re: 47:30 and the density of homes, to get less large, single family homes and encourage smaller, more frequent homes, I'll only zone a small 1x2 or 1x3 portion, and leave a 1 tile gap between each "property." Then, after the homes come in, I'll zone the rest of the block, knowing that the game will fill in the rest of the block with 1x2 or 1x3 homes. I really like how it gives a different feel to those neighborhoods.
The “gap” mentioned in the beginning is also referred to as a col in geological terminology. I love hearing of the different terms and pronunciations. Very knowledgeable info given here.
Hey Lee some info about the Appalachians 1 its app-uh-lach-uh 2 the Allegheny mountains are a stretch of the Appalachians that runs through the north east which is why you've heard the term from people around there.
I looked it up after I made this…looks like both pronunciations are technically correct, but the one I’m familiar with seems to be a more Northern or at least Midwestern way of saying it. (Ohio is actually considered the Eastern edge of the Midwest, where the flatter lands meet the Appalachians.) According to Wikipedia the Alleghenies are the range of mountains that run along the western spine of the Appalachians…the Allegheny River drains them, which makes sense. The Allegheny Plateau covers the Eastern tier of Ohio, roughly east of I-71 give or take. Here I live in Greater Cleveland, it’s really easy to tell where the Plains along Lake Erie and the Western part of the state end and where the Allegheny Plateau begins. The terrain is definitely more interesting in that part of the state!
@@LeeHawkinsPhoto Huh the more you know! Thats interesting that its defined as the western ridge i always thought of it as the northern section but i guess it doesnt reach quite that far.
Ok tips for industries dlc. When u set warehouses to fill, they stop selling as there goal is to get to 100% full so they buy a lot. When u set them to empty, anything that gets bought will be sold. The warehouses will buy products no matter the setting. Fill, balanced and empty mostly regulates the selling part. The only way to store raw products in the industries DLC is via the storage option in the industries tab not via warehouses. The warehouses store products ready for export or for unique factories. This means that if a ware house is storing forestry products (not timber and paper), that is coming from zoned forestry: generic industries that are set to forestry from the district tab, NOT the raw output of the industries DLCs. So for what u are doing this is recommend set up as far as I know: industries DLC raw storage set to empty unless you want to import the raw products, warehouses in the company town also set to empty or export and warehouses for the unique factories set to balanced/empty depending on the production rate(side note: production rate is linear, so if u enough raw materials, crank it up). Summary (to my knowledge, could ask CPP to investigate) Fill for import, Empty for export, balanced for somewhere in between.
I 100% agree about size of industries in the game. But i think it is designed to be compact because of the intended restrictions of tiles for console players or those with less than mega pcs
I think that I would feel better about if the industries in the game just produced less stuff…or if farms just produced in bursts like IRL. It’s just not what I wish it was…it’s too easy & too hard in the wrong ways I think.
When it comes to farming and logging you should check out Clearwater County by City Planner, he has a very large and profitable farm as well as logging.
The number of times you were talking about fill all I could think of was Phil (i.e. CPP) and the potential for the collaboration discussed in his stream
Lee: ((sees clearing in the trees, does everything do not build in that clearing)) 😂😂😂 I do appreciate you using the free form road tool instead of that disgusting curved road tool though, Phil has taken an unusual liking to it lately and I can't say I'm a fan..

@@LeeHawkinsPhoto Ok cool. You should consider implementing trams as many American cities started using them in the late 20th century. Also a postal service, if you don't already have one in place.
Old mountain roads wind all over the place. The cut and fill was all about digging into the uphill side to fill the downhill side. So I am so tempted to start playing Skylines again, but I don't have any of the DLC for the game, Is there a top 5 or similar of the most important DLC for the game that I should get first? Or can I just play the game vanilla?
You can just play the game with vanilla, but I would recommend grabbing especially the older DLCs on a sale (which should come soon with the new release coming up). If I had to pick a few that I thought made the most impact to the game, they would be: 1.) After Dark (bicycles, cargo hubs) 2.) Park Life (create your own parks in-game-HUGE improvement on so many levels) 3.) Green Cities (less polluting versions of water infrastructure, better power plants) 4.) Industries (allows creating industrial areas and unique factories, also warehouses) 5.) Tossup between Sunset Harbor (fishing industry, inland water treatment plants) and Airports (better buses & train assets besides the obvious). I would also consider Mass Transit because it makes it possible to use road assets from the Workshop (though I’m not sure if this is necessary for a lot of new road assets).
Great question! I wasn’t planning for it to get so big right away! But it’ll probably have to be done soon…I had to make sure freight traffic wouldn’t get hung up first.
I guess doing it one at a time makes sense. My build is all over the place so would often move to a different project even before making sure everything is working as I'd hope it for. Just had a laugh when I saw I typed Oxford instead of Oxbow.
