I have been a loyal Apple user for over a decade, having recently sold my iPhone 15 Pro. I've recently purchased the Samsung S24 Ultra and am quite pleased with its performance. This phone is more versatile than the iPhone, offering more functionality.
I see so many “i have been loyal fan” comments that i am starting to think that these are bots commenting. Could you make your comment more specific please? What functionality did you like so you ditched “decade long loyalty” ?
I went from the pixel 8 pro to the s24 ultra. I was always about vanilla android, but not anymore. Pixels hardware is way too lackluster. Google keeps trying to cheap out on the storage speeds, modem, biometrics, and battery life.
My best Samsung vs Pixel comparison is "how many taps does it take to call someone from the 'recents' list?" That comparison seems to play out through the rest of the software as well.
Not a single reviewer talks about how bad the modem is in the Pixel 8 Pro, I returned it as it was a deal breaker for me. But I was glad to hear him mention this and show it in real life. I've been at home with family all of us on Verizon and I could barely send a text, while they have great signals. I got tired of it 10 into the 14 day return window and took it back. It was weak everywhere I went.
I had this discussion with someone years ago about Google and Samsung teaming up to make the an S Tier smartphone. Imagine if Google bought Samsung mobile department. Samsung is responsible for all the hardware and Google is responsible for making sure the software is perfectly optimize to maximize the hardware to it's fullest capabilities. This would be a dream come true for Android users.
My coworker has an S24U (upgraded from an S21U) and I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and a Pixel 6 Pro. Side by side the S24U display absolutely trounces both devices and it felt just as smooth as my 14 Pro Max out of the box (something my P6P can't match.) Still think i would take the P8P over an S24U but simply because I prefer stock Android. However I cant deny that zoom and display are mind blowing irl.
I was also using a pixel 6 Pro. Recently switched to samsung 24 ultra. They have so many features but sometimes fail to implement the only basic feature that pixel has. Example multiple do not disturb modes.
How do you like the 24 ultra since you switched? I currently have the pixel 6 pro and I've been thinking about buying the 24 ultra over the pixel 8 pro.
Wdym multiple do not disturb Modes? Arr you talking about with different effects? You can make as many do not disturb Modes as you want with Modes & Routines.
I didn't realize there was still so much pro pixel bias in the community. If you ignore the opinions and just listen to the observations it is obvious that the Pixel has serious problems for a premium flagship. The last big Android feature drop came to Samsung FIRST and most of the Pixel advantages come to any phone via Google One. Pixel has NEVER been very customizable and now that OneUI is really great it is hard to find usability advantages on the Pixel. The Pixel's AI features are objectively SLOWER than on Galaxy and the modem, battery life, and overall processing power have always been generations behind with tensor and it hasn't gotten much better. Samsung makes hardware look as easy as Google makes it look hard. Having been a "pure android" fan and owner of many nexus and pixel phones, from the S10 forward every time I've switched to pixel it has been a clear downgrade and it will be a while before I go back.
It'll be interesting to see how Google may leapfrog Samsung S24 when the Pixel 9 Pro will be announced in October this year. Amazing comparison. Thank you for your hard work!
I say this has somebody who owns a pixel eight and really likes it …I don’t think there’s gonna be much until the pixel 10 comes as anybody who owns a pixel knows the modem and the processor are definitely not the best.
An interesting and relatively rare comparison. As a non-flagship user of Pixel phones (3a and now 6a) and as a fairly serious photographer (Olympus OM5 Mk 2, ACDSee, studio lighting, etc.), I feel compelled to put in my 2 cents worth. I like the Pixel 'Eco system' including the Pixel Watch 2. I looked at Samsung, since I had just retired a Galaxy S3 Frontier. Fitbit software is very much ahead of Samsung Health. It can scan barcodes, to track what I eat, and automates nutrient conversions (say, from grams to ounces). As a diabetic, the greater accuracy Fitbit offers is particularly important to me. S-Health is fine for casual tracking, and I used it for 7 plus years successfully. I literally just came from the gym. Both for the watch and phones, heart rate, calorie burn, and step counting matches the LifeFitness gear the gym uses within2-5 points, and that's close enough for me. True, Samsung offers Dex, which I think is cool. But I wouldn't use it with a phone, maybe with a tablet, but the phone? Not likely for me. I'm less impressed with Google's tablet offerings at the moment, but I do live in hope. Like you, I hate the duplicative, ugly, and lesser quality of the Samsung Apps. Now, to the Camera(s). A fairly serious photographer cares less about vibrancy 'punch' than he or she cares about dynamic range. Vibrancy can be added by editing, but you can't add the details found in the shadows and highlights that the camera doesn't catch. You can fake it a bit through editing, but you can't replace it. That is why sometimes a Pixel produced photo will seem a little 'dull' to some. It has captured more dynamic range so the photographer can control the edited output a bit better. Both can produce fine photos for the casual photographer; and I use my 6a as a camera of convenience. However, I really appreciate the output of my 6a for its ability to go farther in terms of producing quality output via editing. On the whole, I don't think you can go wrong with either system. But a little self knowledge of what you want and need from your communications gear will go a long way towards keeping you happy with your purchase.
