Why the US and Iran are fighting over this tiny waterway

- The Strait of Hormuz, “the jugular of the global economy," has become a useful bargaining chip for Iran.
Become a Video Lab member! bit.ly/video-lab
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway that lies between Iran and Oman. This 21 mile-wide passage supports 20% of the world’s oil supply. A closure of this waterway could send the global economy into a tailspin.
In recent months, several oil tankers have been seized, attacked and harassed. These oil tankers - and this narrow water passage - are at the center of the conflict between the US and Iran. It's a conflict that spans decades and has the potential to escalate in one of the world’s most important oil chokepoints.

How can you hide the fact British first captured Iran tanker. In response Iran captured British tanker
That's because it passed trough the strait of Gibraltar, which is prohibited by Un sanctions
considering that the Iranian tanker known as grace 1 was breaking international law and sanctions imposed by Europe (nothing to do with Iran and the US) on Syria as its in a Civil war and was in British waters, Britain was fully within its right to stop and size the Grace 1, Iran however captured the British tanker Stena Impero while in international waters. the incident has nothing to do with the US's and irans current conflict.
Iranian tanker was in international shipping lane, the brits seized it by violence, dragged it into giblartar's water, which is Spanish btw and claimed it was in their waters wherein eruopean sanctions are imposed on Syria.

Brains Applied - Unraveling The Human Mind What war exactly?
@@krnyjan7156 Assuming the situation will escalate off course 😊 Sorry, I should've added that
well they probably hold them at the sea so chute them from the plane
thats a horrible joke
@@krnyjan7156 I think he's referring to a US Iran war...
It's not gonna happen though, and I doubt there will be many refugees coming from Iran, they will likely stay and fight against a foreign invader... Iran is different from most of its neighbours by being a old and mostly cultural homogenous country with all the stability and patriotism it entails...
Brains Applied - Unraveling The Human Mind Ok, I agree with that, but I doubt there will be war.
"Change your course 3-6-0 degrees?"
"Well lads, they said to keep going straight!"
Its kind of sad that this comment is even this far down! Lol
Michael Weiske
You caught that too 😂
It means to go north. 360, same as 0 degrees on a compas
Sad to say these are the descendants of the great Persian empire

The great Persians were blonde. These folks are mixed with Arabs, Turks, and Mughals.
Excellent narration 👌🏽
"Alter your course to 360 degrees immediately"

Trump is that guy in school. Who used to bully the whole class without any reason.
Aman Chandravanshi actually, the us government for years has been the guy in school who bullies other classmates just because
But he's also the same guy who would get beaten up by the Seniors. Like a Sophomore bully or something.
Don't worry, China is about to become the new kid in school who is 3 years older and got expelled from the previous one for stabbing the principal

4:23 how can you mistook a passenger plane for a fighter jet!!!
Probably because they thought the passenger plane IS THE FIGHTER JET.
they detect it through a radar or based on intel, not binoculars...
Switching to renewable energy will literally solve almost all major global issues.
Go eat a carrot
@@sundaypro ?
You don’t get it boomer
Will it really? Iran's economy relies on oil. What will they do when everyone doesn't need oil anymore?
@@mintcake2668 they need to diversify the ways they earn money, renewables are the way forward wether we like it or not. Relying on 1 resource to keep your economy running never works and it works even less if that resource is non renewable.
These are always the best Vox videos.
Learned so much about Iranian/USA conflict.
You think you learned. You got misinformed unfortunately.
Too bad you only learn one side of the story
You havent learned nothing mate you just learned misinformation
Vox is very one sided news (pro USA) be careful
It's the best video on the subject so far....imo you should update it to the lastest affairs
Not only did Iraq try to break the stalemate by focusing on tankers, but also focusing on civilian targets hoping Iran would give in. And that is a main reason Iran is also very hostile against Iraq.
yeah saddam used chemicals in iran
And iran still beat Iraq. Iraq had all the support from the world and still couldn’t beat iran. Now look at Iraq!

This is a new experience. I did not know a single bit of information sketched out in this video. Thanks for research, the nice presentation, and for opening up a huge barrel of information that I will have to dig into. ;-)

@@MeazurAli brunei is nothing compared to middle east.
@@MeazurAli South East Asia is diffrent then Middle East. Middle East just a complete conflict zone with each countries having too much conflict over time while in South East Asia its already in peace and mostly are having dispute with China
“Alter your course 360 degrees”
They wanted them to do a 360 then proceed the way they were going?
360 means north
Alter your course 360 and make a 360 turn are two completely different things. What he meant is go North. When turning towards East for example, you alter your course to 90 degrees. Turning South = alter to 180 degrees etc.
@@raymendez3403 still I couldn't understand can you explain please in detail
@@Preparinggg Ok so in navigation everything around you is represented by a specific number that designate the direction you are going to. They are 360 of those numbers, each representing a direction (360 because makes a complete circle).
This method of communicating allows both parties to understand clearly without any ambiguity where they want the others to change their course.
If they spoke in basic sentences instead of this, they could ask other ships "go right to avoid collision". If you receive this message you wouldn't know how much right they want you to go. They could mean anything. 20 degrees turn? 45 degrees turn? You don't know.
Basically it's the same as North, South, East, West but way more accurate.
@@raymendez3403 and how will they say go to west in that case as you said alter your course to 90 means east and 180 means south how to calculate this can you help.... And thank you so much
