I switched from P6KPro + Canon R6 to Sony FX3 + FX6, and I totally agree, the image quality is much better on the Blackmagic (better colors, textures, details, highlight roll off = much more filmic). I really miss it, and I regret my choice of following the hype wagon. The Sony's are convenient that's for sure but if you are looking for the best quality choose the Blackmagic!!!
I love BMPCC6K But when i buy Sony FX3 i can shoot more and easier but image quality in pocket 6k still rule ! My choise for today - new BMPCC 6K Full Frame + Sony FX3 for low light and AF needed shots
Essentially it's this: Cinematically Controlled + Mostly Daylight Shooting = BMPCC 6K Run-And-Gun/Guerilla + Night Shooting = Sony FX3 Combining them seems like the best approach then grade them stylistically to match.
@@haivan4923 sigma fp is not remotely on the same level imho. It runs very clunky and is a painful workflow. It's a good gizmo, but not a production machine
Why is it cinematic or run-and-gun? What if you shoot a music video and have to do a little action? How are you going to handle a camera with no continuous focus and stabilization as a one man crew? How will you pull onto a subject and control focus? People who defend BM usually just do panning and static work.
I've been a Panasonic user for 4 years and just recently purchased the Sony FX3 and I am now so dependent on Autofocus. I never realized just how insanely accurate and steady the focus could be, especially in run and gun scenarios. I think that is worth the extra $1,400 alone! Great video as always!
Finally someone who says the right thing! It's not about the camera, it's about the "style" of how you make videos. I film wildlife and would definitely prefer the FX3 for ISO performance. Great video, keep it up!
Upgraded from the GH5 to the FX6. Man, autofocus is a game-changer. I thought it was overhyped, but once you use native lenses, it is nearly impossible to go back.
As a Blackmagic user myself I can comment on the difference you noticed in dynamic range. Looking at the tests by CinD testing the A7S3 which is the exact same sensor in the FX3 but with a different body. CineD tests show the Sony is actually a full stop in dynamic range above the Blackmagic. The difference you are noticing is the sudden fall of in the highlights and shadows from the Sony. Here the Blackmagic rolls off smoother which gives it the appearance of equal dynamic range to the Sony.
@@NINETY-97-SEVENSony probably gave more dynamic range in the shadow than blackmagic. You can use lower iso than your base iso 800, so you can have more dynamic range in your highlight at the cost of shadow noise.
I'm not an expert, but should be able to control rolloff in Post, if you shot footage with a higher dynamic range than rec. 709. The 6k Shifts the dynamic range towards the Highlights, if you higher the ISO. At the Prozess of converting your footage to rec. 709 you should be able to controll falloff?
here is how I see these 2 cameras. if you want to get the cheeper camera get the fx3. 1 lens (24-70 or 16-35), 1 vnd filter and 1 sd card( v60 is the best money to performance option) and batteries( at least 3) will take you all the way. the BMPCC 6K is very expensive. 1st after you buy the camera thinking its cheep, you will most likely buy the sigma 18-35 for the virsatility, then an ssd (samsung t5- the t7 or newer dosen't work on it) and you will want a focus puller cause no AF(nucleas nano and a guy to pull focus(optional)) and to mount the storage and focus pulling on the camera, a cage. you will also get a v-mount later on because the battery dosent last at all. later you will buy an external ND as well because the internal nd is not enought and lots of extra hardrives because you will find out the 6k spits out really huge size files so about 8tb if you dont mind clearing drive every 2-3 months. But if you want the best image and post production ability and no money limit, get the 6k. the braw is easy to process and has in my openion more dynamic range than the fx3. but make sure you use the cameras before buying anyone of them. the safer one is the fx3 if you cant have test runs.
The problem is people come always this sigma lens as solution, although is a good lens i would say get a cinema lens instead a budget friendly one like 35mm s35 meike they are great for the price and belive me the quality of image is amazing the colors. If you want autofocus get a pdmovie live smart is a lidar system is cheap and you can pull focus manualy too it have battery you will avoid cables.
Completely agree with every word said in this video. I use both cameras. The 6K Pro is a beast in controlled environments. The FX3 is unparalleled in run and gun situations.
