      I would compare the zenbook pro both the. Touch pad and the non touch pad to the mac. Dell really needs to step up on the designs of their scalp tops and put in more ports they are just getting lazy in their designs. The xps13 looks much better than the 15

    I use both MacBook Pro 2016 (6700HQ & Radeon Pro 450) and Dell XPS 9560 (7700HQ & GTX 1050 & 4K) which I bought for almost the same amount of money. So far, XPS is the Windows laptop I had the least amount of issues with. There are things I would like to note:
    1) While Radeon Pro 450 is quite a nice card for a laptop of this size, obviously GTX 1050 is way ahead when it comes to graphics performance (not to mention it has double the VRAM) and it can handle modern games at medium to high settings (1080p) quite well for a non-gaming laptop. While my Steam library is on an external SSD and I can use either device for gaming anytime, I mostly use XPS for demanding games.
    2) While I like the advantage of having four Thunderbolt 3 ports on Mac, being able to connect most current external devices to XPS without hiccup feels nice.
    3) 4K screen on XPS is definitely impressive, but my overall favourite is Mac screen. The screen looks true too life as the content looks right over the surface of the screen and 16-10 aspect ratio makes it perfect for any use case making use of more vertical space. Dell has advantage when it comes to gaming and watching movies due to 16-9 aspect ratio though.
    4) Thunderbolt 3 port on XPS is a complete joke. I can use my 86 watt Mac charger to power my XPS during most of my work; however, that is pretty much all I can use that port for (plus using my USB-C to ethernet adapter). Its power output is very limited and it cannot even charge my phone at full speed. It only connects to my external SSD half of the times and it provides lower throughput for my external drives compared to the USB-A ports. I'm not sure if this is a software issue but four of my friends using this device has similar issues for months.
    5) Keyboard on Mac is quite nice after some getting used to. In fact, I miss Mac's keyboard when I temporarily use another one. XPS keyboard, on the other hand, is not so much a fun to use. None of us in the office seem to like it.
    6) Speakers on the Mac is almost perfect for a laptop of this size. I travel a lot and never have I found myself in need of an external speaker in a hotel room. With XPS, headphones are must have.
    7) While weight difference looks small on paper, it is quite noticeable if you carry them around quite often. Battery life of the Mac for light workload is much longer but still I can take either device outside without worrying about getting out of juice before I get back home.
    Therefore, as a former Apple hater, I seem to enjoy using my MacBook Pro much more than my XPS overall. Both could be good for different use cases though. At the end of the day, it all comes to personal preference.

      That intangible Mac enjoyment that you are alluding to is what so many people (including myself, in the past) just don't understand when it comes to comparing a Mac to a windows machine. What makes the Mac user experience so superior to the windows one (not just Dell, but other manufacturers as well), cannot be found in a specs list. And therefore, cannot be understood without having owned both. In my mind it's akin to saying: "Both of these cars will get me to work on time. Why on Earth would I pay an extra $180,000 for the Ferrari over the Kia when both vehicles accomplish the same task?" Until you've owned and used both, you can't possibly even begin to understand what makes one so superior to the other, that one would be willing to pay the premium price difference in order to experience that special something on a daily basis. And to those who would say, "I HAVE tried both! There is no difference!" I would say in response, just because you tried Italian Beluga Hybrid caviar and didn't like it, doesn't mean it isn't worth five times per can more over plain old organic Sturgeon to some people. Now hush, and let them enjoy their caviar. ;)

      "What makes the Mac user experience so superior to the windows one (not just Dell, but other manufacturers as well), cannot be found in a specs list."
      Because it's a product of your imagination, induced by Apple...
      "Until you've owned and used both, you can't possibly even begin to understand what makes one so superior to the other"
      Used macs for more than two decades. Try again, fanboy.

