The past few years have been a roller coaster. I survived two heart attacks and consequent CABGx3. This year is my 60th birthday, and my family gave me a SARB017 to celebrate my surviving the last two years to reach 60 years of age, not to mention major bushfires last month. Consequently, I am looking for a replacement strap to match the watch. As Jubilee means a celebration of an anniversary denoting the 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th, or 70th year etc., I am looking at getting a Jubilee watch bracelet for the SARB017. However, I need to wait until I get back to work before getting one. Thank you Mark for your wonderful reviews of these bracelets. It has helped me make an informed choice. Keep up the good work. Cheers. Mark E.
I bought this watch a couple weeks ago and am looking for strap options. The "leather" OEM is so ridiculously stiff especially toward the lugs that it causes the whole watch to stand up from my wrist or flop 90º to the side. Really like the watch. Can't help but thing it would be fabulous in a blue color as well, maybe with silver indexes. One gripe: no 12 o'clock marker for night viewing. Going to pick up one of these bands...
I think that people like this because it's kind of like the Rolex Explorer in that it can be used as either a sport or dress watch. It's also a good mix of vintage and modern styling. Adding all of that together could have resulted in a boring watch that ticks boxes, but the Alpinist is undeniably unique.
I saw this watch when I first started getting into the hobby and thought it was hideous, couldn't understand why anyone would like it. Now I own it and it's the watch that gets the most wrist time for me. Have it on the Strapcode Oyster from Monday to Thursday for work, then a Hirsch Liberty on Friday and through the weekend. The first watch I've truly fallen in love with.
After seeing this video I bought the Angus Jubilee for my Alpinist! I thought the price was too high until it came. The quality is superlative and worth every penny. The screw links have REAL screws with no friction pins under them like my Grand Seiko bracelet. I am thrilled with this bracelet and look to wear it proudly for years! Thanks for the video.
After watching this video I decided to immediately buy the Alpinist.Noticed that Marc was not into the watch at all, which I also agree with, not quite sure why people go crazy about this watch. .. But then there was a change of heart? Right after swapping the leather band with the jubilee, you could sense his enthusiasm about the upgraded new look. Logged into LIW website, lucked out it was in stock, bought the alpinist and the cocktail both at the same time. Immediately put on a Hadley Roma tan honey strap and the watch looks amazing. Will be getting the strapcode pretty soon. Thanks Marc for the videos, honesty and excellent service. Will be wearing this beauty at the LEroica vintage bicycle ride in Tuscany next week!
I got this watch due to being influenced by the watch videos praising it... wasn’t real impressed at first but it’s growing on me and is more loved than other watches I thought were great when I first got them. One problem I have is that it’s dressy and rugged so it discourages me from buying other watches as my Alpinist can cover it.
Mark, I know exactly where you’re coming from when you say it hasn’t struck a chord… I urge you to put it on the Angus Jubilee bracelet and wear it for three days… I tried a leather strap thing… Even a single pass NATO...And then I put it on the Angus Jubilee...At that point I fell in love with that watch… As a guy with way too many watches I have 20 divers...A bunch of other watches as well… This one just became a keeper… And I already know that I’m gonna buy another SARB now...Just an awesome watch....
The combination of beauty and versatility are why this watch is so popular. I love mine and thanks to the green dial of the Alpinist it gets more compliments than my Datejust.
To each his own. But for me this is a gorgeous and unique watch. Iconic even, in that there is no other like it. About the strap, people are right. It wears uncomfortable. Great video!
Was not real enamored with the Alpinist - but since Seiko has discontinued them, and since Marc still had one at a good price, and since I'm getting the Angus Jubilee, it's starting to grow on me and it's only increasing in value!
Do you say it's not your favorite watch but you were definitely you know drooling over it you were definitely enjoying the watch and the more you work with it the more you become attached to it
I got my alpinist from u guys and soon as I got it I threw on that Super Oyster haven't took the watch off yet..Thanks Mark for the great super fast delivery and also the great watch
Marc, you make it look so easy putting that oyster bracelet on. Took me quite a few goes and many scratches later to put that thing on. I had trouble connecting both ends of the spring bars on both sides. One side would go in the hole and one wouldn't. I had to use the needle in a safety pin to bend and move the other end to the other hole.
Wow, those really do make the watch pop. I've been eying one of these (like the green dial) but it didn't speak to me -- til seeing it with either of these bracelets!
Such a classic Japanese watch! I got mine a few days ago and it's perfect for my small wrist. I love the retro styling and the face is very readable, even when I'm not wearing my glasses. I noticed the leather strap was very stiff and uncomfortable when I first tried it on. Since it's leather, I rolled the band in my fingers for a while to break it in. After a few days of wear, the band is perfectly comfortable and fits my wrist better than any metal band I've worn. I think the provided band is a perfect aesthetic fit for this watch, it's very classy. I've seen the watch with these modern oyster bands and I think they completely ruin the retro aesthetic of the Alpinist. It's not a modern style watch, why put a modern style bracelet on it. Totally incongruous vibe in my opinion.
House RN I agree fully with this comment. Only thing I would add is that I’d be tempted to change out the stock “faux alligator” band for a high-quality real alligator band of a lighter brown.
I don't like my watch to be loose and move around, I like it to stay put without cutting off circulation. I've loved the watch but I haven't been able to get a nato or leather strap to fit just right. Also I don't know if it matters but I have a very small wrist at 6" even. No more. This Strapcode bracelet with it's 6 point micro adjustment gets a proper fit! This bracelet fits so well I really enjoy wearing the watch more.
