I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on it. Says ships early July so hopefully mid July I get it. I have the 1st iPad Pro and love it. I still have it but my brother’s dog pulled the cable and knocked it off the table and when I went to repair the screen it’s still messed up and opens/closes apps and act like I didn’t push the screen for something and acts like it’s possessed so my Father’s Day gift was this 12.9” version. I was a trucker so I used the iPad Pro for work because my company used an app for our logbooks and then of course with the cell service version I used it as my gps and entertainment screen. I always used Gmaps and had maybe 2 issues where I went on city roads not graded for the weight of the truck but I drove past it quick and was fine. Other than that, Spotify and gmaps were great then lunch and bedtime using it watching movies and tv shows were great since I used magnets to hold it on the dash of the truck in perfect view for me to see while driving if I needed a quick glance for directions and on the closet sidewall I put magnets and they were plenty strong enough to hold it while still in the otterbox case and just wish the screen wasn’t messed up or else I wouldn’t upgrade. My wife and I box got the airtags and upgraded to the iPhone 12s and so with the “newer” model of the MacBook pros the iPad upgrade was read and a perfect case so when we take our 2yo around we can use that screen to help with learning reading simple small books to beautiful bright movies like despicable me 2 and all those yellow and purple minions.

Of course they don’t want the iPad Pro to be a true Pro device because they still want you to buy a Mac. I completely agree with everything you’ve said here, sell your M1 iPad Pro. The iPad Pro is now nearly $3,000 which is $1,000 more than what I paid for my 27” 5K iMac.
Apple just put the M1 in the iPad Pro for some clever marketing making people buy it in hopes that iPadOS 15 would be a game changer before disappointing everyone then it’s too late to return it. That’s why I didn’t buy an M1 iPad Pro and definitely won’t be buying a new iPad Pro for a good few years. Stick with the 2018.

I've been waffling and researching for weeks. This compelled me to buy a Galaxy S7 or 8 or older iPad 11. I've felt for a few years that we're getting so much power we won't really have the need for it. 80% of normal use is fine with technology from even 5 years ago!

i think you ae correct but you could say the same thing about a car:). In my very humble opinion I think what has happened over time is this “apple tech” space has gotten so crowded that people are not thinking about buying a laptop or ipad, ect and thinking in my everyday work does this help me? In my world the ipad pro helps me with drawing, creating logos, ect. So to me it helps me make money and thats all that matrers. So many people get hung up on geekbench scores, ect that they think these computers are going to think for them. I will say it until the end of time. For not all but most people an ipad pro can be a computer replacement. It can. The issue is the people on ytube that really are the 5-10% it can not and will not. They hace the loudest voice and therefore here we are. His points on here are well taken and make sense do not get me wrong. I own an agency and we now have mba m1 and imac m1 and they kick ass. Super snappy and smooth editing video, designing magazines ect. It really feels sometimes like when I used to do commercial photography. People would get so ensnarled in the latest greatest lens, ect that they kinda forgot what they were actually doing an tbh alot of them were just pervs taking pictures of “models”. All this being said the max tech guy makes good points and again this is aimed at a small percentage of users BUT if that is true why not make it ok for them. Those types will still have a mac. To me the most exciting feature coming out of os 15 is universal control because as much as sidecar is nice when traveling the screen is mini me size and having the ability to draw on ipad and bring it over is great. Hopefully apple finally brings it all together.

The biggest issue with iPads is that ultimately they create a conflict of interest for Apple. They have the potential to supersede MacBooks for students and professionals, but giving them that sort of capability and user experience would hurt Mac sales. So they build a tablet that’s perfectly capable of functioning as easily as a laptop, but they won’t give it to true user inexperience improvements to make that happen. Imagine an iPad with the laptop ambition of a Windows Surface. That would be the perfect machine. As it is, I’m keeping my MacBook.

@@andyH_England the 2018 and 2020 iterations got plenty of criticism. Some of which lead to the improvements both devices now enjoy on the software side.
Did RUclipsrs get WWDC massively wrong? Absolutely. But Apple also knowingly lead them on. Even if they did not promise anything, they knew what they’re doing.
Hence why it’s still worth criticizing their product strategy because ultimately its not about what Apple is promising. It’s about users getting the best experience they can pay for. And history will show often criticism becomes a better product in the future.

