    At the beginning of the year (end of January) I invested in an iPad Pro 2021 (12‘9 inch, 512gb) with the Apple Pencil and I bought procreate. That was the first ever apple device I ever got and I never understood the hype about the ipad, Apple Pencil and procreate but now I do! It is the best drawing experience I ever had, the Apple Pencil is just so amazing and I‘m still so in love with this baby. I never want to go back. Its definitely worth it.

    I had a 10th gen iPad ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

      That's a HUGE disincentive to get Apple products, but especially the iPad. Apple FORCES you to use their software for drawing even though you already paid for all the other products from Apple. No thanks. That's not professional or ethical of Apple to do that. If they're claiming this product is tailored to artists, then by default people should be able to use whatever software they want.

    Great review, as always, Brad. At first, I was going to take your advice and stay with my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro. Then I visited my local Apple Store to compare the 2018 with the 2021 model. There is a BIG difference in the displays. The brightness on the 2021 is outstanding. The whites are whiter and the blacks are darker (sounds like a laundry detergent commercial) and I really don't notice much of a drop-off at the edges. It is very faint. Perhaps it's a matter of only some units having that as a problem. Overall, I felt it was worth the cost for an upgrade, especially as Apple is offering me $535 for a trade-in on the 2018 model. Checking on eBay, after eBay & Paypal fees, I wouldn't net much more than that anyway. Certainly worth the $700 for the upgrade.

    • @PSYCHOV3N0M
      @PSYCHOV3N0M 3 года назад +1

      I believe the amount of layers you can use depend on the RAM capacity of the iPad you're using.
      Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch 2021 models have the same storage capacity/RAM capacity as each other.
      The 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models all have 8GB of RAM.
      The 1TB and 2TB models all have 16GB of RAM.
      You should check the App Store for the latest update notes from the developer of the app that you use to see if they specify any specific optimizations for the new 2021 models.
      For any artist or video editor, I say go with any 1TB or 2TB model for the 16GB of RAM alone. It can definitely help to "future-proof" your purchase.
      Keep in mind that the Mini LED LCD panel is only available on the 12.9-inch 2021 iPad Pro.

    I believe that there is no gap actually. It may look like it because of that "shadow" effect. If there was a gap then there would be a hollow sound when pen tip touches the glass. What causes that shadow effect is that new way of backlighting. MiniLEDs are just not close enough to the edges of the screen so there is a slight lack of backlight along the sides creating that feel of inner shadow or thicker glass or a gap between glass and the actual screen. So it causes no parallax, but man, once Brad mentioned this issue i can't unsee it now =|

    the bummer is the dark mode does not works well on this new ipad.
    they are using mini led and they try to work likes oled screen when using dark mode.
    which means they will try to turn off the backlit led when showing white text in black background,
    but it is not enough to do that like oled screen.

    Good review! I’m so hyped to receive mine! I REALLY hope this spec bump means more layers in Procreate! Maybe 140 layers?? Also More animation tools?
    I’m torn on the screen protector. I love the matte screen protector for drawing but at the same time... it does wash out the screen detail a little bit. And while I primarily draw on my iPad, I still love having a nice screen for video creation and consumption...

      I just bought the 2020 12.9 last October. It is really - really great. My only problem is I run out of layers on procreate. But hey that's a me issue because 14 to 20 some layers I'm not merging down in a good work flow. I was absolutely going to bankrupt myself with the 2021 1tb. But after seeing that screen. I am soooo happy to stay with 2020 pro. It's my daily work horse and driver. You will not be disappointed 👍🏽

      how do you feel about the size of the 12,9”? I’m having a hard time deciding on the size, the 11” seems more handy and comfortable/lighter when I decide to draw sitting on the couch, but having more visual space is awesome too.

    • @Bunny-Bones
      @Bunny-Bones 3 года назад

      @@lilih1081 that is a hard but easy question. The 11 inch is so so much lighter and easier to carry around. But once you draw on the 12.9. It's another level. And after awhile it's just as easy to carry around. I carry my 12.9 to every room in a 2 story house and everywhere I go! Honestly having a 11 inch 2018 and a new 12.9 would be ideal if not for Covid. That 11 would give you a back up device and the light weight. And obviously the 12.9 is just better in every way for any kind of drawing!

    Paperlike not so much. Tried it and went back to iCarez. 1/3 the price of Paperlike and lasted 3 times as long. Noticed the Paperlike being soft and sticky held micro dirt which would embed itself in my pencil tip hence wearing out the pencil tip and screen protector. Probably we will be getting 336-672 of layers with 2040x1080p and 300 dpi.
    If we have 6GB of Ram on the last year models and 250 layers with the default canvas size then if we divide 250/6 will get 42 layers for each ram and multiply it by 8 or 16 you'll get 336 or 672 but an increase to the CPU cores will probably have an increase to the amount of layer we could use. But then again Ram matters more than the CPU or GPU when it comes to Procreate unless when the new update comes it'll be using GPU powers.

      @@AdrianLopez-sr3dd It HAS lost the spotlight. Are you blind? The 2021 model is out. That doesn't make the 2020 model a piece of junk or anything. The point is it shouldn't matter whether or not the changes in the 2021 model are huge. No one forced you to buy the 2020 model. It's not anyone else's fault if you lack self control with spending money. 😂😂😂
      If anything, you can always sell your iPad on eBay or Let Go, etc and recoup a good amount of money back which you can put towards the latest model.
      P.s. The fact that you "feel better" about the 2021 model supposedly not being a humongous upgrade is proof that you don't even take full advantage of your current iPad Pro with 6GB of RAM. Therefore, it shouldn't matter if the new model is a humongous difference because you wouldn't be using it to its full potential anyways.

    Mac apps will have to be modified to accommodate the touch and pencil interface instead of the mouse and keyboard inputs.
    If you have an M1 MacOS app, it’s not that much work to transigir to M1. However I order to get the best out of the app, there would need to be some redesign work.
