  • With the CAMPUS expansion to Cities Skylines, we'll build a new Liberal Arts College onto a challenging hillside while expanding Reddington's population. See how we make the college and new neighborhoods fit organically into hilly terrain!
    This city starts out fresh on the Green Plains map, which comes with the base version of Cities: Skylines. Rather than being a planned and platted city, Reddington begins with just a town square and branches out on this verdant peninsula from there! Throughout the series we'll learn how older cities transportation networks sprung up from footpaths, cowpaths, and other old trails that follow the terrain rather than conquer it. Eventually we introduce railroads and paved roads for automobiles. We'll explore the history of transportation to better understand how American cities evolved into what they are today due to advancements in transportation technology.

    Lee, you actually can get unique 19th Century industries off the Steam Workshop. Yumbl got some mill buildings for his Newmarket series and Biffa got some mill buildings, Biffa got some mill buildings and a shoe factory for his Blightea-on-the-Wold series, and Jeremy Thunder got some old factories and warehouses for his Neptune City series..
    Those commercial buildings in the town square? Those vanilla buildings just look too darn modern, Jeremy Thunder says they have a Super Shooter esthetic! There should be some 19th Century commercial on the Sream Workshop as well.
    Otherwise your town is coming along fine! 🙂 🙂

      I have hemmed and hawed about switching the assets to make Reddington have a much more old Americana feel and so far I just haven’t decided to pull the trigger. I know it would look a whole lot better…but another part of me knows that there are so many other things I’d like to be better too, like the map & whatnot, that I really am thinking of just keeping things simple for now so I can make the next series much much better and exactly the way I want…with the right assets and such straight out of the gate.
      But I could still change my mind…idk 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Thanks for your thoughts 😊

    "I'm going to spitball this..." That quote reminds me of the scene in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home". The crew is on the Klingon ship and Spock is working on the calculations for the way back to the future (they went back in time to save humpback whales). So there is this scene between Spock and McCoy. And the Doctor asks Spock what is wrong and Spock basically replies that he is working on the calculations and he must make a "guess" with some of the numbers. McCoy's answer is basically, "I'll take your guess over most people's facts." That's not a direct quote, but pretty close. My point being is this - I'll take your "spitball" Lee over an engineer's calculations. Except maybe City Planner's, but it's pretty close.

    I'm really learning a lot from watching you play, so thank you. sometime I don't understand your position choices or road re-building several time "just to get it right", even though I watched "more money less traffic", so if you could share sometimes the more intricate changes and why you delete and rebuild those roads multiple times, that would be helpful, I hope

    • @LeeHawkinsPhoto
      @LeeHawkinsPhoto  Год назад

      @Stables08 is correct…this has a lot to do with it, since I hate wasting space if I can get it back. Another reason is that I sometimes see the alignment is _slightly_ off…so I rebuild to get it exactly where I want it.
      Another reason is that I think I don’t want a road somewhere and bulldoze it…and then I realize nope! I actually do want that there! Sort of like your cat when it meows at the door and then you open it to let it out…and it just lays down and acts indifferent to getting outside, indifferent to you, the world…everything…I’m a cat, I do what I want!
      😂 that went somewhere I didn’t expect it to go…anyway…I hope that helps a little 😁

    You need to do something about your audio levels. You're my 2nd most favorite C:SL youtuber, but often you're mumbling so faintly that your voice barely gets through over the music. I don't mind the mumbling, nobody can be 100% sure of everything all the time and that's just your way of thinking out loud (and that in turn is part of the build process). But I do think you need to boost the volume on those parts. And then there were also wildly fluctuating volume levels this episode (most notably 52:05-52:25).

    • @LeeHawkinsPhoto
      @LeeHawkinsPhoto  Год назад

      Thanks for the heads up…you’re the second person so far to say something. I definitely had some issues on this one where I went deep into thought and then didn’t get picked up by the mic very well. Hopefully things will be OK in the next episode, but it’ll be at least 2 more before my new recording technique will kick in (I used it on the Verde Beach episode) where I feel like things were much easier to get the audio levels to be even. I’ll pay better attention and try to make sure it’s not as bad on the next ones!
      There should also be one or two other videos coming in between the Reddington episodes where audio should not be an issue. Definitely keep this kind of feedback coming-it helps!
