Damn that is like trading in a turd for a piece of platinum, will you be doing a tablet review on your channel when you get it?? Love your content btw!
The general rule with Apple products are this....you don't "need" to upgrade for at least 4+ model line upgrades. You won't notice a performance upgrade if you go from one or two generations, not even in the slightest for the most part. I've been using my iPad Air 2 since it was released and it's just now at the point where it really needs an upgrade. Very good review, well done sir!
Advertisement always makes things look more interesting than they really are. Thanks for sorting out the noise. I don't have an iPad and have been unsure what to look in to hopefully the prices drop more on the older versions of I catch a sale. Thank you, Teoh.
Yes, the Refurb Ipad is very good deal. They're fixed by Apple themselves and they work good as new. Or you can go with the Air or the new regular Ipads, they work with the Apple pencil too.
I actually got an iPad Pro 2 weeks ago with Apple Pencil. I was always a lil anti apple but..the pen performance is unbeatable. I had a Samsung device before that and a surface pro 3 before that and some pen tablets but nothing comes close to the Apple Pencil. I am the happiest artist now lol. Best purchase i have ever made.
Some corrections for you, a laminated display has no air gap between the coverglass and LCD panel, they are fused together by optical lamination. The display with typical non HDR use is roughly 650 nits, HDR video content has 1,000 nits of full screen brightness and 1,600 nits of peak brightness.
I upgraded from a 2017 model, and the improvement is hands down worth it. I purchased the 2017 12.9” on launch day, so I had used it daily for drawing and basic computing for four years (less a month when it was down with a broken screen). The M1 blows the A12 out of the water, the A12Z of the 2020 model, maybe not so much, but the difference with 16 gigs of ram in my 1TB model, with the M1 is amazing. It is faster than my 1.5 year old Intel I7 laptop with 16GB of ram. The new screen is fine, it isn’t any better or worse unless you are using it for HDR content, which, let’s face it, is not everything, although it is a pleasure for HDR photo editing. You are right, however, I also prefer the screen on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Nice level headed review. I am happy with my purchase, and I can recommend the tablet, but it really is only a huge step up if you are coming from a home button level iPad Pro.
hi! thank you so much for your review, I was looking for someone who is upgrading from 2017 model for so long. my most concern is about battery life, is it really that good on 2021 version? my 2017 10.5" only handles 4 hours top, really annoyed with this
@@tweedpenguin712 you mean to say 11" is CHEAPER and will outsell the 12.9. For 3d modeling, and art, the 12.9 is better. @18:06 2021 iPad Pro is $300 more - they raised it an additional $100 over the 2018 and 2020 12.9” compared to the 11”, and considering the 11” and 12.9” both use M1, the additional $100 price increase must be for the Mimi LED backlight! I’ll stick with my 2020 12.9” especially since the brightness only really gets brighter for HDR - and Thank You for the Streaming HDR tip - I had no idea it won’t display the brighter display for downloaded HDR content, why is that? Has Apple offered any explanation why? Great vid!
Yes, this is not a de facto upgrade for artists. It is more about the usual cycle of upgrades and if you are in the market for a new tablet, say your old 2016 iPad Pro is looking a bit worse for wear, you are getting the latest and greatest. YT influencers downplay it, but Apple is simply giving the best they can for consumers in 2021, extra speed, the latest display, Thunderbolt, new front camera, M1 chip, more RAM, there is no reason to be negative as no one is forcing anyone to upgrade from a previous iPad Pro, but if you want this will be great. The problem with many YT influencers that they follow the yearly cycle and base their conclusions on the previous iPad Pro when most of us upgrade every 3-5 years! The caveat is that no conclusion should be final until we see what iOS 15 and WWDC offers specifically for the M1 iPads.

I am not sure what Celsys would do if M1 iPad Pro can run desktop version of clip studio paint EX? Will the subscribers be refund as the credit to buy materials?
I will Not recommend using the 12.9 on a plane. I sometimes bring my 12.9 out but I always set it down on a table in a cafe or restaurant, library. With a rugged case and stand. If you want to paint/draw handheld then get the smaller one.
Get yourself a Sketchboard Pro stand Teoh. They’re a bit overpriced, but amazing - so much better than the Parblo, which I also have. The ergonomics are brilliant - your hands/wrists can rest outside the iPad and so you can use the entire screen rather than just in the middle, and you can draw much better from the elbow. Not sponsored!