Dude, thanks for this video! Blackmagic is king! We need more of these types of videos! Sony needs to add a "usable" dynamic range to the description, but there's no way it has 15 stops. The big difference is the Pocket 6K pro is a real cinema camera, where you have to light, learn to pull focus, and learn how to shoot steady handheld. Even still, the dual native ISO lets you capture clean images in lower light situations or just using practicals. Shooting in almost complete darkness and expecting to get an image is ridiculous. If you master that, you can use this camera for run-and-gun and documentary films. Ultimately, you will be a more highly skilled filmmaker in every way rather than depending on AF or IBIS.
I saw some big time movie makers said the same thing. Cinema lenses are not auto focus lenses that should have ringed a bell to most people that's serious about movie production. I too love the auto focus but now from looking at the guys in the business all the auto stuff is a bit watered down for people that just want to rush there work flow. At least that's what it looks like.
I was going to say the same thing about the BMPCC 6k pro. Cinema camera vs point and shoot with autofocus. Completely different animals. I do agree with this video in that the BMPCC gives a better image. Ive done tests between a DJI Ronin 4D, a canon c70, canon R5, and a Red Komodo and my 6K pro still outshines them all.
You can totally use the FX3 like a cinema camera though. And the useable DR is close it’s like 13.5 in most scenarios and if you maximize it it can hit close to 14. You can also get a RAW recorder, and “learn to shoot” properly with cinema lenses. It has all the features to do so except limited anamorphic desqueeze. You can technically do most everything on the FX3 that you can do on the P6K except have internal NDs and shoot 6k. You can’t however shoot in low light without lights, shoot run and gun with Auto focus, shoot on full frame lenses without adapters, etc. Nothing prevents you from using the FX3 like a 6K pro but there’s a lot preventing you from using the 6k like an fx3
LOL real cinema camera doesnt mean you have to learn to light/pull focus etc at all, this coming from a guy who shot projects on a real cinema camera aka Arriflex 435 on Kodak vision3 film stock alot
Previous owner of bmpcc6k pro, and now fx3. I agree with your point and I still lean to blackmagic braw image quality, but yeah shooting solo and run and gun made the blackmagic rig get big and more flashier. So losing the image quality and gained small form factor, better battery life, no cropping when shooting lower res, mobility, and lowlight performance. I believe both cameras are amazing and it all depends on the project type and style.
The dude specifically said not to use ANY External ND's lol hence why I said he had no choice but to use external NDs since the FX3 doesn't have any internally. Yeah obviously using matching external NDs is the ideal solution, but the dude was saying not to use any full stop, which makes no sense.@@arturio55
@@arturio55 Tell that to the original commenter I was responding to who mentioned external ND's, all I was doing was informing him that the FX3 has no internal ND's.
Very well-done video, and glad to see a fellow creator from Florida. I’ll say the reason you may not have noticed Sony’s 15 stops of dynamic range. The way you exposed your shots were fantastic, but in order to reap the full dynamic range of S-Log3 you must expose each shot +1.0 to +1.7 past what the multi-meter says is +0.0. Since they clean up shadows rather well via low-light superiority and highlight recovery is decent, it adds more range.
Thank you for this! I have both, but I've shot with my 6k Pro for the longest. I finally shot a project with my FX3 indoors and I was thoroughly impressed. The 6k Pro's built-in filters and RAW capability is why it is my first choice. Definitely what I would use outdoors. If I had to shoot a project with a quick turnaround, in my experience, the FX3 just does it. Without touching any settings or enabling features, I was able to use the FX3 and have a quality video without grading or adding a LUT. I will shoot with the FX3 a little more to see which one produces a "less digital" looking image. Lastly, I got the 6k Pro first because of the screen/monitor. If you get the FX3, please get an external monitor. I had to get the Atomos Ninja V just to view menus and playbacks.
Good review bro, i think that the red cast in the sony fx3 is due to the ND filter. Most of the consumer NDs doesn't have the IR filter, so you end up with a lot of red and magenta in the shadows and mid-tones
Great work! Just pointing out to you that the outdoor audio phases out in mono, so whoever watches this on their phones or mono bluetooth speakers will barely hear you speak. To fix it, use Audacity and split the stereo track to dual mono, export one of those mono tracks and use that one on the center.
BMPCC6k wins image quality. The FX3 looked good but really fell apart in the night scenes - it looked super digital/plasticky. One camera you might want to check out is the S5iiX - the b-raw is on par with the Blackmagic, but you have better ibis than the FX3 and almost as good autofocus.
