Nah, there is adefinitely a vocal contingent of people who straight up want macOS on iPad. But it is a smaller contingent than the group of people who rightfully grumble about iPadOS being lacking for what the iPad Pro should be capable of.
The chips are ridiculously powerful for years to come. Let’s use the A12 Z or X it was ridiculously powerful at the time and it still runs 90% of the apps on the App Store perfectly aside.
I upgraded from my 2019 for the Apple intelligence support. I was literally thinking this is ridiculous, a video needs to be made on just how little the difference there is. I just found your video, and it’s perfect, exactly what needs to be said, love the production quality.
I've been using my 2018 iPad pro daily for the last 6 years, through kids and grandkids, art, editing, ect, ect and it's never so much as glitched one time. I never think about it, it just works
Absolutely. It’s like he said in the video “Why is this old ass ipad still so good.” I got it in early January 2019 and the battery life is still at 94%
People might disagree, upgraded to 15PM from an 11PM. Apart from the magsafe and 120hz, 11PM is still amazing.. Camera's and all. They were doing something right in 2018-19
Exactly most apple products run great for atleast 5 years But there is now a trend to upgrade their hardwares every year or two Which kinda defeats the purpose of owning such powerful hardware in the first place
Thank you for this video. I too have an iPad Pro 2018 11”. And I love it and have no real reason to upgrade and when I saw the price I was like sheesh no thanks. I was really worried about obsolescence but hey it aint a problem…yet
I had the 2018 ipad pro. I had no issues with the 2018 ipad pro. I loved my 2018 ipad pro. The m2 ipad pro comes out. I decided to "upgrade" to the m2 ipad pro and i sold my 2018 ipad pro thinking it was a MUCH faster pad. WRONG!! I have regretted that decision ever since. I still have my m2, I really like the m2 (now) and I won't get rid of it until it stops working.
It’s good.. still rocking 2018 ipad pro..just the battery life is gone bad due to updates ( apple intentionally reduced it, otherwise no one will buy new devices)
good video, i went from an iPad Air M1 to 11 inch M4 iPad Pro, and i honestly don't regret it, the 120htz refresh rate makes a difference in the world for smoothness, the battery is better, face ID is much better than touch id fingerprint, much better speakers, and the OLED display for me for sharpness and its a million times more visible outside and that really matters for me viewing and working in bright sunlight its 1000 nits of brightness and 1600 outside, awesome display
This is the most honest, non hyped, real person perspective on the internet. When you said, "bruh" I was on the floor dying, you got a like and subscribe.
I upgraded to the 13inch M4 iPad Pro recently from my 2018 11inch iPad Pro not because it was falling short of power or anything but because my aunt’s iPad is dying (she needed a new one) and I needed another reason outside of declining battery life to push myself to finally get a new one 😅
This! When people ask me how often I switch devices my answer is always: “Whenever my parents’ need a new one”. I just switched from my trusty 2018 11” to the M4 as my mom’s 9.7” iPad Pro from like 2015 or 2016 started dying on her (which was my previous iPad too).
Hands down best video on why or why not to spend $$$$ on current iPad Pro. Greatly appreciate your non bias opinion which allowed me to make a final decision on getting an older iPad.
I’m still using my 1st gen iPad Pro from 2016. Used it everyday for everything from pro corporate video to illustration to music production and still feels as fast as when I got it.
Real reason I'm upgrading personally is I'm upgrading from the 2016 one and used/older devices aren't really available where I live, so might as well benefit from the display. I could definitely go air, but I want that display
I’m so glad to see this. My 2018 iPad Pro is still going strong and I have no reason to replace it at all! I think they’ll have to stop giving it software updates before I move on

