      Well it depends on what you want to do with the computer. most computers these days are more then capable but like I said its what your budget is and what you want to do with it. Heres what I can say go with apple if you are part of the ecosystem as in have an Iphone and or Apple TV because of the integration go with windows if you want to customize it and build a powerful system for editing video or photo or what ever. 4gb of ram min 16,32 recommended 256ssd for storage and then you be set apple or Microsoft are both good. Laptop for portability and desktop for power and speed. windows or Mac are both capable at doing what you want and MacBook Pro or Microsoft surface is amazing just up to you to decide if you want a Mac or not. I prefer them but thats just me. best of luck and if you need help feel free to ask I be more then happy to help

      Hi Simon. I have been a Mac user for more than 10 years. If you are in for an Apple laptop, I would highly recommend you to consider getting the previous model: the MacBook Pro 2015. It might not look so sleek and cool in comparison to the 2016 version, but its advantages are quite convincing: it has a higher variety and number of ports, including the classic USB, the Lightning, etc. and also the MagSafe! Losing the MagSafe was one the biggest mistakes in my opinion: in my case it has prevented a lot of disasters. The screen is slightly inferior compared to the 2016 model, but it's still gorgeous and it's still a high resolution Retina Display. It's fast, stable and has a better quality/price. You can still find this model in Amazon or even in the Apple website, if you go to their Refurbished and Clearance section. For example, you can now get the 2015, 13 inch display MacBook Pro, for $929. In my opinion, it's a good deal!

    Who else want Apple to just stop making it thinner & lighter (Pro is light and thin enough as it is) and instead bring back the USB + memory card slot, so we can skip this whole dongle-saga, and above all, removing the giant touchpad, and just making an apple computer that is PROfessional again. Want to incorporate Emojies into a computer? Go make a fucking iMoji Pro. Professionals don't need that shit.

    • @Jarl_69
      @Jarl_69 7 лет назад +5

      Wrong! Other "reviews" find faults for finding faults sake. If you actually gave it a chance and used the Macbook for any period of time, you'd know that USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 is an advantage NOT a disadvantage. You'd know that the touchbar, while not being revolutionary, is nice to have. You'd know that the battery life is actually good. 5-6 hours of real world usage is great, more if all you do is web browsing...

    I have exactly the same configuration he does on my MBP, and I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEMS; apps freeze, very frequent beach-balling, and batter life is unbelievably bad. I literally can not watch two movies on a flight. One movie will drain my battery. (one two-hour movie.) I'm honestly VERY let down by this, and am thinking I need to cut my losses and sell my MacBook Pro now before the new models come out. The sad thing is, I bought a thousand dollar BENQ 32" 4K monitor to use along with my MBP (I'm a photographer - need the size for editing) and the integration is really not very good, despite what some reviewers have said. All in all, I'm just very very unhappy. The freeze ups are the worst. (and yes, I HAVE lost projects I was working on to these freeze ups, despite saving them.).

      Unless you need to use a particular software that is available only on mac, I will say don't bother spending the extra 400USD to buy one.
      coming from someone who uses both platforms: whatever a mac does, a windows computer can do, and vice versa.

      This is my dilemma. While im not into serious film making, I do own 2 DSLRs, 6 lenses, an old canon S95 and an Olympus TG (for water stuff) im planning to go down the videography road...zhiyun crane M, goPro, G7xII, dji spark...just for travel videos (personal)...all these has to go into a post production software and my researching has lead me to FCPX, which is just available in Apple.
      I have far resisted buying the apple laptops because Im very familar using windows laptops & also know the power of Windows laptops and as they say more bang for your bucks. I do own an ipadmini1 ( the only apple device i ever bought) and it hasnt had any hiccup x 4 years. But Im trying not to buy apple laptop if only there is an equivalent software for the FCPX in the windows world, NOT premier pro which costs a lot, considering i will just making personal travel videos. huhu

    • @HusaynTanyi
      @HusaynTanyi 6 лет назад +3

      Hey! you can get vegas pro or davinci resolve. They are as good as FCPX. vegas is more expensive by 100USD but I heard davinci is free. I haven't used davinci but I can vouch for vegas. even with the extra 100USD it's still cheaper than buying a mac.
      Now that said one aspect in which FCPX destroys every other editor is with rendering time. FCPX is super fast at exporting, however, whichever software you choose will get the job done.
      PS: windows supports a wider viriety of file formats than mac. Especially mts files. do not bring those anywhere near final cut. you MUST convert them first before importing.
      I hope this is helpful.
      Peace!

    I’ve seen the exact same annoying and extremely worrisome screen artifacts and flickering and errors and rebooting - on two brand new MacBook pros. I’ve returned two because they both were doing this. Also was forced to upgrade to High Sierra, and all my devices and graphics tablet became totally incompatible. Couldn’t even plug in a Flash drive on High Sierra. Fucking unbelievable whatever they have done. It’s baffling. Apple is so arrogant these days, they have lost me. Lifetime customer.

