Throughout the 20th Century, Doncaster was home to many amateur and professional filmmakers. In the early 1990's two videos 'Bygone Doncaster' and 'Bygone Doncaster Revisited' were released featuring many of these archive films.
The videos have now been digitally remastered and compiled onto a single DVD with an interactive menu to allow users to access the many different clips. The DVD includes over 100 mins of film showing the Doncaster our grandparents knew...

I was born there - I could never feel proud of all the old building that have been knocked down. It's all happening again now - nothing has been learned from past mistakes.

Poor Duke Street, Cleveland Street, and Station Road. Some impressive facades were lost, including the Guildhall. It's more of the same now, it's a tragedy that the Gaumont fell into the grasp of property vultures.

Doncaster was a really nice town. My mother used to talk about how fashionable the restaurant in the Gaumont was.

I wish I could have seen Doncaster in person through those years. It saddens me how much it has been ruined by the council allowing so much of the beautiful history be destroyed and the disrespect some people have for their town, vandalising and littering everywhere. What should be beautiful buildings now destroyed by the council allowing an overload of shops, many of which now fail in the first few months, to do whatever the hell they want to it with no respect for maintaining the architecture.

So sad what happened to Doncaster .the council would have taken down the mansion house if they had dared.Doncaster could have been a stylish historic town now.

So basically before the 1960s Doncaster was a picture perfect Town. Now it's just a mess 👍🏼

@cheekyleopard fair enough, i dont really go that much i prefer less frequent nights out but bigger ones in places like leeds an sheffield, every man to his own tho i spose

The REAL people of Donny are lovely. The council and local politicians are dreadful. Why go to "Clone Town" when there are better places in Yorkshire? Doncaster will be a faceless place with no identity.

doncaster's almost unrecognisable in this video, wish they didnt pull down all those really historic buildings such as the guildhall, and go and replace them with them hideous grey concrete buildings we see today, obscuring the skyline of doncaster.