I have blackmagic all from 2.5k to 6k all is my main camera in the past i have all sony camera to work and i have fx3 fx6 not for my ..the blackmagic is a magic for my a filmed in ROMANIA . good job bro for this comparation ...
I definitely think the FX3 is what I would go for. I am a Sony user and gimbal guy. But having used a 6k Pro before I do love how easy it is to use and the ND is super helpful. My main issue with it though is how expensive it can be to just get to use that B Raw and the computer to really edit it well. Also the battery life is an issue for me just drains to fast even with the better battery than the pocket 6k
I have a desktop PC that's from 2018. And the 6k Braw(on a 4k timeline) edits and grades wayyyyy smoother than the 4k h.265 from my friend's A7siii. Raw actually means the computer will have to do less work to decode everything. That is unless you are editing on the newer Apple computers with the M series processors... since they have h.265 accelerators built in.
@@zechenwei1139you don’t have to shoot in h.265. You can shoot in All I which is h.264 and it’s way easier to edit. You can also shoot in h.265 but shoot in 10 bit 4:2:0 and it’s easier to edit and has marginal quality differences. You can also use built in proxies or generate proxies in premiere. As someone who worked in production on old iMacs we shot on Canon C300s and BMPCC6K (non pro) and Sony A1s and Fuji XT cameras. We just generated proxies. It might take a couple hours but we could do other tasks, like prep for other shoots, eat lunch etc. and come back. And even on old 6700k iMacs we could edit 4K footage that was raw, compressed 10 but etc.
Been using the Studio Camera 6K Pro with a Canon f2.8 70-200 side-by-side a FX6 in a live setting for a few weeks now....the 6K Pro wins hands down. It's like the Sony has a weird color smoothing or something and makes the skin tones look muddy!
Amazing dude!! I was literally thinking about which one of these two cameras should I get. This is truly the best video comparing the two, thank you❤ I will go with the FX3 :)
Slog3 is great for LUTs. Ones like Phantom LUTs come to mind. I’m not into super tweaky color grading. I’d rather have a LUT get me 95% there and make minor adjustments. One thing to think about is ergonomics with these two cameras. I’ve found that the BMPCs aren’t as good hand held. The screens are good and the menus are good, but they don’t flip out and overall the FX3 works really well scaled down and not all rigged up and heavy.
Was stuck on these two as my main, then used the Fuji X-H2s, and feel like its the perfect blend of both of these needs but with the color science of the BMPCC
great review. In my opinion, if you're a beginner filmmaker and trying to make money, the FX3 is the way to go & truly worth waiting a bit longer if necessary to save up a bit more to purchase because you're less limited in terms of what you can create. Sure the blackmagic has a slightly better image but the FX3 is phenominal and at the end of the day, the viewer wont even notice that minor difference, story is king. With the blackmagic you'll need a way to pull focus (which will be a MASSIVE headache if you're a beginner) and that adds to the cost. Then if you want to film in dark places, you'll need lights, and lights can be really expensive as well, which just adds to the cost and then that will eliminate the guerilla aspect of beginner filmmaking. plus, if 12 bit raw is the determining factor, you can record 16bit raw externally on the FX3. lastly you can always build your camera up slowly, buy only the essential to get started and you can rent anything extra you might need for bigger shoots on rental sites like sharegrid.
This is a spot on take. I'm excited to get to use my 6K PRO but I'm way out of my league with it as well(I'll learn). I'm currently looking at the A7IV for all the reasons you mentioned. Low light, nice photos(a potential side hustle) IBIS etc. The A7IV will be an easier way to make money out the gate and I'll use the 6K PRO as I get more comfortable with it. Currently looking at the DJI Ronin 3PRP and LIDAR to get all the features the FX3 has. I.e. if I want stabilization and autofocus I'm going to fork over another 2 grand bringing the total investment easily above 5K for the 6K. Great camera that I will keep and use but it's not necessarily ideal for beginners, which to be fair is why I got it.
Great info, bro! I'm looking to buy the 6k pro to take videos on my high-end houses I'm building. Which is a control environment, and as soon as you said that, I knew... Ty!
Great video! I own the Pocket 6K, early this year I bought two Sigma F1.7 lenses to get better quality in low light. I'm thinking of getting the FX3 for fast shooting in low light. I usually shoot manual not auto. I like the Pocket 6K skin tone better (12bit) of course, but if you're someone prefer auto instead of manual, you should go for the FX3. Alex, good job on comparing these two cameras.