      Totally unacceptable for a machine in this price range. I wanted to switch to a Macbook because I've been told it is of exceptional quality, software is reliable and the battery life is excellent. Seems to me these new Macbooks have none of these qualities. The build quality is still excellent, but essentially this is a low spec machine in a nice frame, when you compare it to competitors.

    Fantastic video mate. I'm in such a confused state atm - bought the xps 13 and sent it back after facing some irritating issues (sleep issues, wifi issues, questionable build quality in places), and figured my next choice would be a macbook pro. But I'm finding it very difficult to justify the cost. I'd never go for base model as I'd feel tied down with only 2 ports. Going up to the next tier kills me in terms of what I'd actually be gaining.

      Not sure if you're still in the market, but I went through a similar experience. I bought an XPS 13 because I felt it was good value, but still high end. It had tons of issues. I got a Macbook Pro 2017. It has less storage and a lower-end CPU. I use mine for software development, and basic tasks. For my needs it's been worth the higher cost. I know I can keep it longer than most Windows laptops too.

    • @FerTechCH
      @FerTechCH 7 лет назад +3

      I had the same issue as you, I bought an XPS 15 9550 (biggest mistake) moving out from a MacBook Pro 15 2013 which I sold because I wanted to go back to Windows. The problem is that after testing several Windows laptops, I now want to go back to Mac and I am planning to buy the 2017 15" model. The justification of the price is on the build quality. Period. There is no Windows computer which can compete side by side against a Mac in terms of build quality. Maybe the new Windows Surface Book would be better but some months at least until they announce it again. I am all in into Mac again...at least for now ;)

    • @appleapple143

      If you would compare the surface book to the macbook pro, the macbook pro is better. The price is practically the same, while you get slightly better specs and build quality with the macbook. Both high-end machines, that i am sure would do the job equally good though

    I'm sorry but not even with a Hackintosh i experienced that kind of problems (Apps being randomly closed, red bars etc...) I think you got a defective product. One friend got a MacBook Pro 2015 and it randomly quit apps, got stuck on several tasks, and sometimes went into a gray screen of death. I turned out to be defective, they replaced his mac and now he is very happy with how everything works smooth.
    My friends also do have macbooks and they NEVER experience that kind of problems.
    Come on, not even windows freezes Microsoft Word on these days. Specially with that powerful hardware.
    You should return your mac and do this review again after two months at least.

He instead chose to do a review on a defective product acting as if he doesn’t know that it’s defective. So clearly either he’s a dumb block of bricks or he’s purposely shading Apple

    The negatives you brought up seemed really random and unique to your experience with the computer. I’m pretty sure these aren’t widespread problems since I’ve never heard of the problems you had. I agree with your assessment of the touchbar but other than that it seemed like you were stretching to find any negative to bash on it.

  • @mattelanni

    I’ve never, and i say NEVER, had a problem with a macBook Pro. Never a lag, even on heavier games and programs. Never a bug in the operating systems and never a crash of it. Applications is a thing, the machine another one. If you bought a corrupted machine it doesn’t mean the type of machine itself is a shit. The only reason why people don’t like Apple products is because they are different, nothing similar on the market, and they can only see the negative parts, without looking at the innovative, different, wonderfull things they have. And the fact that Apple brought innovation in the computer world is about history, not opinions.

    North americans, open ur eyes! Apple is just ripping off ur money by its branding! U can buy a same nice looking computer/phone with windows & android. I used to think Apple is king of all techs but not anymore. The pricing became ridiculous, sure products look nice and chic but its not worth that much. The profit margins are really high (iphone x can cost only 200-300 to build but they r selling 999 USD, thats 300% profit margin, exclduing currency rates, tariffs, and duty) Android phones such as oppo might hv slower processor but it costs at least half of tht price at around 500 USD. (Note, 500 USD will only get u an old model of iphone 6s or iphone 7) Good news is u can even afford to change a phone every two years (if ur signing a contract). Laptops such as lenovo or high end acer works the same as a mac. U might argue Mac OS is better but for word processing purposes, i believe its the same. So think twice b4 u purchase another apple product.

