That... That is not even acting. I don't see Michael Emerson, like at all. The only thing I see is Harold Finch getting ready to murder Samaritan in the cruelest way possible after witnessing the deaths of Elias and Root. This scene is so perfect!
Definitely more chilling. W.W was on a downward spiral of morality from episode 1. The show is called breaking bad, it's all about that spiral. Finch on the other hand was uncompromising with his morals. The only time he faltered was when his wife was in danger but even then he morals remained uncompromised. He refused to bend even when options were limited and it cost them dearly. it took 4 and half seasons, the knowledge he did this to himself, and the loss of some of his closest friends to finally push him over the edge.
I never thought that PoI could top "The Devil's Share" until I saw this episode. If this show had been on cable or Netflix rather than CBS it would have won so many awards that Reese and Shaw would never have run out of weapons.

So true! This man is a MASTER of line delivery. Michael usually has a higher, thinner-sounding voice for a male, but GOSH, when it gets all deep and gravelly like that, he sounds so powerful, almost ancient. There are chills, many chills.

Ever since Samaritan was introduced, we've seen Finch and the Machine lose battle after battle because they've always been fighting with one hand tied behind their back. Now we're finally going to see Finch use the full extent of his capabilities to fight back. I actually feel pity for Samaritan.
I wouldn't call this full power of Harold, not even close. The would can't handle such a thing, and he knows that. And I believe he also regrets not using all of his power on the last scene when Metamorphosis was playing a missile was heading to Reese

At the end, when she called Reese, I can sense something like this: Root as The Machine: Hey kids, I'm afraid that I have some bad news and some terrible bad news. That alone is extremely rare in tv shows or even good movies. But when you add all that together, you get bet speech that exists in tv shows.
I've watched so many shows, so many great actors. This is the best acting I have ever seen on tv. Emerson is amazing, and this is him at his very best.
Not even completely out of bounds, he emphasize that he is trying to decide how far he is willing to go. I believe this is just a fraction of his capabilities
With Root’s death this is when Finch realized that to beat the Samaritan, he has to make bigger sacrifices, they could no longer play it safe. Great performance.
Just finished watching reruns. This is probably the best monologue ever done. The scene gave me chills you hear the sorrow for his friends, the anguish of trying to do the right thing, the horror of giving up his principals and the finality of his solution. Personally if I was sitting in the room with him I'd gotten the hell out of there.
I remember seeing this scene 1st time and gave me millions of goosebumps and i get the same amount of goosebumps every single time i see it. The sheer power behind those words... Its a Promise. I haven't witnessed such amount of feelings with any other scene. This is A Masterpiece. Love it to the Core. ❤❤❤
The speech is great but when Finch answers the phone, and he thinks it is root and The Machine goes " No Harold, I chose a voice" just as chilling as Finch's speech. Also the look on Fusco's face when he sees Root lying there. He might not have liked Root but he didn't want her to die.
This show was not what we have come to expect from network tv. Brilliantly written with a tight narrative and direction. A thinking persons experience to bring up vast questions about the future. We will not see it's like again anytime soon.
This is by far my FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME! And this scene is the best of The Whole Series! Michael Emerson absolutely killed it in this scene!! And the whole series for that matter!! I will NEVER UNDERSTAND how this show never got the Recognition it absolute deserves! GREATEST SHOW ON TELEVISION!
This scene, Harold telling Samaritan that the gloves are off, put a lump in my throat. It reminded me that Harold was the most dangerous one of the entire show. John was the muscle and hands of the machine, Same with Shaw, doing what the machine could not, to help people. Root was the voice of the machine. But Harold, had he wanted, could have installed himself as a god on Earth using the machine. He was his own arbiter of right and wrong and took great pains to make sure he did right. We saw a glimpse of what the gloves off looks like when before trading himself for Grace, on her doorstep, what he told John and Shaw. Great scene, great show!
One of the best - and saddest - moments of the entire series when Finch takes the phone call and The Machine tells him that it took a voice...and at that instant he realises that Root didn't make it :-(
" I've played by the rules for so long, ... Your rules have changed everytime it was convenient for you... I was talking about my own rules, I've lived by those rules for so long, believed them for so long... Believed that if I keep on playing By the right rules I will eventually win... But I was Wrong, wasn't I? ... I have to decide how many of my rules I'm willing to break... " These line ...
This scene is amazing. It's like watching metamorphosis or something. Like watching butterfly getting out of its cocon, but what is getting out isn't butterfly, but something much more dangerous. Something with many legs that reminds me Praying Mantis. Something you don't want to target you.
“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.” ― Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear
I love this scene for almost two and a half seasons we have been hearing how much of a threat finch is to Samaritan... And after this!?!?! It's nice to finally see him pushed just too much too far! Go FINCH!!!

How can this show not be all Over the place???? Have we lost depth as a society? We only reward which is 'fun' Or 'popular' Or 'famous'. Such pieces of art and scences of true depiction of a core moral dilemma of humanity, are unrecognized nowadays. I mean I think I didn't get the memo when we became frivolous!
P.S. The beast within berserker rage is realised
It's sad this amazing show is coming to an end. The use of perfect songs like The Day the Whole World Went Away for this episode and Roads in Episode 2 of Season 4 is genius.
“I listened to the words he said, but in his voice I heard decay. The plastic face forced to portray, the insides left cold and grey. there is a place that still remains, it eats the fear it eats the pain. The sweetest price you have to pay. The day the whole world went away”.

