Remembering Mayor Lee's tenure:
Under the Better Neighborhood initiative, Mayor Lee liberalized the land use patterns for Pine and Dale hills. Pine and Dale hills gentrification attracts new hipster residents and new businesses along with kombucha bars. A portion of the land value tax proceeds went to fund the Highland extension. Mayor Lee also donates land to the University. The University calls it Lee's Endowment in his honor.
Mayor Lee's tenure, though controversial, did achieve the results set in his Better Neighborhood initiative

You got a lot done this episode! I like the cute little park you managed to cram onto Pine Hill. In case anyone's interested, here's some history for this city:
20-05-2021 - Start of the city, Czardus takes office as mayor, stays on for 3 years and 2 months. Builds a nice fishing town.
14-08-2024 - City Planner Plays takes office, for 4 years, 4 months. Builds a farm and cozy new neighbourhood.
23-12-2028 - Lee Hawkins takes office, for 7 years, 11 months. Fixes traffic and builds a hillside campus.
11-12-2036 - Overcharged Egg takes office, for 4 years. 2 months. Builds a waterfront and fancy tiered neighbourhood.
12-02-2041 - ImperialJedi takes office, for 3 years, 10 months. Builds a pretty interchange and expands the city into the forested hills.
22-12-2044 - Czardus returns to office, for 1 year, 10 months. Fills in open spaces and adds a forestry industry.
19-10-2046 - City Planner Plays returns to office, for 3 years and 5 months. Builds bike paths while the city burns, then redevelops downtown.
05-03-2050 - Lee Hawkins returns to office, for 10 years and 10 months. Earns the title of Lord Interchange and Master of Traffic, expands the city's industry.
01-05-2051 - TheTimeister comes in meanwhile as park planning consultant, for 5 years and 2 months. Develops a coastal nature reserve for the city.
21-01-2061 - Overcharged Egg returns to office, for 8 years and 6 months. Carves out a massive ore mine next to a small town nestled in the forest.
23-07-2069 - ImperialJedi returns to office, for 2 years and 5 months. Builds a mall and surrounding beachside neighbourhood, expands the city's industry.
27-12-2071 - Biffa comes in as traffic advisor/mayor, for 3 years and 3 months. Fixes traffic flow throughout the city to be better than it ever was.
25-03-2074 - Czardus returns to office, for 3 years and 6 months. Adds sprawling hillside suburbs and oil industry.
07-10-2077 - City Planner Plays returns to office, for 3 year and 8 months. Expands the city's downtown and improves connectivity and city services.
23-06-2081 - Imperator comes in, for 8 years, to develop an international airport across the river.
03-06-2083 - Lee Hawkins returns to office, for 10 years and 10 months. Redevelops Pine and Dale Hill, improves traffic and finishes the trade school campus.
07-04-2094 - Overcharged Egg returns to office?
Give or take a few weeks here and there where power changed hands etc. (i.e. I can't be bothered calculating the days as well)
Here in Utah, we have several universities built on the hills right at the base of the mountains. Undergrads do a lot of hiking up and down the hill between buildings, but the campuses are super pretty.

@@LiqdPT SFU? A buddy and I, tourists from AB, spent an entire afternoon walking down from the campus through the woods, it was fantastic! The walk into Port Moody along the side of 7A was less so but at least the view was nice

I really like smaller, more form-fitting parks in general and I especially like having two park areas connected by a short tunnel. That's a fun unique place with a ton of character
an idea i'd love to see someone implement would be filling in the old quarry with water and letting it become a camp ground / park (instead of artificially refilling it with resources)
Filling the quarry with water? I like that! Teenage boys will really enjoy diving into the quarry then just like boys from Quincy and Braintree MA enjoyed diving into a granite quarry until some developers dewatered and levelled it for a boring office park.
Excellent morning coffee break, thanks Lee! As a wee suggestion, if there's not going to be a round-4 (or even if there is I suppose): each "main" builder do a quick 10min tour and afterthought of the final city. I'd suggest a round table but those are a PITA, especially with the time differences that could be in play. Anyway, thanks for the entertainment and I'll look forward to Reddington Ep.Next... and Egg's take on what's now in Port Concord.
I would love this. Some closing thoughts on the city from all the builders, at the end of the season.