I saw those. But it's not suitable for me because I don't have such big space for that stand. If I need space to rest my hands, I just put the iPad Pro towards the left side of the stand. So far I haven't felt the need to do so.
I guess upgrading for something that isn't that much of a major leap is not reasonable, unless you want to be in the crowd with those "I got an apple status symbol" lol. I never wanted an apple product, but my project / tasks requires me to do a lot of manual designs apart from web development, i was forced to get one of these, and i say its a good tablet though not an m1 but a 2020 model still good enough for me.
Drunken Balloon--hahahahaha! Thankyou for this entertaining and very thorough review. You always cover everything I need to know and answer all of my questions before I can ask them. It may be hot and humid in Singapore right now, but it's a fascinating city.
Thanks for the Review. Im still using my IPadPro first Gen. from 2015 and im finally considering to switch to a new one. Im an illustrator and I use it professionally daily and even with its 30GB it did its job wonderfully. (and still does! it just gets laggy sometimes). Compared to mine, even the ipad air 4 is crazy overpowered. It makes me wonder if I really need an IpadPro for my work considering the price compared to the air.
Did you end up upgrading? I have the same iPad Pro 1st gen, and although apps still work well on it, the battery life is getting worse day by day 🥲😭 I wanna upgrade to one of the M1 iPad pros this year, ideally the 12.9” cos I do illustrations and artwork but the portability is turning me to the 11” Could you tell me your experience?
I'd be really interested in seeing a side by side comparison with the s7+, especially in direct sunlight, if that's a video that you'd be interested in making?
Well I am glad I stayed with what I have based on your vid. Hey I recently saw your video on manganese and I have a workhorse blue that is close to cyan and I use it to mix every green, a purple, desaturated greens and it’s compliment is pyrrol scarlet. I also loved the color Cerulean but not the granulation in my skies. It is the underrated but beautiful PB16. My mixes are totally comparable with convenience mixes of green gold, sap, forest and one couldn’t tell the difference if they were DS and the neutral is amazing. I totally encourage you to try it with nickel azo yellow and maybe quinacridone gold. I use quin magenta to make purple which is crazy because it is a cool tone and I love the more realistic desaturated greens with raw and burnt sienna. Well I use DaVinci’s because I like the gradation more but DS has the pigment but they call it phaloblue turquoise instead of phaloturquoise like DaVinci. I would love to see what you think. My manganese and Cerulean came off my palette.
wait for WWDC the apple event in 2 days , they will introduce ios 15 , then if u see any feature that u need or want and only work on M1 , the only reason to get ipad pro is 12.9 version , if ur getting 11 inch version , just get Ipad air 4 , its bassicly the same
Great review, quite comprehensive. Many thanks. I'd like to ask if you've used Wacom Cintiq in your work before and, if so, how does that compare to the M1 in your experience in terms of user-friendliness, integrity of rendering, usefulness of features and quality of output?

Hello Teoh, I just subscribed to your channel. I love your work. I'm expecting my ipad pro 12.9" soon and would like a glass screen protector. Can you recommend one that does not affect the drawing accuracy? For example I've seen other users comment that wavy lines are the result in procreate with a glass protector on. Would appreciate your feedback.
@@teohyc thanks for your reply. I'll have to do some more research. I think the thickness of the glass creates the issue with wavy lines when using more precise brushes.
I stumbled upon your channel after looking for ipad reviews and your content is amazing and so helpful for artists! I really wanna get this bag but I'm just worried about the size. Do you think this would still fit the 12.9 even with a thick case? I'm using the Zugucase specifically.
Where is the menu to enable palm rejection? The menu you show on your screen, I can't find and I have the exact same tablet as you. It's not under my General settings. *** I found that I can, instead, set the Apple Pencil to "Only draw with Apple Pencil". Your fingers will only scroll.
should I get 11 inch ipad pro 2021 128 gb or ipad air 4 256 gb? I want to use it for taking notes, learning to draw, and playing Genshin Impact. I've been wanting the rose gold ipad air 4, but I hear people say there is latency. I'm a student so I get discount and free airpods but it ends on tuesday lol
Hi Teoh! I'd like to ask about the edge shadow on the 12.9 M1, does that affect so much when you drawing? And do the shadow only appear when the background is white only or it tend to appear on white and all light colors? (Like when you zoom in your image with a lot of colors, do the shadow still appear on the edges?) I've been thinking to order the 12.9 inch M1, but have doubt after I saw the shadow problem. I'll be using the ipad mostly for drawing and designing.
