Maybe the model of the clock was named "Mercedes". I think it has no Relationship with the automobile brand (Missing of the Mercedes-Benz Star), or maybe it was a Gift for a woman named Mercedes (a spanish Forename) ...
I like view A better. In the video, the color on the top of the B side looks odd. I really enjoyed watching you fix the clock. That was cool and different.
Great restoration. I think view A is best as it is how the original clock would have looked (although it seems it may have been painted black - or perhaps was just very dirty). I noticed that when you had cleaned the clock mechanism there was a little bit of rust on the pinions. It may be just moisture in the air of course. But if, after cleaning with gasoline and the the soap solution, you could try immersing in IPA which will drive away any water. The movements of the old Timex watches are treated in this way as they are very difficult to take apart and re-assemble (and not normally worth the effort to try!).
I liked the video and the transformation of the clock from start to finish. Everyone has their own style on doing projects and may do this project differently from the way you did it. I like the way you did it from wood color to finish. I think you did a very job on it. I liked side A also. What's your next project?
It looks great to me! Lovely restoration but a little concerned that the clock mechanism now looks rusty? After you cleaned and dried it maybe it should have been coated in a very light thin machine oil. Cheers from Australia 🤗🇦🇺
Yes, you are absolutely right. After cleaning it, I put it under the sun to dry, but it rained during the night and it got wet and some rust was formed. I must reformed it soon❤❤❤
On pieces that are glued use clamps then wipe away excess glue. Then, dig out the cracks a little bit, and use sawdust and superglue to hide the cracks better. “A”
Was this made by the car company or does it just have the same name?? I've never heard of this brand. I did google it and the ones they made in the 30's look a lot more beautiful than this plan looking one Plus they were all a lot bigger then this one It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!! I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
I remember taking an old clock and taking it apart when I was ten years old. I'm hoping to break into Horology, and have some fun doing. Amateur that I am.
Good job. Just be careful in dealing with the parts. And i suggest no need to wash with soap or dishwashing liquid on the mechanical parts. Gasoline is enough for cleaning. Finally I admire the extensive process of painting on the wooden frame. Overall great work.
I got to be honest, the gears still need a solid cleaning to clear all the rust out, and the balance wheel sounds out of beat. If you hear "tuh-tick tuh-tick" instead of "tick tick tick tick" then the balance spring needs to be adjusted.
@Unique_restorations that's all good. Cosmetically the clock looks superb. When it comes to clock mechanism, if they don't work after a clean and an oil then it means the clock needs to be dealt with further but it's not hard after once or twice and if it's broken you can't make it more broken so it's practice anyway. The things that can go wrong are - Worn balance Arbor/cups. The balance wheel points need to be even and the cups they run in as well; - Worn pivot holes, which can be repaired with a process called "bushing", where you ream out the material until its concentric to the centre of the axle's position and then replace the material with a bush to fill it back in. It's not as hard as it sounds with a set of clock reamers. - If the axles on the clock gears are dirty or not polished then they will wear away the brass faster and not run as well - finally, and this is to anyone reading this, always use a clock specific oil. A generic one will do it but pros have like fifty different oils depending on the type of clock. 3in1 evaporates and leaves a sticky residue behind that digs at the brass. - sometimes you'll find snapped springs, broken or worn teeth. In American clocks, or the HAC clocks the lantern pinions can wear down as well. If you need to replace the spring you can sometimes find guides but you will definitely find replacements. And balance springs are a dime a dozen but you'll need it to be shaped the same way as the old one or it will never keep time. Good luck!
So you googled for a 8mm glass, found a 13cm glass on Ebay and ordered it, and then received a 8cm glass from a children's clothing webshop in Iran? Also the inside of the clock is all rusty. This clock will stop working at any time soon. You should use clamps when you glue the wood. The A side was more classy, but for me personally I would never have a gold clock in my house. Looking forward to your upcoming videos and see you become better and better! Thank you for the video!
Thank you for the comment and it is clear that you paid a lot of attention, for which I appreciate you. What I showed on Google did not actually happen and after a few more searches, I found it because the video was getting too long, so I deleted it in relation to the friend clip. I am trying not to do repetitive work to make it more attractive for the viewer. Regarding the rust, unfortunately it rained on the engine the night before and caused it to get wet and rust. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to clean it again, but I had to do it.🌹
The interesting texture you was scarping off is the old veneer. If you’re truly wanting to not compromise the originality of the piece. You’d look at them under a microscope or take them to a veneer shop to observe them & tell you the type of veneer used. I know this because I work with veneer in my art shop. Pickling electrolysis or an ultrasonic cleaner would have been was less harsh on the clock gear house.
Friends, do you think there is a connection between the Mercedes brand, the old German clock making, and the Mercedes automobile industry?🤔

@@AVerdi-bc1hn ich bin aus frankfurt👋🏻
There would be svastikas on it if it was connected to the automotive brand
@ 😂 no. Why? Mercedes Benz was and is a private company. So no swastikas.
I’m glad you kept the original wood.

You should have used dowels to help stiffen the broken framework.
Good offer 👍 👏
A looks like the better side.
Me too👌

Thank you kindly👌🌹

I prefer B because the break is barely visible. In A it is obvious.
What a subtle point❤🤠
