I find it interesting that "getting into the red ecosystem" was a positive for you. It just seems like a terribly cumbersome, expensive and restrictive ecosystem to WANT to get buried in.
If you like their products a lot, the ecosystem makes the decision on accessories, and media for you, which can be easier on some filmmakers. I'm with you though, not a plus for me. Same problem with the RF mount, "Insanely sharp" is great, but none of my lenses are RF mount and my clients won't be able to tell the difference. Price Tags are ridiculously high too
@@johnduplantier5206 best thing canon did was make the ef to RF adapter WITH ND slot. So good, but it wasn't enough to keep me in that ecosystem either. L mount consortium keeps me humming. So open ended, lots of 3rd party and first party support on multiple systems
@@Triforcefilms I love the third party support for L Mount too, even if E Mount dominates most lens design it is nice to see a mount and lens system that's so flexible and well used by manufacturers. You sound like the type to pass on a Red Monstro 8k/Arri if you had a chance. They're "cumbersome" for a reason (setting up better more planned shots, black shading, etc).Because these are real world production level cameras (komodo just being an entry) so that just means your goal isn't to shoot true movie style videos or true film. Which is okay because then a Red/Arri is not for you.
I have two 6ks and for interviews I get both angles at once. I get 4 angles from two cameras shooting 6k for 4k editing, two medium and two closeups depending on cropping or not. Bigger projects I can even have a production camera and the 2nd for bts or for backup or one on a tripod rigged out and one on a gimbal. That's a lot of production for less than the Red.

For what it's worth, the Z CAM E2 S6G is also a global shutter camera at the same price as the Komodo -- plus it has interchangeable lens mounts, like active locking EF and PL, even locking MFT which is great for the MFT-mount Vazen 1.8x lenses that cover a super35 sensor.
@@zacharykepler3567 The S6G is just a specialty camera in their E2 flagship line. It has the same body as the E2 M4, S6, F6 and F8. Many Z CAM owners have multiple bodies. So basically you can share parts, including the interchangeable lens mounts like I mentioned. Plus, the price is "high" because the S6G uses a true global shutter sensor. The Komodo was originally rolling shutter only until they added a "global shutter mode" in the test units which you could switch between. Now global shutter mode is just the baked-in default. Even though it's a "mode" I must admit the Komodo behaves just like a true global shutter. An example of this tech is the CIS 2051 sensor which allows switching between rolling and global: andor.oxinst.com/learning/view/article/rolling-and-global-shutter
@@katlis Thanks for the link. I read the article in the link. It claims to be a true global shutter. The only difference is that it is CMOS pretending to be CCD. The only advantage I see to using rolling shutter mode would be for faster exposures but global shutter mode should be fast enough for video.
@@robertm3951 For sure, that particular sensor in the article I shared (that is not used in the Komodo) is stellar. But as it says "the read noise in global shutter mode (~2.5 e-) is approximately double that of rolling shutter (~ 1.2 e-)." Further info on 'read noise' by Adimec Advanced Image Systems explains it nicely: "Read noise basically determines the contrast resolution that the camera is able to achieve. The lower the read noise level, the lower the minimum number of signal electrons that can be detected. A lower read noise means you can see smaller changes in signal amplitude, thus detect details with smaller contrast differences. Read noise is also important in combination with expressing the sensitivity of a camera." At the end of the day, these cameras are quite identical in perceivable performance though.
Global Shutter and Ergo is really the main reasons to want a Komodo. Otherwise...the color science, image quality, red raw vs braw and everything else is subjective...factor in the lack of internal NDs, it's hard to justify the price difference between the Komodo and the p6k (which is a huge difference lol). 6k pro's biggest weakness is perhaps the rolling shutter and awkward body size, so in my eyes, it's really as simple as is the global shutter and ergos worth the massive difference in price?
Nothing is better than old school film cameras, they give life to the image. Nowadays digital cameras cant get even close. Digital is sharp, clean image but its dead in terms of magic of cinematography imaginary... even after post... still looking flat and dead. Also I think your settings was not set up properly to this comparison. I never saw Red Komodo result coming out so badly. And finally good looking cinematic result is not based on camera it self, its more about lightning the scene. Great result can be archived with any camera if you know basics of light.
Are RED files much larger than BRAW? Looking to get a second camera to my 6K and am looking at the Komodo as I like the form factor and basic autofocus as well as dynamic range. Massive files might be a dealbreaker though
When the RED Komodo came out i was excited, because it was the entry level big time move making camera, it is a legend. Building a basic rig would take me to around 9k and that s a bummer! I decided to go with the 6K pro and i m excited. The camera is so fast to grab and use, has intuitive menus, and mind-blowing picture which you have t see for yourself to believe and all that for a fraction of the price. Its no RED, but its a beast of a camera, which might be my B camera at some point when i might need a bigger production camera. Maybe a RED or even an ARRI! who knows! Content creation and creativity is what we have to work on and you can do this with a 6k pro for many years to come i think. Nice vid!