Any DP that shoot with A cinema camera doesn't care to much for in body stabilization or auto focus. They like to tell the camera what to do and not it tell you what to do. However the Sony fx3 is a beast.
If the black magic had continued AF and a full frame sensor it would be elite. But the FX3 is still a great camera with its slow motion Af and the full frame. But BM colours will always be W
That if is a very big If, Sony came a very long and hard way to get this kind AF and right now no company can compare to that. Especially a company like BM, they never touch AF in any case.
I generally love everything i've seen shot on the 6K. Not so much the FX3 and I own 2 of them. Debating the Blackmagic for that image.... and then Gareth Edwards goes and makes The Creator on FX3's and it looks astounding. They just keep adding value to the FX3. I use it for online content creation and it just gets out of the way, it's a robust image i can push/pull really far. Put a zeiss 55 1.8 on it with a ronin RS and just shoot. It's great!
Man, you produce quality videos like super fast! I'd love to see a BTS of your content creation processs🙌🏻 Also, FX3 for sure. I'm currently working on a narrative project where I'm able to rent an fx3 and an A7IV for a b-cam. Dream combo if you ask me. Their autofocus, reliability & mobility is 🔥🔥🔥
@@idirrefsi9499 TLDR; Not really if you know your way around in post production. You could easily match the two with minimal adjustments. Both are superb if you know how to use them "for their own strengths" it depends if you want more versatility or a workhorse in terms of filmmaking. → A7IV - if you want an all around body → FX3 - if you're exclusively shooting videos/lowlight/fast paced (A7IV has a bit of wobble when whipping it) I suggest going with the FX3 if you already have a photo camera to pair it with. The A7IV is super sharp that I find myself reducing some in post, but with a filtration on top of the lens, you're good to go. The FX3... you just know it's built for filmmakers. It won't let you down on any type of video project. It's so good at lowlight ISO 12800 barely has noise in it, it's mind blowing. Also doesn't get that hot like the A7IV (Kinda uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time if I'm shooting 4K60 as it gets hot. Never had it overheated on me tho) But I find myself going for the A7IV as my daily body as it gives me versatility shooting videos and great photos, still good at lowlight (atleast for me).. aps-c mode is an added bonus if I wanted more reach.
6K user. I run mine on the rs2, full tilta cage, which i fit just fine ninja v for my monitor. i have added the dji counterweight set to the gimbal as well. make no mistake, this is a mf workout. but worth the results. i shoot a lot of music festivals, which means at times, i'm hurdling stage structures and speaker platforms. i'm setup where i can swap to handheld from time to time to fit somewhere, so even disconnecting / rebalancing everything has been quick for me. i do have years of experience doing this in low lit venues and nightclubs, but i think anyone could adapt to this. the focus issue tho? i don't calibrate my FF i just plug into the rs2 and go so there's no down time there, i adjust my focus as i move with the finger wheel, and i have to move much faster than most shooting scenarios are called for. i think once you've gotten used to the rhythm of coordinating / multitasking all that it becomes automatic so not having continuous autofocus hasn't been an issue for me. the sony is great for low light, but also I shoot mostly electronic, and the visual displays are insane so it just sets fire to our footage. my main selling point though is i find that the artists i work for prefer the look of the blackmagic, which has directly contributed to how much busier i've been this season.
Facts! few people were talking about the Sony FX3 till word got out about it being used as the primary camera of choice for the film THE CREATOR. Now all the worlds a buzz about the FX3 and prices are skyrocketting despite its age. now granted its capabilities in low light is indeed awesome, but the fact is, Sony has been putting out impressive film gear for some time. Now, yes, it is worthy of praise considering its reach. but the fact of the matte is.. what you see on the big sceen is not simply the camera's captured footage. people holey forget about post!. theirs a hell of a lot more to making a film than simply finding and using a great camera. hell if thats all you had your work would never make it past QC.
They both have around 12 stops of dynamic range. Davinci highlight recovery gives you .5-1 stop extra dynamic range(though it lacks color info). So the BMP6K does appear to have more dynamic range than the FX3.
