Strait of Hormuz is too important for Iran, Europe, China, India, Japan & Far East. This is more of rhetoric by Iran for its public consumption. At the same time no country of the world should threaten sanctions on Iran, this is unfair.

The US will have to get used to entering and exiting the Persian Gulf on the Omani side of the straits. Other people may have their own problem. Sink a super carrier or two and the insurance industry will close the gulf.