I am also in post for a short that I directed that was shot on a Red and the images we captured are amazing. Two very different scenarios! Two great solutions in the BMPCC 6k and the Red.
Question for experts: In komodo 16 stops dynamic range, and bmpcc 6k pro 13 stops, is there a big difference during shooting? Also about the raw files? Is there a difference worth this amount of money between the two cameras?
13:46 : "it's going to motivate you to want to get out and create more because you have the camera you really want" is the equivalent of saying "let's have a baby to save our marriage"... folks, please hear me on this one: if you're not motivated to get out and create with what you already have, believe me when I say that that won't change just because you have a camera you love. Trust me, I own an old RED EPIC M-X that I bought used way back in 2016, and I love it to death, and I'm still holding on to it as it rapidly depreciates to what will eventually be zero, but I can confidently tell you that buying into the sex appeal of RED won't save your desire to make or not make videos. I'm honestly surprised the pros of buying the Komodo didn't include the global shutter, and instead included "cuz I want one"...
Great video!! I have a Komodo and the fact that I have a RED on a ronin s2 is crazy. My clients are obsessed with how small and versatile I am. The global shutter for the win! Honestly, the footage is almost better than my RED Scarlet Weapon. I also just use my phone as a secondary monitor.
Damn man, you did a very good job of laying out everything according to the facts. Thank you for this. I have a Canon R7, I bought it to shoot videos on RUclips. This is my first camera and it's great. But I tried to shoot chromakey with it, and realized that I didn’t have enough colors. Unfortunately, at the time of purchasing the Canon R7, I did not have the budget for BlackMagic or, especially, Red Komodo. As a result, the videos are not filmed, my Canon R7 just lies on my table. And yes, I’m not a cinematographer, I’m a visual effects supervisor. However, this camera helped me film several backstage scenes of my songs in the recording studio. They really didn’t go anywhere, but it doesn’t matter. And now I want to buy a blackmagic 6k g2, because it can record rav videos in very high quality. This is useful for chromakey. 12 bit color is better than 10 bit Canon R7. Why do I need Blackmagic? As I said, I decided to make a short film. But since I don’t have money for my idea and I am a visual FX supervisor, I can make a short film in 3D. Film yourself using chromakey and insert it into a 3D environment. I generally have light, but the camera... I think BlackMagic is just right for my task. And yes, I’m shooting a short film to show my skill in special effects (which can serve as a portfolio and accordingly help me increase the price of my services) and as an interesting move as a musician. and yes, I am a musician (artist). Thanks for the video man, you helped curb my thirst for a cooler camera (which I don't really need that much). By the way, yes, I don’t consider renting a camera, because I, like you, like to spend several hours to ensure that the shot is shot the way I want (ideal). Once again, thanks for the video!
Hi Brandon , thanks a lot very objective !! So , with my Panasonic Super35mm S1H’s ecosysteem should i take a R Komodo beside for the fast captions according to her super “ Global schutter”..? Both écosystems should match in Raw Rec..
Here’s the thing... As a film student, I’ve shot on both bigger RED’s and the BMPCC 4K, and I’d probably rig both the Komodo and BMPCC 6K up - I enjoy the time spent on setting up the camera and making the perfect shot, and with experience you learn to do it quicker as well. The global shutter is almost a must for me, but as a film student who wants to slip my foot into the industry, the BMPCC 6K is the only thing a person like me can dream about getting started with, as few students have the money to buy and rig up he Komodo.
Great video ! But some considerations... first, if you don’t put the same preparation for the p6k pro it is obvious that you are not going to get the same pleasing look on your shots, that bias to me, and at the end of the day the new Gen5 using Resolve and knowing how to color grade correctly WILL give you the same if not a better resulta than the Komo. Second, the reason: IF YOU WANT ONE, I bet that if BM sold the p6k pro for us5.500 everybody would WANT ONE too. Other than that, very sincere approach you give, that’s appreciated. If I could afford the RED$ I would still get the p6k pro, I love this crazy bright Aussies and their philosophy !! Cheers!
Lmao no ones going to buy the Bmpcc 6K pro at $5500 🤣 their build quality and lifespan isn’t at the same level as most other manufacturers, the price point is what sells their pocket line
From my experience, RED RAW is far better out of the camera. BRAW takes some work to get it looking the same. RED gives me a better idea of what the final product will look like while shooting. Redcode RAW also has more metadata so more can be changed. Komodo also has a greater dynamic range and a larger color gamut. That being said, the 6K Pro is more than good enough for most jobs and punches well above its weight.
I heard that there is a monitor that can control KOMODO wirelessly. It seems to be specially made for KOMODO. Does anyone know? Its brand seems to be called PORTKEYS, and its model seems to be BM5 WR. If you have used it, please introduce it. How does it feel to use it with KOMODO? I want to buy one and try it recently, thank you!

