Great rundown on the Helix 7 man! Thanks for putting it out. I'll use mine tomorrow for the first time. The depth adjustment and highlighting depths were particularly interesting. This will help a great deal.

Looks like you did the video in your garage. Humminbird manual said don’t operate it out of the water or it will hurt the transducer. It would be a lot more convenient to do setup out of the water.
I've never had a problem. I've logged probably 50 hours making tutorials out of the water still working like a charm. I've also put the cover on and accidentally pushed the power button and went to turn it on days later and the unit was still on.

I just bought the 7 MSI GPS G4. I realize it doesn’t have backlight buttons which I feel like I really need. I know this will sound dumb but I've never run anything but Lowrance before. I'm picking up my new Nitro next weekend and it's equipped with a helix 8 gn3 si at the helm. On my current Lowrance HDS G3, I can simply mark and save a boat launch that I'm leaving from and go on with my day. I can then go back to that saved location and easily track my way back. Can I do the same on this Helix unit? Appreciate any info on this. Thx.
Yes u sure can. All you have to do is hit the mark button when at the boat launch then when ready to go back. Go to the fullscreen gps hit the menu button once and scroll to go to. Then click on the waypoint number that was created
I would recommend a helix unit as big as you can afford with si. If your not looking to network you can save a few bucks by getting a g3 or g4 instead of the g3n or g4n
i have this g3n helix 7 at the console, and a regular helix 7 si gps at the trolling motor. the g3n has 4 ports on back of unit, other unit has 3 ports on back, apparently for networking. is there anyway i can link the two together?
Are you sure they are both g3n units? The n is for networkable unit and ussually have 4 ports. If there is only 3 ports I don't think you would be able network them together. If they are both g3n units yes u can surely network them together
Jeremy, great video! I recently got the Helix 7 Mega SI GPS G3N and for the life of me i cannot figure out why the SI return is giving me a mirror image. It picks up structure on the left side of the boat but not on the right with a clear unobstructed view of the transducer. When it does pick up structure on the left, it displays a mirror image of what it saw on the left and displays it on the right side! Any idea why? Ive googled and cant find anything like this. I thought it was a setting somewhere but think its something else. Its been this way out of the box, used it maybe four times trying to get it to work right. All updates done and used factory reset several times while troubleshooting. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I just got a Helix 7 CHIRP, for my 70th birthday.... don't know much about this stuff... the Fish I see on the Screen, are they inform of my Boat, in the Middle or behind me? Probably a dumb question, but Im not very little about it so far. Thank you.

Thank you, it's the transducer that comes with the unit is not the full size mega imaging transducer. I can't honestly tell you if you can upgrade it or not
last time I went ocean fishing I can across my system giving me a shallow depth alarm and wouldnt even read an image, I have yet to use the side imaging mode, I was givin the fish finder as it came with the boat i purchase, I was fishing in 1000 feet of water when i couldnt get a read also, what frequency would i need it on for that?
Was it on 2d or di or si? 2d at higher speeds had a hard time reading bottom but if your looking to read bottom with si or di 455khz would be the best for that depth
Can the lake master card work with the helix 7 G3n. What are they good for was going to buy one if it works works with it and with my i pilot trolling motor
Yes the lake master card will work on the helix 7 g3n. It is a more detailed map then the base maps that comes stock on the helix 7 and will work great for the I pilot follow contour mode
How can I pair both of my helix 7 g3n together if possible. I watched your video on Bluetooth to phone and got that one. I also Bluetooth it to my talon already. Will the g3n Bluetooth to my i pilot trolling motor.

You def do not need any software. The actual unit comes with 8 hours of record time so u can mess around with it and see how u like it before u purchase the zero lines card.
With the zero lines card you can save what you have charted. "If" you want to modify that data you have to have the software which is "extra". The general consensus is with the zero lines card it will hold almost unlimited lakes? The zero lines card can also have the data backed up on your computer in case something run s amuck or if it becomes full some of the data can be removed and added back as needed. Becareful though as there is a file if removed makes the card unuseable and it has to be sent back to Humminbird to have it reinstaled...for a charge. Don't feel confused because it is confussing!