The Angus bracelet is really sharp! I removed the Seiko Oyster from my Alpinist because I felt it was too boring-now it’s on a green ZULU. May have to consider this Angus Jubilee 🤔.
Marc, I have the Alpinist, and I think the all steel bracelets overpower the sunburst dial. If Strapcode decides to do a steel and gold-tone oyster bracelet for this watch, I would purchase in a heartbeat. Thanks for the great vid!
If your a Green Bay Packer fan or need a watch for St Patty day, this has you covered. In effect a fancy infantry style watch with a compass feature. One day when decide to move away from quartz this SARB017 and the SARB065 are on my list along with Orient Bambino v3 in gray or v4 in blue. For those looking for a blue dial SARB, your wanting the SARB045, if can find one.
FYI - I bought this watch from ebay about a year ago, everything is great except it doesn't keep good time... lose abouyt 45 sec per day.. sent it to local Seiko dealer for service/repair, it took them over a month and charged me $240.. Now my Alpnist gains 15 sec each day, and I can't complain to Seiko as +/-25 sec per day is within the spec of 6R15...
@@hpwan2 you should change the watch , have 6r movement on o35 , its spot on , not even a second a day , its maybe 30 seconds a month , but its realy good
Great video as usual. I agree with you it is a great watch, and I can see why so many people love it, but it just doesn't do it for me; it might be the numbers, hands and the Seiko logo in gold. I think it would look better if they were silver (and a blue dial would make it even better, specially with those bracelets), but as you said; to each their own!
I like the jubilee bracelet, but the endlinks are not proportional to the links, so it not look right. I do not notice this on my SKX009 with jubilee bracelet, so it must be the lug to lug measurement on the Alpinist that throughs it off.
Got the Strapcode Super Oyster for my Alpinist last week, looks wonderful and it feels like quality. I was considering getting the Jubilee but something about the endlinks looks a little off.
The specialness of this watch is the price point vs quality. 200m water resist, sapphire crystal, in-house automatic movement with hacking seconds and a date complication . When I purchased this watch in 2014 for $300 I knew it was a steal. There was nothing Seiko offered in the US with those specs for under $1500. Also anything Swiss would’ve garnred $3k+.......we are all in lockstep now.
I bought the Alpinist here in Sweden 10 days ago, I paid just below $800 for it, buying it from the US means cheaper but they will add exports BS and something else so it will end up costing me the same. Man, this bracelet transformed it completely, it is a beautiful watch but the leather strap disappoints, this one is awesome...
I agree with many comments that the oyster is the way to go on this one. Regarding a blue dial version of this? I guess green is appropriate for a mountaineers Watch and blue is for a divers watch. That’s how I see it anyway.
I love Seiko however like you I think the SARB017 is Bone Ugly. The Strap Code Bracelets are awesome. The only Seiko Bracelet I really like is on the Monster. It would be great if Strap Code would copy it using a 5 mm Thickness links with an amazing clasp like the Angus.Great review and Thanks for sharing.
Another great video! I never understood the love for this watch until you broke down the compass bezel... And then you slapped it on that AMAZING jubilee bracelet. Now. I want one! Lol. Any idea if they'll make the jubilee for the sarb033?
That jubilee bracelet got me. It is coming soon for my Alpinist. Marc lets be honest if the Alpinist dial was a nice blue you will be caressing the Alpinist like Gollumn the ring.LOL. Happy Holidays.
Agree with the complaint about the watch strap...it could be a little better quality. But my biggest gripe--don't get me wrong I like this watch and wear it 4 days a week--is the dial for the compass moves too easily. If I were going on an alpine adventure, I would never take this watch because in reality, it's not really that practical. I do like it's heritage though.
Hi Mark... Thanks for all of the awesome "how to" videos as I am still playing catch to watch them all. I even have solved the formulas being displayed in your clock. Well, except for one that has X and x2. Don't remember those... Getting back to the story - these two bracelets really make this watch "pop" and what a difference they make. I have a similar situation with a Citizen Eco-Drive AT0810-12E and it came with a leather strap and for years I would like to upgrade the watch so something else. I think the watch has a 21 or 22 mm lug, but you might figure out what size and provide a recommendation. It would be nice if any of these two bracelet model might fit my watch. I'd like to buy you. Please let me know. Thank you.
The Alpinist kind of grows on you. I didn't like it or her it at first, but it is getting to me. So much so that I am thinking about purchasing one. Availability it getting more difficult and with that the price is climbing. Having a hard time deciding between regular Alpinist and the White face good numerals limited edition version. There is a big price difference for some subtle differences. Hmmm ........still pondering.
Hi Marc,I did pick up the Alpinist from you a few weeks back and almost simultaneously the super oyster directly from strapcode. The SO is really something else and is a great match for the Alpinist. Great video as always! Off topic: just beats me why the Mako USA is not allowed to be sold by LIW :(
I appreciate your honest opinions of the watch. I like it... it reminds me of the SARB033 in terms of size and shape, a very similar spec. It's a good spec and finish for the price, don't you think?
do you think the Angus Jubilee bracelet would fit on the new Seiko Cocktail time? they have the same lug size. could you try it out and tell me or if it does you could make a video about it because i think the Cocktail would look so nice on a Jubilee!
The past few years have been a roller coaster. I survived two heart attacks and consequent CABGx3. You have NO idea how much your video helped me to move my Alpinist to a new bracelet. Thank you! 🙏
the green does it for me...its such a beautiful color and it's a great size. the cathedral hands also adds a nice touch
I admit the green is mesmerizing.