Gave my old 2018 12.9 mainly because it was too big to travel with and I ended up not using it. It was inconvenient to use while flying or in the airport mainly due to size. M4 with the 10” size is was the best decision I made for travel. The usb speed upgrade was totally worth it. And the new pencil pro is an excellent improvement.
I went through the same delimma, I run almost my entire business from my iPad. The new Pro feels so much faster and smoother but the biggest draw for me was the "more space" option. It allows me to have more apps open at a time and I can access my database dashboard much better way less crammed together. Oh and the new one supports external monitors which the 2018 didn't. Ive also been beta testing the AI features which have been pretty useful here and there.
I bought the 2018 11" iPad Pro the day it came out, and other than a $119 "battery replacement" a few months ago, have had zero issues with it, and it still runs perfectly. I put "battery replacement" in quotes because Apple doesn't actually replace the battery, they just give you a NOS entire replacement. New screen, new chassis, new battery, everything. MINT CONDITION REPLACEMENT for $119!! If this iPad lasts me another 5 years, I will use it for another 5 years. I see zero need to ever replace it unless it completely dies.
Literally my same struggle for the past five weeks! I have a 2018 Pro 11 inch and it is golden. Absolutely everything is perfect about it except for the fact that wasn’t big enough for me to use as my alternate TV/working in Procreate. So I decided to upgrade , excited with the new features and expecting a lot because let’s face it. This thing is close to the cost of an old junker used car. But the 2024 was shockingly, almost identical in benchmarks!! Data transfer speeds were almost identical, brightness was almost identical, the audio isn’t as good as the old pad because there’s one less speaker. But I can set it down for a full charge and it doesn’t get warm - that means longevity. The only reason I ended up keeping it (I’ve kept both because I just can’t give up my 11 inch baby-plus I still have six months of AppleCare because I bought it refurbished. Golden. Unit. ) and I’m telling you I have literally spent weeks running every test and comparison there is - is that I am challenged with an RSI that flares up and sometimes I can’t hold things for too long. I also also use this pad as a Kindle reader so I need to be able to hold it for at least an hour. Or have it on my lap and not feel when it gets too heavy. I did also try the air - but it got super hot on charging and also the refresh rate kind of sucked for reading. So in the end of the weight was the big flipper for me. You would’ve thought maybe the screen or the camera finally being in the right place calls which I do a lot of, but nope the weight and longevity are my reasons. Some other info that might be helpful As an artist, I haven’t really noticed any difference with the new pencil. You have to change the settings and only certain brushes allow you to do that. The haptic feedback is no big deal. I guess the pop-up menu is OK, but it isn’t worth 2K My biggest beef is that the iOS, for some reason does not have an extraordinarily basic function that every single android and cheap windows computer has - there is no way to control your contrast or colour controls system wide. And there’s no equalizer unless you’re using iTunes. Because the screen has saturated color, that also means that it is very contrasted. And so the black wild velvety black means that good luck catching anything in the shadows if you’re watching something like Game of Thrones. You just won’t be able to see any details there. (Meanwhile, my iPad 11 from 2018 is just cruising on that level! ) you can push the screen brightness to maximum, but then the whites are gonna be super white as well. It’s not a great solution. What I’ve been doing is plugging into an external monitor and then I can fenagle all I want and guess what - it’s bloody easy Like 1000 people have already said it’s an excellent machine, but the software has not caught up to it. And that’s something you need to know before you plunk down the money.
Subscribed to you when you had less than 1000 subscribers, and happy to say it was totally worth it. Love the effort you are putting into your videos. From script to final editing, everything is top notch! Keep it up, bro!

My 2017 ipad pro 9.7 got repackaged as the basic entry ipad lol with mine still having support and better specs…unless your ipad is dead or cant do what you want it to do, no reason to "upgrade". As a student i had been dying for an ipad mini, i waited till the 6th gen and i bought it this yr. My old ipad is now my little sisters and still works great. I mainly read and watch youtube so i dont need a huge device anymore
The algorithm is so scary, I was just thinking about this comparison because I've been thinking about upgrading my 2018 ipad pro and your video showed up lol.
Great video, and I actually just did this same upgrade (2018 11” iPP to M4 11” iPP). I didn’t “need” it, but it’s an affordable splurge after 6 years of use, and I’m also able to give my old one to my kid (replaces their 10.5 iPP A10X which was also mine before the 2018 iPP)
iPad Pro 2018 have A12X, it’s like the M1 before the M1, it’s still good. And the RAM bandwidth is actually the same between A12X and M1, which is appreciated. The only real limitation of this iPad is the 4GB of RAM, and I only had one situation where I was limited by the RAM, while I was doing a very heavy GarageBand production. Even for games, 4GB isn’t an issue at all. I love my Pro 2018.
Great video! I love the editing and the entertaining vibe you bring. The comparison mostly makes sense, but where it falls apart for me is trying to find a 2018 iPad with decent battery health-it’s nearly impossible! 😂 I feel like Apple’s strategy here is to attract newer audiences like me who don’t already own an iPad. It works for someone like me, but if I already had a 2018 iPad, I wouldn’t be spending the money to upgrade unless it was on its last legs and Apple offered a solid trade-in deal. Anyway, long story short, fantastic video as always! 😊👏
Watching this as I replace the battery and screen on my iPad 😂😂 I was searching for a battery replacement tutorial but stumbled across this video. I already had made the decision that the new iPad was nice but I never find myself wishing more from my 2018 model. Almost done with this replacement wish me luck 😅
I’m still using 12.9 first gen iPad Pro for music production, video editing, and drawing.. it still has plenty of life in it..but I’m saving for the m4 so it’s future proof and last me 8-10 years lol I really enjoyed your video big ups.
I’m on first gen as well, waiting till it dies… by that time I’ll be able to get an m4 on discount or second hand for much less. No need to spend anything while it’s still holding up this well.
I’m taking my words back from the last video with your wife and S24U/flip 5 !!! Love your humour man! Amazed how you’re still under 100k subs! Subscribed now! ❤ Wish you all the best for you and the whole family ❤
I’m watching this on an iPad Peo 2018. The battery is okay, not as good as when it was new, but I never did anything to preserve the battery. But I don’t use it for crazy stuff so I can’t complain.
I don’t need the latest for sure, but I got the 13” and 11” because I to carry both back and forth and for me many commutes and anything lighter and thinner is a must for me.
I upgraded from 2018 iPad Pro to M4 iPad Pro and it was definitely worth it. Didn’t spec out the M4 to be not worth it like this video did though. Got the base model for 900 USD with $100 gift card. The OLED screen, better performance, and longer battery life is more than worth the money.
Having the same dilemma right now. My 2018 Ipad Pro fell 2.5 feet onto carpet and the screen smashed. A used one with the same spec is £250 or less but because Apple like money, they want £479 to replace the screen. So I'm deciding whether to replace it with the same model, which has no performance problems for me, or spend more to upgrade to a newer model.

