That's actually an articulated dummy, like a 90 pound ragdoll, used if people fall from buildings, cars, trains etc. Usually replaced by an actor after a cut. MUCH cheaper than a stuntman
The only time was when there was a fire in the subway when Finch was trying to revive the Machine. Around them, it was the only anxiety-producing moment for Bear.
Bear just fits with the group. Broken people with high skills, a sordid past, etc. Reese basically asks the dog: 'Wanna come with us?' Bear says:'hell yeah!' and Finch gets an extra bodyguard.

This also happend in south park (and other shows were they mix German and dutch Im dutch and i had 3 years of german and have a German GF.

I can’t believe that the first time I saw this I had to play it over a few times! I thought Reese was saying “like I told you I sold shi_” , not “like I told your associate” I just could not get it!
It's like when you're ready to crack open a bottle of pop, but then you drop it, and it bounces a couple times and rolls across the floor. You put that bottle back in the fridge and grab a different one, because you know exactly what will happen the moment you take that cap off, and you know it won't be anything good.
When Reese turned around and whistled for Bear, it made me so happy. I was so excited they were going to include him in the show. I think in a story, if it's appropriate and it's done right, adding a dog can humanize the characters and give many people in the audience something to relate to. (ie, Reese may be an epic badass, but he loves doggos just like I do.) The writers did a good job working Bear into the show, and giving him a personality, but in a realistic way, so he's not just some random dog that's always there, but he's also not anthropomorphized. The scenes with Bear also added some humor to the show. They were already good at balancing the edge-of-your-seat intense-ness with the humor, but I think Bear helped with that. Overall, this is one of those rare cases where adding a dog to the show wasn't pointless, and they didn't just sort of mention that oh yeah, the main character has a dog now and then never show the dog again, but they actually wrote the dog into the show as a character.

I guess Finch might have also felt anxious because he had had to let go of his love and then growing fond of not only Reese but also Bear probably brought back those fears that if he gets too attached to these two new friends, he might have to lose them too at some point. And how many people want to lose those they care about not once but twice?
POI did it right when they introduced a dog into the show. The Last Ship introduced a military dog named Halsey in the pilot episode but wasn't used very much throughout the series.
That and the way bear just took to Shaw when she joins up and the little tease at the end of the series that Shaw, Bear and Root keep doing the work set by Finch and Reese. One of my favorite shows from start to finish.

It was criminal the way Hollywood blackballed him for years after The Passion, right at the height of his career. This was a great way for him to come back to work (yes he did a couple movies in between but I doubt many people could name any without hitting imdb first). When the Game Stands Tall is a *pretty good* football movie (I have a hard time putting it up against Remember the Titans, The Blind Side, Rudy, freaking *Brian's Song* ) but having Jim Caviezel and Michael Chicklis in it together was more than enough to add it immediately to my collection.

He used 4 commands that are normal Dutch words Foei: Bad, Bad dog, unwanted behaviour Stil: Keep quite, shut up, no more sound Afliggen: Actualy 2 words not 1. Af and Liggen can have multiple meaning but in context of this scene Af = back down, stand down and Liggen = lay down All 4 words are perfect normal Dutch words to use when dealing with dogs. First he uses Foei to tell the dog his behaviour is unwanted. Stil to get the dog to stop barking. Af to command the dog to stand down and Liggen to get the dog in a horzontal position down on the floor.

This was the first episode I ever watched. I was flying for only the 2nd time ever, first time at night overseas and was scared shitless. Once Bear appeared it helped settle my nerves, SUCHHH a beautiful creature 🐻
i wish so badly they would have added 1 or 2 seasons more of them fighting crime before they focused mainly on the war of the machines! this series was still kick ass hehe :)!!

This was the first episode I ever watched. I was flying for only the 2nd time ever, first time at night overseas and was scared shitless. Once Bear appeared it helped settle my nerves, SUCHHH a beautiful creature 🐻

yeah except his commands sound far from dutch; more like a combo of dutch/german. couldnt even understand the first thing he said to the dog

Lightingwarrior no the line itself is solid its just the pronounciation that makes me cringe. in friends there was also an episode in wich some of them have to speak a couple of lines of dutch and it sounds good , for an american anyway but this.... i thought they have dialect coaches on shows like this
