I think I got a defective product because after lengthy chats with both the Microsoft online assistants and HP online assistants, it was determined that the laptop had a hardware failure. Had to send the laptop to HP for repairs which included a motherboard replacement and a SSD swap (thankfully I had warranty!). Laptop has been flawless ever since.

Why? For $2800 it’s super weak. Obviously specs aren’t everything, but if I’m paying that much for a laptop, I’m expecting much better performance from the GPU than a 5500m which is roughly equivalent to a 1060 max q.
The processor is nice though at least, but if I’m paying that much, I expect everything to be top of the line, not just the CPU.

My Macbook Pro died on me 3 times in 5 years... Display, battery and motherboard. I paid as much in repairs as a brand new laptop. It was never dropped, taken good care of and the worst is it wasn't my primary machine so wasn't used that much. In comparison my parents are still rocking 8-10 years olds entry level crappy windows laptops that still run fine today thanks to replaceable batteries and swappable hard drives (now with ssd).
I work in music events and we use a lot 15" inches for tours since some vjing and sound software is exclusive to OS X, display connection and motherboards dies regularly due to bad heat management.
[EDIT] I don't say all Macbooks are crap, just that they have their (costly) issues. If you're a power user and need a powerful macbook insure the heck out of it because it WILL die from heat.

@@wawa5379 true. i've never owned an Apple product, not beacuse they are bad they are pretty good, but mainly because of the price. apple can literally charge anything and people will buy it. Also i'm not the biggest fan of macOS and iOS, but i could get used to that, i could never get used to being in debt though.
I have an 8 year entry-mid level old Acer and it still works well, i swapped in the SSD and might get a new battery for 20 bucks. this laptop has been through hell and back. the only issue i had with it was the cooler broke 3 years into ownership, but it was under warranty and they fixed it no problems. now my laptop is running a bit hot and i will do a repaste clean the whole interior and i've just disabled turbo boosting for CPU and i'll have it for a bit longer. This is also what i'm missing at apple customization, upgradability and fixing. i broke the screen on my android phone and ordered a replacement one from aliexpres for 20€. replaced it myself and it works as good as new.
I'll probably get a new laptop within a year (my old one has a pretty bad screen now) and it will definetly not be apple. i'll still dish out a reasonable amount of money (was thinking up to 1500) but a macbook with same specs will still cost twice as much

Reddit told me its a manufacturer problem where a screw bends into a ribbon cable for the keyboard. If you take apart your laptop, you can try to un-dent the ribbon with your fingernail or something and it fixes it, but in my case, only temporarily. I even put a thick piece of tape on top of the screw so it wasn't so sharp against the ribbon, issue came back after a month or so.

Throttling. Lots of throttling. I have to use a third party app to control the TDP and temperature limit to go through it (reduces the frames a little, but I don't have to deal with stuttering after 5 minutes of gameplay). Then there's the panel issues. Asus optimizations make your screen look orange (probably some to conserve battery). Had to go to services and disable it. Then there's registry strings that conserve battery and reduce gaming performance (EnableUlps to be specific).
Seems like Asus makes the customers use their devices they want. Most consumers would not spend the time to tweak all of this out (or even find out these problems). Never buying an Asus laptop again.

I remember back when laptops had a thousand different styles. Thin or *THICC,* conventional or 2-in-1, swivel hinge or 360 hinge, tiny or HUGE, little power to BIG power, those exclusively for home and for business, from "purse-able" ultrabooks, to military-spec rugged monsters, to the MASSIVE 21" Acer Predator 21x! Each laptop had its own different style, and you had so many combinations and features to pick from.
Not to sound like a cranky grandpa (I'm nearly a young adult at the time I write this), but nowadays there's just slim laptops and tablets and of course 2-in-1s, and they are all designed to fail within a year or two, forcing you to pay for a brand new laptop when your previous one broke on purpose. Back then, if say your laptop was running short of RAM, just swap out the sticks (making sure your motherboard supported the new sticks). Nowadays companies force you to pay for new devices even if the tiniest module (like one microphone) broke.
It's all about the money and nothing about sustainability. #RightToRepair

Thinkpad: Durable, long term, light gaming and work laptop
Macbook: Not so durable, in beetween short and long term, Comfortable work laptop
Dell laptop: Durable, long term, gaming and work laptop
Acer Aspire: Durable, long term, light gaming and work laptop
Acer Nitro: VERY durable and strong, long term, heavy gaming (not for work because it's heavy to carry)
Alienware: Durable and strong, long term gaming laptop.
Razer Blade: It's literally like all purpose flour, good for everything. Also sturdy and durable.
Huawei: It's basically a knock off version of the macbook
Windows laptops/tablets: These are great for work, you can take off the keyboard and just take the tablet and carry it around. Not sure if they're durable.
Those are the mainly known companies, many laptops have their advantages and problems. If i was gonna choose something for everything, then its the Dell laptops and razer blades, for work choose a windows laptop if you have money and only choose the macbook if you're gonna take the latest version, if you do not have the money then choose a Thinkpad or Acer Aspire. For gaming, choose the Acer Nitro. Costs around 700 dollars but it does a great job.
Edit: If i messed something up, you can correct me in the comments.

You can love or hate Apple products but you have to give them that their costumer service as a manifacturer is a million times better than anyone elses. When I had a iPhone my finger print button stopped working after like 9 months. I made an appointment ready to fight them to death for my rights but when I went there they asked me if I have an iCloud backup, I said yes. Then the guy vanished for a few minutes and came back with a brand new iPhone and just gave it to me like that "Here you go". It literally took like 10-15 minutes and I had a brand new device and I used mine for like 9 month, it had scratches on the back and whatnot. Saying that I was impressed is an understatement.
But now they are hopelessly overpriced and its gets worse year by year. Also while some products are still great (like their iPads), other products are behind the competition. Other companys make beautiful, well build devices now too. They need to overthink a lot when it comes to their Phones and Computer/MacBooks. As it is now they want more and more money for their products while they just aren't that special anymore and have more problems than their older devices (bad keyboards, thermal problems etc).
But at least their service is still top-notch (you know, like their phones have top notches too hihi). Thats pretty much the only reason I would still buy something from them, at least when its heavely reduced in price.