The green tint can be easily fixed on camera (BMPCC6K) for better comparison results otherwise people might think you cant get a nice skin tone straight from the camera
I'm a blackmagic guy myself, however through the years I've learned that the best equipment to have is the one you really need, not what's latest and greatest. That being said...CHALLENGE accepted. I'll probably get both LOL 😂
Hi Alex great Video in Europe FX3 is 4200 -4500€vs 2200-2300€ so here is even a no brainer personally I would go for S5iiX with blackmagic video assist...I was making some documentary work last two days with S5org and videoassist and Braw from S5 is really good almost as good as BMPCC6K footage...and low light is really good with fast lenses like the L prime...AF if you know the limitation is mostly usable as a long time GH5s S5 owner I can get almost all the time the shoots I want...but If I can I prefer to use the BMPCC6K or 4K just run and gun situation is probably not the camera to pick up...and by the way S5 org battery last for ever...the NP980 will die before it...
I was thinking of getting in the S5iiX. I was pretty set on it until i stumbled on this video and the FX3 sounds amazing with the autofocus. What do you mean when you say the AF is mostly usable? Can you expand on that? I would appreciate it!
I own a BMPCC 6k G2 and regularly shoot on a 6k Pro. I don’t find the now $1000 price difference worth it even with the internal NDs (the only difference between the 2 cameras) So if you were comparing the G2 to the FX3 now the price difference is $2500 for someone just starting out.
Great video and I appreciate your humility, I need more of that in my videos. I liked your opinions, and I bought a 6k FF, so there is that, but my brother told me it would be best for my kind of work. God bless you and have a great day.
The 6k pro is 🔥 plus it waaaaaayyyyy cheaper compare to the FX3. But man....I'm aiming more towards the FX3. Freaking over $5000 with the len included. Goals!!!!
The video was very informative. However, I would appreciate a better understanding of the sound. The sound is inverted phase in the intro scene and very noisy. If you make it mono, the voice disappears, which causes problems on many mobile devices.
Really good test, i think the same,im a fx3 owner Black magic its too sharp perfect for studio situations, but fx3 puro focus and native iso are incredible I hope in a fusion “ black Magic fx5 “ to create the perfect camera ahah Gg from italy
Can you go over a step by step on color grading with B-raw for someone who is upgrading from a t5i to a blackmagic 6k pro. this is a new process for me.
Even though I used Sony for photography, I must say that Blackmagic is definitely more cinematic and a better choice for cinematography. FX3 footage feels more like that of a basic SLR camera, whereas Blackmagic footage feels more cinematic and like that of a proper movie camera.
Of course the Blackmagic 6K will have more noise showing up. It's shooting in BRAW. The FX3 has digital denoising done on to of the stuff you're recording. I can easily shoot at ISO 8000 with Blackmagic 6K, put it in Davinci Resolve, and clean it up super quick. Try shooting RAW with the FX3 and compare both. Then it will be a fair comparison. That being said, it's obvious that an APS-C sensor will have more grain than a Full Frame sensor.
I think if you new and have the money then FX3 because they have so many lens adopters that you can get one all around lens and then get some good used glass from different brand that can be used. They have those hyper primes that just came out. I think one thing that threw some of your frames off was focal length. I would have been good to see both framed in the same shot that being matched in camera vs post would give a good idea of sameness. Always good stuff. I think a better test would be the Fx30 and the Pocket 6k.
Another best part about black magic is that i can freely edit a raw footage in davinci while sony fx3 only can shoot pro res with atomos ninja monitor, and no raw format. Which i got a bit regret as the only benefit i hv for FX3 is it battery life & shot in low iso.. not to mention color skin in sony is a bit red 😅
For me BM has one of the most beautiful image quality out there, if you want a fast camera get the canon r6 o r5c, I’m not convinced of Sonys image quality yet… I never like the fx3 quality, I was about to change since I like how the camera looks and perform but image quality is not there, definitely with good lighting you can make anything shine
Comparing the image of the FX3 at 1:34 with the image of the FX3 at 1:36 there is a huge difference in skin tones. Considering that it is the same camera, you probably messed up the WB for the shot the skin tones came out way to magenta. Or maybe something went wrong with the editing? Thanks
I need help. I’ve never used cameras before and want to start making RUclips content while also learning how to make cinematic content as my true passion is film. I’ve never used or owned a camera and have been having my eyes heavily on the FX3 and the black magic 6k pro but every single review and opinion I see seems to all be the same and as someone who’s new I’m struggling to find which one I think would best fit. What do you guys recommend? FX3 or BMPCC6k Pro? In terms of easy, amazing quality, simple with editing, versatility (RUclips content + cinematic content), etc.
i know these are good for shooting documentaries but which camera is best at shooting a movie? what would you recommend? im just now starting im trying to find a good movie camera.. please send me in the right direction
What’s up brother. Truth is they’re both great cameras but they both excel at different things and I think it’s important to know what kind of shots your trying to achieve and the kind of content your going to be shooting most of the time and then try to evaluate the pros and cons of both. I think the FX3 is probably more suited for beginners.