      If any of your comments also targeted me:
      I wasn't trying anything and I am anything but a fanboy. Not to mention that I never said MacBook was better than XPS in every way. After months of usage, I am not ditching either device; however, I know that, unless Apple really screws up the Mac lineup, only another MacBook Pro will replace my current one.
      I am also eager to see the detailed reviews of upcoming Asus ZenBook Pro with GTX 1050 Ti. If cooling was as good as advertised, it could be my main Windows machine for work in the future (not this year's model since XPS will probably last long for now).

      Well, you obviously don't know much about computers if you think the MBP screen is better than Dell's 4K panel. Brightness is not really what pros are seeking, it's COLOR ACCURACY, and the Dell screen covers 100% Adobe RGB. Apple? Not even close... The rest of your comment is made of very biased opinions and fact-free. BTW, MBP speakers suck too. But then again, you probably think it's all about volume...

    • @keskincandas
      @keskincandas 7 лет назад +37

      Forgive me for thinking, for a minute, that I was actually replying to a reasonable comment. Every word you type screams hater (which btw is just as sad as being a fanboy)!
      I never said my comments were facts. Those are my opinions. You, on the other hand, are so much of a hater as to claim that colour accuracy is all about colour gamut and claiming others don't know anything. So let me save you the trouble by going less technical on this and put it simpler for you:
      Is the screen on XPS more vibrant? Yes, definitely.
      Is it more accurate? Not even close!
      Do your homework before you make a public comment like this so you wouldn't embarrass yourself.

    The main reason why Dell XPS 15 can't be opened by one hand, is because it's made for touch screen which need a stable screen to work. Although it should not be applied on non touch version, if you ever use a 4k touch screen of XPS 15 ( i'm using one ) you will see it makes sense to make laptop like that. A laptop that can be opened by one hand can not have touch screen because when you point your finger, the screen will not stable and it's awkward to use.

    I think an important consideration I almost never see talked about (especially since the sticking point with Macs often is the price) is that they hold their resale value exceedingly well. I sold my 7 year old MacBook Pro for $500. I will admit that I haven't looked into it, but I'd be shocked if you could sell a 7 year old Dell laptop for that much. Of any specs.
    So while you may be paying more for a MBP, they tend to hold their value for a LOT longer and actually age really well too. You're paying more upfront but my personal opinion is they are also a better investment.

    Excellent comparison! I have been "on the fence" with regard to which of these two really great laptops to purchase. I felt like I honestly couldn't go wrong with either of them. But, one week ago I pulled the trigger and picked up the exact same configuration of the 15" MacBook Pro that you used here for your comparison. Even so, I wasn't entirely certain that I'd made the correct call. I still had doubts. However, after hearing your comments about each of these offerings, I'm comfortable that I made the right choice for me. Even though both are truly superior machines when compared to the "typical" laptop of today, the MacBook ticked more of the important boxes for me than did the XPS. So, you've done me a great service by increasing my comfort level with my MBP 15 purchase decision, and settled finally the debate which had been on-going in my head regarding which of these superb machines to pick up. Thank you! :)

    Hi left RUclips playing and the recommendations on the right side of the screen have gotten so much better over the past few years. And it auto-play is on, the top suggestion starts playing automatically.
    So I came back in the middle of this demo and this was a pretty good evaluation and comparison. I'm subscribing.
    I just wanted to leave you my opinion that I prefer longer videos for especially considering all the information you went over. Individuals use their computers for different things and this was very helpful for someone who needs to buy a new laptop.
    Plus on RUclips, you can watch the video again or part of it again, if you need to hear something more than once. Very good comparison! Don't worry about your videos being too long. This was great!

    Ive always been happy to pay a premium for my mac laptops but Apple have lost their grip on reality through greed and or arrogance. Given the sheer volume of critical reviews any sane company would realise that their so called 'Pro' users would rather a proper keyboard, battery life and the currently relevant ports they need to get the job done over another millimeter of height shaved off.
    If this was aimed at their trendy mainstream users with lots of money then fine.....But I guess here we have it, Apple see's more money in WOWing the average user who doesn't know or care about any of the things that I do but are still happy to claim they make pro devices for 'pro'fessionals!

