Spoke with Brittney earlier today about doing some carbon work on a custom grille for my F150. I can’t wait to stop by your shop and see what you can do for me. I like how you’re very informative about the process.
Gorgeous! The final clearcoat shine minus any dust nibs AND orange peel almost looks better than true CF while being significantly cost advantageous to the vehicle owner. Beautiful work!
Yes this is why we really like the hydrographics as it can sometimes make parts that are not suitable for real carbon molds look like carbon and still get a perfect high gloss or even satin finish!

You might say I have a dumb question but can you Hydro dip a metal grill in carbon fiber ? Might want to do it on my '72 GMC. Look at pic if you need to.
Good work looks goods. Quick question I want to try this on some trim pieces, the color is already a charcoal gray, would you recommend to sand or any prep work before applying the hydro dip?
Yes we certainly can! You can power wash the fenders afterwards but you certainly have to be careful as almost any coating that is hit with a power washer at the right angle can certainly flake off.
Hiya can you tell me if you have brand new black plastic panels do you still have to primer and paint them before dipping and if I need to use primer what color should I use for a black carbon fibre
In most cases yes! There is some plastic you can dip directly to but for most interior pieces this is not the case. For primer we use our grey epoxy primer and then apply a charcoal base to get the most realistic carbon once dipped.

You want the film to sit on the water for 1 minute to allow the film to start to break down so it can be stretched correctly and not break away or tear when trying to dip. After you dip the part, you can rinse it right afterwards or you can wait a few hours, it wont hurt it either way.
It all depends on the parts and exactly what you want done. If you would like, send us an email with the parts your wanting done and we can get you a quote on them. Our email is info@liquidconcepts.com
Going from the dipped portion to the clear coat we do NOT sand the part at all. After the part is clear coated we may wet-sand (or dry sand) the part and either buff out any spots we may have or re-clear the part if needed.
Iv totally enjoy your video. What I like to know is, how do I get hold of carbon fibre sheets with the one you used in the video? As I'd like to do my white wing mirrors using the same stuff. Hi Barry the carbon in this video is our Realistic Carbon Fiber. I have included a link for you below. For the film to work properly you also need the hydrographic activator (this is what I sprayed over the film in the water). We keep and recommend 80-90 degrees for the water temp. What if you make say a carbon fiber intake charge pipe, so the inside of the pipe is smooth and the outside is rough. Could you dip it like this and have the outside come out shiny and smooth(er)?
Yes its possible but you will have to smooth out the outside before the dip or the carbon wont look that great and you will have a rough clear coat finish if its not sanded smooth.
Changing the water versus depending on how often you are dipping. We typically change ours every 3-4 weeks but sometimes we push it a little longer. The activator is use to liquify the film so that you can then dip it and it embeds itself into the paint.

Because this process is just like a cars finish, it will last for years and years to come and it will be permanent. I am not sure as economical as every place has their own set pricing for certain items.
