    Your complaint about the ergonomics is very strange to me. I own the 6K pro and not once has this problem occurred to me. Picking up my camera after hearing you complain just to see where my left hand would naturally gravitate to I found my left hand automatically rested right on the snout. It feels perfectly fine and it's so strange to me that anyone can pick this camera up and be at a loss as to where to place their left hand but here we are. Very odd complaint imo
    edit: I used you're instead of your haha

      Yessss! plus, now your arm is away from the weipu and usb-c connections. I got into a habit of looking down at my 6k to make sure I wasn't pressing against those connections. @@josephwoods354 I own the 6k Pro and was also suprise by what he said as it feels really comfortable and natural placing my hands under the snout. I was always advocating for the cube form when i had the og 6k, but after buying the 6k Pro and filming with it, i now prefer this form over the cube. The cube looks good and looks pro but this is much easier to de-rig from a gimbal and run and gun with.

    Personally, I think this is the best camera out there. Image wise, it blows even more expensive cameras completely out of the water. Ergonomic-wise, you'll learn to work with it. I just use a Plong plate or some rods and the grip is fantastic! Great video, Caleb.

    I've shot a bunch of videos with my 6k Pro and I disagree with pretty much your entire complaint department. Is the camera slightly big and clunky? For sure, but 'Awful' is pretty far fetched and over-dramatic. The camera is absolutely ridiculous quality for the money. 99% of people using it will be rigging it up with a follow focus or something similar. The whole 'palm' complaint is super strange and VERY specific to only you! :)

    honestly, We use the 6k as our studio camera and for talking head stuff, and use a C200 for run-and-gun with the dual pixel af. We'll probably get a 6k pro for a two-angle talking head setup. Fixed focus and it's on sticks so for that you really can't beat the quality, especially writing directly to an ssd. really comes down to being the right tool for the right job!

    Honestly, I watch a lot of your videos. especially the old camera reviews, however, I must admit, this video kinda ticked me off a bit. It's like, no matter what camera manufacturers do, people will find something to complain about. No camera i perfect. NONE! This camera was designed for full production. Movies and high end commercials...not run and gun shooters. I mean, with everything BMD put into this camera, you still found something to complain about. I used this camera to shoot a commercial last Friday, and it was joy to work with compared to my other big massive cameras. DPs I know that are shooting FX shows and BET shows love this camera and can't praise it enough. Anyways, I guess to each it's own.

    • @Chromedbustop
      @Chromedbustop 3 года назад

      In fairness, if someone made a video and didn't put any negative critiques in it then people would be like "Oh you're probably getting paid by the camera company!!! Sellout!" So even if someone loves using a camera if they make a video review about it they kind of do have to find something negative to say just to seem balanced. Thats why so many people have to take time putting disclaimers in their videos ("This video is/isn't sponsored." "It's my opinion." So on and so forth).
      So while it may be true that no matter what camera manufacturers do, people will find something to complain about, the same thing could be said about video reviews. No matter what kind of review someone gives, viewers will find something to complain about.
      And I'm not saying this to get into a fight with you. Just that I kind of understand that it can be tricky to do these kinds of videos, especially if you say something negative about the product. But he just gave his opinion. I don't think he meant for it to be taken as the end-all-be-all review of this camera.

    • @guguemichaels
      @guguemichaels 3 года назад

      @@Chromedbustop I understand what you are saying, however, as user of that product, those complaints are non-void because I just shot an entire movie with that camera and do not agree with some part of his review. As I said, the camera is not a run and gun camera but yet, people use it as such them complain when they don't get the same result as run and gun DSLR cameras. That's what ticks me off. It is a production camera. Even Blackmagic as a company said it in all their videos. It is for movies, commercials and controlled environment. Not run and gun or vlogging. It ticks me off whenever people complain about things made for controlled environment with this camera. So it's not the review, is what he complained about.

    This is what happens when someone who doesn't make content that requires a Blackmagic camera has his opinions.
    It's an awesome bit of kit and we're lucky to have Blackmagic, without them we'd be at the mercy of red, arri et al.
    You need to use a GH5 or something, the cinema cameras aren't for you, they should be rigged/set up for shooting, either shoulder mount or tripod mount etc. When you rig any BMD up properly, it's just as easy to use as any other camera.
    Also, the ability to place this where other raw 6K cams won't go, is it's selling point. It can be rigged up to be red big, or broken down in a class of its own.
    You say the IQ is great but your footage is flat plant leaves. Show us how great you are and then your critique will be more valid.

      Exactly this, you can't even use this camera on its own for the most part without any additional rigging. Sure you could use it as is as a DSLR camera cinematographer but cmon, this is a cinema camera. The red he showed had an additional handle and whatnot attached to it. Same could be in this case. You could get small rig or tilt a handles. Hell I don't even imagine using this camera handheld like he did with his hand under the lens. Are you kidding me? You're getting this camera to have your hand on the lens when adjusting focus? What happened to follow focuses or wireless focuses? There is no way this camera is getting rocked on its own like this unless it's going to be used by some amateur wedding photographers. This is not a run and gun camera and it never was advertised as. Sure it's called the pocket but it also says "CINEMA", which involves then modularity. You have to rig it.

      @@RiderInRed then it's no longer pocket. Some people goes for portability and looking to keep the quality. Sometimes people like to work without dealing with much hassle

      @RiderInRed 3 года назад +1

      @@samuelsulaiman Yes, but cinema cameras are a whole different realm. it says pocket cinema, which in and of itself should already signify that this thing is not going to be portable or pocketable. If you dont want to deal with hassle and wanna go for a run and gun scenario, cinema cameras are simply not for you. Look at other cinema cameras and compare the size of BMPCC and you'll see that this thing is rather on the smaller side of the bunch

    Kinda seems like you have a love/hate relationship with cinema cameras in general. I think like the sigma fp, this is a case of who is this camera for?
    If you’re a videographer or youtuber and you need a quick turnaround time, this may not be the best option.
    But if you’re an independent filmmaker and you’re looking for something that handles raw well and you’re working with a small crew, this is a viable option.