      Jayme Capurso I totally agree. For the last decade I didn't want any windows computers in the house because I would have to spend time supporting them even though their initial cost was much lower. Lately though, apple's lost ways mean that my last three laptop purchases were Windows computers. Let's hope apple returns to sanity and I won't have to support more windows machine s. However, it is now much easier to totally replace the windows OS even from a virus or other problem by creating a win10 install USB since the computer itself does not lose its license.

    Been a windows user and switched to mac 5 years ago. Just because the new gen MBP was no longer upgradeable and even more expensive, thought I'd switch back. So I bought the XPS15. Had some issues installing the drivers, but after 2-3 windows reinstalls over the course of a month, got it pretty stable. I did get the occasional blue screen once in a while but overall it was a decent experience when docked to a monitor with keyboard and mouse. However when used as a laptop, just because the trackpad is so bad and unprecise, it was very frustrating to use. Long story short, I'm back to mu mac (macbook air 2012 and imac 2011) and couldn't be happier. Maybe will get the MBP 13 later this year, but not touchbar (ew). So long story short, the user experience is much better on the mac, haters only see the price difference.

      I totally agree with this. Been rocking a 2011 MBP for a long time and finally am frustrated with out dated ports and lower resolution screen. The MBP I would want to upgrade to is around $2500 and I found a loaded Dell on sale for only $1350 so I decided I'd give it a try. It has such better specs and ports than the MBP and even has a 4k screen. Now that I have it, I noticed it has bad enough edge bleeding issues that I'm going to take it back for exchange, the trackpad is so much worse than a MBP, windows 10 has issues with 4k scaling especially if connected to multiple 1080p monitors which MBPs have never had issues with. I DEFINITELY think the experience is better on the MBP and would love to just get a new one instead but at $2500 I think i'm going to just try to exchange my new Dell in hopes I get a better panel on the next one and deal with the annoyances for the much cheaper price unfortunately.

    I have both machines at home. The Macbook wins in pretty much all the aspects that I care about:
    - Design
    - Display
    - Trackpad
    - Keyboard
    - Build quality
    - Overall battery life
    - Fan noise
    - Portability
    - Sound quality: Speakers + Audio jack
    Dell wins:
    - Gaming performance
    - I personally still prefer Windows

      Jas M Really? Can you please share where you get your Macbooks from? I'm from Australia too and recently looked for a new laptop and Macs were more expensive, by a couple hundred dollars at least. The 15inch XPS with 4k touch display and core i7, 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD is $3199 on Dell's website (on sale ATM though down to $2710). While the 15inch MBP touch bar and i7 processor, and same storage/memory Config is $4099. That's still a $900 difference. Until the i7 models of the Macs just came out recently, they had the older i5 processors and were about the same price as the i7 Dell XPS. But now the new Macs are a lot more expensive.

    • @eddiexiang3606
      @eddiexiang3606 7 лет назад

      Umm. The 2016 MBP 15 also has the i7 but its 6th gen. I don think they use i5 in MBP 15. But, I think it is all down to the preferences. There are people prefer MacOs and Mac products in general and there are people love windows with higher or equal spec but lower price. I think when people are looking at laptops that are over $3000. They want to buy what they want. I don't think many of them will change their mind due to the slight price gap. Thats my $0.02 anyway. I personally have been using MacOs for 8 years now and no plan to change in the near future. I brought my MBP 15 $800 cheaper than RRP. Brand new as well xD.

    I think 1080p, 300 nits and sRGB is more than enough on a portable device. If I would need anything more accurate for content creation I would probably hook it up to an external monitor but for on the go I don't need anything more. Oh and I think a touch screen is only useful if the laptop can be used in a tablet form.
    Overall if Final Cut Pro is not a viewpoint I see no reason to buy the MacBook Pro, maybe the design of its body is the only thing I like about it. The touch bar is kinda meh and I don't see the point of that huge touchpad. Not trying to be an Apple hater or anything, those are only my thoughts.