Matte surface if you want the textured feel while drawing. Or just a clear screen protector so that it won't affect the image quality like the matte screen protector. Or if you get a flip cover, you may not need a screen protector
Hi and good morning (Italy time)… a bit lazy today! Thanks as always to contribute to this mad technical electronic world (I’m still with mini 4) with words and beautiful sketches!!! But about this video I’m getting crazy for your hat…: where did you buy it? Thanks 🙏
In considering between purchasing an 11 and 12.9 with 256GB iPad Pro: when comparing the completion of the same exact illustration on both sizes, will the size of the iPad Pro make a difference in how many layers you can create? Also, does the size make a difference for upgrades and adding new apps like Photoshop? Thanks for doing this informative video!
The thing I have learnt is that the biggest the camvas the less layers you will be able to use,so internal ram is very important,(in M1 pro it's 8GB),ao if you have a bigger display you are gonna have less layers to work with. But I don't think size influences the upgrades you want to do
How often do you use this under the sun? Very often. In real life video editing the new iPad isn’t actually faster, some cases slower. Definitely not worth the upgrade for that, but the screen is lovely.
Hi Teoh! Do you have any thoughts on the new Apple Pencil/ Hover Pencil option for the iPad Pro M2 while using Procreate? Is the Hover feature a "must have" , or maybe not so much? I'm new to the iPad as well as Procreate, but, I've been a professional painter (acrylic on canvas), for decades. I'm hoping Procreate is great for the drawing/sketching I want to be able to do digitally. Thank you!
Hover should benefit painters as you can see the size of the brush strokes before you paint. Since my is mostly drawings, I won’t benefit much from hover. Many artists have used Procreate without hover for years
@@teohyc Thank you! Your videos are very helpful, and I have subscribed. Now I get to decide on weather to purchase an 11" or a 12.9". At 6 feet, 215lbs, with decent sized hands, it's still something I'm debating. I'd mostly use it for sketching at a desk, on a stand, at an angle. Not so much on the go, outside. -Bryan
I’ve got an iPad 10.2 and am really debating on upgrading to this one, but to use it not just as an iPad for drawing but also as a “computer” for school, what storage size should I get? I’d love the 2T but that’s a lot and it would take me a whirl to save up, but idk if that’s overkill for storage?
2TB is overkill. How much storage really depends on what you do so it’s difficult for me to say. As for a computer replacement, there will be some limitations, same limitations as the iPad 10.2. I’m not sure if I will recommend the 12.9 M1 model. If you can, go to the refurbished section on Apple website and look for the 2020 model which is more worth the money.
11 Inc version is 10 thousand units in my country and the minimum wage is 2000 units, so a person has to starve for 5 months to get it, so it is very difficult to access technology in my country, do you know which country? ..... ✨Turkey✨. And I don't like my country in general
@@yokokurama5174 - Not yet. Most of the Apps are not quite optimized to take advantage of the higher specs. Most Apps haven't yet fully take advantage the A12 processor. in fact Procreate just only recently fixed their bugs with the 2021, but the fix made it just similar with the old one. Thunderbolt for now is still the same speed with old USB C but they're fixing the bugs. In Gaming it seems to be running a little better than the 2018-2020. If you are on the often, 11-inch is good. 12.9 needs to be set on a surface most time to be comfortable to use
I will Not recommend using the 12.9 on a plane. I sometimes bring my 12.9 out but I always set it down on a table in a cafe or restaurant, library. With a rugged case and stand.
If you want to paint/draw handheld then get the smaller one.
Watching this on my 12.9 inch iPad Pro 2020 and you said it’s 39 g more …wow. Get the Otterbox case to protect it.
@@teohycFair enough. Still, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
I find that jeans wipe of the fingerprints beautifully. My phone screen comes out of the pocket looking shiny new :D
YES
I appreciate your explanation and review as I have never drawn before and want to get into drawing especially seeing you landscaping
well thats all I needed to know, I will be buying this pretty soon hopefully before christmas
I have that Parblo stand. It's excellent. I use it with my iPadPro and with my Gaomom pen display (15.6inch).
