    Us not getting Harper or Machado in 2019 when both wanted to be here, is why we’re in this position. And tbh we deserve it.

      Not signing those 2 that year was a HUGE mistake. Losing Soto can be a blessing in disguise, but it depends on what they do the next 6 weeks. Burnes and 3 bats (Bregman, Santander, Walker) combined will be less than Soto and make the Yankees a much better team.

    • @justin-ux3pk
      @justin-ux3pk 11 months ago +17

      Contracts are gonna keep going up. People are looking at the total dollar value of the contract and saying it’s bad because they’re comparing it to ohtani but this contract is 5 years longer. $51 mil a year is not bad for a dude who’s 26 and is already one of the most complete hitters ever. Verlander and scherzer signed contracts with a $43 mil Aav and wheeler is making $42 mil a year. Even if the Mets exercise the option in 5 years to make the aav $55 mil that’s still gonna be a bargain compared to what other players will be getting paid by then.

    • @tillitsdone
      @tillitsdone 11 months ago +14

Doesn't matter if it ages well, he is 26, he is just getting to his prime years. Of course that puts the pressure on the mets, and its exactly the pressure they want.

  • @BraedenKerr-b1f
    @BraedenKerr-b1f 11 months ago +8

    Jays fan here - I'm selfishly happy another AL East club didn't get Soto. I knew we wouldn't be the ones he'd sign with, so the Mets are a best case scenario for me.
    As a fan of Jomboy Media, I was pretty crushed for you guys. The Yankees haven't felt like the Yankees for a while now. When I first started watching baseball in the early 2000's, the Yankees always felt like a juggernaut. I hated them, but I always loved watching them. Soto long-term + a few other big signings felt like the catalyst that could push you guys in getting back towards that status.
    As much as fans may hate it, when the Yankees and Dodgers are loaded, it makes baseball more fun. It makes them the evil empire and we all get so invested in rooting against it. It's good for the game.
    Also Jake saying "I'm gonna be telling Baby James about, 'You were in Australia. I was a little high watching football Juan Soto signed with the Mets'"! is unquestionably hilarious. 7:05

  • @MrKramer439
    @MrKramer439 11 months ago +71

    Cashman couldn’t fuck up a talent like Soto. He will fuck up a plan b badly. He gave Rodon 162 mil. He thought Josh Donaldson and IKF were good moves? This team is beyond cooked

    • @fernandoposada5440

      At the time when cashman made those moves, those players were decent. They came to the yanks and became flops. Cashman makes good moves but sometimes it doesn't play out how he wants to play out.

    • @MrKramer439
      @MrKramer439 11 months ago +2

      @juanperreaux3339 nah washed Josh Donaldson, IKF, Verdugo etc were never smart moves. Rodon had a limited history of success before getting 6/162. Cash also handed out a 6 year deal to DJ lemehieu when no one predicted he’d get more than 4. These were just bad moves. Cashman does flourish getting bullpen pieces ill give you that

    •  11 months ago +2

      @MrKramer439 oh plz hahahah a lot of Yankees fans where clamoring for rondon. I don’t wanna hear that bs. Again cashman is not the one that signs the checks. Some Yankees fans are delusional.

    What people fail to realize which i did at the beginning is he is set to make atleast $800+. It was not just a $5 million difference. He has an opt out after year 5 and can be paid $5 million extra on top of his current contract for the remainder of the deal. Any living being would be foolish to turn that down. The Mets basically outbid everyone out of the water...

      @ Guerrero and tucker are the best free agents available next year and I guarantee both will get $40+ million a year and neither will be as young or near as good a hitter as Soto. By the time the opt out kicks in there will probably be 5-10 worse players getting a higher aav than Soto.

    I’m not a Yanks fan but based on what I watched in the playoffs the Yanks weren’t a Juan Soto resign away from number 28. I think they’re better off filling the other holes. They need strength throughout their line up and signing that deal would have kept them from making their team better throughout. They may nit be able to fill those holes in one offseason but that’s my 2 cents. Obviously, it is understandable to be extremely disappointed.

    It sucks for you guys, but you shouldn't have been shocked by the Mets getting Soto. Cohen has been here. Have you forgotten how the Mets went bonkers and got Francisco Lindor, resigned Nimmo, extended McNeil, got Verlander, got Scherzer, got Quintana, and landed Senga. Uncle Steve was waiting to pounce on Soto.

    I’m starting to realize why Soto signed for the Mets, do you guys remember when Mookie and Walker were talking on that couch after the Chip about the Mets and how they were clearly the better team. But the Dodgers had the experience to finish the series. I think those comments played a HUGE part in his singing for them. He saw the team he was on lose to the Dodgers and the team across the water almost beat the same Dodgers that kinda smoked the Yankees. I kind of see it now.

I was in the minority of not wanting him in the first place... if the Yankees had gotten him that's all that they would have been able to do.. it would have been a two-man team and it would have failed at the end of the day just like it did in the World Series... the Yankees could get pitching we could get for space filled perhaps a backup catcher the Martian could pay center judge will be back in right..nah dude I'm glad it went down this way.... maybe soro will help the Mets not shit the bed again.... the Yankees took a dump in the World Series, on this there can be no debate, but the Mets didn't even make it that far.....Soto will eventually wind up a DH because he is a subpar filter and he can't run the bases.... he is not a five-point player..... but good luck Mets with your two World Series rings... we will see you in the Bronx😜

    Alright I've seen enough, we're cooked for the next decade cause we're not sniffing the first round the next decade with Arson Judge.

    He said he had a team in mind when he first hit free agency. Now we know, since the offers were so close to being the same. He wants to be the only star, he wanted the limelight for himself. 🤷‍♂

      Lmao exactly 🤡 for the Mets!? This dude doesn’t care to win. He just wanted the most money and to be the guy.. I thought he would take less money to be one of the most winning players ever.

      @retayuan123 you don’t even believe that 🤣 the Mets aren’t going to compete next year or in the near future. Come back to this comment at the end of next season..

      @ I’m a Braves fan and I do believe that. Mets are spending like the Yankees used to. Just my opinion💃

    As a non-yankees fan, this was easy to see coming, after the brutal collapse in game 5 Soto looked completely despondent in the dugout, and the comments he made after the game made it clear he wanted out.

    Yankees losing Soto to the Mets is like the Dodgers losing a top FA to the Angels. Don't fret Yankee fans!

      He won't be, but keep in mind that 10 years from now guys might be making $100m/year, so that's why they are trying to lock guys up into insanely long contracts. This is more like a $400m contract 12-13 years from now