This Angus Jubilee goes HARD! Its so stylish, yet comfortable. I bought mine a few weeks ago, and my Alpinist just goes great with this one.
Is it too thick? I'm thinking of getting one but it looks massive for such a small watch.
Wasn’t a big fan of the alpinist, but with the strap code bracelet it really changes the feel. Now I want one!!!
Ha! It happens. Thanks for watching.

About the strap, people are right. It wears uncomfortable.
Great video!
I'm with you Mark. Not sure why people go nuts over this watch but the bracelets do improve the looks significantly.
Indeed.
Out of all the watch video guys I think you are the best. Straight business.
Thanks so much, I appreciate that.
Was not real enamored with the Alpinist - but since Seiko has discontinued them, and since Marc still had one at a good price, and since I'm getting the Angus Jubilee, it's starting to grow on me and it's only increasing in value!
LOL, that works.
Love the green dials. But having to retire way too early, I'm on a budget. Put strapcode miltat on my green dial 5 sports less than an hour ago.
Do you say it's not your favorite watch but you were definitely you know drooling over it you were definitely enjoying the watch and the more you work with it the more you become attached to it
I've just bought an Angus jubilee from you after watching this video! Looking forward to it!
Wish they made a super jubilee , the angus i find is just a tad too hefty
That Super Oyster is almost a mandatory purchase for this watch. Great video as always!
LOL; it's mandatory with the 007 IMO
so expensive eh but worth it
Long Island Watch but what if you have a 007 and a 017? So many mandatory bracelets lol
Oh hi Mark
Howdie.
Is it a line from "The Room"?
Indeed it is
I always play that scene in my mind when I hear the intro
LOL the charming rooftop scene
That super oyster looks fantastic
I have the Alpinist - it is amazing
Glad you enjoy it
Same here
I just wanna say, you never disappoint. I love your videos.
Thanks!
I think the super oyster looks better than the angus jubilee on the watch, what do you guys think?
Agree. They both look great, but the oyster just suits the size and style of the watch more imo.
The angus jubilee looks a little bit louder than the super oyster imo.
I agree
SO all the way, got it on right now!!!
Im a fan of the jubilee, I think it fits the "kinda dressy" vibe of the watch