This is the best review I've seen for this. Subscribed and Thank you :-)
Beautiful place! Reminds me of the French Quaters in New Orleans, LA, USA.
Drunken Balloon--hahahahaha! Thankyou for this entertaining and very thorough review. You always cover everything I need to know and answer all of my questions before I can ask them. It may be hot and humid in Singapore right now, but it's a fascinating city.
Nice, I was waiting for your video. Great as always!
I also am still using the 2015 iPad Pro! I think this will be the time I finally upgrade.
Did you end up upgrading? I have the same iPad Pro 1st gen, and although apps still work well on it, the battery life is getting worse day by day 🥲😭
I wanna upgrade to one of the M1 iPad pros this year, ideally the 12.9” cos I do illustrations and artwork but the portability is turning me to the 11”
Could you tell me your experience?
Love your videos man its always a mix of everything!!
Procreate just updated for M1 iPad a week ago. Would you test how many layers can be work on 16Gb iPad Pro?
You are one of my very favorite digital artists! So passionate knowledgeable and happy Love your channel 🙏🌟🙏😀
I'd be really interested in seeing a side by side comparison with the s7+, especially in direct sunlight, if that's a video that you'd be interested in making?
I'd like to see this, too.
Hi I can’t believe I just stumbled upon your channel via Amazon comment you did for the art of ponyo 😱 I just commented on your another channel yesterday, how coincidental 😱
always been a canvas guy never used iPad since there is a demand of digital art work I have decided to buy my first digital drawing gadget iPad hope I am not disappointed
Don’t think you’ll be disappointed
@@teohyc thank you for making me feel good on my decision
That bag won't fit the 12.9 and case. That's why I don't have a case for the iPad Pro in this video.
I love the 12.9 size but it's just too much money for a fancy display I don't need :/
can you try Huawei matepad pro2 12.6 with m-pencil 2.please,please,please.
Waiting for your review. It is very detailed and perfect for artist perspective. Thanks 😊
hi do you use any kind of screen protector or would you recommend using one?
Thanks for bringing us.
Watching this on my iPad pro 11” 256gb 2021 . XD
Your work is always a delight to watch
Hi :)) what pens do u use when you sketch??
Procreate brushes? Tinderbox, Hartz
Where is the menu to enable palm rejection? The menu you show on your screen, I can't find and I have the exact same tablet as you. It's not under my General settings.
*** I found that I can, instead, set the Apple Pencil to "Only draw with Apple Pencil". Your fingers will only scroll.
I usually do painting with a pixel density of over 10000 pixels, I don't know if ipad m1 can meet my needs?
I use a pool players glove to keep my screen clean
I really love this! would you please do more on urban sketch on procreate. Thanks so much!
2:37 I'm quite sure you said, "you are seated under the shade" and not shyt 🤣...but nice video
should I get 11 inch ipad pro 2021 128 gb or ipad air 4 256 gb? I want to use it for taking notes, learning to draw, and playing Genshin Impact. I've been wanting the rose gold ipad air 4, but I hear people say there is latency. I'm a student so I get discount and free airpods but it ends on tuesday lol
Hi Teoh! I'd like to ask about the edge shadow on the 12.9 M1, does that affect so much when you drawing? And do the shadow only appear when the background is white only or it tend to appear on white and all light colors? (Like when you zoom in your image with a lot of colors, do the shadow still appear on the edges?)
I've been thinking to order the 12.9 inch M1, but have doubt after I saw the shadow problem. I'll be using the ipad mostly for drawing and designing.
1584$ the 12.9 in my country 🥴
I wish you could charge it while using it so it would last longer. Especially the pen as it seems to run out after two hours or so
The Apple Pencil battery life can last 10 hours.
Can you tell us how much memory the system files take up, out of the 128GB you have purchased?
iPadOS and updates should take up at least 16.5GB storage
Is it still worth it buy m1 ipad for this year?
nice review, thanks!
Great review
hello could we request the new huawei matepad pro 12 inch version with the new m pencil
Awesom mi pro..thank u for sharing bro.
Thank you for the review video. It has helped me a lot. Please could you advise on the screen protector we should buy for Ipad?
