He literally tore her down, destroyed her way of thinking and showed her the truth. All while insulting her, her job and her self righteousness. You can see Control is scared, every move and counter argument was prepared for. At the end she finally realized it, Harold used her and Samaritan to get what he wanted. Only because she was in "the dark", she couldn't foresee Harold or be prepared for the truth. Harold is the ultimate clap back king
Harold is so amazing… Reese and Shaw may be the trained assassins, and root my be the voice of the Machine, but when Harold decided to get personally involved… he is the one to watch out for.
That Control recognized her danger when Finch showed up & she called for help, right that minute, power and danger recognizes bigger danger. He tells her truths she does not know. Micheal Emerson & Camryn Manheim are freaking scary and so damn true
And even then she needed a lecture by Greer, just before she was ended. Foolish was not the correct word. Some people simply have a mean streak. She was one of them. Blaming everyone else for their own mistakes. It's quite common.
I've only seen Finch use the amount of contempt in his tone from 3:05 onwards to 1...maybe 2 beings. 1 being Samartin after (spoiler alert) Roots death, and 2 possibly being the dude that was "The Voice"...and we know what became of them.
Well, those two have acted together before. She was Eleanor Frutt on "The Practice" and he played the serial killer William Hinks. She didn't have a whole lot of scenes with him. I remember she was only in maybe one scene with him, where he was threatening Lindsey Dole and the secretary, Lucy. I bet those two never thought they'd act in another show together after "The Practice" ended and he went to be Ben Linus on "LOST."
The body language and the facial expressions in this scene are top notch. Root was ready right there to finish off Control because of what Control did to her and what she may have had to do with Shaw, but when Finch stops her, the look on her face at :28 to :30 speaks volumes, as if she might even turn on him at that point. And the way Finch leans in at :57 as his eyes are practically boring into Control, trying as hard has he can to reason with her and then finally cutting her down to size...every word and look are perfect here.
Finch eviscerates Control without ever using physical force or violence or intimidation. He simply let her know she is but a child playing with her jumping jacks sitting at the table with a grandmaster chess champion.
And it was ALL a ploy to lure her team, one or more of whom are linked into to Samaritan's network. She was just bait! The mental body slam by Harold was just gravy. You see, while Root can inflict some physical damage...that heals and maybe even further entrenches Control against Team Machine. But Harold's masterful unraveling of Control, her purpose, her mission, her worth, her imagined importance...that completely erodes her will. She is now incapable of trusting her own team, or taking stock in any mission Samaritan gives her...after all...is she just being cast as the janitor again!
I think the opposite - Finch did believe she was dead and he was somewhat angry Reese and Root wanted to find her. In the shop he runs, bullets always won over words and he knew it.
Finch is amazing and he was right to say that Control controls nothing and is a foolish woman. She's all on being a patriot and not selling her country out and she did just that to Greer. I would have told Greer to go back to his country and ruin it before deciding to come over here and ruin ours.
She rendered herself obsolete while draping herself in patriotic fervor and bureaucratic superiority. Finch merely opened her eyes to her own ignorance.
It really was a waste, but they were being rushed to end the show so I see why they did it, I think they intended to make her an ally eventually but they had to tie up as many loose ends as they good at season 4.
@@Ghost-Mom I don't think she could ever be an ally - unlike the other redemption arcs, she had killed a huge number of known innocents. I can imagine a sort of grudging cooperation, likely ending with her death
@@rhas356 Yes, she killed tons of people but she thought it was for her country. She made hard decisions at least that's what she told herself. and yes she was corrupted by her power but I do think deep down she cared about her country. She was coming around after finch talked sense into her, becoming suspicious. If Greer hadn't outplayed her I do believe she would have teamed up with team machine in s5, at least temporarily. Keep in mind other people in team machine also killed tons of people but many of them didn't even do it because they thought it was 'the right thing' they did it because they were fucks. Root, Fusco, Shaw. Reese.
Have you seen the show? He plants the seed here, and she becomes increasingly aware of the corruption he was speaking of throughout the rest of the season.
I just realized, the reason Finch deadnames Root is not because he disrespects her but because he abhors what her chosen name stands for ... in Unix 'root' is a sign of absolute power, more so that 'admin' accounts on other computers (which are still subject to some restrictions) - essentially God. And not just God, but a god who claims power over his creation... which transitively means power over everyone on Earth. He finds a society with a person who is "root" unacceptable.
Too bad she sold herself to pop culture, hllwd crooks run amok in cahoots. More than few bad apples who prey on kids, students, aspiring, working artists, cast, staff, witnesses, survivors to experts out of control ruin lives of those trying to get in or are part unstable industries.
Subtitles in what I believe is Turkish. I do love the subtitle vids, so long as they don't cover more than the average amount of space. Gives me a view into other language translations of the scenes I most enjoy ^_^
I love how Finch says "You're saying this like we weren't expecting them" in the most chilled voice. That line delivery was amazing
Interesting. Hmmmmm
When he wants to, Harold is scarier than a psycho ex-criminal and a former CIA agent. The reason: Michael Emerson is phenomenal.
LOST
@@zjebanygustmuzyczny6738 As much as I enjoy Finch as a character, Benjamin Linus is still a better character.
Definitely one of the best actors in existence.
@@WonkelDee Finch IS Ben Linus with a self-imposed moral center
@@PrestigeLearning Fair. Before Nathans death, Finch was very much like Benjamin Linus (minus the insecurities).
When it comes to harold... I'm reminded of a quote "...beware the anger of a gentle man."
"Demons run when a good man goes to war"
"You say that like we weren't expecting them."
Telling Control she is not in control of anything, how dire.

Best written show ever: scenes like this one, Elias watches as HR guy is killed, etc.

Carl Elias could always see through Finch's darkness. He said Finch was the scariest of them all.

Man this is a GREAT show.
And they could do a sequel too, with the team in the other city, and Shaw and Fosco.
They could and I would love that but I don't think they will do a sequel.
Sometimes, it's okay to let a good thing end
I was sooooooooo mindfucked when that other team revealed themselves
*Fusco**
Finch is only ten steps ahead. No wonder Elias wanted a proper chess partner.

Michael Emerson and Camryn Manheim are perfect in their roles. Wait, did I say "roles"? I'm not sure this show was a work of fiction.

Epic comment, I am sure it is not a work of fiction
The characters/events may be fiction, but it’s themes are very real.
Michael Emerson masterclass going on in this scene. Love him ❤
This is why Finch is the best.
Man, Reese and Shaw might be badasses, but Finch is in an entire different league

Don't get Finch angry. You won't like it.

really miss this serial i hope they make new seasons
it's the quite ones like Finch you fear
I used to work for the DOJ in an IT role that gave me top level access. A lot of our conversations were like this.
This scene just makes me more sad that show was short. Atleast full season 5 would see what Control would do to big game.
Control was phenomenal in this show. I wish there was more of here, but unfortunately her hubris (in character) was her undoing.
