Did you cut off the passenger line from the east side of the map? I thought it was sharing rail so it could exit past the airport... And what about central station, is that now cut off also.? EDIT: I see now, I'm looking at 8:05. I guess by cutting the other connections off you are cutting down on traffic as per the "meshing" that you mentioned..? It just doesn't seem realistic... Meh.. sucks to be traveling through without having to swap trains.. "the height of realism" I guess 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Good job I learned some neat tricks, thanks!
@@tylerhallon5007 yes! I meant to explain that little detail, but just ran out of time. That was 100% intentional. Phil mangling his rail network is one of my favorite aspects of verde beach. 😂 I go back to transport fever and look at my solutions in that game to help optimize rail in cities.
When CityPlanner built the farms on the hill I thought he should have put a cargo station up there too. This solution seems a little simpler and more elegant though.
LOTS of export traffic heading down from that farm! From the looks VB is really short on uneducated workers…late game problems! Thanks for watching & commenting!
Ever since this was discussed in the live stream I’ve been keen to see your work. Lee you’ve not failed to disappoint. These are some great changes to the rail network
Masterful work, Lee, and entertaining to boot. That did NOT feel like an hour and 15. Maybe this will convince Phil do do better grading before he builds, because it sure seemed to make the whole process much easier. Super enjoyable, thank you.
1st, thank you for bringing back CPP's old intro. I actually miss it. 2nd, this is a masterful build. I never knew about the 2 unit/elevated mechanic. HOW do you find out about this stuff??? 3rd, even with all this ingenuity, you make it all look so accessible. Lee, never stop never stopping. :)
The thing I always struggle with when it comes to rail in C:S is that it often feels like a reward to get away with building as little as you can. Once again it turns out you really do need lots of tracks to get things working, just like real life. Great fix, Lee!
I took a mental step back and find it incredibly interesting that people will play this game and deal with fictional city problems such as traffic while sitting comfortably at home. People will use a sometimes stressful game to escape reality... but then I remembered I'm spending my time watching these people do all of that and my opinion means nothing lol
Yes! Been waiting for this! I love the reconstruction of the lines and reworking of the roads, everything seems to flow smoother and everything just looks so clean!
Watching the painter paint is so satisfying. Excellent work, Lee. May I suggest replacing the Bob Ross freight station with the one added with the Airports dlc? It has an extra set of tracks and can handle 4 trains simultaneously. It should ease up the congestion more. On a sidenote, naming freight stations is a clever idea & a very convenient way to find out where trains are going on the fly.
I like what you did with the railways (although one section at the Bob Ross Terminal could be longer) but when City Planner said you were going to fix the Bob Ross Interchange I thought you were going to fix that winky wonky intersection that serves as a system T-junction! Sorry, Lee, but it's really giving me OCD to see such a tight ramp system on the outskirts of a city. The only places I've seen such an interchange were/are in Boston and New York City! (Boston - old Central Artery with its Leverett Circle Connector, New York City - Triborough Bridge at Major Deegan and Bruckner Expressways) Thanks! 😀
You are a genius! Your level of understanding of how the vanilla code/gameplay works is mind-blowing. I love how you visualized the rail system and then displayed it in your custom chart.
I love what Phil brings to the table! I wanted to do something that kept things moving while leaving most things as they were. I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks! 😊
Three things I always do with the train systems in my cities are: 1) Keep the passenger and freight tracks separate from each other 2) Keep the internal freight tracks separate from the external freight tracks 3) Use "flying junctions" for any connections between lines
I have found much of this to be true myself…especially #1…I feel like the game has a really terrible train AI though that makes #2 & #3 problems. I think I’ve also learned a bit about freight trains and routing IRL that has changed the way I design my systems now…that eliminates the need to handle internal and external traffic on separate networks. I will eventually make a video about this…
Aww man how could i miss that for so long, LEE you are the best. Loved every minute!.because you asked for tools, network multitool, node controller, move-it i mean you have mods instlled still counting heightlines and such... network multi tool would do all that for ya... and with node controller you could slope the nodes when they are between tunnel and surface segments or surface and elevated. i am sure you know that allready and just wanted to show off your vanilla skills ;)
Verde Beach is almost 100% vanilla, so I held WAY back on the mods with this one, which did allow me to show off a bit with my dusty old vanilla skills 😁
Those vanilla smooth rails are a bliss! I thought that gentle bridges are only possible with Captain Ahvious' 'trench bridge' technique! Hearing how you were into cities even before SimCity is mindblowing :O My very first 2016 vanilla city used to also have cargo train problems, the fix which I gathered at that time was to use a 'rail yard' as a 'transfer port' in which we separate local and international trains So int'l train comes in, drop off cargo into trucks, trucks then go to another cargo terminal which only has local tracks et voila no international trains can come into my local network
I’m so happy you enjoyed them! I used that double cargo terminal technique in my early cities. Since then I feel like I’ve gotten a better handle on how to design the system so it doesn’t have need for that…we’ll see how that goes in _More Money Less Traffic_ and in _Reddington_ I suppose! 🤔
@@LeeHawkinsPhoto Yes! It's amazing how both us the players and the game have evolved over these years so there are more solutions to this flood of trains problem hehe

Really fun and interesting to watch! Thanks Lee! The only issue I have is that bypass at the terminal. Maybe that should be in stages instead of a big lump of crossings? Other than that, you gave me great ideas! :-)