      Look, the de-facto standard every professional editor uses nowadays is Premiere (with DaVinci gaining more and more in popularity.) It makes absolutely no sense to compare rendering in FCP on a mac to rendering in Premiere on a windows machines. Pros use Premiere or DaVinci, and the computer running windows will ALWAYS render faster, given similar internals.
      But Apple fanboys are no professionals. They're just spoiled children who love to feel superior to the rest of humanity, so they'll find whatever excuse to claim that their machine is better and willingly lie or disinform. So, you just get a mac because the software is "optimized", and the "proof" is that FCP renders much faster than Premiere. Except that has NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO with the OS. Premiere simply isn't the fastest-rendering editor. And there are windows programs that render faster than FCP (like Power Director.) And they're not "optimized", since they're not made by Microsoft. And yet they beat Apple's "optimized" FCP... Proof that MacOS's "optimization" is just another empty buzzword...

    • @CoffeeD_1
      @CoffeeD_1 7 лет назад

      Well, for single projects like yt FCP is still a great option. It lacks nothing and it's a heck of a lot faster.
      And even though I agree that the touchbar isn't the most innovative thing ever, it is still helping me so much for little things like adjusting brightness, volume and music play, it's better than it seems

    • @paolopizzi5603
      @paolopizzi5603 7 лет назад +3

      "It lacks nothing and it's a heck of a lot faster."
      It lacks plenty and that's why it's not the de-facto industry standard that Premiere is. And the fact that it renders faster than Premiere means nothing. Power Director on Windows is even faster than FCP when it comes to rendering. And no, since it's not made by MS, it's not "optimized." Which kinda proves that Apple's "optimization" is yet another stinking pile of BS...

    • @CoffeeD_1
      @CoffeeD_1 7 лет назад +4

      Well, if you use premiere, you need a pc expensive as shit to smoothly playback and scroll through heavily edited 4k footage. and talking about power director, I never see around who ever uses that, so I don't see the point in bringing that up, and you're basically contradicting yourself about the point that no pro uses final cut and makes you look like you just want to prove in some way that the system you don't use is shit

    Honestly MacBooks are the best.
    Just lovely to use and work so well.
    The only thing is the price.
    So if you have the money - buy the Mac.
    If you don't have the money - buy the best Windows Laptop.
    Also Windows are better for gaming and certain third party apps.
    If you are a general user and just want a great laptop. I'd choose the Mac. Mainly because it's got a high resale value, it's a pleasure to use, it looks and sounds great and it remains fast for years and years.
    The problem with Windows is the reduced performance in later years.

    Can't speak for the MacBook, but the XPS does have some serious driver issues I really hope Dell addresses before the end of the year. The keyboard sucks and the space bar has response issues that several people including myself have noticed. And those speakers are really, really bad. Just the fucking worst. I've already had to replace the speakers because one of them blew out. Good thing the laptop is easy to open. So long as you have the correct screw drivers.
    Still a solid laptop believe it or not. If the driver issues would be addressed soon, I will definitely feel much better about dropping some much money on this thing.

That was including VAT. Comes with Win 10 Home, which I will probably want to upgrade to benefit from being able to run Hyper-V machines. But if you are looking for a cheap way of getting one of these machines, I think it's a good idea to wait for one of the Dell Outlet store's 15% off deals on XPS, like I did last week. I'm glad you mentioned one-handed opening. It's something that bothers me (more than it should) about many modern PC laptops, so much so that I don't want to upgrade from my 2012 model XPS 15. As far as I'm aware, that was the last XPS model I could open one-handed.

      Apple never wins vs windows. Never ever!!!! If you install linux on a much chipper windows computer you have a similar performance like a mac which is a moddified linux program. Linux computer use a small resurses vs a windows computer!!! If you want a fair play comparation put a windows on a apple computer an run test. If you make a compration to a top apple product vs ASUS ROG G752VS-XS74K OC Edition the winner is Asus and cost 2400 dollars!!! Like a said apple vs a windows computer never ever wins!!!

      I can't say the same about my experience with Macs. MacOS is great, but my MacBook Pro had numerous problems and cost me hundreds to keep up and running. That and Apple's recent decisions (the gimmicky TouchBar, the axing of essential ports, the killing of MagSafe), leave me looking to Windows again.

