Our carriers are there to protect trade. Everytime Iran wants something they close the straights at the exit of the Persian Gulf.
This prevents OPEC Nations from transporting Oil to the outside world. This in turn effects global oil prices, primarily in Western Europe. (US doesn't get it's oil from the Middle East. Mostly from Fracking in the Canada and lower 48 and drilling in Alaska.) Iran threatens to close the Persian Gulf to force other Middle Eastern Nations and Western Europe to put pressure on the US to do something.
It's just politics on a grand scale.

did u know that new Zealand and hawaii are already using electric from renewable sources?
did u know that arab oil lifting cost is already higher than it selling price? basically they now only got money from forced pilgrimages cause everybody started declining their oil consumptions.
did u know that US didn't buy their oil stocks from middle east anymore? their primary source came from the new oil resources found at north American.
your small brain who kept assuming that the western all want your oil is never been true.
russia has oil, north american countries has oil, and if they are so desperate they can taking oil on the south pole which has 3x times more oils than all the country around the world combine.

Grubby bum that is a shame, would’ve been nice to build some bridges with Iran. Though I think part of that was because the secondary aim of invading Iraq and Afghanistan was to gain bases and allies on either side of Iran. Cheney and Rumsfeld were not the types to ignore that kind of strategic gain and likely envisioned a future conflict with Iran if their plans in Iraq and Afghanistan had gone well. But that’s just my pet theory.

US forces don't just rush in ships and troops from day one of a war. Instead, we start massive 24/7 aerial and cruise missile bombing campaigns, that go on for weeks and weeks.
Then, AFTER the enemies key bases and forces that could endanger our carrier groups are disabled, THEN we move the ships in closer, and THEN we launch massive ground invasions.

Iraq and Iran both had/have conventional militaries, infrastructures, etc. The war went very well in Iraq, both times. The stuff that happened after the war in 2003 was because of local sectarian issues and corrupt Iraqi politicians who wanted to be the next Saddam. The mistake President George W. Bush made was to try to do "nation building", as if muslims can actually be civilized. President Donald Trump isn't so naive or idealistic. If war does break out between the US and Iran, it will be limited to air strikes and missile strikes, and *maybe* limited ground action with special forces, all designed solely to eliminate their weapons and destroy any nuclear sites and missile factories. I don't think President Trump is even interested in regime change, but I imagine an attempt at a decapitation strike will play a role in the early hours of the war. With the Iranian navy and air forces blown to bits, their missile sites annihilated, and their nuclear ambitions ended with bunker-busters, the US can simply declare victory and set up a bunch of drones to keep tabs on things for the next few decades. The Iranian regime can continue to whine on their state-run media, if they even have any broadcast antennas left, but they'll be rendered impotent and irrelevant.
There won't be long columns of tanks and humvees rolling into Tehran. There won't be an Iranian insurgency, because you can't have an insurgency against missiles raining from the sky.

      @n00btotale 3 года назад

      @@fakecubed
      1. Stability
US and Israel has been the largest destabilising force in the Middle East in modern times. Sure Saddam wanted to take Kuwait, but we could easily dampen these expansionist fantasies. More importantly, the regime served as a buffer to Iranian expansionism and policed the region so we did not have to. In so doing, providing a stable foundation on which investors could bet with a some shred of confidence. ISIS did not exist because it could not exist alongside Saddam. Only through the power vacuum left over could they rally the support of regime supporters who became disenfranchised after its fall. In the light of this, it should be clear how foolish it is to blow up all shreds of order and looking around surprised when the pigeons come home to roost.
The proof is in the pudding: Over the last few years since the invasion, more people have died in Iraq than those killed over the entirety of the regime's lifetime.
      2. Asymmetric War
Time and time again we have cut the snake's head, only to see it splinter, reform and bite us back. To depict such organisations as having clear cut boundaries with free-standing easy to strike installations is totally contrary to the fundamental principles of such warfare. You might be able to strike some high value conventional targets, but dispersed bunkers come far cheaper than missiles. They will be down, but not out. We will be burdened with financing these drone strikes without end.
      3. To what end?
Such devastation will not only obliterate the popular pro-US sentiment amongst the population, but also push a generally anti-western dictatorship towards being more accommodating to Russian interests.

      what reasons? Just curious.

    • @YAH2121
      @YAH2121 5 лет назад +131

@@nosamsemaj9150 Military reason: You're gonna need way more troops to build up in the region then there are right now. And that build up will take awhile. Then, what will even be the objectives? WMDs? Unlike Iraq WMDs, there's no international support for that. The US would also want a coalition of nations as well, which i predict would be harder to do this time around. A land invasion would be so foolish i dont even think Trump want it. Limited airstrikes, if that, is the likely option.
Economic: A war with Iran and turning the Strait of Hormuz into a warzone would send oil prices skyrocketing, hurting the economy greatly, even in the U.S. This would hurt Trump politically, not help him. The global economy is still semi-recovering from the recession of 10-11 years ago.
Political reason: A war with Iran would not help Trump at all, in fact it will be the opposite. It will not have any real public support besides the Israeli lobby and warhawks, no int'l support besides the Israeli lobby. The economic fallout of a war with Iran wont be worth it politically for Trump, it would piss off his base who voted for him specifically cuz of his anti-intervention election campaign in 2016, it will give his opponents an obvious bludgeon in debates and elections, etc. Despite Bolton's rhetoric Trump, the Commander-in-Chief, himself has said he doesnt want a war with Iran, and Iranians dont see a war coming either. Of course, this is just Words and Trump's known for flip-flopping, but the fact stands. Of course things could change. But as of TODAY, i dont see any reason this will escalate besides a false flag or something. Despite the build up.

