I see on your video you leave the carbon fibre 'hanging' over the edges of the trim piece and then cut the excess off with a knife whereas on other videos I have seen they tuck the cloth underneath the trim piece and tape it and then cut it off with a knife or Dremel like tool. How essential is the gel coat to your projects? Can it be skipped most of the time, or maybe use resin instead?
    Do you ever bake your carbon or just let it dry at room temp.
    Do you clear coat the parts or always use uv resin as top layer?

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 года назад +3

      Hello, Buddy~
      The gelcoat is very important in carbon fiber skinning.
      In carbon fiber skinning, It can attachment replace to epoxy resins or spray adhesives.
      But, The black gelcoat can cover the surface of the parts in black.
      If the base color of the parts is not black or darkness color, the base color may look fine after carbon fiber skinning.
      Also, the gelcoat is very strong.
      The finish of the surface uses epoxy resin topcoat or clear car spray.
      I think the best surface finish is the epoxy resin topcoat.
      Because epoxy resins make a stronger surface than clear sprays.
      I hope you helpful.

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 года назад +1

      Hello, Buddy!
      When skinning, carbon fiber uses one layer.
      It is very thin and is approximately 0.3-0.5 mm thick.
      It's just skinning, so it doesn't care about thickness, weight, and stiffness.

      Hello, Buddy!
      I bought materials from a Korean online shop.
      However, Korean online shops do not ship overseas.
      So I'm going to show you an online shop in the UK.
      Maybe you can find what you want.
      Also, if you want skinning, I recommend 240g carbon fiber cloth.

    im curious how well the epoxy bonds to the plastic surfaces, especially considering these are areas that get handled often.

      Hello, Buddy!
      When skinning carbon fiber, it is important to scratch the surface of the plastic parts by using very rough sandpaper.
      The gel coat is absorbed by the strong scratches and helps to firmly attach the carbon fiber cloth.

      hi,I recommend that the surface needs sandblasting at least ,Because the black glue is difficult to adhere at the chrome surface。
      Sanding with sandpaper does‘t achieve sufficient roughness