An example of this tech is the CIS 2051 sensor which allows switching between rolling and global: andor.oxinst.com/learning/view/article/rolling-and-global-shutter
@@zacharykepler3567The Z Cam has higher framerates.
This message exceeds its video title. Brandon nailed it on 'being on the fence'.
The message of stopping the search for the perfect camera is also gold
This video was so good man. Really helped me decide. Definitely gonna go with black magic over red on this one.
hello, where did you get the side handle on the left side of the Komodo ?
Great video Brandon, lots of good information. Lots to consider. Cheers.
6k pro's biggest weakness is perhaps the rolling shutter and awkward body size, so in my eyes, it's really as simple as is the global shutter and ergos worth the massive difference in price?
can we watch the projects you used as example footage in full ?
Massive files might be a dealbreaker though
great video bruh. this really answered a lot of my questions. Cheers!
the best video so far !nice comparison ! thank you for your perspectives and explanations!
Such a great video! It's like you've read my mind!
Hey Brandon, love the video, have both the 8K Pro and Komodo, both fantastic cameras. Hey which Teleprompter do you use?
This was an awesome, very informative and well thought out video! Really helped me! Thanks!
Nice vid!
I honestly think Blackmagic has the best color science besides Arri.
Yes, I agree with you but sometimes people think other way and see colours differently
Specially with the gen5 update
How long have you been colorblind?
@@5guysproduction234 you really think the company behind the industry-standard color tools WOULDN'T Have some of the best color? Canon looks nice in daylight balance... looks like trash for anything else. Sony looks like trash all around. Red has never been known for color... although it's very flexible. Are YOU colorblind? Or are you one of those people that likes to pretend expensive camera are "magically" better for some reason?
@@Frontigenics Leave him, he was probably introduced to cinematography by some wannabe filmmaker friend. These people have little to no knowledge about digital technology and are led to believe that RED is the best company ever by high-school dropout turned youtubers. I was like him once T_T
A really great overview Brandon. So on the button in terms of thinking about the kind of work you are doing and not just buying the camera because you want it. I'm just off 3 days of shooting different jobs using the 6k pro running and gunning and it's a dream to get up and running. I am also in post for a short that I directed that was shot on a Red and the images we captured are amazing. Two very different scenarios! Two great solutions in the BMPCC 6k and the Red.
What mount would I need to use Cooke lenses with the bmcc6k ?
Question for experts:
In komodo 16 stops dynamic range, and bmpcc 6k pro 13 stops, is there a big difference during shooting?
I already have experience with another camera. Should I buy the red Komodo.
What, if any, are the file sizes of each?
i LOVE your sweatshirt bro
Great video!! I have a Komodo and the fact that I have a RED on a ronin s2 is crazy. My clients are obsessed with how small and versatile I am. The global shutter for the win! Honestly, the footage is almost better than my RED Scarlet Weapon. I also just use my phone as a secondary monitor.
Do you use that shure mic for the audio In this video?
WHAT TRIPOD DID YOU HAVE THE RED ON?
Great comparison. Thank you.
Really well done video and argument. Thanks for this.
This is an awesome video man! Thank you 🤘
Damn man, you did a very good job of laying out everything according to the facts.
This video was extremely helpful. Thanks!
Love all your video 🔥🔥🇯🇲🇯🇲
Hi Brandon , thanks a lot very objective !!
So , with my Panasonic Super35mm S1H’s ecosysteem should i take a R Komodo beside for the fast captions according to her super “ Global schutter”..?
Both écosystems should match in Raw Rec..
What about the URSA 12k?
Here’s the thing... As a film student, I’ve shot on both bigger RED’s and the BMPCC 4K, and I’d probably rig both the Komodo and BMPCC 6K up - I enjoy the time spent on setting up the camera and making the perfect shot, and with experience you learn to do it quicker as well. The global shutter is almost a must for me, but as a film student who wants to slip my foot into the industry, the BMPCC 6K is the only thing a person like me can dream about getting started with, as few students have the money to buy and rig up he Komodo.
I think this guy is a film student

What piece you that’s is on the top of your outrigger Handel. Is that nato rail?
Nice explanation. Really helped me to buy.
Very well put.
insane review. you the best
@@zacharykepler3567 agree to disagree agree. Cheers.
@@zacharykepler3567 For what i film and how i shoot, if the Komodo and 6k pro were the same price, i'll still get the 6k pro.
This was so so helpful. Thank you!!
Thank you for posting this. Great video. ...Do you have any issues with the ND filters in the 6K pro with tenting or IR pollution?
I heard that there is a monitor that can control KOMODO wirelessly. It seems to be specially made for KOMODO. Does anyone know?
Its brand seems to be called PORTKEYS, and its model seems to be BM5 WR. If you have used it, please introduce it. How does it feel to use it with KOMODO?
I want to buy one and try it recently, thank you!
I love that last point. If you really want it get it.