Actually it's because Iran has the ability to block access to the Persian Gulf sea which contains some of the largest refineries and drillings of oil in the world and thousands of oil tankers sail through there.
That's why the US wants to overthrow the Iranian government and install a puppet, so they can control access to all the oil reserves in the Persian Gulf.

Er...a submarine-launched anti-ship missile is actually less of a threat than a submarine launched torpedo. The former can be readily shot down by any number of anti-missile systems aboard US warships. The latter is much harder to deal with, and potentially devastating in its damage.
Typically, submarines don't launch missiles at targets that can defend themselves. They launch torpedoes.
Furthermore, submarines launching missiles are basically loudly announcing their exact position to everyone in the region. This is very dangerous if their are any anti-submarine forces in the area...which is a specialty of the US Navy, between its destroyers and carriers being replete with anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

Sub launched supersonic and hypersonic missiles pose a serious threat.......you don't know what you're talking.......when you launch a supersonic missile to just 100km it takes just 1 minute........and sea skimming missiles can't be detected until they clear radar horizon which is 15 to 20km.........when your ship board radars detect a supersonic missile at 15km, then the missile could Pierce your ship with out leaving you time to retaliate........how long it takes to cover a distance of 15km?? It covers in less than 20 sec........do u know what's the operator response and launch preparation time?? It takes 30 to 40 sec to respond...........missiles like yakhonth/bramos could go complete sea skimming in lo-lo profile at mach 2+ speeds...........subs launch missiles from 50ft below, and due to the increase in oceans shipping vessel traffic the ranges of passive sonars have fallen to just 50-60km.........finding out a sub in a noisier environment isn't easy........let's assume you detected a sub at 100km, how you're going to reach the target area?? ASW helicopters need roughly 20min to reach a target at 100km as they fly at speeds of 340km/hr........ASW planes like P8 Poseidon are subsonic and need 15min.........by the time you reach target area the sub would have launched a missile and skipped away...........confusing a torpedo with countermeasures is much easier and you can evade torpedoes as they move at slow speeds..........by the way, what's the nominal range of a torpedo?? 40km?? The moment you get sub at 40km you're already under track........

I think the implication is that the sub launched underwater missile can cruise like a torpedo for long distances before transitioning to air for the final hop.
It would indeed be better to stay underwater the entire time, but flying up a few hundred feet is a great way to improve terminal guidance without having to have the mothership in range, which is a traditional limiting factor on torpedo ranges.
TLDR, Perhaps it's just a way of making a longer range torpedo at cost of being vulnerable to IADS?

This sort of a weapon would accomplish a few things - first of all, its launch won't necessarily reveal the position of the launch vessel. It would be even better for submarines but only if it's able to make a silent start from a tube, with it's own engine. Since Iran uses mostly mini subs which are quite slow, have low range and aren't the best silenced(?), a weapon like that would make the tactic of waiting for enemy on a static position much more survivable (which is more or less what all conventional subs do in shallow waters).
Secondly it might be much easier for USN to defeat a cruise missile, because of all the airborne radars they employ. Something that starts from the water close to the target will have a higher rate of success.
Last thing is that under some circumstances you could maybe (?) get away with eliminating a turbojet engine entirely and make it purely rocket propelled (?). It would be much cheaper and easier to make but the attack profile would be kinda strange. Instead there would be an electric motor like in a torpedo driving the entire container with a missile underwater, a cable and possibly a passive sonar (?). Otherwise it would only use the boat's fire solution the entire way. In the strait of Hormuz you could make it work but I don't really know the capability of Iranian R&D.
If you just coupled a regular ASM with an underwater vehicle you would have a more expensive and much slower weapon in the end, even if with a slightly longer range. I don't think this weapon (if it exists) is made to attack targets at exceedingly long ranges. Iran has harder time detecting US targets at larger distances than the other way.

1 The US has always had a Carrier in Persian Gulf. The USS Abraham Lincoln has done several tours there.
2 All B-52s are nuclear capable. It was what the aircraft was originally designed to do.
3 If your going to talk about the Iran deal at least tell people what it does, and doesn't cover.
There was no agreement from Iran to stop there ballistic missile development. Nobody builds ballistic missiles without the intent of putting nuclear weapons on it.
4 Hezbollah isn't allied with Iran. It's part of the Iran government. It was formed during the Iraq/Iran war.

      1. In iran's deal you asked us to don't enrich uranium to a point suitable for a nuclear bomb, & we stayed true to our deal (based on at least 8 different reports from IAEA)
      2. US did not delivered his promises at all
      3. Don't expect us to give up all of our warfare, including our missiles... We've seen what US does to defenseless countries
      4. We never had the intentions & never will build a nuclear weapon, our religion doesn't allow us to build a mass destruction weapon like that which slaughters more innocent people than soldiers
      5. Your media calls Hezbollah a terrorist group, while all they have done so far is to defend their country against Israel's invasion in the 33 days war...
      Peace ✌

Except during negotiations It was presented by the US for Iran to discontinue ballistic missile. Iran refused any deal regarding that. So they were allowed to continue the program. Nobody builds a ballistic missile without the intent of putting a nuclear weapon on it. Also inspections could only be allowed with over two week notice. So there is no way Iran couldn't produce a nuclear weapon and delivery platform under the deal with the US knowing until it was too late . Combine this with the fact that Iran would make no deal which involved them abandoning ballistic missile development, it's clear they intend to build a nuclear weapon. Iran is sitting under a very large oil reserve and they can't refine enough if it to produce enough energy to satisfy their needs cheaply? Sounds far fetched at the get go.
So your wrong, Iran had no intent on following though on any true deal and had no intent to build a nuclear plant for just power needs