I moved from the 7pro to the 23 ultra... They were close too .. But the 24 ultra is a huge step up and I am thrilled with it. Even the Samsung keyboard is better with the 24. The ai stuff enhances it. I wish gboard had similar writing style and grammar adjustments.
The only complaint that have about this review as well as many others is the fact that they characterize bloatware as some permanent fault that should be considered when purchasing a mobile phone. You can literally delete most of the consumer facing applications from most phones very easily, so I believe that having bloatware really shouldn't be a factor. " Oh no I don't want Microsoft Apps on my phone, what should I do?" Well uh, press and hold the application, then choose uninstall, duh. It takes literally seconds. The only caveat would be the primary apps like camera, photos, contacts, phone, and messaging. Those apps shouldn't even be considered bloatware because they are homogeneous to the platform owner.
To the hobbyist, and or enthusiast, you are likely correct. But, to the casual user who just wants a phone that works, this is simply not true. The warnings the manufacturers splash across the screen are scary to a person who expects "The Phone Company" to take care of this stuff.
@glenbarrington2634 Let's be honest here. A majority of people who watch tech reviews are the hobbyist and enthusiast. Normies aren't watching RUclips to help them shop. They just pick up the newest model they can afford based on personal preference or FOMO.
@@bensu0145 I think you underestimate the power of RUclips. This is where MANY people go for consumer advice. It isn't logical to assume only enthusiasts drive the large number of views this sort of channel receives. I believe I am one such user when it comes to phones and wearables. and I don't think I am all that unique. I bet you also use YT for insight on topics that you don't consider yourself an enthusiast about.
Ive always been a power user, but the pixel 7 pro and now pixel 8 pro user, i csm truly say im sticking sith the Google Pixel. Photos are unmatched. 🔥🙏🏼👍🏼
Have you tried a Galaxy lately? What is the killer feature on Pixel for you right now? I was a hardcore pixel fan but now Samsung is far more customizable, runs much smoother, and generally feels like there are no compromises. Pixels, especially since they switched to this garbage tensor processor, feel like a budget phone dressed up with software gimmicks that try and make you for get the laggy interface and missing features.
@@intrepidpursuit And despite the “bad” Tensor SOC, the Pixel is guaranteed to run better than the S24 in the long run. In the beginning, most phones run well to very well. But Samsung always manages to bring even the strongest SOC to its knees with shoddy software.
Samsung keyboard works well for me after using it for a month or so, it has definitely learned a lot of what I type usually but Gboard has better predictive text just there's not as big of a difference
How come it doesn't have auto space like gboard? It's so hard for me to type on my s23 vs my P8P. It's one of the main reasons my s23 is sitting in a drawer somewhere
I will pick S24 Ultra. CPU performance, S-Pen, battery life, overall user experience is better than Pixel 8 Pro except price. Google should reconsider CPU replacement. Tensor G is far behind.
One of the main reasons I prefer the Pixel 8 Pro is its simplicity. The Pixel 8 Pro runs a clean version of Android, free from bloatware and unnecessary customization options. This makes the phone feel fast, fluid, and easy to use. The S24 Ultra, on the other hand, has a lot of Samsung's own software on top of Android, which can sometimes feel cluttered and overwhelming. Both phones have great cameras, but I think the Pixel 8 Pro takes more natural-looking photos with better color accuracy. The S24 Ultra's photos can sometimes be oversaturated and overprocessed. The Pixel 8 Pro also has excellent low-light photography, thanks to Google's computational photography magic. Plus the P8P is always $200 dollars off. That's an easy decision for me.
Your point is a moo point as the "unnecessary options" are an added benefit for people who like them. People who don't want them can still use the phone in a simple manner - no one's putting a gun on their head to customise their phones.
@AziaVenomI agree the fingerprint sensor is worse on the pixel but face unlock is far better on the pixel since they use the depth detection from the pdaf camera on the front leads to a faster and more secure face unlock than any android phone at the moment.
My problem with my Pixel 8 Pro is the lackluster performance and optimization in many apps. For example scrolling in WhatsApp chats on Pixel is just horrible. The scrolling is very choppy. Even some first party google apps have these stuttering issues. Comparing this with S23 Ultra or my dads OnePlus 9 Pro, these devices have buttery smooth scrolling.
One major question: which one overheats more? I've had a Pixel and it gets hot very easily but I've heard Samsung's Exynos chip does the same. I'd go to Samsung tomorrow if it solved the overheating problem that seems to plague the Pixel line. However, I'm finding, at least so far, that Motorola phones don't overheat nearly as often as either the Pixel or Samsung devices.🤔🤔
The Samsung s24 ultra has a Snapdragon 8gen 3 chipset in every country. In EU and UK the s24 and s24plus have an exynos 2400 which, in testing does not overheat but can have slightly lower battery life.
