Ivanacara Bimaculata - Incredible New Dwarf Cichlid in the Hobby
Ivanacara bimaculata, one of the best additions to the hobby in recent years. Although old to science, it is just now being available globally for aquarists. To better highlight the species, I am keeping editing as low as possible. After keeping this incredible cichlid for the past couple years, I just wanted to highlight its beauty and document a bit of its story before reaching commercial success in the US. The larger pair highlighted is the F1 pair that I bred here at Hoon Aquatics, and are the progenetors of most fish in the US (as of 2024). With the addition of European bred fish being available, there will be more genetic diversity available in the future.

RARE Rainbowfish - Introduction to my Aquariums
Thanks for the video and info!
Finally got mine!
Goal fish. Still a novice so we'll see lol
@@tigercow they're becoming more and more accessible! I'm sure you'll have them one day
whats the red on the butt
9:10
Would be interested in some babies
@grantjohnson2454 In my recent video, I highlighted sources of where you can get them. Locally to me you can get them at @Shoreline-Aquatics or Moonlightaquatics.com. Both ship
Yea, these are spectacular. Do you have a source. I'd love to get a breeding group. Dan's Fish had them but they were all males. Cheers, Chris
AquaticClarity and Nationwide Aquatics have imported rare forms of Congo tetras. The Wetspot also occasionally imports them! Keep in mind there is also a blue/violet form that is similar in body shape to A. leopoldianus
Would really love to get some in Salt Lake City
They are available in the US! Place an order and you won't be disappointed.
Great parents and honestly not super aggressive either… my pair is amazing at taking care of their young yet never damage any of my other fish. And i have angelfish with long flowing fins.
That is an amazing fish, might have to build something out for a pair
Love those amazing rainbowfish, sight unseen for me...thanks for sharing
What a beautiful fish! Never seen this one in my country. No surprise given the location lol.
@@cduncan5690 hopefully they become more accessible globally soon!
I got a couple of fry out of my group before my basement got too hot. I think I'll have to wait until spring to see more little ones. Good thing is that the fry grow really quickly. Cheers, Chris
I guess they aren't that perturbed by their 85 degree tank as I found another little one last night. Cheers, Chris
Two beautiful species in that aquarium!
Great information. Great looking fish. Thanks for sharing
great video!
my options are, bimaculata, any apisto, african butterfly cichlids, kribs or rams. now im wondering if i can keep 4 bimaculata in a 40 gal
I had a different species of these Guys a while back
Great video
Stunning when will they be available in the uk
Geez, these are gorgeous cichlids. Wonderful footage, too!
@@PlainsPup thank you!
Can't wait to get my own pair some day. Great video!! Love from Singapore
These also sound like absolute nightmares if they become an invasive species HAHAHA. Thank goodness only seasoned hobbyists will come across them
Wat a miraculous journey your male made
This is awesome, Ryan! Thanks for introducing us to this new fish!
@kelleyforeman Thank you Kelley!
Just got a pair from Dan couple weeks ago and they are doing amazing with Angels and blue lamp eye congo tetra’s.. so beautiful watching them interact as a pair all day
i have a pair from the same group theyre nice
Lovely
What a beautiful fish. Definitely on my bucket list now
So funny you said Sweden because these guys "fish" has been available for years on end here since the late 1980s but then ofc as you said under Nannacara not Ivanacara maybe they been around in the Swedish hobby before that but it was in the late 80s I use to raise fry but they were never popular here until 2020s I will put a link here to another Swed who also bred them as most of us all did, I am so so happy you brought them to the attention again it is such a lovely little fish ruclips.net/video/eufdTvgc6gc/видео.html and I am happy it is now available for the USA fish keeping people too, I suspect that the Swedish guys "Kullander" had something to do with this species being available to us the famous guy ichthyologist that more or less have described every Apistogramma Sp. Like Apistogramma steindachneri that we also had in the 1980s but I have not seen it until recently again, these Swedish guys were there in Guyana in the 1960s collecting other undescribed Apistogramma Sp too. I too remember them being practically unkillable super super hardy and easy to spawn. TY for such a early Christmas present for us all and for all of you thinking of keeping these fish you will not regret it. Oh BTW we used to call these cichlids Day and Night due to there shifting appearances and I like that better than the new one the Splendid cichlid.
@adambohlin5112 I really appreciate the additional information! I began my search for this species after seeing Ulf Lindstrom's videos. I'm glad that they're gaining more popularity now! I also appreciate your kind words. They've been a joy to keep. A big thanks to the Swedes for getting them out there to thr global hobby 🇸🇪
absolutely spectacular
They seem very similar to jewel chilids , distant cousins maybe?
@unleashthekraken7548 Not at all. From different continents actually!
Well, they’re both cichlids, but these are from South America, while jewelfish are from Central and West Africa. So yes, distantly related within the cichlid family.
@PlainsPup taxonomically, you're correct! Good correction. But in generalities...haha! They're like a Pomelo and a Citron 😅
Well I really didn't mean in a general way they seem very close even though the are separated by continents. The similarity could be form follows function, they must fill the same eco niche. From the video even the males seem to display similar to jewel cichlids, may be slightly less aggressive.
Since the first time I saw these guys on your instagram, I've been obsessed. Thank you for your efforts, and it's amazing to know I can now buy some for myself when I am able.
@@tigercow That was my goal as well! To ensure they become and remain accessible for years to come.
Welcome back brother
Much appreciated! 😊
Glad to see you posting again!
I have a group of six in my discus tank at 82 degrees. They love Hikari Vibra Bites.
Do you sale your Melanotaenia sp Kell Tawa
These are some dope rainbows. Just wondering, I’m a bowhead in the Colorado area and I wanted to know how I could get rainbows from Gary Lange? He has so many cool species I wish I could own but haven’t seen anywhere
Do you have female kali tawa ?
Wow so many awesome rainbows.
Are these fish okay with nano fish?
Great video and amazing how you have so many projects!! I’m considering kali tawa for my 40B river tank that houses stiphodon gobies. Are the kali tawa peaceful with slower fish and do they keep to the top while feeding? Wondering if they’d eat all the algae wafers for the gobies at the bottom 😅 Thx for any insight!
Just ran across this. Second time growing Aytingo. Was intrigued by the Uter× Aytingo line. Is that still available? Tried to get Uter a while ago but wasn't among Universal 's favoured few. Thanks much for complete info.Next up, Kali Tawa.
Nice bowfishes
how about update on what they look like as adults now!!
I've just added 4 young, in fast flowing water & are doing well in a pH of 7.6 & heat of 77.9f they're gorgeous & your information is excellent thank you 😊
I have five large bosemani's in my 210 gallon tank trying to kill each other. Please help!
Update?
Any more update on…Hyphessobrycon peugeoti Hyphessobrycon procyon?
i noticed my boesemani does not have much of a blue or black front but when turning out the lights at night I can see they get very very dark I can't tell if it's black or dark blue.
Woah, they are kinda creepy. Would go well with the black metal rams. Spooktacular🎃
awesome vid