Manufacturers advertise their dynamic range rating with WILDLY different standards. Sony's "15 stops+" dynamic range includes everything the sensor can detect, regardless of signal-to-noise ratio, which is not very helpful and potentially misleading in practical use. With the same standard, Sony is rating their cameras, the 6k pro could be advertised to have 16 stops 😂.
And that also doesn't account for the "Highlight recovery" function in Davinci Resolve that could about 1/3 stops more and avoid harsh clipping in the image.
Thank you for the video this answers my questions without a doubt! I appreciate the real world example and not some lab test. I do have a recommendation though and that's to lesson "in my opinion" I mean anything you say is your opinion lol
Were you using the 3rd party filters in both cameras for color comparison, or were you only using the Freewell on the FX3 and using the built-ins on the P6k?
We were using the built in the 6K Pro and the Freewell on the FX3. That might play a role however the Freewell claims to be as close to neutral as possible.
i think that downloadable footage can help - the fx3 look too magenta so there is somthing wrong with the balance - also sony provide really bad luts so there are some amazing luts for better starting point like phantom lut - next time just balance the image to get the most natural image and use better lut as starting point then compare the image (blackmagic is amazing but sony can provide amazing image) also remember that you can use the lut in camera with the sony so you can get amazing rec 709 with phantom luts
I've seen other BMPCC 6K PRO side-by-side comparisons like this and in every case, the Blackmagic skin tone, color pickup, and clarity is always better. The FX3 is just muddy looking. Just wait until November when the full frame Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera 6K (L-mount) comes out!
I bought FX3, but I still can’t learn how to paint frames, the colors seem dirty, and the image is plastic, not alive 😔 I switched from Nikon Z6 + Atomos Ninja V. But I hope this is a matter of skills, and not the nature of the color and camera images and your shots prove it . Thank you!

How could you get better falloff in highlights & shadows on the FX3? I have the ZV-E1 (which also uses the same sensor) and I would like to know :(
@@NINETY-97-SEVENSony probably gave more dynamic range in the shadow than blackmagic.
I own both cameras and I normally pick up the fx3 for my run and gun . I use the 6k for higher end .
That’s exactly what I think
How do you find matching colour grade across both? I run 2 BM 6K’s and looking at selling one for the FX3.
@@jordansummers9116 I use phantom luts as a base and just tweak white balance. These luts make everything super easy
I do the exact same thing. I don’t love the FX3 but it’s hard not to use it for easy shoots.
@@MrVh78 So that Arriflex had AF? Did it have 25,000 ISO? Ridiculous.
💯 agree
Same situation here. For solo run and gun, the FX3 is a no brainer 👍
Don't use External ND's when testing cameras. Cause different ND's affect the sensor differently.
Fx3 has no internal NDs so he really had no choice.
@JedCamara no choice??? How about buying 2 of the same aftermarket ND and putting them on each camera.
@@JedCamara in that case, don't emphasize "external" just say don't use NDs at all, which would have been the accurate test we all needed
The fx3 doesn’t have 15 stops of dn range irl… not nearly. But you’re right about overexposing and giving it some extra range!
Bmpcc 6k pro + dji lidar system... You will never ask for more 😊
What’s the lidar system?
Good review bro, i think that the red cast in the sony fx3 is due to the ND filter. Most of the consumer NDs doesn't have the IR filter, so you end up with a lot of red and magenta in the shadows and mid-tones
I rented both and bought a 6k pro the bigger screen and nd filters are game changer ..
Great work! Just pointing out to you that the outdoor audio phases out in mono, so whoever watches this on their phones or mono bluetooth speakers will barely hear you speak. To fix it, use Audacity and split the stereo track to dual mono, export one of those mono tracks and use that one on the center.
True also noticed that.