    We use a pair of 6K Pro's for all our productions and a 6K for our RUclips content. Fair criticisms all around, but like you said towards the end, for what you're paying/getting in this camera, it's absolutely unparalleled. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

    I’m glad to say that my 2 year old Lumix S1 just added an upgrade that made it a beast in 2021. 10bit true VLOG, 14 stops of dynamic range, 5.9k at 60 frames, anamorphic mode, full frame mirror less CMOS, and more. I paid 3400 with lens and all two years ago but it’s nice to know that Panasonic has it’s customers in mind and that the S1 is still very, very relevant two years later.

    The BMPCC 4k, 6k and 6k Pro needs (can't emphasis this enough) a cage for best ergonomic effect. Using the same video you created for the 4k with a cage, rails, external battery and adding audio cables and SSD drive for recording you can have a beast of a video camera for under $3500

  • @GimbleProductions
    @GimbleProductions 3 года назад +1

    The camera is awful because you have trouble holding it and the screen colours may be slightly off but can be adjusted? All you need is a cage with rails and that will solve the issue, giving you a place to put your hand under, or even mount a follow focus too and grip onto that - its not an awful camera, it may just have a design thats unlike your other cameras.

    God I want this camera so bad. Every time I hear someone break down the positives and ask if the negatives are worth it I don't even think twice when I say yes. If you are an aspiring filmmaker, you want the most features and control as possible on a budget. Rigs on cinema cameras are almost always a cumbersome mess of cables, antennae, operating equipment, and monitors anyway, and the majority of moving shots are still going to be on some sort of steadicam or or dolly system because the hand-held look doesn't apply. The value of this camera so outweighs the cost it's insane.

    I went into a store last weekend to check this out. I found that my palm rested comfortably on the snout and I was able to focus the Canon zoom easily. Problem solved. The C70 didn't seem as comfortable to handle to me. I'm not a hand-holder in general, but found the 6kPro to be surprisingly comfortable and thought with a stabilized zoom...perhaps I would shoot more that way. And the carbon fiber body didn't feel cheap. I appreciated the weight.

    My team got this camera right when it came out. For the first few months without a rig, using it was almost impossible, it's ergonomics are really annoying. Once cages were finally being produced, getting it rigged up with a specific combo of handles really worked for me, and now it's a dream to shoot with. I don't have to touch the nasty plastic, and the cage's ergonomics are way better and help with the weight distribution. Since it was always our plan to rig it up, this worked great for us, though I have to agree I really with the camera was better without a cage. If you are planning or willing to cage this beast of a camera, I really don't think it can be beat for the price range it's incredible to work with RAW footage that's so high quality at this price point.

    Seems like a well thought out review, but perhaps a bit biased. The lens on this camera is narrower and longer than the others, perhaps to exaggerate your point, but seems a bit dishonest. Sorry.
    Another error that’s not limited to this reviewer is the statement that this body is plastic. Not quite, but rather this body is carbon fiber. While carbon fiber is technically a composite plastic material, it is superior to ‘plastic’ and it is also superior to metal, so the inferiors are the ones on the table. This body flexes less than the others and is lighter as a result. Think Really Right Stuff, Ferrari, Corvette and on and on.

    I mean.... I can hold it the way he's talking about... maybe because I have large hands? Also, the reason why the battery life is so poor, is because you literally have a built in 5inch Monitor...eliminating the weight of having to have an external monitor.

    I think I watched this video when it first came out but after having shot with the 6K Pro now since it was first released I have to say the complaints in this video just don't make sense to me. The snout is where I rest my hand and every position you described as "comfortable" on other cameras looks extremely uncomfortable to me. Your solution of adding the bump out I tried to imagine and I'm pretty sure you couldn't even reach the lens with a bump out. I have pretty average sized hands and resting my hand under the snout with the other hand on a the large grip feeds fantastic, especially compared to smaller camera bodies like the typical hybrid cameras. Then the color temperature shift is a non-issue that is a one time fix that takes maybe a minute to do, and my Blackmagic battery (3500mah) I did a test with and got over an hour of battery life. The 3rd party 2200mah or 2600mah will definitely not last as long though so I'm assuming you were using one of those. I also rarely shoot with the screen above maybe 20%-40% brightness because it's SO bright and indoors I'll turn it even lower, which helps with battery life. The 5 inch (super bright) screen is fantastic for solo shooting. Most cameras you definitely need an external monitor just to make them even usable but this is already built in and tilt-able for high and low angle shooting. Honestly its ergonomics make it one of the most fun cameras to shoot with in my opinion.

    You don't need any "3D printed parts" or SOLDERING (?!?!) come on man, ahah! You just need to rig it a bit, or, as someone else suggested, to mount a longer plate to the bottom of it, if you really don't want to add anything (which doesn't really make a lot of sense for such a camera, to me).

    I don't disagree entirely but IMO I don't think it's THAT bad to shoot with. I've filmed 3-4 weddings with the 6K pro and plenty of other gigs. A few cage-less, with a neck strap, and a few completely rigged out. I find myself resting my palm on the rails positioned under the lens to pull focus and my right hand on the grip. I will be using the half-cage in the future though because I have smaller hands and holding onto the grip WITH the cage is pretty difficult. Let's all hope for a CUBE shaped BM camera in the near future. LOL