@@calvinimray423 I drive Uber and with the summer months coming up in the US, the phone will obviously be on for the app for a good chunk of the day. Last summer, even with the AC on and blowing DIRECTLY at my Pixel, It would still overheat if it was being used for navigation for the app. I'd have to stop, exit the app, turn up and hold the phone in front of the AC blowers for up to 10 minutes before it would cool off to go back to normal use. I sufferred through that 2 or 3 times a day whenever I used the app last summer. I don't want to do that again. I switched to Motorola who use a different chipset and I have not heard of similar overheating issues.
My S24U rarely even gets luke warm, but I'm mostly using it on wifi. Even using the camera, it barely gets warm, unlike my old s21 ultra. The enlarged vapor chamber in the S24U does a fantastic job keeping the phone cool, in my experience.
@@alexcraig8543 As an Uber driver, I'm on 5G all day. No wifi until I get back home. I need it working in the field, not just at home. Every phone does fine on WiFi, the real test is how does it do without?
@@ajwalker4416 My Pixel 6 Pro would overheat constantly even while doing very little. It would literally stop responding and sometimes even restart. Especially if it was in the sun even inside a cool car so charging in the car with it on was often just not possible. Based on this and other videos it seems like the Pixel 8 Pro has not improved much. My Samsung has never gotten more than a little warm and definitely has never overheated.
Both of these phones represent two of my favorite smartphone company's of all time. First and foremost, I am a Samsung fan at my core and will always prefer a Samsung Galaxy S Series smart phone over any and every other smartphone on the market. Samsung will always be my go to and my absolute favorite smartphone company. However Google is next in line for me with their Pixel and Pixel Pro lineup being so incredibly good and I'd much rather go with a Google Pixel over an iPhone any day of the week. Both Samsung and Google are my favorite Android smartphones and the very best of the best when you compare them to any other smartphone company on the market.
Ive not ever met one oerson who doesn't use a case and lays theor phone flat on a table to use it and worries about a small wobble. My pixel 6 pro somehow got bent/twisted a bit so it now has the "wobble" but again, I don't use my phone like a PC keyboard so it's not an issue ever. Most cases make the entire back completely flat anyways.
I love love love Pixel, but the removal of customization since A11 has really made me consider leaving. I miss icon shapes, vibrant colors, notification shapes, icon packs... etc. I also wish there were more options for lock screen/always on. I just went back to the original A12 clock because the ones added in 14 are not that good. Going to get the P9Pro most likely, and if customization options aren't added and colors stay the ugly pastels I might consider switching back to Samsung, or maybe someone like OnePlus or Nothing. Sad Google has iPhonified their software so much.
The main reason why I have continued with my pixel 8 Pro over the Samsung ultra is because of the Google voice to text and the Google Assistant just works better on the pixel device. I am someone who uses these tools multiple times a day and I can't live without them.
I really loved the Pixel 8 Pro, but the Battery and the Heating was just not good. I got the S24 Ultra now and i just love this device, i like Stock Android more than One UI, but the rest is just so much better then the Pixel 8 Pro.
I'm agnostic with my mobile OSs (I currently have a 14PM and a 24U) I been going back and forth for years. (Had a pixel 2) I love the 24U. Just switched back from apple. (The imposed restrictions make it a pain to use.) I am holding out hope that the Pixel 10 with the Google custom chip will be a perfect combo of the s24 and pixel. Probably not lol but I can dream 😅
I mostly love my Pixel 8 Pro as I did the 7 Pro. The 8 Pro is a decent upgrade from last years phone and a more worthy competitor to the S24U than the 7 Pro was to the S23U. Now if the Pixel 9 Pro leaks pan out, I think that camera bar design change and flat sides especially if it's all matted and not shiny like on the 8 Pro, it will go a long way in my book to make it look more sophisticated looking on the exterior anyway. I just hope the Tensor G4 is a noticeable upgrade over the G3. I don't have any major complaints but software wise, One UI looks more polished in this video just navigating through the OS than Android on a Pixel. Don't get me wrong, the 8 Pro is very smooth but performing tasks in One UI just looks more surefooted for lack of a better term, in that sense more iOS like which is how I hope Google would optimize Android for Pixels.
Yeah right, I have using Google keyboard for a while and it was ok but when I got myself a Samsung phone the keyboard was just the best after it learn my style of texting ❤🎉🎉💯
Samsung policy to rooting stops me from buying any device of them, in fact i now have a Pixel 6 pro which has face unlock thanks to the abilty to install custom roms. Hardware i do think samsung is better, but to be honest i think comparing the Pixel pro with an Galaxy S24 Plus is fairer as they are much closer in price.
Nice review, but pointing out a couple of things that aren't factually correct - 1. The s23 ultra did not have stainless stell, the frame is aluminium, that's why the switch to Titanium doesn't reduce the weight of the 24, aluminum was already quite light. 2. The back of the phone is gorilla glass victus 2, and not gorilla armour, like the display on the front.
The S20 Ultra was stainless and they switched back to aluminum on the S21. I had the S20 and it was fantastic and the most durable phone I've ever had. I carried it without a case and dropped it plenty of times onto concrete and it looked brand new. I've since switched to using a grip and if I had put one on the S20 so I wouldn't drop it on my face in bed I would probably still have it.