Agreed!
That's the biggest problem for me.
I've noticed they look pale perhaps that's what you meant by muddy. Though I'm going to get a Sony as a back up for my 6K.
Amazing dude!! I was literally thinking about which one of these two cameras should I get. This is truly the best video comparing the two, thank you❤ I will go with the FX3 :)
That’s awesome dude glad I could help!
Oh woah. There’s a huge difference, I didn’t expect that. The black magic looks very film like. Beautiful
I own the Pocket 6K, early this year I bought two Sigma F1.7 lenses to get better
quality in low light. I'm thinking of getting the FX3 for fast shooting in low light. I usually shoot
manual not auto. I like the Pocket 6K skin tone better (12bit) of course, but if you're someone
prefer auto instead of manual, you should go for the FX3.
It's great!
Great review Dude! I’ve been shooting my black magic for a little over a year now.
The fx3 looks amazing, but I’m going to stick with my budget and keep using my canon m50 🤣. Great video bro
Thanks brother
Man, you produce quality videos like super fast! I'd love to see a BTS of your content creation processs🙌🏻
Also, FX3 for sure. I'm currently working on a narrative project where I'm able to rent an fx3 and an A7IV for a b-cam. Dream combo if you ask me. Their autofocus, reliability & mobility is 🔥🔥🔥
Did u noticed a big difference in image quality between the fx3 and the A7 iv ?
@@idirrefsi9499 TLDR; Not really if you know your way around in post production. You could easily match the two with minimal adjustments.
Both are superb if you know how to use them "for their own strengths" it depends if you want more versatility or a workhorse in terms of filmmaking.
→ A7IV - if you want an all around body
→ FX3 - if you're exclusively shooting videos/lowlight/fast paced (A7IV has a bit of wobble when whipping it) I suggest going with the FX3 if you already have a photo camera to pair it with.
Never had it overheated on me tho)
But I find myself going for the A7IV as my daily body as it gives me versatility shooting videos and great photos, still good at lowlight (atleast for me).. aps-c mode is an added bonus if I wanted more reach.
@@idirrefsi9499 I have both, the a7iv is slightly sharper when cropping in 150% or more. Otherwise they look pretty identical.
Another factor made me go for bmpcc 6k pro over any camera ... Clients will take it more serious when you pull up a bigger camera 😅
Rig it out: you can make any dslr type camera look bigger with a cage and matte box lol
I love my BMPCC6K! Definitely love both Sony and Black magic cameras for video so this was super helpful for future investments
@@alejandropargaa S5iiX AF almost on pair with Sony S5 org well not so good but if You go with the S5iiX the AF is good
Thanks for taking the time. You are a true filmmaker. How much was your fully decked out camera; lenses, ND and all? Thanks again for sharing.
I own a BMPCC 6k G2 and regularly shoot on a 6k Pro. I don’t find the now $1000 price difference worth it even with the internal NDs (the only difference between the 2 cameras)
So if you were comparing the G2 to the FX3 now the price difference is $2500 for someone just starting out.
Cinematic footage of Blackmagic + form factor of fx3 = God tier camera
And we’re not going to get one anytime soon
I have both, I’ll use fx3 for small projects and 6k pro for bigger job
Great video and I appreciate your humility, I need more of that in my videos. I liked your opinions, and I bought a 6k FF, so there is that, but my brother told me it would be best for my kind of work. God bless you and have a great day.
The 6k pro is 🔥 plus it waaaaaayyyyy cheaper compare to the FX3. But man....I'm aiming more towards the FX3. Freaking over $5000 with the len included. Goals!!!!
Making me want an FX3….I’m gonna get a best buy credit card! Awesome stuff 🔥🔥
MY MAN🙌🏻
at the end of the day, output is the priority, it's raw vs 10bit what image quality do you prefer
The video was very informative. However, I would appreciate a better understanding of the sound. The sound is inverted phase in the intro scene and very noisy. If you make it mono, the voice disappears, which causes problems on many mobile devices.
I think its all about taste, im a Blackmagic 6k user that camera is for me
Really good test, i think the same,im a fx3 owner
Black magic its too sharp perfect for studio situations, but fx3 puro focus and native iso are incredible I hope in a fusion “ black Magic fx5 “ to create the perfect camera ahah
Gg from italy
Great Job guys 👏🏼, I have been looking for this comparison ever since
Can you go over a step by step on color grading with B-raw for someone who is upgrading from a t5i to a blackmagic 6k pro. this is a new process for me.