Fantastic performance. We were waiting for this. Finch without bounds.
Dear Samaritan, you are done.
Not even completely out of bounds, he emphasize that he is trying to decide how far he is willing to go. I believe this is just a fraction of his capabilities

One of the best Shows ever created. Wonderful cast, great acting, so thrilling, now I have it on Blu ray and rewatching and enjoying every episode.
"No, Harold... I chose a voice." All the damn feels 😭
The moment he realizes, his anger just reflects to his response * can you get me out of here *
With Root’s death this is when Finch realized that to beat the Samaritan, he has to make bigger sacrifices, they could no longer play it safe. Great performance.
The beauty of this is there's a bunch of clues scattered across the shows run about what would happen if Finch ever went off the chain
And we were able to see all the stuff that had let him in this point (from the moment they kidnap Grace to the moment they have shot Root).
Fantastic acting of Michael Emerson, very powerfull scene! Could watch it again and again
After more than 6 years this scene still gives me goosebumps!
@3:50 that's where men cried
mattwing05 yesss
The speech is great but when Finch answers the phone, and he thinks it is root and The Machine goes " No Harold, I chose a voice" just as chilling as Finch's speech.
Also the look on Fusco's face when he sees Root lying there. He might not have liked Root but he didn't want her to die.
I think Root grew on Fusco. (He called her Cocoa Puffs at first, LOL.)
This show was not what we have come to expect from network tv. Brilliantly written with a tight narrative and direction. A thinking persons experience to bring up vast questions about the future. We will not see it's like again anytime soon.

2021, and this scene still sends shivers down the spine. Amazing.
Particularly poignant…..especially now…as we are on the precipice of total digital control via a centralizing currency
If they hurt Grace in anyway… kill them all
Fantastic scene, I'm going to miss this show so much x
One of the best - and saddest - moments of the entire series when Finch takes the phone call and The Machine tells him that it took a voice...and at that instant he realises that Root didn't make it :-(
:-(
"And we will be gone without a trace". Amazing.

Someone give this man an Emmy. Please.
They didn't even nominate him
i cant stop watching this scene
This is the moment Harold became Ben Linus
the moment, finch declares WAR you know it's not going to end well .
Found it. My favorite scene in the entire series. Finch loses it to unleash hell

This scene is amazing. It's like watching metamorphosis or something. Like watching butterfly getting out of its cocon, but what is getting out isn't butterfly, but something much more dangerous. Something with many legs that reminds me Praying Mantis. Something you don't want to target you.
“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
― Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear
"Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have SO. MANY."
@@spdcrzy Excellent scene!!!!
I love this scene for almost two and a half seasons we have been hearing how much of a threat finch is to Samaritan... And after this!?!?! It's nice to finally see him pushed just too much too far! Go FINCH!!!
when a man like finch decides to toss out the rule book, you should be terrified
"I chose a voice." -- The machine always made me cry so hard. Such an intelligent show, shame they got rid of it.
Breaking one promise
To keep a greater one.
so freaking best acting ever, goosebumps every time i see.tHANKKSSSSS!!!!!!!!
''So now I have to decide. Decide whether to let my friends die, to let hope die, to let the world be ground under your heel all because I played by my rules'' THIS PARTS IS SIMPLY EPIC.
This is not one of the best scenes that have ever aired on TV, it is the best scene. Micheal Emerson is just an amazing actor / genius, and the last head shake by Jim Caviezel is just perfect. Just perfect

Emerson did so great here. Him and Spader for Raymond Reddington are amazing.
Nothing I’ve watched to date even comes close to this show.
Elias did say that deep down, Harold was the darkest of them all...
Just listening to this....ahhh, rage of a silent man!!!!! Worst rage ever! Because you don't know what to expect

Everytime I need a jolt of motivation, I watch this clip. I know, it's kinda strange 😁
Do you think he knew (Mr. FBI) or at least had his suspicions that Harold wasn't crazy when Harold looked at the camera?
I don't think so, he had an empty look on his face. He simply wasn't able to comprehend thid monologue
He knew something was up... but he probably didn't have an inkling of the scope that conversation had.
Yep it should be.especially with tech, power and the wrong handsbeing a prominent topic.

goosebumps everywhere 👏.👏.👏
In my head, I'm screaming please be a dream sequence or a machine scenario. Please don't take Root away.
I was bawling during that episode when Elias and Root were both killed.
hearing, "no Harold, i chose a voice" still to this day makes my feeling things ;( #TheFeels
the way he said"can you get me out of it"
It is same anger he had when he said *to get it done*
Lawful Good pushed to the wall
I would hes more neutral good than lawful good. Possibly chaotic good
I LOVE when that big chord falls at the end- AWESOME!
P.S. The beast within berserker rage is realised
Elias : " you are the darkest of all of us "
It's sad this amazing show is coming to an end.

Looking at finch eyes u can see the pain there is inside of that man , fucking dope scene
The goosebumps. Sad the show ended soon.

What a great episode of television this is
One of the best scenes! I have watched it so many times that I don't even recall count.
Michael Emerson's performance is beyond brilliance.
The scene's brilliance is conveyed by Michael Emerson's performance and the music of Nine Inch Nails in the end!
Awesome 🙂