Marc, does this fit the new alpinist 2020?
Ok, the Alpinist is one of my fav watches of all times, i´ve never seen it with steel bracelets, both oyster and jubilee are a MUST!! Great video!!

I just got the Alpinist and these look like some great options. Thank you for such a helpful video!
It is impressive on a metal bracelet!!! Makes me want to buy a second Alpinist to have one with an oyster bracelet...
This is definitely on my wish list! I just hope Strapcode makes a compatible bracelet for the Recraft SNKPs.

Great! Which do you like better?
Angus jubilee is the winner for me! Super comfortable, and super nice! :) What about you?
Do you happen to have this on a quick release bar? If you don’t, do you know if quick release bars will work on these bracelets?

All sold out Mark. Do you have any idea when it will be available again?
December.
Looks much better with the jubilee than the leather. Went from an old man's watch to something I would enjoy.
Thanks for the video as always much appreciated. I purchased both recently. Tried to get strap from your site but it was not in stock.
End of March!
I like the super oyster bracelet 🔥👍
i want this but its discontinued
I love the watch and the strap code angus jubilee is truly amazing on it. (all eyes on the SARB)
Thanks.
I like the jubilee bracelet, but the endlinks are not proportional to the links, so it not look right. I do not notice this on my SKX009 with jubilee bracelet, so it must be the lug to lug measurement on the Alpinist that throughs it off.
Interesting point.
Strapcode alpinist bracelets also fit the Sinn 556/104 like 97% well
and Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm
Got the Strapcode Super Oyster for my Alpinist last week, looks wonderful and it feels like quality.
I was considering getting the Jubilee but something about the endlinks looks a little off.
Thanks for checking it out.
Marc,Looks good with the bracelet!I will be buying this from your website! Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks!
You would love it if it had a blue dial! I love mine in Green.
that is for sure!
Yeah. I just don't do green well. But love to see it in blue, matte sky blue perhaps.
it has a blue version. Seiko Alpinist SSASS. As far as I remembered, seiko only produced 500 pieces of these version. Which makes it so damn expensive
Hey Mark. Still enjoying the SARX013 I bought from you a couple years ago!
Thanks!
Hi Mark! Great video you made me buy the watch and the bracelet!
Glad it worked!
Excellent demonstration, Marc!
Thank you.
Will you be getting more of the Jubilee in stock??? I'm dying to get one
Just got both the watch and the strap thanks for this video and advice 👍🏼
Peter S. Oyster or Jubilee?
Willard Hooton half polished oyster
Peter S. The best choice of all for that watch👍
do you still have angus jubilee in stock for sarb017? couldnt find it in your website
Just as you were talking about not fully seating the spring bar, the far side wasn't seated haha. Fitted lugs will trick you like that
Yup, saw that in editing!
Does anyone know if quick release bars will work on these?
I agree with many comments that the oyster is the way to go on this one. Regarding a blue dial version of this? I guess green is appropriate for a mountaineers Watch and blue is for a divers watch. That’s how I see it anyway.

One of my favorite watches...