Man the 6k Pro has many many more features except Auto focus. The Sony has that Netflix approval though. Damn I want both.
I dont even have these cameras but I can say that Blackmagic colour science dynamic range is more cinematic ...but fx3 is good in its own way too ..
Very great review, what do you think about bmpcc 6 k pro vs ursa 12 k vs red komodo ?
Could you compare them or make a review of the new Z Cam E2-F6 Pro?? Thanks for your work!
Do a test with Blackmagic with FX 30.
I have both and appreciate each one for different style shoots great video thanks
The VND filters sometimes have a tint to it so it can throw the colors off a bit.
We need your bmpcc6k color grading process w Braw!
I got you my brother
good verses ...the P6K would do well with a lidar system ie PDmovie smart or DJI
Comparing the image of the FX3 at 1:34 with the image of the FX3 at 1:36 there is a huge difference in skin tones. Considering that it is the same camera, you probably messed up the WB for the shot the skin tones came out way to magenta. Or maybe something went wrong with the editing? Thanks
FX3 low-light capability is second to none. Has saved my ass so many times! Worth the minor drop in quality from the 6k Pro.
For run & gun -> FX3
For controlled setups -> BMPCC 6K PRO
I love how soft Sony cameras look, but I hate that black magic always seems to have a blue filter on or something
4:35 with DJI's new LiDar focus system, I'd imagine, it's much better now.
i know these are good for shooting documentaries but which camera is best at shooting a movie? what would you recommend? im just now starting im trying to find a good movie camera.. please send me in the right direction
Again, I love your content. Just a question - when comparing dynamic range were you using RAW on both (obviously BRAW for the Black magic...)?
fx3 doesn't have raw capabilities
@@JimmyBlancomy bad. I thought it did. I use my ninja v+ for raw on my Sony a7siii.
Yeah we didn’t shoot Raw on the Sony but we used the highest recording format and we shot at XAVC 4K
The BMPCC 6k also has gyro stabilization in Davinci Resolve. Also what about the menu navigation?
Great video
Thanks for sharing
which runninggun filmmaker camera do you recommend between z8, FX3 and r5c?
Manufacturers advertise their dynamic range rating with WILDLY different standards. Sony's "15 stops+" dynamic range includes everything the sensor can detect, regardless of signal-to-noise ratio, which is not very helpful and potentially misleading in practical use. With the same standard, Sony is rating their cameras, the 6k pro could be advertised to have 16 stops 😂.
And that also doesn't account for the "Highlight recovery" function in Davinci Resolve that could about 1/3 stops more and avoid harsh clipping in the image.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you for the video this answers my questions without a doubt! I appreciate the real world example and not some lab test. I do have a recommendation though and that's to lesson "in my opinion" I mean anything you say is your opinion lol
Great comparison
Subbed!

6KPro FTW! 🎉 WHAT LENS YOU USED ON THAT BEAST ?
We used sigma art 50mm and 24-35mm

I have both and yes the FX3 is $1400 better.
what camera are you using inside the studio to record yourself?
i think that downloadable footage can help - the fx3 look too magenta so there is somthing wrong with the balance - also sony provide really bad luts so there are some amazing luts for better starting point like phantom lut - next time just balance the image to get the most natural image and use better lut as starting point then compare the image (blackmagic is amazing but sony can provide amazing image) also remember that you can use the lut in camera with the sony so you can get amazing rec 709 with phantom luts
what remote focus did you use for the BMPCC on the gimbal?
My machine experiences severe green bands and horizontal streaks in low light, how can I fix them
BM 🖤🎥 all day! Cinema quality imagine hands down
the FX3 is graded differently in the standalone vs the side by side
Plus when you look at the SONY lenses. They are much more expensive than EF lenses that fit BM.
Will there be a comparison of FX 30 which is also super 35 and only 1600$?
Thank you!
If you use the images of these two cameras together
Is it natural? Or are ineligible?
If we do color correction in the second half
Great video once again Brother! As you already know, I'm now all set on Canon for my bodies. But this filter system looks dope dude!! After my tripod (that I've upgraded thanks to you), you will create me some new needs 🤣! Good job man!! Take care and we'll catch up later! Deuces man!!! ✌
