Buying a laptop is harder than buying a new car.
At least you can test drive a car.

It's really not worth buying macbooks
I've been watching laptop reviews for WEEKS, trying to decide on my next machine. This is hands down one of the best (for me) reviews I've watched. Clear, concise and truly helpful, using plain language that I can understand. I'm not techy, but I use a laptop every day for work. If I have an issue I can just call IT and, tadaaaa, it's fixed. When it comes to buying my own personal machine for home use, a whole new sphere of understanding my real needs and requirements comes into play. Thanks so much for this...I'm definitely leaning towards the Dell XPS 15, but now I understand why. And that's huge.
Sorry, but it wasn't really a review but a list of things you should look at before you buy a laptop.
Have you heard of Dave 2D?
I agree with everything you said.
Yes that Dell XPS 15 is a nice laptop...or as you like to say, "machine." 😄
So u r a Layman?
this is literally the most useful video i’ve ever watched
*_Watching it in June 2019 and still very relevant._*
Im watching it in Aug 2019
Zahemi AZUL ISLAMI same, im getting a laptop for myself, first time in my life, idk what to get.
@@elangel986 good luck in your findings.. Like he said, look for what we intentionally user for...
Cool. Let's hope you get out more in video land for even more useful info.
It's weird how when you stack that many laptops together, even if they are all really nice and expensive models, together in a pile they look like refurbished junk...
+aaron4820 hah yeah they do
It also looks like "lcd endurence test".. The bottom ones are passed..
aaron4820 I agree with you
my cat is the one in charge of those screen endurance tests; my job's macbook air sadly didn't pass said test, I'm glad the people at IT reported it as a burned screen instead of a cracked one after explaining them what happened hahaha
Perhaps...in the end....they ARE all junk....🤔
Your vocal delivery is right up there if not better than some of the best reviewers/RUclipsrs. Not sure if you script your lines or wing it, either way- terribly smooth and natural.
mostly scripted (the bits where there's B-Roll) - and then to the camera stuff is off the cuff 🙂
The Tech Chap Right. Good luck with everything ahead man. Can tell that you'll be going places.
Great info delivered in such a clear way. This is just what I needed. Thank you!
@@Thetechchap Agreed. Well done. (Just watch that sing songy trap which can lead to becoming monotone...ending on the same note, especially the minor notes. Yikes. I'm sure u know, right!) Cheers!
Funny, I had no idea about laptops before this video, and afterwards the sales guy in the store said he doesn't usually talk to customers as tech savvy as me. LOL!
People are smart. And you are proof. We just need to apply ourselves. Amazing what a little bit of research can do.
Lmao all the boomers piping in with their support is acc hilarious. Cant wait for Humphrey and Agatha to give their 2 cents.
Been looking for a laptop for work and study but had no idea what I was looking for as I'm not really a tech person. Went to a store yesterday and was just overwhelmed by the amount of options available. But this video helped a lot to get a grasp of the basic things I should look for. I don't usually comment on videos for this video, I had to! Keep up the good work!
easier to understand and straight to the point, no need for subtitles. thanks man!
I've been watching videos/trying to find laptops ALL day and this is the most helpful video i've come across thank you!😊
This video just could not be better. The amount of effort you put in to your videos is appreciable
Thank you, Tech Chap. I'm 24 and I was thinking of buying my own laptop, but I didn't know anything about what I should look for (not a tech-head) until I saw this video. Appreciate the help!
Man... thanks a lot! I was clueless before watching this video, it’s helped me a lot
WOW. FINAL SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY MADE IT ALL MAKE SENSE XD
=)
Ive watched about 10 videos on buying new computers and this is by far my favorite!! And probably the only one I actually understood. Thank you for that 🙏
I love when somebody makes short and straight forward video like this one. This has be very educational and helped me a lot to make the decision which laptop to by. Keep up the good work. !!!!
This is so helpful for me. Thank you so much!
Excellent review, I am glad you separated the them by price and range, I see a ton of reviews that just cover high end laptops.
so refreshing as you cut to the chase and dont chat any unnecessary BS! much appreciated
You my friend are an absolute legend you explained everything perfectly using relatable examples and comparisons and have made my choice in what laptop to buy much easier. Never before have a clicked a subscribe button so fast.
This review was super helpful and I will settle for my initial choice of ASUS Vivobook 14. Your language is simple, concise and effective. Thank you!!
It's a good laptop. I have a ryzen 5/vega 8 variant w/ 8gb ram and it's pretty good.
You are my go to guy if i wanna watch something productive or informative, Specially while having food :D
Great discussion on this topic. Just the right mix of technical & non-technical information.
This is one of the best comprehensive tech review videos I've ever watched! Great job man!!
Thought I was the only one having headaches on what machine to buy next,Great review
Always make a point to watch new TTC videos, regardless of the content. I think I joined your channel when you had about 30K subs....I was saying in comments on other tech reviewers' sites that you were the most under-rated. Now seeing you closing in quickly on 200K subs it's cool to see my opinion validated. Keep up the great work!
+Christopher Smith that's really kind of you to say
- thanks Christopher 😊
The Tech Chap hey what laptop will you recommend for uni students thin, light weight n good Battery life
Perfect Video! Got all i need to know about buying my first Ultrabook! Thanks a bunch.
This is by far the best laptop buying guide out there. Thanks Tom!
Excellent video. I bought an HP ENVY with intel core i5 processor and SSD and is more than enough for me. Thanks a lot