Absolutely. It’s like he said in the video “Why is this old ass ipad still so good.” I got it in early January 2019 and the battery life is still at 94%
One of the best most realistic, logical and practical reviews on RUclips.

People might disagree, upgraded to 15PM from an 11PM. Apart from the magsafe and 120hz, 11PM is still amazing.. Camera's and all. They were doing something right in 2018-19
Exactly most apple products run great for atleast 5 years
But there is now a trend to upgrade their hardwares every year or two
Which kinda defeats the purpose of owning such powerful hardware in the first place
That Guy should be famous on tech channels he's so good

What was wrong? Why did you regret it?
@@whatispizza His wallet hurt and the experience of the M2 is the same as the 2018 iPad Pro.
I am wtching this from my 2011 samsung galaxy note gt N8010 ( Note 10.1 ) with android 7 via costum rom and it is still perfect for social media
It’s good.. still rocking 2018 ipad pro..just the battery life is gone bad due to updates ( apple intentionally reduced it, otherwise no one will buy new devices)
Thought they care for environment
Its a 6 year old battery. Apple never throttled the ipad batteries read more than headlines
How long does your battery last?
good video, i went from an iPad Air M1 to 11 inch M4 iPad Pro, and i honestly don't regret it, the 120htz refresh rate makes a difference in the world for smoothness, the battery is better, face ID is much better than touch id fingerprint, much better speakers, and the OLED display for me for sharpness and its a million times more visible outside and that really matters for me viewing and working in bright sunlight its 1000 nits of brightness and 1600 outside, awesome display
Man !!!!! Loved your video!!! Your attitude is so refreshing! Tech videos nowadays are so dead boring! Congrats
Greatly appreciate your non bias opinion which allowed me to make a final decision on getting an older iPad.
nah i can't skip it. I need the m4 for my candy crush.
As a 2018 iPad Pro user in 2024 I’m so glad to feel seen ❤️
I’m still using my 1st gen iPad Pro from 2016. Used it everyday for everything from pro corporate video to illustration to music production and still feels as fast as when I got it.
I don't have a single apple device I just like this guys videos dude is awesome
0:07 u right im using this masterpiece

I just bought a 2018 iPad Pro 11“ and i am more than happy
Yes, the new iPad is 0,005 second faster than the 6 year-old base iPad. It's a life-changing improvement. We MUST upgrade!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Real reason I'm upgrading personally is I'm upgrading from the 2016 one and used/older devices aren't really available where I live, so might as well benefit from the display.
I could definitely go air, but I want that display

Dude, what the heck? What about future proofing the old iPad?
Will it still get updates in a year or two?
Good point. iPad 2018 won't get this September's iPad os 18.
So I recommend upgrading to M1 iPad pro.
Thank you.

