It's fantastic to see another video from you! That jewelry box looks like a small treasure chest, and you made it look like a treasure! I liked the patina it had, before polishing it, but it does have a brilliant shine, after the polishing. Great job!
Nem gondoltam volna, hogy én bármikor is végignézek egy ilyen videót, de ez annyira lekötött, hogy reggelizni is elfelejtettem ! Lenyűgöző, ahogy a szemem előtt megy végbe ez az átalakulás. Irigylem a munkádat! Gyönyörű lett! Ölelés Magyarországról
have i just discovered this channel? yes. am i mesmerized? yes. 100% am i gonna sit here and watch this until i fall asleep? again, yes. all the stars!
What a lovely old box. Wonderful job giving it a new life. What's truly amazing is that the key was still with it. What was in the pretty bottle with the cork stopper? What metal is it made of? What is your best guess as to when and where it was made? Beautifully done job. Thank you for sharing.
Invest in a rotary cutter, a quilt ruler, and a self healing mat. Cuttting your fabric will be easier and more accurate. It amazes me how accurate you are with an old school ruler! Beautiful restoration !
Lovely job, as always. I couldn't guess the year of manufacture but the decoration makes me think it may be French, in the "Beaux arts" tradition. Which would suggest manufacture some time around 1870-1900, give or take (remember, still guessing). The blue patina I assume would be from copper mixed in with the silver, which makes me think it might be German silver as opposed to Sterling, which is closer to pure (97.5%, I believe). So I'm thinking French, German or possibly Swiss in origin. Again, lovely job on it.
First time watching your Channel and holy cow did that turn out beautiful I wished I had it😂 you did a great job I'm going to have to go check out some of your other Adventures in restoration!!!👍😁😁🇺🇸
Was there a reason you opted for the velvet directly onto the metal instead of replacing any of the cushioning that usually goes between the metal and the velvet? Like a problem with sourcing materials or something, or was it a design choice as it's unlikely to be used and more kept as an antique? No criticism, just curiosity about the planning process you put into what and how to restore things. Without the cushioning, there's no buffer if it's knocked off a table, which could cause some stones or pearls in jewellery to crack or break, so most older jewellery boxes have some form of cushioning layer, and well made modern ones do too, but if it's being kept as an antique on display rather than for use, the risks are lower so it wouldn't need that, so I'm wondering if that's why you didn't.
Furthermore, the original was a deep emerald green and quite likely silk brocade. If you use padding, you end up with separate rectangles that you can attach with minimal amounts of glue, which is how it was done originally. I personally feel that the use of historically accurate materials and techniques (instead of the modern synthetic velvet and glue) greatly enhances any restoration as well as value (even though this is not my main concern).
I don't plan to use the box for jewelry. But I imagined this design in my head and I wanted to bring it to life, I think it turned out very beautifully

Where do these ancient relics come from old musty barns under the sea lol whats the oldest thing youve ever restored? Great attention to detail. Watching you is like therapeutic. 😊
This box looks like it was made either in the 1920s or 1960s, when these things were fashionable, as there was a big push towards orientalism. My bet would be 1960s, since the interior was made from cheap cartboard and fabric, while earlier reproductions had a wooden inlay. It can't be older than that, because using a brass cast was not considered "cheap" before - they used carved wood with inlays, or thin walls to create them.
That was my first thought, but the fabric did not look cheap to me, it looked like a deep green silk brocade. That's why I changed my opinion to it being older. However, your remarks about it being a cast, makes me doubt yet again. I agree it looks mass produced. But not cheaply though. All things considered I'd opt for an early 20th century reproduction of circa 19th century style object.
@@YoungRestorer no problem. I often find similar items on fly markets and sometimes in trash bins. You'd be surprised, what treasures end up in rubbish. Like japanese porcelain or sterling silver utensils.
It looks like something you would buy at a import shop. Also the design looks stock so the box could have been made in the 20's or could have been made last month.
Stunning transformation, well done.

the type of fabric and gold braid were just the right touch for an excellent brass treasure restoration. nicely done!

What a beautiful box was underneath all that grime. Did you recover the pearl?
What pearl?)
At 2:10 as you lifted up the bottom of the old fabric - a real gold ball fell out. Never rusted do it’s pure gold.
@@YoungRestorerWhell... I guess not. But something round fell out. It must be somewhere on the floor

From the arsenic green cloth inside it looks like it's from 1860 to 1880.
Would be my guess too. Second half of 19th century.

Unfortunately, there is nothing interesting at the flea markets in my city, only at auctions.
What made the pink tinge on the metal? Was it under water?
Wait wait... did you take a look at the little pearl that fell out? Just curious if you found if that was real or not?
Yes, I noticed later. But it not real.
Wow!
Thanks!
Did we find out the year it was made?
People in the comments wrote that it was the second half of the 19th century.
So what year was it made?
Read the comments, many people have different opinions
I thought it was gorgeous to look at from the past! I'd keep it as it was.
I like the patina too, but the shine is even better)
Does anyone know what decade this box was made?
How do the pieces end up in that state? Is it water corrosion?
Bye bye patina Thank Heaven.
Is that brass or copper?
This is brass, maybe I slept with some other non-ferrous metal