My Pixel 7's battery drain and heating is dramatically less when not using 5g. They need to use better 5g modems. even my previous 3 year old budget samsung did not have this issue on 5g so on a flagship this is unacceptable
I have pixel 8pro and s24u and I hate the lag I get when taking photo. I can point n shoot on s24u. With my trade in on pixel 7 pro to Google I got $450 and Samsung gave me $750 for my s23u and I only paid 475$ for s24u. I prefer the s24u but do miss the pixel dialer and keyboard.
@@estiennetaylor1260 but you don't get the same one as on pixel with the Ai option. Just like yeah I can dl the Google phone app but it wont have the pixel features.
Yeah, they’re both really good phones and I say this as a pixel eight owner you just got a wonder about the processor on the pixel in a year or two what will performance be like as it kind of already does shutter and lag at certain times. Without a doubt the ultra is the better phone that’s not the point but is it worth the extra money is really the question. I bought the regular eight this time around, but I won’t do that again because it seems like Google is holding back some of the AI features only for the pro model. Really good job on the comparison and I personally would never buy the ultra cause I wouldn’t use the S pen but it’s definitely a nice phone.
After all this Google stuff coming out with DEI and the like, its tough to consider any Google products now including Android. Sad to say because I love the Pixel as a product when it works.
I swapped my 8 pro to an s24 ultra as the launch deals were pretty generous. Overall I am happy with the swap as its a better all round phone, especially for media consumption. The screen and speakers are awesome for watching content. Battery life is also better. I use the 80% battery saver mode on my ultra and get roughy same bettery life as my pixel charged to 100%. My biggest reason for changing was performance. The pixel lags and stutters through so many 3rd party apps. Unfortunately the pixel camera is just leagues better. They are pretty even in good lighting but the samsung is genuinely terrible in low light. Its like a midranger. Really noisy with unnatural colour profile and poor detail. Wish they had upgraded the sensor though i suspect its probably just rubbish tuning from samsung.
I am so happy that you are discussing and comparing the issue of mobile connectivity and the effect on battery life of the Pixel (and vs. Samsung ) Thank you for being honest with consumers so they know beforehand and can decide based on their own usage situations. Why does nobody else properly cover these issues on phones. It doesn't matter how great a phone is if you cannot get and keep a decent signal and your battery life is not adequate on cellular data. I love Pixel phones!!! However my problem is I am not on wifi all the time and in a smaller town in the US that doesn't always have the best signal and it's killing the Pixel experience 😢. I think I am going to have to use another phone as my daily driver until Google starts producing better custom chips with TSMC (and better modem hopefully) and try another Pixel in 2025 or 2026. HOW DOES SAMSUNG S24 ULTRA COMPARE IN THIS REGARD TO THE ONEPLUS 12? I AM ON AT&T CELLULAR SERVICE. PLEASE ADVISE AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO COMPARISON ❤.
I tried the s24 and HATED it. Speaker quality is important to me and the sound was terrible, made music sound tinny and irritating--more like noise than music. I didn't see speaker audio addressed here. How is the speaker on the pixel 8?
Audio quality is just average to meh on small flagship smartphones. It's just physics. Smaller than ever earpiece speakers and a thin and lightweight build aren't conducive to balanced sound creation. It's actually much better than the s22 (and probably s23-didnt own that one). Worse than older phones like the s10 which has much bigger earpiece speakers. There's always a trade off. Playing with the EQ and downloading third party app 'wavelet' helped. The 8 pro has good speakers (less balanced/detailed than some like the iPhone 15 pro max/s23 ultra but surprisingly excellent base). The pixel 8 didn't compare favorably to the s24 base so I don't think it's going to be what you're looking for.
@@SmilingIslandRetreat-pn4dd Thank you so much for your detailed reply. Do you know anything about the Motorola G play, and stylus? I had a Motorola g Play 2020 and g Power 2021 and I'm not kidding, music sounded as good as out of my Bose speakers! But Motorola seems hard to get now, and I'm suspicious that the phones are so cheaply priced, makes me wonder how they could be good quality.
1:50 That anti-reflective screen should have taken up at least 10 minutes of screentim during the reveal. Apple would have spent 10 minutes talking about it.
I have to disagree with the battery, the S24 Ultra in my experience on Data will last about 5-6hrs SOT how come yours last 8hrs? Even with Wi-Fi, it only lasts 7 hours, not 8 hours. Again, in my weeks of experience, that's why I don't believe these people saying 10 hours of SOT on Wifi. It's impossible
I can literally send you screenshots. I have charged my battery and left it off the charger overnight and woken up with 96-97%, then comfortably breezed through the day with 9-10 hrs screen on time.
I don't want to be a butt, but stock Android is not Pixel. Pixel is pixel. That's why when you get a Pixel device it has extra features that say a Nokia with Google One "Stock Android" wouldn't have. Stock. Android is what they slap on an Android device that is not a Pixel. Let's be clear: it is confusing but stock Android is not Pixel. Pixel has its own software on top of stock-Android.
I've been a Pixel user since the P6P and I love the experience, can I ask how you got to the icons customisation settings for the battery @ 8.59? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.