Apple: Alright guys, we need to start rolling updates for our older ipads to slow them down and make ppl buy newer ones!
Or maybe your devices are slowing down because physical components inside of an iPad are not immortal
hardware degration is real. and each os update is more hardware hungry
nope...my M1 iPad Pro is still fast AF boi....hahaha
Hardware degradation only occur because the software forces it to, panned obsolescence
Apple did it for the iphone 6, were caught and hasnt done it again, even the iphone 5 still gets security update

He's gonna return it after 30 days lol. Free video plus a free ipad to use. Win win situation.
Same, I used iPad Pro 1st gen for 6 years and bought 5th gen now. I don’t see any difference but gaming is much better. Sound quality has also improved.
One thing to say. Dont say negative things about your kids. The internet wont forget.
What happens when your kid is evolving an illness because you told her she is fat or she will be indeed a little bit overweight and ahe gets bullied in school. "Even your dad called you fat"

I’m watching this video from an iPad Pro 2018!
Lesssgoooooo!
You sold me on keeping my old 2018 iPad Pro AND the iPad Mini 6 I got to replace it. I will definitely make use of 2 iPads!
Some other info that might be helpful
As an artist, I haven’t really noticed any difference with the new pencil. You have to change the settings and only certain brushes allow you to do that. The haptic feedback is no big deal. I guess the pop-up menu is OK, but it isn’t worth 2K
My biggest beef is that the iOS, for some reason does not have an extraordinarily basic function that every single android and cheap windows computer has - there is no way to control your contrast or colour controls system wide.
What I’ve been doing is plugging into an external monitor and then I can fenagle all I want and guess what - it’s bloody easy
Like 1000 people have already said it’s an excellent machine, but the software has not caught up to it. And that’s something you need to know before you plunk down the money.
Subscribed to you when you had less than 1000 subscribers, and happy to say it was totally worth it. Love the effort you are putting into your videos. From script to final editing, everything is top notch! Keep it up, bro!
I never had an ipad pro before and a base ipad gen6 was my last ipad encounter. I believe its great i love my new ipad pro and use it for work. It still cant beat the comfort of have a laptop with three large displays but still productive with the ipad. I don’t mind the cost im slowly paying it off in payments
6:15 "it was faster but... I could live" 🤣
This guy is brilliant. He's managed to make an honest review while also generating an exhibit for his case in tax court if he's ever audited and they see a $2200 iPad listed as a business expense. It's got everything: the chill reviewer vibe, good editing, demonstrations of work use cases for the iPad, contemplating giving it to cute baby but ultimately choosing it for work, and his wife being an employee. 4D chess.
I’m sure apple will respond to his concerns at some point by slowing down his 2018 iPad in future update.
They future proofed the hell out of it. Mine still is amazing and the battery health is still like 94%. Got it in January 2019.
i have ipad pro 2018, using it daily for 5 years, with no complain, it still fast, and can used for my daily needs. the only one i need to upgrade is battery is not good at all, i have to charged my ipad once a day with light usage and twice a day for heavy task. damn, buying ipad pro is so worth every penny
You were all of us a few days ago. Just before we bought the M4! 😀
Had also the iPad Pro 2018 and replaced it with an iPad Pro 2022 M2 and I can feel the speed update. Happy so far especially I only paid 300$ on top for my sell and buy
I’ve never been as interested in sponsored content as I am in your videos. You’ve made product promotion genuinely fascinatinggg 👏
I am still using mine. Working 100% perfectly fine.. 2018 iPad Pro is such the best iPad Pro they released.
As a fellow Aussie, I LOVE your videos ❤😊. My refurbished 2018 iPad Pro from JB is still alive and well and I don’t plan on upgrading it anytime soon. However, I DO want the iPad mini!!
I just upgraded from an iPad 6th gen to an M2 iPad Pro huge jump probably gonna stay here for another 7 years
My 2017 ipad pro 9.7 got repackaged as the basic entry ipad lol with mine still having support and better specs…unless your ipad is dead or cant do what you want it to do, no reason to "upgrade".
Also, on official battery upgrade through Apple, the reason they won’t do it unless battery health is
Yep bang on. Their battery test looks at highest estimated capacity whilst coconut uses average capacity.
iPad Pro 2018 have A12X, it’s like the M1 before the M1, it’s still good.
Watching this as I replace the battery and screen on my iPad 😂😂
I was searching for a battery replacement tutorial but stumbled across this video.

I use the M1 Mac mini and iPad Pro 2018. No complains at all. Still works great, money well spent. I hope they retire them not softwarewise.
7:01 This is funniest, realest problem to have.
Can’t be happy that its too good at staying competitive with the newer models
I’ve reached 82% battery health in less than 2 yrs, props to you for going thrice as long!
I’m still using my 2015 model. I desperately want to upgrade, but I cannot come up with a single justification. It’s absolutely awesome.
What an awesome video. You’ve quickly become one of my top 5 favorite tech RUclipsrs
