@@thundertiger76 I never tape four sides.. when I first started I did and learned quickly that it was a bad idea.. film needs to expand and tape will not let it expand.. I do try not to use tape at all though if I can get away with it... I like your idea about cutting the edges and I’m gonna try that on custom film next time I do some and see if that helps... it’s kinda like that kryptek film... keep those videos coming... we can always learn more...
Reason 1 and 3 are the same lol. As someone that understands physics, you can absolutely make the hydrofilm flat with tape, unless your a dizzy 5 year old. Reason 2 makes perfect sense and doesn't need 1 and 3 to sell me on the idea. Still best video I've seen on the topic 👍
I was always wondering why my ones came out better without taping the sides. I thought i was doing something wrong because every video i watched, people would tape down the sides, but i stopped doing that because it worked better without it. This video was very helpful, thankyou.

So i live in southwest Florida and we have well water where im at and in our wells we have high deposits of different minerals high iron levels and such. Would i be recommended to use distilled or purified,or does it not matter? Great videos by the way 👍 very informative and right to the point.
Three years later and this shows up in my recommended. I'm actually surprised people though taping at all would work. Water does what it wants to what's put in it. Not very many things can counter that. Trick is to get it to work for you. But I did learn one thing. The side that sticks to your finger is the side that gets set down on the water.
Which side goes up on the water? Using the wet finger method to determine the sides of the dip - you say to put the sticky side down on the water. I believe you but can you explain why? This is the side that, when you dip, will be on the outside of the object. It logically seems like you should put the sticky side up so it sticks to the object you are dipping. Again, I believe you but can you explain why it’s not sticky (I’m assuming it’s not) after you dip the object?
There is 2 sides to the film. One side dissolves in water, the other side needs activator to dissolve. The reason I wet my finger and figure out which side becomes sticky is I want to figure out which side dissolves in water. So the wet finger makes the film sticky because it is partially dissolved. That side goes down in the water.
Great vid...thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and tips/tricks...I recently got some dipping work done on some interior trim pieces on my G8 in Carbon but I'm not happy with the end result...got a heap of excuses, so thought "I can do a better job"...gonna give it a try, subbed aswell, cheers from Aus👍🍻🇦🇺

The reason some roll up more than others is due to how tight they are rolled up for storage. Your mable is in a very large roll and your cryptech is so tightly rolled. The material will eventually get used to being in that state. Ive fixed this issue by flattening out the sheet i want to dip with and letting it set flat for about 30-40 mins before hitting the water.

I do not dip shoes... too much of a pain and they do not last.
Have you tried reverse rolling the Cryptech for storage ? Or is That a bad idea?
Can you cover my Plastic 1966 Charger Steering wheel in woodgrain?
email for a quote and include pictures. chris@atfhydrographics.com
Is it necessary to use the activator spray
Yes
thanks Boss!!! all those mistakes that you have mentioned are the things that I usually do. what an enlightenment
Every year seems to have advancement in product useage. Why not hyrdrodipping film too? You are dah MASTER!
Who knows... probably because some people are all about maximizing profit and that causes them to use cheapo or crap materials. So unfortunately I have to figure out how to make them work.
Can I use any printer with stock ink to print on these hydrographic films? If so will the regular stock ink stay permanently on whatever item I hydro dip or will it peel off or fade or stain to the touch?
is it possible to print in cylindrical objects ?
Just came across your channel, I’m starting very soon to try some hydro dipping. Great video, very informative and easy to follow. Love the outtakes 😆
Subscribed and will be learning a lot from you
Thanks for the sub boom, glad to have you. Many more videos on the way
@@AllThingsFunHydrographics I will stay tuned 👍🏼

Glad to help, appreciate you checking out the video.

I wish I would have seen your video sooner when I tried hydro dip on a rc body for the first time.
I guess I made a lot of mistakes.
Great vid and thanks for sharing.
Keep practicing Chris, it is one of those hobbies that unfortunately can be frustrating but keep at it and you will get it. I failed hundreds of times before getting the hang of it.

Thank you for your encouraging words💪🏼👍🏻
@@chriscrashrc2982 No problem, good luck and remember it is perfectly acceptable to have bad dips, throw stuff, cuss a lot, and then practice more later on. LOL Sad but true, I still do it from time to time.
@@chriscrashrc2982 hey man how did you get the dip to stick to the body? I’m fixing to do the panels to a dbxl. Sadly the panels come preprinted so I’m having to dip the outside of the panels instead of the inside. Since the panels are lexan I sprayed them with bonding primer.
@@AllThingsFunHydrographics by any chance do you have any tips for lexan plastic.
What is the best film and activator.
None of them... they all work just fine and you need different films for different activators.