It's very strange to hear you and other people purposely choose the pixel 8 pro knowing it's the lesser of the two... And there are arguably several Android phones that perform better than the pixel 8 pro.. I guess some people just prefer lesser quality?
Pixel 8 pro has been found around $800 (normally $1000) since release. The S24U is $1300. Depends on what you define as lesser. The pixel has stock android and a great camera at that price point. If we were talking PC specs I'd agree but the fact is that the G3 performs fine too. Pixel and Galaxy are the only 2 viable options for me since they have the longest software support they will have the best resell value. OnePlus and Nothing are contenders but I'd still pick sam or pixel.
There's more to it than just specs. Overall user experience must count for something. I'd probably never buy the 8 pro but maybe the 8, or maybe I'll wait for the 9. The cameras and their software on the Google gear is clearly superior to the ones Samsung offers. They're good, don't mistake what I'm saying. They're quite good, but their output simply can't compare to what Google offers.
@@glenbarrington2634what foes Google offer. It's basically just niche AI features. They spent the entire showcase bragging about edited pictures and talking to a digital assistant who just comes up with ideas. You're basically just talking to your phone and adding yourself to pictures. Still doesn't help the fact that the Pixel showed lag in scrolling when compared to the s24 and Iphone 15. It certainly doesn't have more features than the Samsung and doesn't play games better. Samsung has actual quality of life features that are integrated throughout your entire ecosystem.
Ya, facts. GBoard is so much better when it comes to usability. Bur then Samsung keyboard also has some amazing features. It's a shame that you can't use the Keyboard AI on Google board and s-pen to text. I was forced to go onto Samsung keyyboard because of that and sacrifice Google's amazing voice to text and near perfect keyboard experience
The Pixel doesn't have stock Android. It has a skin over it like every other manufacturer applies. Stock Android is pretty much for people that like tinkering with the OS and devs.
@11:25 will it be enough for the next 7 years? With three Pixel phones so far, the 7 Pro hardware has been a disappointment. There's no way it will last as long as Google vowed to support it. With phone companies phone payments out to 36 months, I think that's the effective life. But the Samsung is starting far ahead than the Pixel 8, in terms of hardware alone...with a greater chance of lasting 36 months or longer.
TouchWiz, OneUI and many other skins are why I prefer PixelUI/stock Android. I just like minimalism when it comes to my devices regardless of it being Android or iOS. DeX and GoodLock are cool and I wish Google would develop their own variant of it but otherwise I still prefer a Pixel over a Galaxy. I have used every Galaxy since the S3 but I haven’t purchased one since the S3. When I bought the Pixel 4a it was almost enough for me to want to leave iOS altogether. I’ll continue buying Pixels over Galaxy phones unless Samsung drops OneUI.
@AziaVenom I know how far Samsung has come, I just don’t care for them anymore. OneUI is better than TouchWiz but I still don’t like either one. I have been following tech news about Samsung and many others for years and though Samsung has been killing it feature wise doesn’t mean much to me if they still have bloatware and other things that I hated about them like always having to wait for updates because of them having to implement their “fixes” on top of what Google has already added. I know Galaxy was before Pixel and I regretted getting one over a Nexus. I can’t tell who is worse nowadays Apple fanboys or Samsung fanboys. Not everyone is going to like or agree with you on things and that’s okay but I must be smoking something strong because I don’t see the hype behind Samsung or any company for that matter 🤷🏾♂️
@RetroSoulX You go on a rant and immediately talk about IOS and Samsung fan boys and act as if Google hasn't been the worst company in terms of specs and quality control. That's literally fsnboy behavior. The "bloatware" you mention are literally carrier apps, Google apps, and Microsoft apps; all of which you can delete or disable completely. I'm genuinely not even surprised because Pixel fans are always the most disingenous people.
@@jordanjackson8873 So I’m disingenuous because I display fanboy behavior? Funny enough because I’m not a fan of any of the current phones out. I may like iPhones and Pixel phones but I’m no fan of them. I also like Galaxy phones but I wouldn’t buy one currently. The quality control on all the of phones mentioned have their pros and cons. I also don’t buy my phones from the carrier because of carrier bloatware and yes I’m aware that certain apps can be deleted or disabled. I’ve seen many of your comments on the channel trying to vouch for Samsung as if they are the greatest company on earth. All 3 of those companies have their faults. I’ve used pretty much every Galaxy Skyrocket device that has been released since I owned my first and last Galaxy phone which was the S3 and I haven’t been convinced to go back yet. I’m in comment sections on RUclips and Reddit and many other platforms. Many people enjoy their Pixels, Galaxys and iPhones, there people who don’t and even people in between. It’s also funny how I also just had a similar conversation with a friend of mine earlier yesterday about Galaxy, Pixel and iPhone, he also was defending Samsung like his life depended on it but got fed up when I also pointed that all the companies have their faults. So lighten up and also use spell check.
Unfortunately with the Pixel 8 if you want decent battery life while on cellular you need to turn off 5g. On LTE my battery life is solid. I am fully aware that this is a problem on a $1,000 "Flagship" device. Google had better have this worked out on their future phones or this will be my last Pixel phone. He is right you can easily pickup the 8 pro for $799 or less. I did...