No reason to hate your video, it is your opinion. But I do think Apple has realised long before many RUclips-Apple-vloggers that “pro” does not equal “video- photo- or music-producers”. As a self employed legal & ethics consultant I do think I am a pro. At least my bank account does. I ditched the MacBook years ago, as the iPad Pro just is way more efficient, way better at security, way more capable as a supporting device for my professional life. I don’t care if it is called a computer, a MacBook replacement or anything else. As a software engineer, I always advise:"Find the software you want to use, then buy the hardware that runs it." This way, you're never disappointed. You software claims are, somewhat, valid, but keep in mind that Apple never made any promises in that regard. Yes, the "potential" is there, but until it's a reality, you should never use something that was not intended to be used in such a way. I agree that Apple's prices are too far out, and though I own many of their products, I draw the line on certain things that make no sense. Like paying over $2000 for an iPad which I KNOW WILL NOT RUN THE SOFTWARE I WANT and, therefore, will not replace my MacBook Air, for example. With that said, I use an M1 iPad Pro 11" (base model) for "iPad stuff", but I must say that it you're mostly creating documents, editing photos, or maintaining a server or a website, on the go, the iPad Pro is more than capable. My wife has the base M1 iPad 12.9" which she uses exclusively for her work and is a perfect fit for what she does, including the screen real estate that she needs. These machines *can* do it all, but unless you have the proper form factor and software to compliment, they are worthless as anything, but what they are advertise as.

This is just my personal take based on my routine and work:
The iPad Pro is the most expensive media consumption device a person can buy, I can't do anything I usually do on a PC/Mac, despite having the same components as the M1 macs, and iPadOs apps will NEVER be at the level of professional environment software for production aside of photo or simple video editing, and that's just sad because the M1 iPad is an awesome device that could totally stand of its own, but apple decided it's mean to be just as a complementary device.
Even people who fully adopted the iPad pro as their main device must deal with its artificial shortcomings that make them inevitably use or invest in a mac.

With many M1 Mac software now running natively, there's no excuse to not offer those on ipad if someone needs it. For me, technology is about having options, so apple's "my way or no way" of doing things and purposely tripping the ipad's potential really bugs me.

@@RunForPeace-hk1cu Apple got extremely close on the hardware end with the M1 unifying the iPad and Mac chips, as well as the ergonomic masterpiece (compared to the Surface keyboards, at least) that is the Magic Keyboard.
It’s really a shame that the only reason why they can’t actually make it work is the software. And it’s not like Apple can’t do software right. Honestly speaking, if there’s anyone who can actually perfect a touch-cursor UI, it would be Apple. Their gigantic userbase, extreme vertical integration, ludicrous R&D budget, and lack of fear in implementing (or removing) features puts them in the best (and maybe the only) possible spot to experiment and mass-acclimatise people to a paradigm shift in UX and UI. Heck, they even tried doing a half-hearted attempt at this with the cursor support. And even that already went better than any of their competitors’ attempts. That’s proof that Apple is capable of destroying the competition if it simply tried.
But they didn’t push through. They absolutely, in the most literal of senses, have no excuse for why they didn’t make the iPad the ultimate personal computing device like what they used to proclaim it is. iPadOS 15 was the perfect time to prove everyone wrong about the number one complaint for the iPad Pros. The ingredients were all chopped and ready, the oven’s been preheated, and the recipe’s been tried so many times that it’s practically memorised. All they have to do is APPLY what they have already invented. It’s the equivalent of having a dissertation all written up and just needing to press “submit”.
But no. They chose to double down on the iPad’s weaknesses, at a time where it made the most sense (not only in terms of consumer benefit, but also in terms of finally implementing years of now-matured innovation) to improve the iPad to a new standard unrivalled by any portable device.
Apple did not only their consumers, but also their own software and hardware engineering teams an extreme disservice by not improving on the iPad. It is an exceptionally rare occurence in the tech industry to have a device that is legitimately overpowered for what it can maximally do, especially when its basically for over the course of its entire lifespan. Unfortunately, the current iPad Pros are looking to be as such.
The sad reality is that Apple has shown before that they are willing to neglect their products, almost at a whim. As such there is no precedent for a reality where the iPad could get major improvements in software. We could hope, but it’ll never be certain, or even just probable. Heck, there’s still no native calculator app for the iPad after all these years, and recent interviews directly bringing it up.

@@TheRagingSun it is, I’ve already explain on another post why, even with the $50 difference, the 256 air was a good buy for me. I: didn’t want to break 1k, needed accessories which the $50 went to, got more space than the M1, doesn’t hurt, and the usable difference(as in difference the average user will notice) is not much. The 4th gen air has a hella good chip still and for what I do on my laptop(media surfing and art)that’s even overkill.
So the M1 would be stupidly overkill 😂. In other words, for me there was no point in buying the pro when the air does the exact same thing. I don’t Transfer videos so I have no use for the thunder bolt. No one can even use the full power of the M1 because the OS doesnt even allow you to do that much(you’d have to run and transfer so much crap)
There have also been benchmark test that showed when it comes to actual usability the 4th gen air is only slightly below the M1 in terms of power. Not raw power, just using power. That goes back to what I said about you not being able to fully use all of the M1s power. I am not knocking the m1 by any means. It’s a beast! Just a beast you can’t fully tame. Me buying the 4th gen air future proofs me just as much as the M1. iPads last longer than phones so either way I can easily push out 8+ years with this with no issues.

