      I wouldn't worry about burn in. I've had my CES 2016 limited edition Hewlett Packard x360 Spectre with 1440p OLED since well CES 2016 so that's 3½ years now, and I use it as my main driver for at least 10 and in most cases 14 hours every single day. There's no hint of burn in at all. Literally none.

      Same here, I only replaced my >10 year old Razer Lycosa Mirror a few months ago because I could get a great deal on a Corsair K70. It's still in perfect working shape and it barely shows any signs of wear and tear.
      My equally old Razer Mamba (1st gen) was only replaced 2 years ago because my GF saw me looking at a video Linus did about the Logitech G502 and bought one for my birthday. Though the battery became too bloated due to hydrogen accumulation to be usable after 7 years and it showed some heavy wear marks, it travelled back and forwards between my dorm and my parents house every weekend for over 5 years and was still in perfect (wired) working order.
      In all fairness, I did go through 2 Razer Krakens before replacing either of them and that headset was only released in 2012, by then both my mouse and keyboard were 3 years old. Though they also accompanied me on my weekly trips.

    • @Vortex1988
      @Vortex1988 5 лет назад +33

      I'm starting to get sick and tired of Linus ragging on OLED displays due to burn in. I've had an OLED TV from LG for at least three years. It was only their second generation of OLED tv's, and I've only experienced burn-in once after watching a reposted Joe Rogan podcast that was 4+ hours long. It had a bright purple logo in the corner of the screen. When I switched to another video, you could still see what looked like a photo negative of it. I turned off the TV, and went to do something else. I turned it back on the next day, and the logo was gone. In three years, I've only seen it happen once, after 4+ hours of a static image being displayed, and it was completely gone the next time I turned on the TV. Burn in is not an issue, and complaining that your laptop doesn't have enough battery life to run 4k is ridiculous. No gaming laptop has enough horsepower to competently run 4k anyway. Don't blame OLED because you're trying to run 4K on a laptop. People are acting like they'd rather see the best display technology on the market just go away. It's like they'd rather have shitty quantum dot and local dimming displays that make your windows cursor look like you turned on accessibility mode. I'll never understand why people prefer an atrocious amount of backlight bleed over the mythological cryptid that is burn in.

    • @tonymorris4335
      @tonymorris4335 5 лет назад +5

      @@Vortex1988 Same with people shitting on 4k on a laptop screen. The pixel density is perfect so that you don't even need AA and everything you do looks round and clear as hell. It PERFECTLY aligns 4:1 for 1080p so gaming at 1080p will not look funny due to running below the native resolution. It just turns every one pixel into 4 pixels and is functionally identical at that point. I wouldn't buy a 1080p phone again and I won't buy another 1440p or lower laptop after having one that's 4k now.

    • @Vortex1988
      @Vortex1988 5 лет назад +16

      @@tonymorris4335 Lol, depending on the screen size you can't even tell the difference. 1080p for phones is perfect. I prefer the battery life over the extra pixels I won't be able to notice anyway. 4K is seriously overrated, especially on either a laptop or phone. OLED is way more of an experience than 4K ever will be.

    • @MarkusRessel
      @MarkusRessel 5 лет назад +1

      @@Vortex1988 I agree, I would like to have both though by changing the rendering resolution dynamically on a 4k amoled screen so videos and games (or stuff I choose) render at 4k and the rest at 1080p or 1440p. That doesn't solve the power problem though but for me that would be an acceptable midway.

      @Luka Stemberger 95%? I don't know, man. Every game with a mouse cursor or 3d graphics benefits a high refresh rate display. And basically anything with moving objects looks nicer. If you're playing text based games, then sure, but i don't think they are majority of games in 2019. And i've gotta also say i'm not so sure how much a 4k resolution benefits your gaming performance or experience in a laptop. Just my opinion though.
      EDIT: I know you said 4k benefits productivity, not gaming, and you may have a point there. Though i'm not sure how much benefit there is at this screen size.

    This is going to be different for every consumer, but if you are not worried about maximizing your "win/loss" ratio is some twitch reflex based, competitive game, you don't need to worry about going above 60hz. I haven't played on a laptop in over 7 years, but the NUMBER ONE thing I would worry about, mostly because it's often overlooked in favor of GHz, GB/s, etc., is how well the laptop deals with heat. It doesn't matter how big the numbers are; if the laptop gets to hot it's gonna stutter which is a much more annoying issue than not having above 60fps.

    That 1 year burn-in test from Rtings you showed was a lifesaver when I was shopping for a TV and considering the LG OLED. Before it, I wasn't sure how realistic burn-in concerns were. It convinced me to buy one, because burn-in basically isn't a problem unless you are really, really, really on the outer edges of weird usage. Basically if you're not watching a single news channel 24/7/365, you won't have any issues. You mentioned HUDs in games, but they tested that. No burn-in from that. Not even any burn-in from score displays on sports channels (which surprised me, they seemed similar to the logos from news channels but I guess they change often enough). I would be worried about PC use, though. Hell, I have visible burn-in on my Asus ProArt LCD panel I'm using right now, a permanent dark bar on the right because of RUclips.

    Summed up well. I had a Alienware 13" OLED as my last laptop and the screen was simply amazing. It breathed life into all of my games (partially due to high density of 1440p at 13" but of course the OLED). Nearly every game looked far better than it did on my 34" 1440p UW monitor (which is damn good itself). With that said I wanted a bigger screen (especially 17") and the lack of high refresh rate really limits the gaming experience. Smoothness is so important. I would have preferred 1080p and a high refresh date.
    I ended up trying an Asus gx701 that was fantastic but the new gen of CPUs came out so returned it and then got a ge75 i9 2080. The full 8 core CPU + full laptop 2080 I just couldn't pass up.

And yeah sure I have to get REALLY close to make out a single pixel, but it's not about seeing the pixels, it's about sharpness from a normal distance. Depending on the games you play, OLED can actually be better. Stuff like Skyrim, RDR2, AC Odyssey, Persona 4, Yakuza, etc, I would rather play on an OLED than a faster refresh (and slower response) IPS. The contrast and color is breathtaking.

The only thing they have going for them is compactness, but then that affects thermals. It doesn't even have a full keyboard. It's a gaming laptop that isn't really made for gaming.

      This is why we need blackbox to keep being developed. You can literally set it up to have NOTHING showing - no task bar, dock, icons, nothing. If you added a feature to make an idle mouse cursor disappear, you can set the background as black, and the screen would be fully, uniformly dark at rest. With blackbox set up like that, you can properly maximize windows, and if you were to add fullscreen (chromeless UI) to everything, the likelihood of anything being absolutely uniform and constant enough to burn in becomes the fault of the user.

    Hey not sure if anyone will see this that could help w my new OLED Razer Blade But here goes.
    So all seems nice besides the fact that I can see on the top & right far side of my OLED screen it is bleeding it seems. I thought OLED does not bleed but something is up.
    If I put a say all purple wallpaper you can CLEARLY see the solid color CHANGING to a lighter purple the farther right of the screen you go.
    Now that i've noticed it I can't stand it. Is this something that can be fixed w a new calibration or do I need to send it in for a replacement?
    I thought OLED panels did not have bleed but this one does have some type of color issue & it just came today :(