Matte surface if you want the textured feel while drawing. Or just a clear screen protector so that it won't affect the image quality like the matte screen protector. Or if you get a flip cover, you may not need a screen protector
@@teohyc Thank you for replying back to me. :)
Bellemond screen helps
Hi and good morning (Italy time)… a bit lazy today! Thanks as always to contribute to this mad technical electronic world (I’m still with mini 4) with words and beautiful sketches!!! But about this video I’m getting crazy for your hat…: where did you buy it? Thanks 🙏
It's an Outdoor Research hat. It can hold its shape well and is waterproof. It's worth the money.
@@teohyc Thanks a lot…. Just found and already bought…!
Welp I guess I’ll drop 17 Hunnit on one of these fully decked out 👀😂
In considering between purchasing an 11 and 12.9 with 256GB iPad Pro: when comparing the completion of the same exact illustration on both sizes, will the size of the iPad Pro make a difference in how many layers you can create? Also, does the size make a difference for upgrades and adding new apps like Photoshop? Thanks for doing this informative video!
The thing I have learnt is that the biggest the camvas the less layers you will be able to use,so internal ram is very important,(in M1 pro it's 8GB),ao if you have a bigger display you are gonna have less layers to work with. But I don't think size influences the upgrades you want to do
07:31 timestamp
How often do you use this under the sun? Very often. In real life video editing the new iPad isn’t actually faster, some cases slower. Definitely not worth the upgrade for that, but the screen is lovely.
Wow is perfect for me , I want one
ive ordered mine, the order is still processing, waiting for it to deduct money from my account. it will arrive next month...
-Bryan
@@bryanubaghs406 If you're not going to bring the iPad outdoors often, the 12.9 would be good
Was waiting for this
I’ve got an iPad 10.2 and am really debating on upgrading to this one, but to use it not just as an iPad for drawing but also as a “computer” for school, what storage size should I get? I’d love the 2T but that’s a lot and it would take me a whirl to save up, but idk if that’s overkill for storage?
2TB is overkill. How much storage really depends on what you do so it’s difficult for me to say. As for a computer replacement, there will be some limitations, same limitations as the iPad 10.2.
I’m not sure if I will recommend the 12.9 M1 model. If you can, go to the refurbished section on Apple website and look for the 2020 model which is more worth the money.
That's an odd-looking sketchbook... the fountain pen's ink quality could use some work too.
I want to know if the M1 iPad Pro makes a difference when using apps like photoshop on sidecar. Opposed to an iPad Air.
Not much difference except you can get 12.9-inch on iPad. The 120Hz ProMotion also won't make any difference because Photoshop only runs at 60Hz.
Thanks
11 Inc version is 10 thousand units in my country and the minimum wage is 2000 units, so a person has to starve for 5 months to get it, so it is very difficult to access technology in my country, do you know which country? ..... ✨Turkey✨. And I don't like my country in general
Super organized,engaging . Thanks.liked!

Hey Teoh, what brush do you use for the sketch?
It's the "Inktober Geyser INK P4 brush" from Georg Brushes www.georgbrush.club
@@teohyc Thank you!
GIVE ME THE LINK OF SCREEN PROTECTOR
So drawing experience on 5th gen Ipad Pro is same like on 4th and 3th? Tbh i care only about it, don't need super speed for any "editing" things.
Exactly the same drawing experience
@@teohyc mini led? Thunderbolt? Better speakers? More ram for more layers? Not exactly same tho
But I think they'll fix all the issues by next year.(by then Ipad pro 2022 would be coming out with the better M2 chip where most Software companies by then will be more familiar to the M series )
@@yokokurama5174 why would you need better speakers for drawing?
I love the brush you used during th sketch segment which one is that?
Tinderbox
Which brush did you use (frequently) in Procreate?
Does the mini led display make your drawings look better referring to colours and stuff like sharper lines not skill lol,, please answer I am probably pre ordering one today
It’s going to look exactly the same as the 2018 and 2020 model. You will only see difference when watching HDR movies. But if it’s your first iPad or upgrade from a very old one, it’s still worth the money
Hi,
I am confused what to buy iPad Pro 11 inch Wifi + Cellular / OR / iPad Pro 12.9 inch Wifi + Cellular.
I think 12.9 is nice to rest hand easier. but 11 is more portable. What you recommend ?
12.9 needs to be set down on a table most of the time when it comes to drawing. So just look at your current workflow or lifestyle and see if it fits.
