12:34 That's actually not the Google Assistant either, Google removed assistant from there and called it just "Google Voice Search" ... Not surprising...
This is because Google wants a clear delineation between Gemini /AI answers and Google search (fact based research). Google seems two unique methods of attaining info
@@Matt-bp5vy ikr, I usually ignore any AI and still ignore chatgpt to this date but Gemini is better in the way of its integrations... I'm not just typing to an AI, I'm getting valuable help in almost no time
I really like the screenshots app feature as someone who takes thousands of screenshots per year for information sake. However i am surprised too that they didn't just add this to google photos.
The whole Gemeni vs Google Assistant mess smells like they were built by two different teams inside Google and fighting a turf war ("No, the Assistant logo must be shown if you are passing through commands to us from Gemini..."), surfacing this to the end user is super bad UX and should never happen. Also, releasing without the latest version of Android is also a hilarious joke. 😂
Its true though when you think about it. Users will boast that their 'nice' photo claiming to be "unedited" yet so many layers of AI stuffs slapped on the photo right after you click the shutter button.
What is a picture, but just an idea of shapes mixed with curiosity to understand and discover our will to choose what is right through our own perspective.
i’m doing research for this phone i’m going to switch from using apple after a decade and want all the information but can you help me and explain what you mean by this?
In short, replacing the original Android with GrapheneOS is a feat for advanced users, and it would obviously remove anything Google added to it - like AI features, constant background listening and so on.
I've been watching youtube tech videos for well over a dozen years now and watching this channel for as long as I could remember. I don't even use Android phones. But I like watching reviews to see what's out there. Anyway, this is the most well-done video I've ever seen, ever, on youtube. The story arc, the deliberate colors, intro, transitions - it is absolutely freaking stunning.
My hope is, if the screenshots app works as both a product and a part of the routine, they add a choice to stop showing screenshots in the main pictures app, and keep them separately at screenshots.
20:00 I don’t agree. Screenshots should’ve never been among the photos to begin with. Why would you want screenshots to clutter your camera photos? Additionally, this allows google to add more features screenshot related. And sure you can do that in photos as well, but that makes the photos app more complex.
not only the samsung, but also the IQOO 9 SE has that fingerprint reading capability when the display is completely off, I didnt think about it until you mentioned this in the video.
I truly believe that Google messed up the presentation of its Pixel 9 line up, for this: 1. They need to compete with premium hardware and it really looks that this year they nailed it, but didn't emphasised that in the presentation. 2. Instead, they dedicated most of the time to show "AI features" (software) that nobody asked them, and they did it on a SAMSUNG phone. There is not a Pixel exclusive thing other than the hardware which was not the main attraction of the event. So, at this point, Google needs to work in their marketing material, letting know that their hardware is the best, or Pixel exclusive features, like the Pixie assistant that was rumored or its ecosystem. The unique problem is that "exclusive" is not an Android mainstay or philosophy. Nice vid!!
Pixel and Android teams have now merged internally under one giant product area managed by the same person - Rick Osterloh. Google is really trying to push android as a whole now and have fortified partnerships with the likes of Samsung. Get used to seeing android more entertwined with pixel going forward. Lastly, google is trying to train people/ audience / reviewers from focusing on raw power and hardware and more so the user experience.

Google doesn't care that much about the just the pixel they want android to kill the iphone
They are not trying to make the best phone from HW point of view. They cannot really do it. Very small total phones revenue when compared to Apple. It is more important that the Pixel phones do not get discontinued.