Great info, I've had my G2N's for 4 yrs and still learning. If you record on a zero line card, turn off recording and remove the card does it auto load next time you insert it or do you have to tell the unit its there? and if you have multiple recordings does it bring up each one according to gps base map location on the lake your on? Also I notice you don't have the unit in simulation mode when making vids, this doesn't harm the transducer being out of water?
Thanks bud, theres always more to learn on the helix units. Yes everytime u insert the zero lines card it will automatically read and have the info loaded closest to you
@@HumminbirdHelp Can I throw a regular SD card in my helix 7 instead of a zero lines card for autochart live recordings? I have a few extra SDs with A LOT of memory from my DSLR. Or is it one of those things where the humminbird unit doesn't recognize any other cards?
@Audacity With my older unit I got it to work before I updated but now unfortunately you need the zero lines card if you want to record more than the 8 hours of record time the unit can store. It cant hurt to try if you haven't updated yet
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Dude these things are complicated and not compatible many times- did my research and I’ve had this “helix 7 G3ns gps chirp mega di Cho” with a “710295-1 XNT 9 HW MDI 75 T HELIX 7/8 (MEGA Down Imaging) Dual Spectrum CHIRP with Temperature Transom Mount Transducer” and a “strike master northeast v2 map card” (whew!) Had this for a year and I must be technologically feeble, can’t get this setup to read deep lake trout or any relevant thing, a very expensive fancy nightlight on my boat- frustrating to say the least.
Coming from Garmin where a few botton pushes I can see what I want to, yes, it's complicated. But, it has a lot of capability. I've had one for a couple years. I only use about 20% of what it can do.
Play with it, take a trip out on the water just to play with it. Then after you've become a little familiar with it come back and watch a few videos, you'll understand what they're talking about a bit better.
If this is for beginners I'd hate to see the advanced mode I'd have to have 15 years of college if this is for beginning beginners you need to show us how to turn the down Imaging on I can't even figure that out
2D, Di? Your setting up DI and calling it 2D. Your talking about SI distance and calling it degrees instead of feet. For a beginner video don't you think these mistakes might mean something?