This season of 5B1C was my introduction to your channel & it was your first round on Port Concord that really sold me on this season and the 5B1C concept in general. Your style really illustrates the engineering aspect and you are proficient enough both at Cities Skylines and the actual concepts that respecting topography, grading, sloping, land use, traffic, etc. all begin to look like contributing and not limiting factors to creative city planning and design.
I very much look forward to your future content!

The only thing missing for this to be a 10/10 video is timeline chapters. CPP may have spoiled us with that, but i find it super useful, not sure how hard or time consuming it is for you though

You can always build the sports facility a little bit away and just extend the university area over it. So the attractiveness is added to the uni
I'd really like to put it at the end of Highland Blvd where all the transit converges. If nobody else does it, I will take it on perhaps in a Round 4.
I'm so glad you were able to finally work on the university again! I've been wanting to see what you would do ever since you started it. I'm happy you made a few changes to restore some of the sightline again, I know that was the reason you placed it where you did, and have been hoping someone would remember that. Also, thank you for finding a way to work together both the necessity of the bike network that CPP has championed, and the beauty of the tram bridge area that Egg created. Great job bringing both of those things together!
This is going to sound terrible, but I hope season 2 finishes with Egg and Jedi, and some very deliberate changes are made for season 3. Even though everyone was working within the same areas this season (instead of separately like season 1), season 2 felt more disjointed and un-collaborative as everyone stepped all over each other. I'm sure you all are in a Discord or Slack or something, so maybe you could pass feedback along? Or perhaps Czardus could set up some sort of feedback/poll/survey on the 5B1C site afterwards to gather viewer thoughts? I don't want to overwhelm your YT comments more than I already have.
I do want to say thank you, and I'm very glad to have been introduced to your channel as a result of you participating in this series. You have a new subscriber in me, and I really appreciate how you approach this game with dedication and focus, but also realism. Realism in knowledge, but also humanity. When I watch your videos, I feel like I'm hanging out IRL watching one of my friends play a game we all enjoy.
Nice - I really like how Dale Hill turned out! I think you could have easily put at least one, if not two sports facilities up against the base of the mountain - you shouldn't have sold yourself so short.
I would love to have done that, but I really needed to think transit through a lot more than I had time for. I really had to rush to get this done...had I had another week, I would have planned it out better and found a good spot for it 😊
@@LeeHawkinsPhoto There never is enough time with C:S, eh? I thought the "one more turn" thing with 4x games like Civ were bad - but you can really get that on steroids with C:S. You still managed to accomplish quite a lot though!

When you do 5b1c season 3. I suggest you limit the weekly episode to 1 or 2. Because being forced to make 3 episodes a week seems to have put you all in a crunch. Which has deteriorated the quality. (As evident from City Planner plays' 5b1c videos getting less views than his normal videos.)
If any of the 5b1c's want more content, they can make them as (1) Extra content, (2) (b) epsiodes like city planner does, (3)or a .5 episode like you did in your first week. So you are not forced to bring 3 episodes in your turn in a rush, but still put out the extra content if you have the time and you want to do that.
This is not criticism, I think you guys have all been doing a fantastic job with the time each of you were given to put out three episodes. Its Just my honest suggestion. So you can put out more content if you want to. Rather than being forced to do so.
I am 100% with you my friend! You are actually the second person to say this today! I don't know if you saw Ca$ino's comment on Egg's Discord server today, but he said exactly the same thing.

I’m tempted to build a whole new city of my own on this map. It’s a great map...I think it might have been good for us to pick a map that was less mountainous though for the collab in retrospect. Oh well, it’s still been fun! Just not much real estate is all.

To ease traffic on Concord Boulevard, why not add a new set of on/off ramps in the other side of the existing ones and BAN left turns all together?
Throw in some lane maths and you could even remove all traffic lights (from Highway->Concord Blvrd junctions, that is).
I've been asking every builder who looked at that blasted interchange to fix it ever since whoever built it (LH? CCP?) in what I perceived was a wonky manner.
I may not have suggested it, but I thought the best interchange for there is a roundabout connecting to the Cross Bay Highway with either slip roads or a bespoke wye interchange terminating at the bottom on one side of the roundabout.
Yeah. It worked for that amount of traffic back then, but not anymore. It's kinda "ugly" since the beginning, though :D.
A roundabout interchange would work quite well, even better with well-placed fine-tuned slip lanes. But whoever builds it would have to fiddle with the terrain a bit, as the highway is quite high at that point, with no space for long ramps in one of the sides - unless moving it further down, closer to the shore.
I think I might make a short video about this, because I keep getting asked this. It's a great question, and I have a good reason for why I haven't done it.

