- This is going to be a video series about an impacted canine getting a braces treatment at Tooth Time Family Dentistry!
When a tooth fails to emerge through the gums, it is considered to be an impacted tooth. This commonly occurs in the case of canine teeth.
It is important to treat an impacted tooth in order to prevent the improper eruption of nearby teeth, cyst formation, possible infection or other negative changes in the jaw.
In order to determine the correct treatment for you, your dentist will examine your teeth and radiographs to determine the position of the impacted tooth as well as the condition of your gums. One of the treatment options is to surgically expose the tooth in order to guide it to the right position in your jaw. In most cases, you will need to have space created in your jaw through orthodontics prior to the surgical treatment.

I have the same thing! I had surgery last year for it and it sucked, but now I can almost get my braces off! I'm so excited!

Thats so awesome! You just motivated me. I had to do this for 3 canines. Both the lowers and the right. One of the lowers has fully grew in. Now waiting on the other 2!! Did you do anything to accelerate the process?

I think that when we get the wires replaced, right before it is put on I think would be a good time to brush our teeth. It would be easier to keep clean if we do it that way.. no? I think it would be a good idea. Why don’t we already do this?
It definitely is. I have all my patients give them selves a good brush at every adjustment..😁

So, I've been using ATP for s few months, the upper premolar in the right side ( which should have been kept still as opposed to the other upper premolar in the left side) now is at a lower level compared to the other teeth. Like now sits lower than all teeth. What could it be? Hope it makes sense
Hello i gonna have my teeth extract soon for braces so my doctor give me option on which teeth to extract but i wasnt sure , she told me it either i choose my high canine or premolar to be extract so i wasnt sure :") she told me if i was to choose my canine to be extract shorter time of braces but im not sure what will happen and im still confuse since im not sure yet

I have impacted canine my dentist had removed the milk canine teeth but the adult canine teeth didn't come down yet its been 2 and half years and I am so tired and stressed if I stop the process means the growth of adult canine teeth will Stop and my braces will be tightened

Hey doc I have a question.Only a small tip of my upper left K9 is visible and there is more than enough space for it.My ortho put like a little brace on it to help it come down faster but it hasn’t even moved a cm in over a month.What do you think this means?Do you think there might be other possible cause that this teeth wont come down.I had braces for 7 1/2 years now and I am both physically and mentally tired.Pls answer… Thanks in advance…

I have the same thing I went to my orthodonitist yesterday and she told me that I might have to get surgery because my baby canine is still there and I already have an Adult canine.
My mother I quite worried that the surgery might go wrong but after that um getting my braces my baby canine is there and the Adult canine is growing really fast. But I don't think it should be that bad.

I’m legit getting my top braces on today and they said right after I have to have 4 teeth removed but on my bottom braces they already have gaps and I haven’t removed my teeth yet I have gotten 5 different opinions from different drs they all said I need to Remove them I’m freaking out 😭
I also have braces on...I got extracted 2 premolars teeth in uper side and to be honest it's very comfortable ...If you want a good smile then go for it ...✌️🙌

omg same my canine is like stuck in my gums you can’t see it or anything but in the x-ray you can see the canine it’s my left side the first orthodontist said that we would have to remove the canine since it isn’t even out my gums yet but then we went to different orthodontist and they said that according to the x-ray there is a chance we can bring it down and not remove teeth and the last orthodontist told us the same thing we can create space since i don’t have space and do surgery in my gums to be able to see the teeth and bring it down and i’m scared asf bc i’m like 14 and like teen years i don’t wanna look weird with a gap in my smile 😭 bc they’re all straight it’s js that canine and bc of that missing canine my smile goes one way rather than the other side so i’m also insecure about that idk what to do tho 😭
@@julianab1388 okay this is an update i’ve had my appointment today and they decided to not extract any teeth any time soon. they said they’re unsure about what they’re gonna do but they put this coil on my teeth to move those over because my midline on my teeth isn’t straight.

@@riyahf3481 omg😭 they doing us dirty bro but yes def get another orthodontists opinion that’s what i decided to do cs when i heard they were gonna extract my teeth i was like oh hell nah💀 plus removing ur teeth would be a last option thing that’s what the third orthodontist told my mom bc they’re so many ways to create space and attempt to bring the tooth down like a pallet expander that widens ur jaw to create room for other teeth or a coil spring within ur braces asw and i’m pretty sure there is another way, my midline is also off my top set of teeth go more to one side and it’s annoying 😞😞
Its been 7 years that i am wearing braces this year i'll be turning 21 and because of one tooth that its not growing back since i have removed my milk tooth i am stuck with these braces my dentist all he says is to wait . I don't know how to deal with this problem

My 14 year old has impacted canine teeth but the orthodontist said she may lose her front tooth. My level of stress and anxiety is through the roof, looking at this gives hope but why is the spacer not being mentioned to me? Also how old is the girl in the video because if she’s younger maybe she’s getting it before she gets older?

She’s now 15 and the right canine is coming out in front of the second tooth next to the front tooth. The left canine has yet to come out. I’m glad to hear about your journey coming along I wish you the best and it sounds like your process is really moving along. I was suppose to take her two months ago but life is pulling me every way possible. She hasn’t went yet, but I also thought about if it’s so demanding or dangerous why isn’t this covered by regular insurance? This case isn’t “normal” then why isn’t it free”? Thank you Thank you and please come back here once you make more progress to tell me.
@@jaiden4393 I’m glad to hear your journey is coming along, sounds good! I was making a joke about the insurance and why it doesn’t cover it since it always sounds like an “emergency” when we go, lol. So the doctors always make it sound as if it has to be right away and can’t wait, like when she went a year ago he (the doctor) wanted to remove teeth and then the canine will come out or they can cut the gum, use a chain, and then let the canine down. The problem is space so I told them it sounds like it’s a matter of her jaw growing or correcting the underbite to make space. But ultimately I said no let me see if they will come out on their own and well at least one is. I’m concerned the other hasn’t yet but it has no space so hearing stories like yours help me deal with my final decision or wait to see. Thank you for sharing your case because I don’t want to make a decision she’ll regret later. I will do a follow up for her soon to see what they think of the progress now.

it doesn’t hurt to get braces on it just hurts for a bit after you get them on so that’s why you don’t need a numbing needle

I’m at the point where the tooth came out enough to burn off the tissue surrounding it and place a bracket on it and attach the wire. Even now I don’t notice much movement and now he’s trying that and an elastic on the canine and the last tooth before my molars. I’m worried that it fused to the bone and he even said that it’s a possibility