    • @pHixiq
      @pHixiq 3 года назад +1

@@TheRagingSun so on paper, iPads last about 4 and a half years. But it’s not the hardware that kills it, it’s the IOS. We all know that one day our devices won’t be updated any longer.
      (Which sucks)
The reason I say 8 years for this iPad is because it has features that are good enough for it to last 4 extra years past it being updated. There are still some people rocking 5+ year old iPads. So unless they actually change The Os for their products I 100% do not see myself buying another. I’m 20 now and this is my first ever iPad. For that same reason. I can’t see the next 3-4ipads being any more different than the 4th gen air or M1. Unless they change OS.

Love the detail level of this video and accurately describes the frustration that so many of us have with the “artificial limitations” imposed on iPads especially when using external monitors. There are a few specialized software that can take advantage of the full real-estate of external monitors, but these are very sparse. Apple should have included this or at some point update their support capabilities. Also the limitations of dealing with external storage drives are very un-Apple in my opinion. Not being able to format or eject drives, so many limitations. I can understand not having everything instantly when M1 iPads were released, but the updates should be coming / roadmap or something. I too was excited to upgrade to M1 iPad, but ended up returning mine after testing. Just not enough useful advantages over my existing 12.9 iPad Pro 4th gen. the new screen is incredible, but for day to day use, not watching HDR movies in a dark room, even side by side with my prior gen, it just was not as impressive as it should have been. Pros do pro work, and that is more than just watching movies or HDR content. Would have loved if at least some of the 1000 nit brightness could be utilized more readily, especially when using the iPad outdoors in bright sunlight or other harshly bright environments. Seems like 99% tasks are limited to ~600 nits just like my prior gen 12.9. I also like the comments about “we are not asking Apple to put macOS on the iPad” and I somewhat agree with that. I think Apple should at least explore the blended area more. If they would remove some of these limitations and have even only 1 iPad that was more of a MacBook capable replacement (this doesn’t mean full macOS), I think there are a large number of people that would pay an extra 1000 or whatever for that true hybrid type device. Or enough to make up for that small set of users that might not buy both an iPad and a MacBook [Pro] as well.

If they’re still there when iPadOS 15 releases in September, then you’ll have a case. As for a laptop, EVERYBODY seems to call it a laptop. Have you not seen the 20 billion “Can the iPad Pro replace your laptop” videos? I’m sick of seeing them when Apple never promised a laptop. Sorry, but “What is a computer” does not equal “This is a laptop replacement”. It means it’s a serious computing device, not a toy, which at the time, many people considered it to be one. You claim nothing is available to use all that horsepower. There are tens of thousands of apps, including hundreds of games and pro apps that use the power of this system. If your favored app is not there, talk to the developers. That’s not on Apple to write other people’s apps for them. Consider the iPad Pro has been out for a month. Did you expect every possible app to be available before developers had even had a chance to get one? As for external display, many apps do use the full display with no black bars. Keynote is one of them and that’s by Apple. Developers can utilize an external any way they want, but they need a compelling reason to do so. Why is the desktop not extended? Because it’s a touch device where very few have a Magic Keyboard. Exactly how did you expect people to touch their icons on that external monitor? That’s also why most apps don’t use the second monitor because there’s no way to touch anything. When people ask for features, they simply don’t think it through as to whether it’s a good idea or not.

The iPad mini has almost twice the screen area of an iPhone Pro max and is more useful when reading or consuming media, when it become too small i will use my desktop. As for my next Phone, I might get the iPhone 12 mini, perfect size for me. Funny thing is, a years a go I pledged never to buy another apple product(2012 macbook air was the only apple product I had at the time), now I have an M1 Mini, iPad mini and looking to get an iPhone mini. Apps you use may be fine with minimal ram. For those working in 3D, more ram means more polygons in a scene. Having the ability to create more complex scenes on iPad would be great, and it’s what we expected from these iPads, and Apple intentionally made that impossible.

Oh god. I heard this same crap in the camera world about Canon crippling their camera line to raise demand for their cinema line garbage.
Guess what, Apple is a business. Having tiers and markets is what business is all about. It's funny how many people seem to miss this in their every day life. Why is a VW not as good as a Porsche? Same thing dude - different price points and/or different markets.
The iPad is not a macbook and a macbook is not an iPad. They work very differently. There is a reason that most all-in-one Windows laptops are neither great laptops, nor great tablets. They are just a compromise, and additionally, the companies that make them are failing at marketing in a way that Apple does not. Apple is one of the biggest tech companies on earth for a reason.
I heard it all in the camera marketplace for years. People who need cinema cameras do not buy mirrorless cameras. Period. There is a reason why Canon is the biggest camera company in the world too.
Take some years in Marketing and Finance in University and you'll understand how this all works, instead of resorting to conspiracy theories that most people do (lazy minded ones anyway).
