Saudi Arabia and the US have a partnership that's been in the making for over seven decades. It started after World War II and survived the Iranian Revolution, the Cold War, the Gulf War, September 11, and the proliferation of conflicts across the Middle East. This whole time, the US has been selling weapons to Saudi Arabia -- now its number one customer. Saudis bought bombs, tanks, guns, and planes over the years to defend themselves from various threats. The US supplied those weapons because the Saudi’s threats have usually been a threat to the US as well.
Today, there's a shift in the relationship. Saudi Arabia’s intervention in Yemen has created the worst humanitarian disaster in the world - and thrown the Middle East into chaos. The problem is, the Saudis are using US bombs to do it.

lolol
If you look at where America gets its oil, the number one place is...the US. Second is Canada and third flips each year between Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. And only 7% of the oil is coming from the Middle East, most of which is coming from Saudi Arabia. I was stationed in the Middle East I saw convoys of oil being IMPORTED into Iraq to sustain the army there and empty trucks would return. If the goal was to maximize oil supplies it would be cheaper to have no army there. One M1 Abrams tank gets 2 gallons per mile. It’s fun to believe in conspiracy theories but these stories are getting American soldiers killed in the Middle East
@@Hockeyskill9 exactly Chris, this is one of the biggest BS myth that people believe
That counter argument is really deceptive. Yes, the country supplies itself, but the companies that extract the oil and sell it around the globe have massive facilities in the middle east.

If its inefficient increase the quantity. Solar panels on ALL new builds would be a start.

@@Hi-bq9zc Love your comment but going to play devil's advocate on this one. Dat Communism tho? I mean who would have thought giving people in the sandy lands literal metric tons of "bang bangs" would end with them pointing the guns at each other instead of the USSR. I mean just maybe if we could have sat down at a convention maybe have some representatives of the Middle East and talk about boarders maybe, maybe the US would be selling them Slurpee instead of guns. I mean it's hot out there so am I that wrong to think we could sell some Slurpees over there?

First of all I think if they survived that long without slurpees they have a way to keep cool.
Second of all the Middle east is not one contry.
I'm amazed at the editing of this video and also the graphics in the video like the animated chart.
I agree! I trying to learn after effects after seeing these Vox videos. Amazing work but I must say I can only imagine the amount of work for the artists.
The research and animation, and narration is really good
too bad they dont tell everything on their videos. everything else is good
@@renz2k they would need 100 videos of 10 min. if they have to tell everything :) Just appreciate that they try to explain something so complex in a 10' video!
@@mattiamantovani5475 Yep, even if it were say.. 3 people on the team that produced the video, in one week you’re looking at 120 hours worth of labor without overtime. In my experience as an editor a 40 week is the exception, not the rule. Especially when there’s a deadline. This is on top of all the research done beforehand to create the article.
60-120 minute documentaries take months or in some cases years to complete. As awesome as the longer format is, it locks down resources which prevent them from being current to the news cycle and you’re not gonna have a successful RUclips presence with releasing a video every 3-6 months.
Serialized segments could be the way to go. This could have been a 3 hour video and there’d still be people in the comments about how insufficient it is. Almost like people might have to do some research for themselves because of the complexities and nuance involved. 🥴
Excelent video. Congratulations!
why didn't you add the Iraq-Iran War?

This reminds me of the first Iron Man when Tony sees that his weapons were being sold to the terrorists that took him hostage.

The thing is. The US doesn’t want a stable and democratic Middle East, as they would not be able to offer benefits of protection in stable regions. In collaboration with Israel, the US has tried to keep the region perpetually unstable, with their allies, whoever they might be (now, it’s Saudi Arabia, but at one point the US even rooted for Saddam Hussein) somewhat out of the commotion or actively fueling the conflicts even further with grave power imbalances. This is the problem that needs to be addressed.
This video is just obvious propaganda
@C caymer who are you referring to when you're talking about 'you Muslims'? While obviously very wrongly and shortsightedly, China has been doing this for not such a long time yet, and is already facing grave criticism. Meanwhile, the US and US-led coalitions have killed large numbers of innocents over the past several decades to further not their homeland security, but their economic interests. It's only logical that some Muslims feel an aversion towards the groups that have put them in perpetual danger for at least the last half century.
We supported Sadam because while he was an authoritarian and genocidal mad man he kept Iran in check and he was also anti communist removing Sadam and Gaddafi was the worst thing we have ever done in the middle east
@Colonel Forbin If you go back far enough, then yes, most of it is caused by the British. However, the illusion that Israel is not at fault for any of this, is utter nonsense. Arabs can hold states for themselves and have done so very successfully in the past, which is why wealths of knowledge came from specifically that region during the period between 900 and 1500 AD. Don't overgeneralize here, as that just weakens your point. I don't hate jews and I don't blame them, or any other religious group for that matter, for anything. It's bad and inhumane policy that is to blame here, and that's just the thing Israel and the US have been exercising in the Middle East.
@@jerrydickerson1111 Yet Saddam had to be 'removed' because he couldn't be kept 'in check', according to the US.
sometimes the arms holder isnt the problem, but rather the arms dealer, he owns and knows how to use his weapons.

And that which @@vanlao6367 said made Iraq an easy target. Let's not for one moment assume that this *really* were the reasons, though. That's for the fatally naive to fall for, the kind of people who can't wait to buy into every piece of war propaganda on CNN or Fox News.
Saudi Arabia is not responsible for its citizens where they go and what they do
@@cameronash5492 Not related to me, but most American History classes only go up until the 70's with a portion of the last chapter for the 80's to present. Even then ,they just give a gist of it.