    The mistake would be investing in another Windows (lost too many autocad files)

Same with usb, why they on 13" version have only 2usb (minus one for powercord)? I need more direct usb not only one for usb hub, my soundcard have to has its own. shall i pay 400 usd more for touchbar version? Use dongle for audio stream, and usb hub for rest? So sad from apple :((

  • @GeekTherapyRadio
    @GeekTherapyRadio 5 лет назад

    I've been a PC guy since...well the early 90s and my family got a 486 Packard Bell. That said, I am about to buy a MacBook Pro. Probably a 2018 13" with i7 and 16GB RAM. Not to replace my PC, but in addition too it. Mostly for my radio show so when talking about Mac, I have something more than just my iPad.
    The Stockholm Syndrome that sometimes manifests in Mac users is troubling. Any legitimate criticism is met with the PC blame game, defense of Apple, or outright denial. ANY review that contains legitimate criticism of an Apple product lights up the thumbs down counter.
    What's happening is they've spent 1.5x, 2x, or maybe 3x the price for an equivalently spec'd PC and don't want to feel foolish for doing so. Which they shouldn't. And that's my point.
    Apple deserves criticism where it is due. This is to protect US the Apple customer.
    If a $2,000 computer is defective, even in isolated cases, whether it's PC or Mac, it deserves to be exposed. How else will Apple/Microsoft/whoever know to improve?
    This is how we get $2,000 Microsoft Surface Pros with NO THUNDERBOLT 3 and $6,700 Macbook Pros and XPS 15s (though cheaper) that CAN'T physically handle the i9 nor deliver the promised boost performance thereof.
    In other words, making excuses for your team only screws YOU.

      I liked the video, and I don't hate Apple. bandrej x, you should really work on your prejudices. The fact is that Apple has problems with quality control. I never had any Apple product which had no technical problems (hardware, software - don't forgot, Apple is a system seller, not a software company, not a hardware company!) and I buy them since 1997. I can live with it, because the world is not perfect. BUT this has to be spoken out clearly because otherwise Apple thinks they can sell us every crap (and they sold really, really a lot of crap ...).

    Well said my friend, it is 2017 but yet I just still can't be convinced enough to finally buying a MacBook Pro because a lot of reasons some are just like all of its problems you mentioned in this video. So after not having laptop since 2010 (because I never needed one and I've built a powerful windows based desktop) I finally bought an 15'' Alienware R3 2017 to edit videos when I'm away from home, with the specs that more powerfull (1080p, 60hz G-Synch, i7 7700hq,32gb,gtx1070 8gb) compared to a 3500 MacBook Pro but cost me only more than half because of the open box deal although the laptop looks never used at all aka brand freakin new minus the seal on the box that had been broken. So far the Alienware is great! Editing 4K60fps videos with multiple layer of videos, luts, and effects without hiccups! I can't afford MacBook pro with the specs Of my Alienware, so Alienware is a life saver to me and I don't think it's overpriced at all if you can get an open box deal or some holiday sales. Ohh by the way Iam typing on my iPad Pro 12.9 512gb which is very capable of editing 4K60fps clips using luma fusion without problems ;)

      Nah, Windows 10 on my previous laptop was a bug filled nightmare while my 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro has only had 1 bug in which a restart fixed. Also MacOS is far more organized IE Windows has a Live Tile setting and a control panel settings which is kinda stupid while Apple has it in one place.

      Apple is only optimized if you choose to use their software. If you are using Premiere or Photoshop they are pretty much the same. Besides that, if you want a GPU in your laptop Apple won't be the company to choose.

    Take away the fantastic editing and production... I can't agree with this review and I find it very surprising. I really want to say "You got unlucky". MacBook Pro from my experience hardly ever crashes, I've never lost data. I cannot, from my experience relate to the issues you raise. I value the MacBook Pro highly because it enables me to get on with work better than any windows machine. I've owned the Dell XPS, the MS Surface Pro; I couldn't find any better Windows machines and yet this was incomparable to the OSX experience using a MacBook. For reference, I have used windows desktops for 20+ years doing video editing, motion graphics, photoshop. But as soon as I'm portable, I want a MacBook - the Windows machines put the technology in the way of work. The windows interface which I love on a desktop feels pokey and fiddly on portable machines. I gave it a chance though. Been using Windows for the past 2 years but have switched back to Mac. XPS; killed by the trackpad before I could ever take it seriously. Surface Pro 4; had battery drain while idle and sleep/wake up issues. I returned it after a few weeks. I'm aware these problems were fixed a few months after I owned it. This has made me think "what if" however, surface pro is in the same price/performance space as Macbooks and since it still has an inferior trackpad and portable OS, I don't fancy switching.
    I have one single downside to OSX and that is I'm a huge MS Excel nerd and MS Excel sucks on OSX. My charts look terrible and some things just don't render at all.

The fan gets crazy loud when I'm not even doing anything on it (3 tabs tops)... nope, no thanks. I used Apple products from 2007 and came away from them in 2017. Its a great feeling. For too many years I made excuses for Apples BS. Dont get me wrong they make some great gear and their OS is spot on but over recent years there's been a serious lack on innovation. I think back to times when Leopard launched. Completely revamped the OS GUI and introduced around 200 new features quite a few of those were really big features too. I appreciate the laws of deminishing returns but the last few updates to Mac OS have been tiny tweaks.