Thanks chap, been looking for around 3 months, and this has really helped👍
Brilliant mate, truly superb video! I just went shopping with my brother and literally watched this video before the customer service man explaining things for us and he really went very serious with me thinking i was an IT expert or something. Well, thing went really smoothly later and we bought a good laptop based on the features you mentioned!! Thank you man
I feel like I've watched all laptop reviews on RUclips and this one by far is the best and most useful
This video has been really helpful, thanks man
Why didn't I find this video before I bought my laptop last month? Fortunately I am able to return that one and now I know what to get with next one. Thanks for this video for those of us who are not that tech savvy but want a quality computer!
Clear, concise, extremely helpful & useful video.
I used to consider myself somewhat techy; this video made me realize how much I am not, but now am after watching this video... and then I see you have an updated 2020 video... 😁
Thank you for this clear information. Have just purchased one, but have not taken is out of the box yet. After watching your video, I have confidence that this one is okay. Thanks!!
What laptop did you get, why, what do you use it for, and what’s your opinion on it? A lot of reviews are unboxings where they don’t actually use it for a long time. I’m curious on someone who has used a laptop for a year now, judging on when this comment was posted.
Thank you so much for this informational video buddy!!
Best video ever!!! Came for advise on what what to look for on a new laptop and I’m leaving knowing the differences and meanings of processors and more!! Keep up the good work. New subscriber.
A very well laid-out presentation: very accessible and informative. You communicated your message very effectively, much more so than other channels I looked at. Thank you for this.
So simple and easy to understand really helped me out a lot 👌👌 appreciate it
You explained this so well.. Very helpful
This was your first video i have ever seen , thanks this video was totally satisfying
Honestly, clear and concise outlay and review.
I got Dell XPS 9560 and I love it. The graphic card, the matte full HD screen, the keyboard and the touch pad are excellent. The port selection is great (including 2 USB 3 and SD card reader). This laptop runs quiet and cool at all times thanks to soft, carbon fiber palm rest.
yeah. XPS is a cool laptop.
But the problem is i don't have a money.

