I have no need for a BMPCC, but I can’t stop watching videos about them. I love this.
Don’t do it, Tom.
too funny. i think BMPCC is paying these people. That rig is so rigged out that it makes me want to hire that guy just to see if he can actually shoot for 10 minutes handheld with it.
@@DigitalProductionGroup I rigged out mine just the same and added an Easyrig. Can shoot handheld for hours. 🙏🏾 Great combo.
@@DigitalProductionGroup more weight is better for smooth footage, although you get to the point where shoulder mounting is a better idea
Yes it makes one feel like using it 😂
This is probably one of the best camera rigs I have come across on RUclips. So well thought out 🙌
Great build-out! Love the detail you put into this video. (One thing I'd recommend is that if you're going to use a 21:9 aspect ratio for a video, go ahead and make your timeline & export that same ratio so that when someone with an ultrawide monitor can watch the video without black bars on the top, bottom, and sides.) Again, love the video, just my 2 cents on the export settings. 👍🏼
Thanks man! I actually export this way for a specific reason. The vast majority of my viewers are on mobile so I export the video in 2:1 to fill the screen as much as possible. I then add bars because on mobile, native 21:9 gets cut off on a lot of phones (like the iPhone). I’ve gone back and forth over whether to go native or bars, but settled on this for now. But anything not meant for YT is always native.
@@mattgonzalez 🤙🏽
The weak link in a rig like can be the D-Tap splitter. If you're building one, make sure you get a good quality splitter. Everything receiving power from the V-mount depends on it and if the splitter dies, you'll be attaching individual batteries to everything again. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
My batteries have 3 D-tap outputs. It is a litle bit difficult to find but there some brands that do it.
Yup. The BMPC cameras’ 4K 6K and 6K Pro are unreal cameras. I think they are leading the game right now for the price. It truly is amazing what black magic created.
for the price maybe, but what else are they offering apart from the sensor? shitty battery life, fixed screen, no full frame, no af, questionable, output (1080?), etc
@@petrub27 why tf would u look for autofocus in a cinema camera
@@jeff-dk4tz because you can use it for other productions as well, is not like all you do is cinema. do you? doubt it
@@petrub27 yeah and i doubt you'd use an arri for a wedding gig. use the right equipment for the right setting
Aside from great colors and Braw, I think BM cameras are an absolute disaster and a remarkable half ass. Just look at what this dude had to build on top of it in order to make the thing even work. I am returning my BM4k for a Fuji XT4 actually. Absence of C-AF and OIS is ridiculous. Fuji is a complete camera for slightly more money, while BM is a half ass that you will need to build into 5 kilogram rig in order to be able to shoot with it.
Great rig and video man! Love how you've built your camera out.
Interested to hear how you cable manage all of those cables. Looks super clean in the video!
Thanks man! I basically just used hook and loop straps haha. pretty simple.
Het Matt, there's a super easy way to mount the Mars 400s into the back of the V-Mount plate without having to use velcro. You can buy the small rig quick release made specifically for the Mars 400s and mount it into 1/4 thread. I can paste the link if you interested.
The way this video was edited has lowkey gave me a new standard to my videos 😂 that I want to achieve
Thank you!!
@@obulorolisa mine? I have videos on my channel lol
I wish I had seen your rig prior to building mine out. That handle with focus control looks sweet. Love your video and your style.
I keep coming back to your video and finally made the decision to go this route with my BMPCC6K. Thank you for sharing with us, Matt!
Thank you so much for this video....Ive watched soooooo many BMPCC 6K pro videos and no one did a gear/kit/rigged video of the camera...Ive waited for a video like this for awhile now and you provided us with it..This is very well needed and you gotta new subscriber now...excellent content
That rig is beast! Love that 6K sensor. Just got the 6K Pro in as a b-cam to my URSA G2.
How's that working out for you? Are they pretty easy to match? I have a 6K, and have kicked around the idea of picking up the G2 but honestly aside from the ND and some of the IO it's a bit hard to see the value of the G2 vs the 6K...especially since now the 6K has an ND filter onboard and 2 XLR preamps. Am I missing something...like, does the G2 destroy the 6K for dynamic range?
@@loudandclearmedia they match great. G2 doesn’t destroy the 6K in dynamic range by any means. Full size xlr ports, sdi, form factor, framerates, and more prores options (handy if that’s what client wants) are a couple reasons why I love the g2 over the pocket pro. I haven’t had the chance to test the audio side by side, but in my experience, the g2 pre’s have been much cleaner than the previous pocket cams.
@@TylerEdwards In terms of image quality, did you notice any difference between the 6k and G2? And did you also notice difference between dynamic range?

I built a very similar rig for my bmpcc4k and I've been enjoying filming with it. The only thing I'm missing are the more dynamic/cinematic ronin shots.
Rig setup is sweet. Used it as inspiration for my R5 rig I’m building right now. Just curious, what camera did you use to shoot this video?
Such an AWESOME rig! And an incredible video! Well done!
Dude! That's so sick. It's like a dream rig....
Finally somebody that says I don't need to upgrade 👍🙂

your rig is dope, but the lighting/comp of your talking head portion is *chef's kiss*
I get it if you’ve owned a bmpcc 6k for a while. But if you’re choosing between the 6k and 6k pro. You definitely save money with the 6k pro. A good mattbox with a set of 4x4 ND’s will eaaaasily run 6/700 which is insane! I bought a mattbox and was looking to ND’s and just buying a single ND second hand was going to run over 100$!!
Internal- way quicker and cheaper.
Plus!! Option viewfinder with the pro.
I'm picking this camera up in a couple weeks. Seeing your rig makes me even more excited. I currently shoot on a Sony FS5 MKII.