There are little things that Samsung does, which very few (if any) reviewers mention and they are noticeable as a Pixel user: 1) The lockscreen. On a Pixel, if you're using what is now called Extend Unlock you can simply tap on a notification and get taken directly to the app. This DOES NOT happen in Samsung devices. Instead, you tap on the notification, then are forced to swipe up before getting to the app. This SEEMS like a small deal, but it's VERY cumbersome in the real world when you're used to the Pixel way of doing it. It was so annoying for me on my last 3 Samsung devices that I just turned Extend Unlock of and put in my fingerprint each time. At least that way I could avoid the darn swipe up. 2) NO PHONE TAKES CLEAN SHOTS (especially up close) LIKE THE PIXEL. Sorry to yell, but it's very noticable. This actually includes the current iPhone. As a Pixel user, you KNOW almost every shot will be clean. Google's software makes sure of it. No other phone does this for you. Time and time again I see blurry shots from various phones shared in my chats. They're ALWAYS Samsung and iPhone shots. Whenever I see a crazy clean photo, I almost always find out they came from a Pixel. Again, this is especially true with close up shots. The Pixel just gets it right. 3) Samsung shutter/processing lag. I hear this is fixed in the s24U. Anyone care to comment? Reviewers have just been ignoring and making excuses for this issue as long as I can remember. It's truly nuts. Now, to be honest, the Pixel camera app (in my opinion) is the best overall, but the Tensor chip isn't it. Seriously. Google needs to switch it up because there are times when it lags. The iPhone camera app is very solid and doesn't have any shutter lag. Apple kills this, even if the shots fall behind the Pixel's.
Shutter/processing lag (and motion blur following it) are the same like on any other Samsung flagship from previous years. Don't believe what "honest" youtubers say, every year it's "shutter lag is almost gone/non existant" and every year Samsung flagship just can't take clear and usable pic of subject with even slight movement. People, kids, pets... especially indoors (even with great light), pictures end up blurry and unusable. If it was any better this year, 95% of reviews would mention it at least twenty times in all these videos, phone/camera comparissons
If you spend $1k+/- on something and can't unlock the bootloader, is it really yours? That's one of my biggest purchasing sways. I want to OWN the hardware and have control over the software. I understand this is in the weeds but I can't ignore it.
It's refreshing to see a triple OG Android user in the comments 🤞🏾.... haven't heard the word bootloader in years and the nostalgia was real when I saw the word
What do we need it for? Almost the entire hardware and software set-up is customizable. You can turn off access to all your sensors, or just cut off the mic & camera. You have customizable swipe gestures to open up apps, start a list of actions, or access native features. You can reprogram your volume keys and power button. You can completely customize and change your notification panel, quick panel, homescreen, and lockscreen together or separately. We can emulate Windows 11, emulate a bunch of new and old school consoles, and stream games and TV. We have Dex, Bixby Modes & Routines, and proximity actions. There's integrated features, clipboard, screen use, and apps throughout the entire ecosystem including smart home appliances. Samsung doesn't need a bootloader.

My conclusion was the Pixel had the better camera, but worse video, i found the pixel 8 battery just average, display was great, but i missed the .1of an inch, because it felt a lot narrower, i love the editing features they are pure magic, but once i got back from my holiday where the camera was my main focus the pixel hardly got a look in, i went back to the s23 ultra, then sold the pixel which was hard work and then traded the s23 ultra in for the s24 ultra, so the s24 ultra cost nothing. I had to switch from the Gboard to Samsuung keyboard due to the A.I features and it took probably a day to get used to it but zero issues, the camera is more flexible and they have fixed the green colour issue which annoyed me. the when had a lot of folks complain about not being as vivid, but i actually preferred it, I am used to working with a more colour accurate displays so I am used to the more muted colours, one of the other big things that I didnt pay much attention to was the anti-reflective coating but i actually now love it, the screen is excellent, battery life is amazing, Oh and one thing I forgot to mention WTF is google doing releasing a phone with 128GB in 2023!!! I have the luxury of 512 on my s24 ultra, is the pixel 8 pro a bad phone no, but once you get used to a flagship S series then its hard to go back
I wish I could get the S24 ultra power and camera and battery on a smaller screen and slightly thicker phone. Phone sizes have gotten so annoying being nearly tablet sized.
I've had both phones and I would sooooo rather have a Pixel, but I use the S Pen so much, I could never do without it. Why won't Pixel add a pen?!?! If they did, they would eviscerate the Ultra Market.
7:30 it's not just you, samsung keyboard drivese crazy as well, got gboard as replacement as well. I used nova to replace the start screen and customise my home screen too
says samsung is oversaturated meanwhile the iphone and pixel look overly saturated in the photos every Ytber shows. Also biometrics are way better on the samsung and its way more secure with the ultra sonic scanner.
Went from 13 pro max to pixel 8 pro and it just felt cheap cuz of how narrow it is. Discord runs like crap with constant stutters. Ended up getting the s24 ultra which actually feels like a flagship. Pixel 8 pro was a dissappointment.