To increase your student numbers with a smaller population set a city wide policy to encourage education or education boost whatever it’s called. This makes a significant difference!

High school is not covered on other side of the city on hill side, south of farming area. But it difficult with very long roads.
Time to add some more tiles and/or cross the river!

@@benmoorhouse1988 I think City Planner used it to show utilization of the bike network...but otherwise I think you're right.
On the industry by the farm: Growable and ploppable industry doesn't interact in any way whatsoever. The growable farming industry produces a different goods type from the crop fields. But if you fill some of the gaps in the farm with specialized farming industry zone, that will supply your generic industry by the station.
I think that you're right on that...I don't know if that's what I implied or not...I don't remember. :-( The main things was that I wanted to take advantage of the rail access. Generic Industry will level up fast if one is nearby.

Hey Lee, just some constructive feedback from me...I've observed a few of your 5B1C videos and besides the low frame rate, that you specified on this video, I hope to see your videos on YT looking much sharper/ crisper. Does any of the in game mods like Ultimate Eyecandy or others help? Watching it on 1080p and it doesn't have the same visual effects that I see on CPP and Biffa's channel.
Actually, Ultimate Eyecandy is what messed me up with this last episode. I turned up the tree settings to record cinematics and forgot to turn the settings back down. This city has WAY more trees than I like to run with. I stay below the limit and go low-polygon on my own builds because the game runs much smoother! But I could definitely use an upgrade...but they are soooo pricey! My video card doesn’t keep up as easily being an AMD instead of an Nvidia either.

Not much difference for me. I watch in 360p anyway. Only people who can afford to watch in 1080p or 4k will notice that
@@alienamzal477 it's not about who can 'afford'. most of us use Wifi to watch a 40+ minute video so higher the quality, better the visuals.

Hey Lee, when you were talking about braiding the ramps near Dale Farm I felt certain that somewhere along the line during the 5B1C season that one of you will have to turn Cascadia Highway into a four-roadway freeway. Like the 401 in Toronto, ON, CA.
Right now we're getting by without that, but I wouldn't rule that out completely. It could become necessary. I've been avoiding it because it will be time consuming to do it! lol The Crossbay Highway w/ Concord Blvd could use it too.
@@LeeHawkinsPhoto You may be right there! However, my idea for that intersection would be a custom wye interchange terminating in a roundabout at Concord Blvd. Might require considerable taking of land and buildings though especially east of the boulevard. If the game gets that far.

It still might happen. One thing about universities in the US...they continually expand it seems! So I wouldn't rule it out.

Not sure...we definitely will have Overcharged Egg & ImperialJedi do their weeks...but idk what happens after that just yet. Season 2 Round 4 sounds like a possibility. Not sure everyone will be in for it, but I'd say there's a 60% chance it will happen.
So.. you're just unlocking buildings now without reaching the criteria? I mean, I've liked most of what you've done in this city, but that's pushing it. Might as well unlock the various Monuments in that case
We are literally _just_ missing the mark here, and I didn’t have time to goof around amping up the school population to hit the mark. We’ve mostly honored the milestones in the game, but in reality they really are very arbitrary, and they limit our ability to finish projects like this. It’s not like this series was ever a vanilla playthrough...it’s very heavily modded.
@@LeeHawkinsPhoto True, it's arbitrary, but it's the original game mechanics. You make awesome stuff Lee, so the end result was great. I just thought that with all the mods changing the game, the 5 Builders would keep some things original, like the budget wasn't made infinite, and all milestones weren't unlocked from the get-go. Anyways, good job on the build!

I'm sorry but this episode is a bit lower in quality than your previous ones... The park with the blue mantle, the way you unlocked the University assets, the respect of topography... Sorry but I don't buy it.