It would be great if Strap Code would copy it using a 5 mm Thickness links with an amazing clasp like the Angus.Great review and Thanks for sharing.
I like these Strapcode bracelets but this clasp (Button Chamfer Clasp or V-Clasp) is too thick, I prefer the simple Diver Clasp.
Good suggestion, thank you.
Will you price match amazon @ $399? I am local
Brilliant video. Bound to be very popular.
Anything with Seiko is.
Now I wish Strapcode would do a two-tone angus jubilee for the Alpinist.
Yeah, I know.
Another great video! I never understood the love for this watch until you broke down the compass bezel... And then you slapped it on that AMAZING jubilee bracelet. Now. I want one! Lol. Any idea if they'll make the jubilee for the sarb033?
They are making the oyster, not sure about jubilee.
does strapcode make bracelet for citizen pro master diver watches as well?
That jubilee bracelet got me. It is coming soon for my Alpinist. Marc lets be honest if the Alpinist dial was a nice blue you will be caressing the Alpinist like Gollumn the ring.LOL. Happy Holidays.
Of course!
Hey Mark, would you like it better in blue ?
Hello, do you think the alpinist would fit on a small wrist, about 6inch?
I'm waiting for a super oyster for the sarb033
Soon!!!!
It’s nice the only thing being an automatic watch don’t comes with the back transparent
Great review as always, Marc. Thanks!
The gold plated jubilee bracelet is durable ?
Agree with the complaint about the watch strap...it could be a little better quality. But my biggest gripe--don't get me wrong I like this watch and wear it 4 days a week--is the dial for the compass moves too easily. If I were going on an alpine adventure, I would never take this watch because in reality, it's not really that practical. I do like it's heritage though.

Casio Protrek is the watch to bring on alpine adventures

I want the Cocktail with the Angus Jubilee. Currently have the Super Oyster on the SKX007, jubilee suits the 009 more.
I've heard that a few times.

Hi mark will this fit the SRPB41J ? thx
I like the green
It's a great color.
Hi Mark, can you do a video for the strapcode bracelet for the orient ray 2?
Eventually. I'll get there.
Is there a Strapcode oyster bracelet for the SARB 033/035?
Not yet, there will be in the future.
The Sarbs come with pretty decent bracelets as far as I'm aware. A swap to strapcode may not be compulsory imo.
the original oyster is amazing already, why would you even need Strapcode? I don't see any differences in quality!
I'd be interested in the jubilee for mine too...
Oh, that would be great. i love my 035 but it feels like the clasp on it sticks out a mile. Always wished there was a strapcode bracelet for it.
Hi Marc,I did pick up the Alpinist from you a few weeks back and almost simultaneously the super oyster directly from strapcode. The SO is really something else and is a great match for the Alpinist. Great video as always!

Thank you for sharing and buying!
Will the Super Oyster fits Sarb033/035 ? plz check and add in your description of the video !
It will not, sorry.
Anyone know a time frame of when they will come out with the super oyster for the sarb033?
Have the OEM bracelet expensive but so satisfying i do like strapcode clasp do you think it would fit
I've never actually seen the OEM bracelet.
hi Mark, I just want to ask will the bracelet for the alpinist fit the seiko enamel line such as the SPB073?
Please do braclet /strap options for the flightmaster i am having a tough time pairing one with it.
It's got an odd lug size that makes it nearly impossible to pair with a bracelet.
When will MiLTAT restock the jubilee bracelet
My most beautiful and loved piece.
gotta choose between the regular oyster (sue me) or the polished mid-link one!!!!
I know this sounds weird, but this watch looks beautiful on a tan NATO strap.
I believe it. Tan (or sand color) goes with alot of off white dials.
I appreciate your honest opinions of the watch. I like it... it reminds me of the SARB033 in terms of size and shape, a very similar spec. It's a good spec and finish for the price, don't you think?
Absolutely. I own a SARB033.
Is there a Jubilee for the Sarb033?
do you think the Angus Jubilee bracelet would fit on the new Seiko Cocktail time? they have the same lug size. could you try it out and tell me or if it does you could make a video about it because i think the Cocktail would look so nice on a Jubilee!
No, it wouldn't. Different cases.
thanks! saved me the hassle!! maybe one day!
