Good video! I thought of getting the aves from Dan, but haven't yet. Maybe someday I'll pick up some for another tank of boesemani. I would love to get my hands on some of the Utter collection point.
I would recommend them. Dark substrate and foods high in astaxanthin. Will really make them pop. My favorite aspect certainly is that they've been letting their fry grow up with them so far
I like the super niche rainbowfish stuff. Hopefully once some of these collections become more widespread maybe we'll see rainbows finally get the love they deserve in the hobby. I'll be watching aquabid for some
I enjoy other fish other than rainbowfish but because of the niche... many species die out and are no longer in the hobby. Preservation of rarer but beautiful species are my focus
@@HoonAquatics That almost black on the one Uter us wild! Seen the Kromsa that Gary had in AquaBid sereral years ago. My Antinjo were cool to watch growing out. Thought the lighter whitish stripes on with the blue was really cool. Like I said I truly don't know where I will ever put more tanks but like any hobby it gives us things to look forward to. Having recently getting back to collecting rainbows again after figuring out I had the Camallanus things are soooo much better. Funny thing though I seem to have lost all my easy low light plants back when I was treating tanks. How do you lose frogbit, java moss and java fern and water sprite too! I do have a question thought. Do you ever see rainbows have strange things going on with their lips sometimes? I have never seen males lock lips but every now and then their lips get a little skinned up. Never anything major. Some almost seem to have developed a bit of scar tissue? Thanks.
@@robertbaker3174 yes thats a common question and occurrence for rainbows to get white lips. Sometimes its just ramming into the tank while sparring or when spooked. I never really worry about it unless some sort of infection occurs afterward. Nothing to really worry about!
@@HoonAquatics Thanks. Never asked anyone since I first started keeping them. Never had so many before either! Scary after dealing with Camallanus. I thought I had TB in some tanks. No probs since but man do I get antsy when I see anything! Will continue to enjoy your updates and such. While I am thinking rainbows still I thought about when I had Running Creek Tri's. Koemeng are coming along but lost my Parva when heat went off and on this winter. Have a plant ? if you would be so kind. Asked Bentley but he couldn't help. Thanks.
Just a quick edit: Some in Europe have seen Kromsa reach just under 4 inches. Aves Creek is an unknown of size so far. Will keep updated when I know for sure.
i noticed my boesemani does not have much of a blue or black front but when turning out the lights at night I can see they get very very dark I can't tell if it's black or dark blue.
You used my pictures! My fish do become darker orange in the morning. That’s more of their afternoon color. I feed krill flakes, frozen omega brine and frozen blood worms. My water is kH 6.0 out of the tap. I have lots of plants and change the water 1-2x per week. So far, I’m very happy with them! Great video! Thanks!
Just ran across this. Second time growing Aytingo. Was intrigued by the Uter× Aytingo line. Is that still available? Tried to get Uter a while ago but wasn't among Universal 's favoured few. Thanks much for complete info.Next up, Kali Tawa.
I have 8 or 9 in the 240 gallon/920 liters. The first were typical LFS stock...a little pale. I later bought some with a stronger yellow, but still a pale blue. The last two I bought are starting to show a stronger color of them all. With a deep blue breastplate that I don't see on the others. The largest Boesy is near 5" with a deep and wide body..the dominant Rainbow in the tank even though a hybrid Trifasciatus is larger, its second in line.
I think krill, plankton and anything high in astaxanthin will really help the oranges pop. It took a good while for them to develop much color. I'm also starting to deep some black in the morning but very briefly
Right now I'm feeding blood worms in the AM then flake in the PM (switching between bugs bites and tetra color, the tetra has shrimp in it so that's where I think some of that astaxantin is coming from)
@@treyreppe4348 some report bloat caused by daily feeding of bloodworms. I havent experienced it first hand though..so it maybe BS lol. I rotate daphnia, cyclops and spirulina brine as well as chlorella flakes. Lots of options out there. I always love a good variety

Mine have slightly white lips only at the tips and sometimes have a white hanging scale like the boesemani you showed at 8:12 thats at the top of the tank. Is that mouth rot or just a normal injury?
Rainbows bump into a lot of things. Though it is a minor injury and can heal by itself, it can also lead to infection. Not usually a huge deal. You may want to paint your sides of the tank so they don't ram into the side of the tank and can visualize there is a barrier if I keep swimming into this. Beautiful location of boesemani.
