital taping is great!
Nice explanation of epoxy sealer. I suspect it also allows epoxy flexibility just as the base surface.
I started using colored sealers for right before base coat. Red oxide under red, green under green, ect. I get better results that way. I really like the House Of Kolor KD3000 series hybrid epoxy surfacer/sealer. Have had best luck with it, available in multiple colors

Do to real estate of marine substrates, using airless pumps and 5gal. Kits.Marine coatings are not cheap
Thanks for another lesson guys. Can't wait to see this little rocket in colour 👌👍
You explain things nicely
Thanks for the tip on value shading
Lots to learn hear. Experience can trump book sense a lot of the time. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I've been using the epoxy sealer wrong all along. Thanks for the education Chad! You do awesome work.
I love your builds but, it really is cool to see you prepare and paint a normal-ish, vehicle. Luv y’all!!!

It takes talent and experience to mix and shoot Epoxy primer/sealer and not get orange peel effect. Good job Chad, Jolene and Fina
No it doesn’t, mix it how it’s suppose to be mixed and add 10% urethane grade reducer to it. Super smooth and soft no peel
Absolutely enjoyed. Thanks again for your way of doing and explaining what your doing. Also just saw where Jolene hurt her back. Please don't hurry the healing. Reruns will be great.
I paint boats so I love your videos, all of my paint jobs we use 545 epoxy primer. Great stuff!
Very nice and fast nice work 👍👍
Thanks again for a painting lesson.
its the best stuff great adhesion for base and barrier to old paint
Love y’all’s content. I’m always ready for a Bad Chad video after a long day at work. So thank you for your effort in putting these videos out.

Thank you . real time and real life. For me being a amateur this is excellent
chad, a few weeks ago you mentioned the tip to strip paint with a wheel on a drill. thats been an awesome tip. ive always used wire wheels, but that stripper wheel makes rust removal a breeze.
Well that was very informative thanks 👍
Glad to see it finally get done
Thanks for a great video. You answered my question already saying non-sanding sealer. I like it and it works.
Moor great advice to be used thank u I got a couple paint jobs cumin so I will try some of your techniques thanks Chad
If want a paint job that looks like gravel after you're done painting this is the way to do it
I use that same epoxy primer, FYI it’s actually 2:1. Can get the tds online. Also can add 10% reducer when using as a sealer
Love the way u wipe ur cans and bottles of paint products.
Great content and instructions. Ready to see the red go on to get a good visual of the car. Chad and Jolene keep doing what you do.
Your prep/ paint videos are great!
Love the Windex prewash idea 💡
I had an old 356 Porsche that was painted yellow. At certain angles in the sun you could see red showing thru the yellow. It was just like a haze but it was there. Could never understand why, but thanks to you now I know. Bill

He makes a fun video, but hes wrong about the epoxy.
He obviously misspoke
Great as always, learned a bit today.
I love watching Chad paint he makes it look so easy.
Epoxy primer is just smart. The trunk slammer turned master car painters can sod off
Great job thanks for sharing
Looks great already Chad. Looking forward to seeing the colour when painted. You and Jolene have a good one as well. Cheers from OZ. Chris. 🙃🦘
Nice to see paint going on this car 👍
Can't wait to see it finished 🤠
Chad and jolene by using the epoxy sealer will that stabilise the paint underneath and help to stop it lifting off and cracking. Keep up the great work the both of you 👍 👏
Another episode I quite enjoyed..well I enjoy them all actually...haaaa...goin to be a beauty of a fiero..thanks to you both for the episode...cya tomorrow
Thanks Chad and Jolene for this.
Nise work 👍
Howdy and thanks for taking us through the process
What a great episode you make.
Love seeing you do some paintwork.
What size of nozzle do you use in the paint gun ?
Do you still painting it at high pressure ?
How high is the pressure ?
I would use a 1.6 i didnt see filter used in the pot.
Usually, you want to use the same size tip for sealer as you do for base coat. You want it as flat as possible. Also, don't use the in gun strainer. Use quality strainers as you fill the cup.
Keep the great work going chad
Ya got this Chad good understanding and easy to get thks for sharing Jolene good video work and sound quality 👌 awesome 👌
Jolene please replace those respirator filters lost my uncle early because of dirty respirators in his own body shop we want to watch you two for years to come paint these day can eat lungs up
Great job Jolene
He lays a coat of primer before breakfast, and then saves the Timmies cups for thinner. Chad is a man to git er done!
bravo 👍👍😉😉💪💪💪
I been doing auto body & paint work
I always do the same method !!!
👌👌👌
Sure, Jolene's looking amazing, but we don't get to see her! You truly are blessed!
It's going to be bright red and shiny any day now!
Another great video thanks guys
Yep,that's how I get rid of my left over basecoats, if car is going to be silver,I'll use my left over silver base as a ground coat, but sealer is best cause it fills tiny sand scratches.
Another day and another great lesson Chad. Jolene is making great videos!
Great to see you doing it your way, though more personal safely equipment should be a part of your next purchase.
Sweet looking forward to seeing the colour go on 🇦🇺🤝🇺🇸😎👍
Always very interesting content.
Great job guys. 😎👍
Greetings from Switzerland
Great video as always Brother! 👍
Wet on wet bonds like the dickens. Nason doesn't have as much pigment in it which is why it is a must for an even color base PRIOR to any color.
I have shot the same color in NASON and in CHROMA PREMIER and the coverage with one coat is WAY better with Chroma Premier.
Plus red is the worst.
it looks good in primer
Thank you and the Fiero will be amazing as you say. Looking forward to it. Take care and peace out
Congrats on 160K subs ! Well earned.
Painting starts 14:44
Had to hang around to the end. Thought for sure someone would get bit from that metal sheet in the door way.
That windex is good stuff.
Oh here we go with epoxy controversy.. Now how would epoxy rust before a standard primer? Epoxy has zinc in it.. you must be using some good primer.
The sinc epoxy, we normally had a layer tiecoat between
Looking better every day.
Another great video Bad Chad.
great job you two
I just have one question you said that Pontiac fiero had the plastic bumpers and fenders and you still and you use the epoxy sealer on those panels correct
Ihave learned so much from Chad and Jolene
So prime all bare metal first before using the sealer ? Enjoy your vids guys , makes the average fella want to have a go
Epoxy primer is actually a great first coat on metal and in fact that is how it is mostly used including professional restoration shops.
epoxy on bare metal is the best start