    The fact that the laptop was imbalanced and the screen darkens isn't just a nuisance. These are HUGE issues with build quality, and those two things alone IMO are enough to disqualify this Dell as a good purchase.

    • @Zerobob26
      @Zerobob26 7 лет назад +14

      Exactly right. I bought an XPS 13 (top spec Kaby Lake) and had horrendous issues with coil whine, a notorious problem with the XPS laptops. The XPS also had issues with the trackpad, audio static/hiss, and it wouldn't stay asleep in sleep mode. I returned it. The Dell XPS seems like a good purchase in terms of price and spec, but you simply aren't getting the same build quality or ease of use as a MacBook Pro.

    • @adaeon4760
      @adaeon4760 7 лет назад +7

      And also notice when demonstrating the 'spongy' keys on the dell, when he pressed in on the keyboard the entire assembly bowed inward? That's another clear sign of poor build quality.

    • @pspvita99

      You could just get the 4k IPS display from dell, and you would still be saving allot of money over a mac. Thats why I commented earlier saying that a better comparison would have been getting the fully speced dell laptop, and then tried to find the closest priced mac laptop, although as you saw for a thousand dollars less than the mac you get a more powerful machine with the dell, for 150$/180$ more you could get the better 4k display, and also investing another $200, or maybe a little less you could even get a better graphics card, and you would still be saving 500-600$ or maybe more, and have a real high end machine, I'm not saying that the Dell in this video is not a high end machine, because it is, but just for a little more you could get a beast of a machine, and still be saving allot over a mac.

    • @PoliticalHell

      It's not all just about specs and raw power. If that's what you want, get a desktop.

    • @pspvita99
      @pspvita99 7 лет назад +2

      Yeah I know its also about the fact that your over paying for hardware thats under powered, and on top of all that the mac book pro has allot of issues, and these issues have been found by hardcore apple fan boys, not just people that hate apple for no real reason other than to hate, the problems people are having is the track pad apparently gets pressed accidentally making you start typing in a different area on the screen, the Battery, also the ports have problems at times as well, and with certain devices certain ports don't work at all, also the lack of a card reader, and allot of other premium features have been taken away as well. The Mac book pro as it is now isn't even something that should be recommended to die hard apple fans, also for a thousand dollars less you could get a laptop thats more powerful, and has all the ports you want, and a card reader, and a good dedicated graphics card, and if you payed the same price as the mac book laptop you would be getting a laptop thats a beast in every scenario you throw at it, but even if you decided you wanted to save just $500 or $600 you would be getting a beast of a gaming/ work/ Video editing laptop. Also if you wanted to put apples OS on it, you could do that later on as well, or just use Linux or partition your harddrive/SSD and have Windows and either mac OS or a version of Linux. Also with a mac budget you could get a 4k IPS display, an I7, 16GB or 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and a GTX 1080 , and one or two SSDs, and a 7200RPM hard drive, which would make a nice laptop that could do basically anything you wanted, game on ultra, work/video edit fast, so basically anything you threw at it it could handle.

    Not a word on the fact that the MBP is limited to 16 gigs of RAM and whatever SSD it comes with? If you edit 4K content professionally, working with 32 gigs of RAM DOES make an awful lot of difference. And yes, Apple as usual will not pick the best GPU, just the one they get a great deal on from the manufacturer, usually by sheer blackmail (that's why they always pick second-tier AMD...), so that instead of passing the savings to the customer they can squeeze him/her even more.
    But, as usual, Apple is not really targeting the niche of actual media pros who'd get pretty upset by being treated like children and told what's good for them (as if Apple actually knew it...), but rather the millions of rich (more often than not simply wannabe-rich) poseurs all over the world who buy that brand to feel superior to the rest of humanity. And who typically spend their lives blogging at Starbucks and looking down on peons who dare to not subscribe to the Apple cult.
    Oh, and BTW, the XPS15 with the 4K screen is MASSIVELY more color-accurate than the MBP. As in 100% Adobe RGB coverage... Once again, it may be trivial for the blogger who sits pretty at Starbucks behind his/her symbol of opulence, but not for the actual media professional. Screen brightness isn't really important, as no pro editor would ever work under the sun.

