its not only the oil. since the us abandoned the gold standard for the dollar, the value of the dollar is only bound to how much value market participants assign to it. one of the important market participants are oil companies. you could only buy oil with the us dollar, thus securing its value. as far as i know oil companies in the middle east wanted to change that, and make it possible to buy oil with other currencies as well like, threatening the US. because the dollar has no intrinsic value, it is more fragile than people believe it to be - read that in some book
Only 1 error about this video I’d like to point out. Iran did actually favor the US overthrowing Saddam. In fact, after September 11, Iran offered the US intelligence on key military Taliban targets which the US reluctantly accepted but never formally acknowledged. Iran was hoping to restore diplomatic ties with the US again but immediately after Afghanistan the US labeled Iran one of the 3 axis of evil. Despite the US backstabbing, Iran again offered intelligence to the US for the Iraq war. This time the US rejected. The moderates in Iran were humiliated for trying to restore diplomacy with the US and hardliners went on a very aggressive strategy to influence Iraqi Shias to gain power. Since then, Iran has not showed any interest in diplomacy. Personally, I think that’s what US wants. Keeping Iran an enemy gives the US justification to have a permanent military presence in the region.
0:23 *Three countries always seem to be involved You're forgetting that the USA is heavily involved in the Middle East's affairs, no matter which country it is
Its not just oil. America would never make an affair like this so black and white. as the danger of Israel and Saudi Arabia becoming leading giants in the middle east, America will help them build stable economies for corrupt trade, not just oil. If you look at Dubai in Arabia, that was built off mass slave trade. Stable corruption is America's goal in the Middle East.
Lebanon is also a failing state, over the recent years the country has been plagued with corruption and poverty. Especially in 2019- early 2021, there are a lot of protests, and the explosion didn’t help with that either, causing its main economic source, off shore imports to be cut off. I would know this, since I a, Lebanese.

It also largely ignores the brutal and authoritarian nature of the governments that are Saudi Arabia and Iran, as well as many of the other countries in the region, and how this played a role in the power politics of the middle east. I'm an expert on the subject and This video is not accurate .. Iran is much more involved in destabilizing the region .. and trying to control it .. Saudi Arabia and America are responding by trying to stop it .. they aren't efficient in doing that .. Another conflict not mentioned that could be more important then Iran-soudi conflict Is the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Islamist radical political movement such as "the Muslim brotherhood" The Muslim brotherhood now controls Turkey .. Tunisia .. one of the two governments of Libya .. they controlled Egypt for one year before the militery removed them .. they control large part of the Syrian rebels .. and they controlled Sudan until the latest revolution .. Frankly for Saudi Arabia their conflict with Sunni religious political movement is more of a priority then their conflict with iran ..
Based on my knowledge, and looking at almost every single perspective, I can say with absolute certainty that this is the last video you want to watch. Truly a joke.
Exactly. Proxy wars within proxy wars. The US backs Saudi Arabia for economic and strategic reasons and Russia backs Iran due to the byproducts of the Cold War.
The US added unnecessary conflict to the region. Also, after WW1 & WW2 the western countries screwed up the region by letting everyone take whatever they wanted and not establishing order.
Most likely a second Iraq-Iran War. Saddam made it clear he wanted to become a dominant power in the middle east with the first Iran-Iraq War and Operation: Desert Storm. Both times his objective was to dominate the oil trade in the middle east. More than likely if Saddam won this hypothetical second war with Iran he would eventually become Saudi Arabia's next rival because of the oil trade
@@mrzcountryballs6359 Back when exactly? In 1953, when the democratically elected government of Mohammad Mossadegh was overthrown by the United States at the behest of Britain? Israel was founded in 1948, long before the Iranian 'revolution' of 1973.

Well you're absolutely right, but I think the main point of the video was to look at the regional powers in the middle east, not the global powers the USA and the Soviets. So the main focus was on Saudi Arabia and Iran rather than America, because after all, the video is only 10:18 minutes long and its hard to cram that much information into a short segmented time frame, so they chose to omit the USA's involvement for the sake of prioritizing and time constraints.

This videp is heavily downplaying the impact of the US politics in that region. The USA caused most of these conflicts between 1953 and 2001 to gain rights for their oil companies and while doing so made the states buy their weapons. sometimes using israel as a middle man.

