The man is into plants and rainbow, so this was a real thrill for me. Not until recently did he count his aquariums. There are 85 of them with water in them. You didn't see very many that looked dirty either. (Note: Let's be honest, anyone with many tanks will tell you that they are hardly ever ALL clean) Gary put in some work getting these cleaned up for this video and I thank him for that.
What I like about what Gary does is that he goes DEEP into one type of fish. (He knows a ton about others, but Rainbows are his game.) He takes many of the fish from one end of the spectrum to the other. Many of the fish in his collection are wild caught- several by him or by someone he knows, that he gets them from. As you can see he then keeps them in a species only tank. He is very particular about keeping just ONE species of fish in a tank and as he says in the video- he doesn't take eggs out of a tank where the different fish species are mixed. Failure to do this is the reason you see crappy genetics and ugly rainbowfish in the pet shops. (Its also done intentionally by the major wholesalers as well at times)
Obviously, the hobby needs people like Gary who are committed to taking a fish full circle- Collected in the wild, brought back and well cared for, then bred and distributed. Keeping good fish around for hobbyists to enjoy the great strains of these great fish. If you have read this far- thanks- Can ya tell I liked going to his place.

The cleanliness of the tanks is most impressive, most of the time when someone has more than 5 tanks they don't take care of them the way they should, most of the time there is so much algae on the glass that you can't see inside the tanks on video, let alone tell what kind of fish are in the tank.
+Michael Agostino yeah- He will admit they aren't always this clean- he knew I was coming, but he certainly has them sparkling for this video.....He's killing it. It was awesome for me to hang out with him down there. I would have liked to have spent more time sitting in a chair checking them out, eat species at a time. feeding them to watch them flair up and show off. THANKS FOR WATCHING!

What an amazing fish room! Not only is his collection awesome but his knowledge about rainbows is spectacular. Sad when you compare his fish to what you usually find in the stores. Genetics matter for sure.

+FlintSparkedStudios yeah- he uses a pump from Jehmco that is mega quiet. (I have the same brand in my Greenhouse. ) work great and aren't loud....because lets be honest- nothing is worse than loud noise while you are trying to enjoy some fish tanks

Goyder Rivers are great. Very aggressive spawners but never seem to hurt each other whether a male with his female of choice or males battling each other. You will end up with an alpha much like a school of loaches but they seem to all get along. All of the above can also be said for my Boesemanis. With all due respect to Gary, my Goyders are EVERY bit as colorful as these and I got them at Petco! (I know, I know...but it was love at first site seeing the big school at the store). Perhaps the local rainbow wholesaler is breeding some true, imported Goyders like Gary here. Anyway, nice video. We have very similar tastes in tank stocking so it was fun to watch.

I have a 55 gallon with some rainbows and angelfish. The ph is about 7.2 and the temp is at 78 I dose seachem flourish, potassium, and iron once a week on the iron and twice a week on the others. I run a fluval aqua sky led light. I have some anubias java fern, crested java fern, some various crypts and some other odd balls everything seems to have decent color but the plants still grow fairly slow is there something I'm doing wrong?

+Diego Bambozzi that is how the grand master spawn them. they are spawning mops, the fish swim up in them and lay eggs :)

That brown/mix color gravel seen in many of the early shown tanks was widely distributed in the Chicagoland area all through the 50s and 60s. Great for plants. I can't find it now on the east coast. Nor did I see it when I dropped in on some Chitown stores last time I was there. It shouldn't be rare. Lange said he had a Wisconsin source. I'd like to find out what the source is and also whether the Chicago pet stores still carry it. I'd haul some back on my next trip home.

The Australian rainbow fish is called a crimson spotted rainbow fish. I can catch them in my creek.

I am a big fan of the Pseudomugil family of rainbow fishes. Just cannot find a breeder here in Florida that has good quality and even some rarer species.

Did anyone catch the name of the ingredient to look for in fish food. esethanums...aseithanums??? I would love to find this for my rainbow tank. I would love to have Glossiolepsis Wanemensis in my tank! I butchered the spelling something awful I know but it sure is a beautiful fish when, as Gary says "turns on". Great Great video.