Still watching this review and already bought the phone. Wanted to point out the Pro / Pro XL options. Im 100% someone looking at a non-XL pro. The typical Pixel XL/Pro size is just a little big for using my phone with one hand, makes me strain my thumb. The regular Pro is just the right size.
24:00 Hey Marques, one quick question, why is it that big tech youtubers like you doesn't nitpick charging speed for Iphone, isn't that having much lower charging speed (around 30W i guess) compared to any other equivalently priced phone ?
@@10kmilesy So when the biggest tech reviewer on the planet reviews the new iphone .. he is reviewing it as an iphone or as a smart phone in general ? I mean like that never stops them from comparing it to other phones over cameras for an example
At this point Apple vs other phones comparisons are like apples to oranges. Apple will do what it wants to do and people will buy it no matter what competition is doing at all. So I guess it doesn't matter at what speed the iPhone charges because it doesn't have to compete with other phones, but pixel has to have a fast charging when Samsung and Oppo Vivo of the world already have fast charging.
niiiice, counter to the temp sensor. One of my kids was sick and I was putting them to sleep and I forgot to bring our thermometer to their room before they fell asleep in my arm. Luckily had my pixel 8 pro with me so scanned and got a good temp reading. Later I compared between our dedicated forehead scanning thermometer to the pixel 8 pro and they were pretty much identical in results. (plus the pixel 8 pro was storing the readings so I could look at the historical scans if I was monitoring the kiddos readings consistently)
I have a Pixel 5a 5g and I'm not changing it for the Pixel 9 mainly for the rear fingerprint scanner that works even if the phone screen is off. I work in a mall telling people prices of products in our stores (3rd world country, high inflation, lot of price changes), and I use my phone all the time to scan Bar Codes for prices. I need to reliably take my phone out of my pocket at the same time I'm unlocking it with the rear fingerprint scanner. For the last 5 year I've been watching new Pixel videos, and they all fail to achieve that task. If my phone ever breaks out, I already have another pixel 5a 5g sealed ready to use.
yeah the crapy fingerprint sensor on my pixel 7 made me never buy a pixel phone again. Unbelievable how a company was able to build such a miserable toy into a high-priced device, without getting punished by the buyers. I kept my pixel 7 because of the cam and some other slick features, but such pathetic fail by design, will not trick me twice.

Just a note, the fingerprint sensor does read with the screen off - it just has to have always on turned on and then it works like Samsung. This is such a beautiful phone. Google really nailed the design!
Classic Google move to have Gemini and Google Assistant overlapping. They're the masters of having products that compete with their own products only to kill off whichever one is least successful causing a wave of chaos for the people that used it.
They need to honestly reorg their entire workforce. These people have ZERO idea how to run product development. It's actually a miracle they were able to release a decent phone this year

Same for the thermometer. It only works on humans if you are located in the United States. Stuff like this just belongs in a review.

Thank you for the video, Marques. As always, nice presentation and honest review. Love it! I am a girl and I am a huge fan of Google. Everything started with Nexus phones and I loved them each time I got a new one. Stable solid phones for Android users. Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 5x, Pixel, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 5 got stolen, but I could locate it with Find me, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8A. My working colleagues wanted to buy my Nexus 5 when I used it once with a lot of money as it was and is a flagship of its times. My family uses Pixel as I thaught them, easy menu and settings. The only issue my Pixel 8 has is the camera, when you swipe it for video in wide mode, it is losing its stabilization and focus, same with pictures, focus and macro not working well. Pixel 8A has a greener screen and that one, i don’t like it. I loved Pixel 5 camera, it was the best, no issues, clear, natural and good focus. Happy to make reviews for google if they ask me too. 😅

Perfectly said, by far the best review, and I too am not a Pixel user. I view. Learn. Am entertained. And go to back to my iPhone 16 pro Max.

Pixel buds pro 2 review, please. I already started using it, but somehow I feel the need to watch your review :D
I truly believe that Google messed up the presentation of its Pixel 9 line up, for this:

24:00 Hey Marques, one quick question, why is it that big tech youtubers like you doesn't nitpick charging speed for Iphone, isn't that having much lower charging speed (around 30W i guess) compared to any other equivalently priced phone ?
iPhone get a lot of pass from big RUclips accounts
I think it's that iphone users are simply not there for the charging speed. Apple basically have their own market
So I guess it doesn't matter at what speed the iPhone charges because it doesn't have to compete with other phones, but pixel has to have a fast charging when Samsung and Oppo Vivo of the world already have fast charging.

niiiice,
counter to the temp sensor.
Badly miss the rear fingerprint scanner. Went from pixel 3 to pixel 6 pro which doesn't have it. That sensor was excellent never failed to work.
yeah the crapy fingerprint sensor on my pixel 7 made me never buy a pixel phone again.
