    I appreciate showing the fail and what contributing factors there may have been. Too many people don't appreciate that failure is part of success. Particularly during the learning process. Good job.

    Just a bit of advise, a tack clothe works better when it’s fully opened and then lightly balled up, helps activate the adhesive in it. Also when sanding with high grit paper you should use wet, avoids the paper clogging up and causing pig tail scratches in your finish which can show up after polishing since it’s basically gouging into your topcoat.

    As a fan of simple tools that make life easier, I think you would benefit from a few different sizes of 'notched' adhesive spreaders, for your gel coat. The notches are small and when the correct size is selected, it'll let you spread the gelcoat around a large area while leaving the right amount behind. This'll let you get the coating over the whole area quicker and prevent extra work needed to fix thin/thick pots.

    I think you could make this a lot easier if you wetted the carbon fiber all the way through at first and then used a perforated film with a breather layer under vacuum to get all the excess resin out. Then just quick sanding and you got a nice even surface without these darker spots

    I really like your simple videos, no narration or music. Next time you want a mirror finish on a flat surface just use glass and then bond your laminate to the MDF board.

    • @kramer26
      @kramer26 4 года назад

      Or do as you say and lay up on the glass, then add the baseboard and wrap the carbon around it... It's how I would do it, and would use a clear gelcoat or initial layer of epoxy with lightweight glassfibre before laying in the carbon.

    You should never have used gelcoat, instead a thin layer of epoxy to establish the wood surface. Once cured you then place the carbon cloth wet and align the weave.

    If I was to make the same thing I would do one the methods some the companies use to make flat sheats and use a sheet of glass or 2 to keep it truly flat and no MDF so it's just carbon.
    And use carbon tubes for the legs and or aluminum.

      @@ECOLAPStudio 저희는 대기업 및 한국탄소융합기술원 같이 대량생산이 필요한 곳에 맞춰 연구하다보니 개발이 완료되었습니다 ㅎㅎ 또한 아시다시피 클리어 코팅 수지로 코팅하시면 광택도 광택이지만 작업이 한번에 끝나는 것이 아닌 황변이 너무 심하며 충격에 왔을때 크랙이 온다는 점이 문제점입니다. 우레탄 클리어는 uv차단효과와 황변억제가 되어있으며 깨지지않는다는 장점이 있죠 ㅎㅎ 아시다시피 우레탄 도색을 올리고 싶어도 올리기 어려운게 현상황입니다.
      그러다보니 3년동안 연구해서 도막을 형성해주는 특수 물질을 개발하였고 아마 우레탄 도색과 같은 클리어 페인트로 마감 되신다면 굉장히 편한 작업성을 느끼실 겁니다 ㅎㅎ 아직판매는 안하고있구요 저도 유튜버님처럼 열정을 가지고 탄소섬유 제작하시는 분들을 응원해드리고 싶습니다 ㅎㅎ xlfkshek1004@naver.com으로 연락주시면 재밌는 이야기 많이 나눠볼 수 있을 것 같습니다

    Great channel, just subscribed. I understand that you had too much gelcoat the first time. But why did you even bother putting on gelcoat? Couldn't you just have put epoxy resin on top?

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 года назад +5

      Hello, Buddy!
      It could also work with epoxy resin.
      However, it is recommended to use a gelcoat.
      There are several reasons to use a gelcoat.
      First, the gel coat is very viscous and does not flow down.
      And, the base color of the parts can be covered with black epoxy gelcoat.
      I hope you helpful.
      Thank you for watching.

      Knudsen Allan yes your right, it’s cheaper just to make your own “Gel Coat” or thicker resin. He could’ve added black pigment to the resin. And to thicken it a bit also he could’ve added glass microspheres to it. It’s pretty much the same instead of spending extra money surface coat

    I would make it other way. Take a glass as a base. Lay epoxy, then carbon. Use roller to remove bubbles. Then put board on top and vacuum it. You should get nice clean surface.

      안녕하세요.
      지나치게 많은 에폭시 겔코트의 양과 경화시간을 너무 짧게 가져가서 겔코트가 카본 원단 사이로 삐져나왔습니다.
      그래서 겔코트 얼룩이 심하게 남게 되었습니다.

    Regarding those 152mm abrasive discs you used with the deWalt sander, which brand do you use? I recently switched over to Kovax which have better value for money than Norton.

      Hello, Buddy!
      The sandpaper (for dewalt) I use is from Korea.
      It's a brand called HANKO, but I don't have any exact information about it.
      Hand sanding uses SIA.
      SIA sandpaper is very good.

      Hi, buddy!

      Please watch this video. This url is working on carbon fiber interior.
      In carbon skinning, it is very important to apply epoxy resin and leveling the surface.
      You have to apply epoxy resin many times.
      When leveling the surface, be careful not to damage the carbon fiber cloth.
      I hope you can make a good carbon fiber parts.
      If you have question, please reply.
      Thank you for watching. ^^

    How do you keep it dust free when top layer resin is drying?

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 года назад +2

      Hello, Buddy!
      Small parts are top-coated and covered with a box.
      However, for larger parts, apply several top coats and polish after leveling.
      Large parts are difficult to avoid dust.

      You don’t. For large items if you’re doing this at home you take 1000 grit to remove dust nibs just as you would if you’re painting a car in your garage dust and bugs will typically land on the clear coat while it dries

    영상처럼 경질타입 에폭시는 샌딩 폴리싱이 가능한데
    연질타입 에폭시는 샌딩 폴리싱이 안먹나요? 연질을 쓰실일은 없겠지만 혹시나 알고계실까 해서 여쭤봅니다..
    연질 에폭시 제품을 샌딩2천방,폴리싱3800방 했는데도 버프후 샌딩후의 허옇게 뜬 에폭시만 남고 광택이 일절 살아나질 않습니다..

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 года назад +1

      안녕하세요!
      연질 에폭시는 써보진 않았지만 아마 광택내기가 쉽지 않을겁니다.
      폴리싱이라는 자체가 미세하게 면을 연마하는건데 연질이라면 연마가 안되고 밀려버리는 문제가 생길 것으로 사료됩니다.
      제 생각에는 광택기 속도를 최소한으로 낮추시고 해보시기 바랍니다.
      또한 면이 얼마나 큰지 모르겠지만 면이 아주 큰게 아니라면 에폭시 바르실 때 주변에 먼지 없애시고 에폭시에 기포 없애시고 에폭시 바르고 다시 토치로 기포 없애고 먼지 안 들어가게 차단하시면 후작업이 불필요할 정도의 깨끗한 면이 나올겁니다.

      밀린다는 말씀이 뭔지 알거같네요..
      물 핸드샌딩에 핸드폴리싱 해봐야겠네요.. 언제나 감사드립니다 ..^^ 경질은 후가공이 용이하다면 연질은 후가공이 안좋기때문에 여러가지방법으로 시도중이네요..ㅠㅠ
      경화 전, 표면에 먼지 앉는것도 문제네요..ㅠ 바닥에 물이라도 뿌려야 할까봐요..ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

    • @ECOLAPStudio
      @ECOLAPStudio  4 года назад

      폴리싱 전에 샌딩은 반드시 수샌딩을 꼼꼼하게 해주세요.
      샌딩을 꼼꼼하게 잘하면 폴리싱 작업시간이 현저하게 줄어듭니다.
      에폭시 바르실 때 정 안되면 화장실에서 주변에 물을 뿌려서 먼지를 최대한 가라앉게 하고 에폭시 바르시고 박스 등으로 먼지가 안 들어가게 막아주세요.
      그럼 훨씬 나은 결과물이 나올겁니다~^^