I have saved up for 20 high end laptops after a year of work, you can do it dude!
get some then. lol
Exceptionally useful video for getting me up to speed on this stuff. As a general guide. Much appreciated.
your awesome dude, kinda consider myself less knowledge on laptops feels so smart after watching this video, appriciate man
Useful, staight, charismatic. Great review, thanks a lot!
April 2020. Currently watching this while in quarantine. Actually in need of a good laptop so I can try work at home setup after all these.
Thanks for the review 😊

what kind of tasks would you be doing on a daily basis and what screen size preference did you have in mind? the specs of what you need for your specific types of daily usage/workload may vary. for example, if you were to do light to medium gaming or video editing on a 15 inch screen, i'd recommend an i5-i7, 16gb of ram, and a dedicated graphics card with at least 2gb of vram to run okayish in 1080p. A 13 inch screen, you would likely be getting a display that would be 1366x768 and that would need at least an i3/i5, 8 gigs of ram, and dedicated graphics with 1gb vram for light-medium gaming. If you only really browse youtube and do zoom calls, then maybe an i3 with integrated graphics would work but i'd recommend an i5 with dedicated graphics whenever possible. I had an i3 laptop with 8gb of ram previously running intel graphics (128mb of vram modified to use 512mb) and it was just bad at everything. It would struggle to run youtube at 720p at 60fps. multitasking was barely possible and video calls would run HOT + stutter a lot. this video is older so his recommendations are a little out of date. Just stay away from celeron processors, pentium processors, and intel graphics. They only bring suffering.
Loved how you stood away from the stereotypes when it comes to describing keyboards.
Thank you!! This makes it so much easier for me now that I am starting college and I am trying to budget !
Great man really useful video , greetings form Mexico
ASUS VivoBook S15/ Acer ES 15 (i5/MX 150)/ ASUS ZenBook is very good with 8th gen U Intel Processors with i5/i7 and a MX 150(GT 1030) Graphics. Great options for a person wanting a medium range laptop.
Clear, concise & to the point, just what I was looking for, info-wise, thank you kindly!👍🏻
Really really liked your video. I'm watching a good bunch of laptop reviews and I have to say your way to explain what's actually useful or the base line is great! Congrats buddy!!
It's my first day watching your video and, I'm literally amazed. I really apreciated your work. I'm from Africa, exactly from Mozambique, and I and I don't know how to get a touch screen laptop,... But any way, I loved all your explanations about the choice to have a good laptop
Thank you so much for this video! It was incredibly helpful. I am planning to buy a new laptop before going off to univeristy. Chances are that I will buy a Lenovo laptop.
Great job describing so many aspects/characteristics clearly and succinctly.
Thanks. I like videos that go straight to the point and are informative.
Damn! This is alot of info! Much needed though.
I bought a MacBook Air 2018 and so far it’s been amazing for me!!

@TheRBLXnoob GamerDev For gaming, but thats not important

Thanks for this detailed , simple and must needed laptop guide 👍🏻
Such a helpful video, thanks so much for making it!🙂
great video chap!! cheers!
Very well done video. Succinct, informative, practical and easy to understand.
I dont know much about laptops but to me the video was great, a lot of good points to look for. Thanks man!
I think thunderbolt 3 is important as well. It gives you the option of using an external graphics card for gaming on a “non gaming” laptop at home, while being portable and battery saving when you’re out of the house
+alexadelaide true - but I wonder how many people would actually buy an external GPU to use like that
It opens up a lot of other options as well. I connect my tablet to 2 4k panels + power + usb hub with a single cable
I don't see a reason for it as with the money that you can spend on the external gpu case plus the gpu you can buy a low tear gaming computer with like 1030 or 980 and be do with it.
@@MrDragonorp agree, and the they won't utilize the full potential of the GPU
Great 10min briefing, thanks. What about AMD alternatives to Intel's i5?
Simple yet informative
This was all very helpful and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!
0:36 Linux: "Am I a joke to you?"
There are almost no laptops that come with Linux preinstalled (Chromebooks don't count). If you want Linux, just install it yourself
I use Linux for browsing, it’s very snappy. However, I wouldn’t use it as my main OS
I recommend you to duel boot your pc or your laptop.
I am in love with you 💛 I wrote down everything so I am ready for laptop shopping 💻
which one did u get ? 👀
Thank you so much, this video helped me a lot!! Now I at least know what I've gotta look out for ^^
Great video! It’s very clear explained. 😁 I myself use the newest Asus Zephyrus S and can’t be happier.
mac books have good keyboards