I have a Helix Chirp Mega SI/DI GPS G3N unit. I just hate the though of buying the card and it not work with it. Do you happen to know if the SmartStrike card works with this model?
Yes it certainly will! Sorry for the delayed response. Some comments don't notify me
@@HumminbirdHelp Thank you man. I wanted that card cuz it has that lake analysis feature that shows possible fish locations
@@HumminbirdHelp Just one more question. When using Smartstrike, do you have to be on "Normal" mode and not simulation to actually see the features of Smartstrike?.. thought that would be something to know.. and thank you ...
Yes it can be done in simulator mode. Just hit the view button till u have full screen gps screen. Scroll and zoom to whatever lake u want then hit the check key and scroll down to smart strike. Will have all your stuff there
@@HumminbirdHelp man i must be doing something wrong. Can you email me any images so I know what to look for please if you can. I have the Helix 7 Mega SI/DI G3N
Very helpful video on the helix units, thank you sir!
Thank you!
Great video. Still learning how to use my helix 7.
Thanks, should have some good videos to help you out
It would be great if you made up a set of field notes and posted them so we can take it on our boat and make the changes. I can't be pausing the video and taking notes it's very hard to do. But it sounds like you know what this machine can do but it's a shame that I can't pull off of this video and apply it to my machine
That is something I possibly could do in the near future!
@@HumminbirdHelp "Set of Field Notes" - Just following up on this request, have you compiled any field notes?
Omg "Im too lazy to pause a video and make my own notes from a video you took the time to make, so you should do even more and make me some notes" smh, how pathetic...
I had no problem pausing and takin notes. Was a great vid to. Its not rocket science takin notes. My grandkids could do it!
Just play the video on your phone while your sitting in front of the unit.
Yes everytime u insert the zero lines card it will automatically read and have the info loaded closest to you
it doesnt hurt the transducer to run the unit out of the water
@@HumminbirdHelp Can I throw a regular SD card in my helix 7 instead of a zero lines card for autochart live recordings? I have a few extra SDs with A LOT of memory from my DSLR. Or is it one of those things where the humminbird unit doesn't recognize any other cards?
@Audacity With my older unit I got it to work before I updated but now unfortunately you need the zero lines card if you want to record more than the 8 hours of record time the unit can store. It cant hurt to try if you haven't updated yet
Great video!
Thank you
How do I get it on side imaging?
If its a side imaging unit all you have to do is hit the view button until it pops up. If not it would have to be networked to am si unit
They take a while to get used to but once u understand them you won't ever go without
I HAVE PUT FISH ATTRACTANTS IN THE LAKE NOW I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SET UP MY HELIX 7 TO GO TO THE LAKE AND FIND THEM
I just want one you can turn it on and it works. This unit is to complicated for me
Coming from Garmin where a few botton pushes I can see what I want to, yes, it's complicated. But, it has a lot of capability. I've had one for a couple years. I only use about 20% of what it can do.
Great video Good info and to the point. Thanks
Thank you
Iiii don’t know how I’m going to remember this. I’ve never used any fishing electronics so idk what the hells going on.
That's how I felt before I purchased decent electronics. The good thing is you can always look back at videos like this if u decide to change
Play with it, take a trip out on the water just to play with it. Then after you've become a little familiar with it come back and watch a few videos, you'll understand what they're talking about a bit better.
Great thanks
If this is for beginners I'd hate to see the advanced mode I'd have to have 15 years of college if this is for beginning beginners you need to show us how to turn the down Imaging on I can't even figure that out
I can make some more basic videos
Does.the helix7n do map charting?
Yes it does
Wish you would have actually shown the screen and we could see the screen..
Good video but difficult to read the screen clearly.
2D, Di? Your setting up DI and calling it 2D. Your talking about SI distance and calling it degrees instead of feet. For a beginner video don't you think these mistakes might mean something?
Sorry. I can't even get to the first screen. Ya lost me right off the bat..
cannot see the screen too much glare on screen.
You can see it's on, no you can't
Can’t see the screen
I can tell u all three of my humming birds took a crap and two of my buddy's 360 just went to shit and humming bird dose not to warranty crap so we all went to lorance easy way to spend 15 grand
That's unfortunate. I've owned about 10 humminbirds over the last 20 years and never had a warranty issue at all as long as I registered the units
Sooo. I have the same hat. Just saying. 🤷🏼♂️
My dad bought one and he says “ this thing don’t have what it said it had” little does he know I found this vid. And he thinks the sonar will read out of water
Nope def wont read anything out of water. May take him a while to adjust but I promise he will be in love with it once he does. I feel lost when I'm not using it
Slime Quest TV Helix 7 still best choice vs. Harming? Buying my first Saturday and have been watching your vids. Thx, much appreciated.
Slime Quest TV Garmin* sorry autocorrect happened.....
Yes I have 3 humminbird helix units on my boat and my next will still be a helix. Way more bang for your buck
Slime Quest TV thanks man, will get helix 7 G3N tomorrow with confidence. Keep up the great job. Tight lines!
Terrible video!! Would have been a great audio book though. Just bought a 9 and would have been so good to see the screen!!!!
You are so wrong.
You are actually using 1.25 MHz. Good video, though.
Yep ur right, thanks
Good info, terrible video. next time you make a video you should make sure the screen on your unit is visible.
This video is very frustrating for a beginner. Can’t follow you because you move to fast and the video quality of the screen sucks, even when we enlarge the screen we can’t see what your clicking on. Don’t say this is a beginner video, it’s not.
cannot see the menu because the unit is in the sun so this video is worthless.
Beginner's guide? Nope.
Does this Helix have a video out connection? I want to attach a second monitor.
No unfortunately the helix series does not have any video outs. I really wish it did tho