No one's saying it was all flowers and rainbows in the Middle East prior to US involvement, and I believe that the US genuinely wanted the best (for themselves first, then the area) by getting involved... but if you've read any sort of modern history on the Middle East, you'd know that US involvement complicated matters by arming different countries (Iraq, Israel, Saudi Arabia, even Iran) and then going and turning on them/turning themselves on each other. Middle Eastern politics were extremely complicated before US involvement. After a world dominating country got involved, it only got more complicated. Don't downplay that.
Pretty sure I agreed the US made error and still making them. But it hardly the only one playing games over there and selling weapons USSR back when that what it was now Russia, China, England France and on and on sell weapons and support groups, yet some reason it’s only the US you want to call on this. I love nothing better for the US to back off. Not just in the middle east but everywhere that’s not directly treating us. Sadly, they do not consult every person in the country before they do these things. And let's not forgot many groups where begging us to come to their aid so let not down play that we and other country where invited to “complicated matters” . If we refuse we heartless and do not care about the people, if we sell weapons we the imperial evil empire. There just no winning and that’s the problem. No matter what we do or do not do people are going to be mad us.
@ Ross The Middle East has always been a powder keg. And you're right, it has been played by the UK, France, USSR and a host of other countries throughout the centuries. However, the US is the match that continuously starts the fires. Had the US not overthrown the democratically elected, secular government of Mossadegh in 1953, Iran could easily be the most westernised, US-friendly state in that region. That CIA-backed coup has caused untold death and destruction. The US armed Saddam Hussein to the teeth. Nor did they have any problem selling him chemical weapons as he gassed the Kurds. The CIA's creation of the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan was the forerunner of al-queda and ISIS. Their backing of various dictators proves the US cares nothing for democracy in the region. Even today, it supports the regime in Bahrain, along with Saudi Arabia, propping up a Sunni monarchy in a majority-Shia country. The US needs to completely back out of the middle east and let the chips fall where they do.

Speaking from someone who experienced the war first hand, I was there for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005-2006 as a combat Corpsman with The 2-7 Marines. We set up the election polls and provided security. There were 11 grenade attacks that day which were all thrown by children. Because they knew we might have second thoughts about shooting children. Whenever we asked about the details of whos running or who their voting for (or anything important for that matter) we were always told "Don't worry about it. It's above your paygrade. The more you worry about it, the more you get complacent. And complacency gets you killed." Eventually being told this over and over again, I felt like a dog being told to fetch over and over again.

its not only the oil. since the us abandoned the gold standard for the dollar, the value of the dollar is only bound to how much value market participants assign to it. one of the important market participants are oil companies. you could only buy oil with the us dollar, thus securing its value. as far as i know oil companies in the middle east wanted to change that, and make it possible to buy oil with other currencies as well like, threatening the US. because the dollar has no intrinsic value, it is more fragile than people believe it to be - read that in some book
But it's actually a noosr

Iran is much more involved in destabilizing the region .. and trying to control it ..
Saudi Arabia and America are responding by trying to stop it .. they aren't efficient in doing that ..
Another conflict not mentioned that could be more important then Iran-soudi conflict
Is the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Islamist radical political movement such as "the Muslim brotherhood"
The Muslim brotherhood now controls Turkey .. Tunisia .. one of the two governments of Libya .. they controlled Egypt for one year before the militery removed them .. they control large part of the Syrian rebels .. and they controlled Sudan until the latest revolution ..
Frankly for Saudi Arabia their conflict with Sunni religious political movement is more of a priority then their conflict with iran ..

You are sooo ignorant that you are putting all of your problems on the usa instead of electing honest people who won't sell you. Keep blaming the us and supporting your thieves and governments idiot. You don't get to blame anyone for putting their own interests as priorities. As for problems in the middle east: it's because of a religion called islam. Full of ignorant people praying and killing all day without being productive or responsible and the list goes on. Wake up idiot.
This videp is heavily downplaying the impact of the US politics in that region. The USA caused most of these conflicts between 1953 and 2001 to gain rights for their oil companies and while doing so made the states buy their weapons. sometimes using israel as a middle man.
/eyeroll yes it always that big bad USA. Because it was such a love fest over there for the 500 thousand years before it came alone. Did the US screw up in how it handled lot of things over there yes it did. I truely hope we learn from our mistakes and do not repeat them. But please do not delude yourself into the it's all someone else fault and it be peaches and cream if this one side stay out of it mind set.
@ Ross
The Middle East has always been a powder keg.

And they are all the same in leadership

Yes they are
They mentioned several times about American involvement and even went on to say that the state of 21st century Iraq was because the US didn't know what it was doing, and you can figure that a lot of what the Saudis did was backed with US money from oil
I don't think they undersold I think they mentioned the US where they needed to because this is the proxy war within the proxy war (US vs Russia)
And complacency gets you killed."
Eventually being told this over and over again, I felt like a dog being told to fetch over and over again.