I'm borrowing a pixel 8 pro temporary until Galaxy S25 Ultra comes out. Pixel is just trash compare to Galaxy in term of features, functionality and customization.
I had the pixel 6 and 7 pro Both had bad modems Drop calls weak wifi and battery drain Also out side of america the pixels ai features are not supported
I’m starting to not like Pixel photos. They are dull, and dark. Not representative of how the scene actually is. It just boosts the contrast too much for my taste. Samsung does that better, but I don’t like the UI.
Why can't Android (no matter the company) text quality pics and videos without using Facebook messenger, Whatsapp or Telegram? Apple does it flawlessly. Apple doesn't have to send a link, unlike Android. & Before anyone says, "Only the US uses imessage" well, I'm in the US. I also have the orange S24 Ultra, Z Fold 4, Tab S9 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. So why can't I just send a quality photo or video from Android user to another Android user? I can easily do quick sharing from my phones or tablet but what about another Android user that's not close to me where I can quick share it?
@@blueciffer1653 rcs is enabled on both phones and I'm using Google messages. It gives me the warning ⚠️ video will be trimmed and the video maybe only 15 seconds
A few things... 1/ nice video mate 2/ shutter lag does not result in blurry image, that's a longer exposure! lag is when you press the button and the shutter only gets released when you lift your finger, resulting in a delay. 3/ notifications!! the pixel offers MUCH better granularity WRT notification options for each app... Samsung is all on or all off.. very crude and shitty. 4/ both phones (perhaps and android thing) are TERRIBLE at staying unlocked in Trusted places, like my home, or even when connected to my car as a trusted device. Why google!?
From the perspective of /any/ user - camera experience on Samsung phones alone makes it not so smart choice to switch from any device, let alone Pixel or Iphone. As soon as you start deleting all those blurry and unusable pictures of moving subjects (not that there aren't many other problems), you'll realize that all that hardware power of S24U really translates to nothing in real life usage.
I have been a loyal Apple user for over a decade, having recently sold my iPhone 15 Pro. I've recently purchased the Samsung S24 Ultra and am quite pleased with its performance. This phone is more versatile than the iPhone, offering more functionality.
Bingo
Welcome to the Samsung Knights 🫡
That's not what loyal means.
I see so many “i have been loyal fan” comments that i am starting to think that these are bots commenting. Could you make your comment more specific please? What functionality did you like so you ditched “decade long loyalty” ?
And it only gets better with future updates. Trust me.
Thanks for watching! This is certainly the longest video I've ever made 😅
A great video it was.

it's good! love my p8p but the s24u looks like a real winner
I'm more of a Pixel guy but the Galaxies are S Tier smartphones in their respective rights.
Exxxxxxxxxxxactly!!! Notice he never mentioned any of those... Lol. Minimal is there thing.

Pixel software + Samsung hardware = iPhone killer ❤🙌🏻
I had this discussion with someone years ago about Google and Samsung teaming up to make the an S Tier smartphone. Imagine if Google bought Samsung mobile department. Samsung is responsible for all the hardware and Google is responsible for making sure the software is perfectly optimize to maximize the hardware to it's fullest capabilities. This would be a dream come true for Android users.
They used to have samsung google play edition
@Rivs5117 As long as google didn't use there garbage processors....
Why didn't they make the Google edition phones anymore 😢
@braskabanIi8011 I remember having one. It was so good.
Once you get deep into one ui you will see how great it is
I was also using a pixel 6 Pro.
This didn't age well
Loved the longer video Jordan!
I totally get the Gboard substitution.
Its been my default even on iOS, although it behaves differently there for some reason.
I moved from the 7pro to the 23 ultra... They were close too .. But the 24 ultra is a huge step up and I am thrilled with it. Even the Samsung keyboard is better with the 24. The ai stuff enhances it. I wish gboard had similar writing style and grammar adjustments.
G board does have the coreection and AI stuff on the s24 ultra at least.
You are 100% correct about the Samsung keyboard. Once I switched to Gboard I never looked back...⌨️💯🔥🔥🔥
I use Swiftkey and it works like a charm within my Microsoft ecosystem.
@@mackmccord3743 why are you asking him that?
@@mackmccord3743 you can add gboard to your samsung phone also
I will pick S24 Ultra.

You forgot the best part! Face recognition!
@msquirrel1 Both phones have face recognition, so I don't get your response.
One of my dream smartphones... Google software + Samsung hardware = S Tier smartphone 💯💯
Tried the S24 ultra on two different occasions. Just keep going back to my trusty pixel 8 pro. Pixel experience is my preference.
I’m considering pixel what is this Google experience people talk about I’m serious curious

Imo, the samsung is refined due to their consistent history of releases, the pixel is still learning to run due to googles...many, many mistakes...
I really loved the Pixel 8 Pro, but the Battery and the Heating was just not good. I got the S24 Ultra now and i just love this device, i like Stock Android more than One UI, but the rest is just so much better then the Pixel 8 Pro.

Excellent 👍 review. Your Point-of-view is just right-on! Keep up the great work.
Well said specially the last sentence I do really hope Google should provide a better optimize to pixel user 😢 in the coming years
Wow! From a design and software perspective, you would be very happy with an apple device.