      "the Mac won in most other categories"
      Such as what? Design? That's subjective and only idiots like you care about design. Apple fanboys believe that computers are fashion accessories, LOL...
      BWAHAHAHAHAHAH sorry fanboy, you're just too dumb and clueless to understand that what this guy is reviewing is NOT the top-of-the-line XPS15 I own. Compare the pathetic and overpriced MBP15 to my model and it loses in each and every category. I have a 4K screen, which has 100% Adobe RGB. Apple doesn't even come close. And the SSD in the 32-gig model is the faster Samsung PM951, which smokes the cheap crap Apple solders on the mobo.
      Now please tell me that you don't need 32 gigs and a 4K screen (you would hailed those as fantastic if Apple only had them, you are like a child...) and you would still look like an idiot for buying a MBP instead of a Dell Inspiron 15, which costs less than half and STILL smokes the Apple joke since it has a powerful 1050ti GPU.
      Gotta love how you never miss any opportunity to show off how utterly incompetent and clueless you are, fanboy...

Funny how in the same message you claim to own a Dell desktop and at the same time claim that Dell, Samsung, HP and any other brand you want to claim you use are utter crap. Don't insult my intelligence, fanboy. Keep programming stupid games for iDiots, that perfectly suits you. But, like I said, you could do that with a $400 laptop...

What this video failed to mention is the MacBook's ability to install and run a Windows partition as well as a Mac OS partition. Same here, I have MBP 15 2016 and only problem is that keyboard had to be changed, b key was repeating itself. My wife is an Apple hater :) and proud owner of 2016 XPS, USB-C hub was a waste of money, as they never developed proper drivers for it and discontinued, funny thing I can use it with MBP, no problems. Motherboard was replaced, battery was replaced, touchpad was replaced.
      It has tinny rubbish sound from the back of laptop, but 4K screen is glorious. Put a screen protector on it and it will remove the gloss. After this screen is better than MBP.

    • @BradleyVanTreese

      I disagree, Splash. The issue I have always had with Dells (both employer issued and one I purchased for personal use) is the "fit & finish". Aside from the fact that Tom's machine wouldn't even sit flush on a flat surface when he first received it, and the fact that the palm rest is already changing colors on him, I have had multiple instances of the finish wearing off, fading and "chipping" to various degrees on the XPS 15 I owned previously. In fact, the quality issues I experienced with my most recent Dell is what prompted me to even start considering the MacBook option. The tech specs on the XPS are quite good in my opinion, but the build quality has a ways to go to equal even a Lenovo or an Asus, let alone a MacBook. Perhaps if Dell offered something akin to Apple Care I might feel differently. But, they do not.

    I too tried the XPS 15 vs the MBP 15 and it was just too hard to justify the extra cost for the MBP. I really loved the MBP form factor but the nail in it's coffin was everything soldered to the board, at least with the Dell I can swap out the memory, hard drive and even the wifi card. That was what kicked me over the edge to the Dell, which I currently have the 9560 top of the range with a fresh install that makes the Dell run a lot smoother.

    Macbooks are overpriced JUNK. So limited with what you can do and can ONLY go up to 16gb ram, at the time you purchase it. There's NO upgrading it afterwards. . One thing you forgot to mention is with the Dell XPS 15 is that you can open it up and upgrade the RAM to 32GB and upgrade the SSD. Thats right you can open it up, take out the SSD thats in there and put in a larger capacity one. You can even open it up, take out the RAM thats in there and replace it with new larger capacity RAM. Cant do that with the crapBook. Thats a MASSIVE bonus. So looks like the Dell will outlast the CrapBook as well

So much faster. The thunderbolt port on the xps 15 isn't full bandwidth too, meaning that you won't get full speed using external pcie cards or devices.