2024 and this is still the best rig I've cam across on youtube.
The real question is what did you shoot this video on?
Pocket 6K for Aroll and Canon R6 for broll
@@mattgonzalez So beautiful my friend.
Nice video, Matt! I saw Caleb Pike's version of his "ultimate Pocket 4k rig" first, but this is also a very good showcase of creative problem-solving. Well done!
Loving this rig. Well done! I also went the “tall” route and am looking to go long. Thanks my friend.
I don't often comment, but this was a solid video...loved the pacing, tight shots/b-roll, everything. Nice job man.
A fellow 6K and 24-105 shooter! We have very similar rigs. I may have to give that tilting battery plate a try!

I came here to look at your rig, but you also answered my question "does the canon lens stabilization works on bmpcc6k pro". I searched everywhere, but I didn't find the answer. So thank you a lot
Excellent video. The follow focus you’re using addresses my biggest challenge with my 6K. Thank you!
Hands down the most intelligent and beautiful bmpcc6k rig I’ve ever seen! Definitely my dream rig. Great video! Instant sub.

Excellent job Matt! U just topped every other video in competition with this camera! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Best review and awesome rig Matt!
I bought my BMPCC 6k also as a temporary video camera (while waiting for A7S3 or R5). And I wouldn't change it for any of them. I got my 6k for more than a year now, and it's not going anywhere. Amazing camera, although you need at least battery plate to fight the run time on internal one. I would get Basecamp some day ;).
do a video on the bmpcc 6k pro now and rig it up! IM WAITING!!
I like your exposures, Matt.
Love how you've maintained the pocketability 😜
That tiltable handle is dope.
Nice rig bro!! I love the blackmagic platform. I spent over$14K rigging my 4K out now I want the 6K pro. Thanks for sharing!!
Whoa! I'd love to know what you rig is made up of.
Really dig your lighting!

Sweet setup
I noticed at 7:22 one your your d-tap cables presses against the camera screen
Cool thing about d-tap is it can be adjusted to go in either direction
So if you take apart that d-tap connector you can move the cable to go out the other side
Awesome video, great tips, might look at that follow focus unit! Your rig is fantastic!
Excellent setup, sir.
I might go for it, since I'm going for 6k Pro soon and need the rig, less for handheld, more for tripod, but this covers everything basically and with the detachable side handle with the focus, it's perfect!
Great setup and info... thanks!
Loved the video brother and I see that Jon's story telling way of speaking and presenting has rubbed off on you too, hehe nice one!

This vidéo is a great Lego GamePlay ! Perhaps you can also speed about price, even if that's just an approximate pricing. It help us understand what is affordable for us when we don't have so much money
The 6k's mount is it's biggest limiting factor. That's why i'm sticking with the 4k for now. Imagine the 6k with an m43 sensor and mount! THAT would be epic.
Cool image! 02:37
Love how tight this rig is! Hoping to get mine close!
This rig is sick! What was the total cost including the easy rig? Def want to setup something similar and use your links
This is sooo clean.
One of the best rigs I've seen and love the look of your video. Great job man.
Do you have a video on how to put that rig together from the exact parts you’re using? I’m thinking of getting the BMPCC 6K Pro and love the setup you have. I’ve never put a rig together so having a video would be very helpful. Thanks.
I am just really happy with it. :)
The 6k Pro is a realy good camera. the inside nd filters are great. If you have a 6k its not worth to upgrade but if you dont have a cinematic cam the pro is a very good choice.
So why you actually went with d-tap to 2-pin power cable instead of d-tap to dummy Battery? Isn’t second option a little bit better when it comes to portability? You don’t have this cable sticking left outside, instead it is somewhere below where you wouldn’t separate it accidentally. ( It just my thoughts- i even still don’t own this camera, but plans it to buy, and want figure it out, how to rig it) Thanks
Hey, fantastic vid. Wanted to ask -- with more than a year since you posted does it all still ring true, still you're go-to rig set-up? Any changes you'd make with a year more filming under you? Also, any sample footage from this rig that we could check out on your page?

How do you power the side handle?? Dummy battery that goes into the v mount splitter??? Or do you use a f970 sony battery? Great video, super useful!!!
Great video! Love the rig! 👍🏽
Have you experienced your HDMI port frying when running both your external monitor and camera off the V-mount?
2003 called and they want their hard baked black bars back!
Great Rig that, really like your choices there nice work 👍🏼
BTW add a portkeys monitor BM5 IIIwr 5 inch or soon their 7 inch BM7Wr those let you do bluetooth camera control of almost all main functions
Love the video man. How are you using that hot shoe monitor mount when there's a 1/4 hole on the front of the tilta top handle? Really interested as I'm wanting to do the same as you man.
Yo dude, I don't understsand how you attached that monitor mount. The cage clearly has the screw but also 2 VERTICAL arri locating pins? this is kind of messing with me since you can not attach any thing in that way?
Thanks for your video !