Pretty much spot on but my carrier gave me a $1,000 trade in for my Pixel 6 Pro to buy the S24 Ultra. I didnt even pay that much for my P6P.
Nice review, but pointing out a couple of things that aren't factually correct -
I like both the pixel and Samsung. I do go to Samsung more often though, the pen is a big selling point.
Couldn't you just download Gboard? :)
Pixel keyboard is nothing but Gboard. Can be downloaded from play store.
@@estiennetaylor1260 but you don't get the same one as on pixel with the Ai option. Just like yeah I can dl the Google phone app but it wont have the pixel features.
Great video. May i ask how did you get the AI toggle on the top row of the Gboard keyboard on the Samsung S24 Ultra ? It’s at 07:11.
Amen
The s24u with native pixel launcher would be killer
Pixel 8 pro, for the software 💫✨.
Not as good at the s24
I don't notice that on my pixel 8 but maybe you should try to play music on a display model to really see.
I don't want to be a butt, but stock Android is not Pixel. Pixel is pixel. That's why when you get a Pixel device it has extra features that say a Nokia with Google One "Stock Android" wouldn't have. Stock. Android is what they slap on an Android device that is not a Pixel. Let's be clear: it is confusing but stock Android is not Pixel. Pixel has its own software on top of stock-Android.
I suspect you are fighting a losing battle! In this modern world, the truth isn't nearly as important as what people believe!
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!! 👑🇯🇲🔥💥🌟⭐💯💎
I've been a Pixel user since the P6P and I love the experience, can I ask how you got to the icons customisation settings for the battery @ 8.59? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.
It's a OnePlus phone so its not there on pixel
thanks, I thought he was demonstrating a Pixel.@@vashishtmadhur
🤣its okay!@@SJF15
Wouldn't the p8p vs s24p be a better comparison?
Bro i need those Android 15 wallpapers. Where can i get my hands on them?
Mentioned in his previous video ruclips.net/video/liSnDyHhm-s/видео.htmlfeature=shared
I recently traded my 15 pm shit and bought this masterpiece in black and I'm glad I did that.
Just done the same
when did sammy used Stainless steel?
The previous phones had polished aluminum which looks a lot like stainless steel.
Anyone onows how to get the widget of date and time shown in the video?
@@RetroSoulX okay bud
Link the wallpapers please
Unfortunately with the Pixel 8 if you want decent battery life while on cellular you need to turn off 5g. On LTE my battery life is solid. I am fully aware that this is a problem on a $1,000 "Flagship" device. Google had better have this worked out on their future phones or this will be my last Pixel phone.
He is right you can easily pickup the 8 pro for $799 or less. I did...
S23 ultra was aluminum not stainless steel
You will be surprised how uninformed these so called youtubers are. They just care about saying some crab and grabbing the bag.
There are little things that Samsung does, which very few (if any) reviewers mention and they are noticeable as a Pixel user:
1) The lockscreen.
I love my Pixel Fold software that's what made sit my Z Fold down on the shelf.
imagine if they somehow made a new samsung nexus, damn.
Where are the wallpapers
If you spend $1k+/- on something and can't unlock the bootloader, is it really yours? That's one of my biggest purchasing sways. I want to OWN the hardware and have control over the software. I understand this is in the weeds but I can't ignore it.
Days of bootloader unlocking is coming to a end.
Samsung doesn't need a bootloader.
correct and errors and spelling uk english please i was daily driving the s23 ultra and Pixel 8 pro for a few months.
I used nova to replace the start screen and customise my home screen too
What a great video, Jordan. Awesome job. 👌🏻
says samsung is oversaturated meanwhile the iphone and pixel look overly saturated in the photos every Ytber shows.
I had the pixel 6 and 7 pro
Both had bad modems
Drop calls weak wifi and battery drain
Also out side of america the pixels ai features are not supported
Can you share home screen wallpaper of pixel 8 pro.
I’m starting to not like Pixel photos. They are dull, and dark. Not representative of how the scene actually is. It just boosts the contrast too much for my taste. Samsung does that better, but I don’t like the UI.
To see the two phones in and out I must say that Samsung is the best
Google will never go back to Qualcomm, which we never see Google does something like Samsung do.
Is this after the new update that just came out.
If you are talking about the s24 Ultra, yes. He was able to move the vividness slider
Not sure why you are having that issue. Maybe you don't have RCS enabled?
@@blueciffer1653 rcs is enabled on both phones and I'm using Google messages. It gives me the warning ⚠️ video will be trimmed and the video maybe only 15 seconds
@@eciv2006 I've not noticed this issue. And I'm fairly certain the videos are longer than 5 seconds. Something isn't right.
They look amazing ☺️☺️☺️
A few things...
1/ nice video mate
2/ shutter lag does not result in blurry image, that's a longer exposure! lag is when you press the button and the shutter only gets released when you lift your finger, resulting in a delay.
My s24 ultra is the best phone i have ever used in my life.
Basically put the pixel software into the galaxy hardware and you'd have the perfect phone.
what about wifi7 over wifi6