You're adorable! (Yeah, I'm THAT person, haha) Really good overview of things to consider, thank you!
thank you man, one of the best tech channels on youtube.
Great informative video. Thanks very much
Buying Laptop, for me. Is like buying something from Mars or Jupiter.
I have absolute no idea what i really need, as i am a total noob in electronics .. SOB
Ditto
Im average while my brother (im a girl using my dad's account) is, a nooooooob
For anyone struggling with this, just go to an electronics store, and ask the laptop salesman "what would he choose for himself, regardless of commission" and they should genuinely help you. I work in an electronics store and while yes, sometimes commission will sway my decision, if I'm talking to a client who's really nice and friendly I will never give them a crappy thing.

Yeah I am still here
This is a resourceful and useful video,Thanks to the creator of the video for making such useful videos.Wish you the best.
Man you are a Life Savior! Thank you for the legit help!
Id say to be careful of the gpus laptops use, for example, the mx 150 comes in two varieties that are branded the same, but one is significantly slower, a 10 watt and a 25 watt version. Also not sure about this, but for ryzen it might matter whether the laptop is running single or dual channel memory. Thus a bit of research on what the laptop is doing could save you from buying something that does not meet your expectations.
I've been watching reviews for a long time. I'm still undecided. Actually, I'm looking for a laptop that can run AutoCAD, Adobe's photoshop, and occasionally any 3d design soft (like 3ds max or sketchup). I was thinking on buying the Matebook X Pro because its portability, but have doubts regarding the graphic card; also I have this alternatives in mind: ASUS ZenBook Flip UX461UN-DS74T, ASUS ZenBook 15 UX533FD-DH74, and the XPS 15 (but it's a little bit over my budget). I wanted to spend nearly 1300-1400 US.
Thanks for your video!!! and it would be great to hear from you!
A year on the void of the internet, and no one (including me) could answer your pleas. I pity you friend.
Ps. Hope you found what you needed.
Thank you so so much for the tips. This has been very useful and of great help to me, as I look to buy my next laptop.
Thanks from Jamaica, excellent video learnt a lot
sent me one the laptop, if u arent using one anymore. cant afford one .😂
@100 subscriber's without any videos challenge I hate to break it to you, but you need one too.
Its my dream .please let my dream come true ....sent me one 😅
If you are on a budget don't overlook second hand. I recently bought a several year old premium laptop for 190 Euro. It has an SSD, IPS screen and even a decent graphics card. I don't see a real need for getting the latest CPU, an i5 of several years back is usually fine for anyone except hardcore gamers and other powerusers. If you don't belong to that group then getting a second hand one can save you several hunderd Dollars/Euros easily.
Kelkschiz completely agree. Refurbished is a great way to save money, especially if it's factory sold.
Can you help me to buy one? I live in Mozambique (Africa) and here is hard to find a good second hand laptop in reasonable price.
Hermenegildo Joaquim buy it on eBay
Hermenegildo Joaquim recommend getting refurbished laptops like from dell

Great video Tom, I've got the Macbook Pro 15" maxed out and it can handle anything I throw at it. I see it lasting for many years to come!
I really do like the Macbook Pro - I'm also getting regularly pissed off with premiere pro so considering a Mac / Final Cut.... maybe. :P
The Tech Chap what do you use right now? The Dell XPS 15? I can't decide whether to get the XPS 15 or Mac Pro
Excellent video. Thanks!
Look for a new laptop of my own, everything you mentioned is spot on so great job. I've talked to a couple of people who work in software and Dell seems to be the brand that is regarded highly
